Fabulous job, simply thrilled with the work and interpretation of the tune....congrats to all from one Music Man quartet guy to the others as well as marion...simply enchanting voice....cheers in all you do !!!
Wow!! As much as I enjoy the Buffalo Bills/Shirley Jones version in the film, after listening to this video it has now become my favorite due to the perfect pitchof all the vocalists, the orchestration which remains fluid throughout & the arrangement, which resonates all the way to River City, IS. Thanks for posting this truly remarkable gem.
S James Pieciak, if you think this version is pitch perfect, you need new batteries in those hearing aids! The barbershop group was having a lot of serious pitch problems. At least the bass was singing some totally wrong notes and badly fudging the pitch on others. Sometimes they sounded OK, but it will never come off right when one or more singers has a tin ear.
It's a good recording, but The Buffalo Bills are a professional quartet who are professionals in the barbershop style. All 4 quartet singers in this were using extreme vibrato. That's a cardinal sin in barbershop. They also lacked a wall of sound.
Wow! Everyone worked hard on this one and It shows. I'm impressed by the sound quality in these videos. So good it has me wondering if the tracks were over dubbed for the video. If they are using mics, they're doing a fantastic job!
For some reason he drops an octave instead of the sixth that I recall. All the tempi are necessarily on the swift side too, due to the laaaaaaaaack of breeeeeeeath suppooooooooooort. Marian has to bail out a bit too soon. Practice practice practice.
Just saw this Hey The Author, don't see anything wrong with this version and coming from someone who sat in the theater and watched all day, when it was out, good version
Way too much vibrato on the barbershop quartet. Pro tip: barbershop does not utilize vibrato that much other than at the very end of a tag (coda). It's just a stylistic thing, straight tones make it easier to be in tune and makes just intonation more effective, because no vibrato lets the overtones build on top of each other and creates that barbershop "buzz" that is the entire foundation of barbershop. But I liked Marian, she did a lovely job. Not Shirley Jones, but really good.
Excellent point about the vibrato in this harmony. Many people just have never been told that. In '50's Doo wop the same thing, but only the top note or melody gets to have a vibrato. Love that "buzz' that you speak of....I especially love it in female vocals in Black choirs, or even back up. The sisters in Color Purple blend is awesome.
Her voice should be more mature, it just looks like she singing like a 17 year old when it should be around 23+. She has the looks and range just the tone and quality is lacking. And its a little fast, let the audience soak up this great song, so slow down just a tad
Marian's voice is absolutely BEAUTIFUL!! The barbershop quartet was very good too.
Five stars for a superb non-professional production! Delightful!
I think Marian is fabulous!!!
While this isn't the best version, I love it because it sounds great and they're clearly having fun with it.
This is so wonderful! Beautifully done. Thanks for posting.

OMG This Set is Amazing!!!!
Person who disliked this, you don't have a musical bone in your entire body. I loved this!
Her dress is beautiful !! I'm playing marian in my school performance, and your videos are helping me a lot !! :D
I enjoyed the performance.
Excellent!
Ignore the no talent critics!

To the guy who uploaded this, give some details on this play. Who and where was it etc.
THIS. IS. AMAZING. AND. ALONG. WITH. THE. OTHER. ONES. I. JUST. GOT. ZANEETA. AND. TOO. BAD. WE. ARE. DOING. JR.

Very nice!
I want to se this girl on American Idol, and singing this song. I usually click out of crappy high school music, but not this time.
Harold was all over the place at the beginning
Yeah, that was not the tune. Oh well.
For some reason he drops an octave instead of the sixth that I recall. All the tempi are necessarily on the swift side too, due to the laaaaaaaaack of breeeeeeeath suppooooooooooort. Marian has to bail out a bit too soon. Practice practice practice.
great sound quality in my ATMOS HT first rate production quality
Where is this? This cannot be high school. They're so good!
No......the girl is fine, but the guys are singing a lot of wrong notes and drifting around on their pitch center as well....very high school.
listen to the original Budffalo Bills & Barbara Cook on the original cast album, perfection
Why are you comparing a high school production to a professional production?
Just saw this Hey The Author, don't see anything wrong with this version and coming from someone who sat in the theater and watched all day, when it was out, good version
Was there a bass in that quartet?
Not bad. But not great. It's true, Shirley Jones nailed it. There is nothing like it!
Seems like the Marion part was hurried up. The 1st tenor was slightly over emphasized. B+ all in. Strong.
The vibrato in the barbershop quartet bothers me and disturbs the blend. Other than that, though, very good.
perhaps a play production at a college or theater
it is considered professional already if they are performing for an audience in a theater or such
That's not what professional means. If they do performing for a living, then they are professionals. Many people perform without being professionals.
It is only considered professional if the performers are payed
What’s up with these comments. Yeah, I mean if you look for improvement you can find it anywhere. Just like relax

It sounds like the violins are out of tune..

not bad, not bad but the tenor was a bit loud and flat at times.
great quartet, but I'm not crazy about Marian. She sounds very immature. Still enjoyable tho! Favorite song in the whole show!
