Okay I have to do it. Here's a little Vocal Breakdown of this stunning performance! 0:16 - Very conversational in the way she is singing as if she is talking to the to every audience member personally. This is acieved by a few things, one being the way she sings the lyrics: eg. "lucky" is still on pitch but not really sung, just spoken instead. 0:21 - On the word stay, one of many Crescendos she uses to evoke a tense feeling as the song builds. This performance is full of these. 0:25 - Again very conversational in approach, not too overly sung. Stunning tone and pitch. 0:31 - "Away" another crescendo and her vibrato builds in tempo too. 0:36 - "He will hold me fast" very seductive with how she goes to the consonant of "s" in the word "fast". Slightly more of a head voice quality here too. 0:52 - "Like the last time" a stronger chest voice here with STUNNING vibrato (I love Kristen's vibrato, it's perfection). This stronger chest voice here evokes further emotion for the lyrics. This performance is full of emotive singing and wonderful story telling. 0:54 - An octave change from a G4 to a G3 on the word "time". Her resonance and vibrato here is amazing, very difficult to achieve on a lower note like a G3. 0:59 - This "everybody" hits differently. The "body" is more open than the few other times this word was sung. The "loves a winner" here is so good! The acting here is amazing and she is making us believe every word she sings! Great story telling! 1:10 - "Lady peaceful" the "peace" has a subtle change to head voice here then back to chest for "ful" with a lovely vibrato and change in vowel placement with almost an "ah" at the end. 1:18 - I love this "be". It has intent and power and the climb up from a G4 to G#4 to A for the new key of F major is flawless and a great way of building the song. 1:22 - Notice how Kristen is almost behind the beat of the song here with "all the odds are in my favor". This is syncopation and it's yet another technique Kristen uses to build the song further before the final climax. 1:29 - "Begin" Notice her locked jaw position that literally does not move for the duration of the note. Great chest belt on a difficult vowel at a C5 with masterful vibrato. 1:33 - This is more of a mix than a chest note with "It's gonna" well placed but lacks the power that her full chest voice has. Still a nice little growl on the "it's" and a great note! 1:36 - "Happen some time" Wanted to point out that on the word "time" she actually goes almost completely back into her chest voice here. Shows us how Kristen has fantastic control over her voice. 1:59 - OMG! THIS! "maybe this time I'll win" she uses her whole body to emphasise those notes and intensify her vibrato as she goes into the climax of the song. 1:43 - "Cause" has almost a slide down from the top note of C5 carried by her vibrato. 1:44 - Straight down an octave to a B3 still keeping the power and pitch perfect. 1:50 - "So nobody loved me" Great soar on "loved" with a 5 note interval up to an G#4 with a fantastic vibrato and tone on "me". 1:56 - Lovely slide on "lady" hitting a B4 2:00 - Incredible chest note on G#4 climbing up semi tones from A4 to Bb4 into the new key. 2:05 - "All the odds are" more syncopation and omg that TONE and resonance on "are" is outstanding. 2:10 - "Something's bound to begin" Kristen uses more slides her for each syllable to reach the notes in her chest voice. The "begin" hits a great C#5, a tiny bit shaky in the middle, but Kristen saves it like a pro! 2:15 - Here's that fantastic growl mix again on an insane D#5! 2:17 - To me iconic from Glee, the "ha ha" adds so much happiness to the performance as if she really is finally going to win! 2:20 - "Maybe this time" Note her wide mouth so she can place the notes perfectly for resonance and power. Some extra growls and a huge smile too! She's gonna win! 2:22 - "Maybe this time" Here she changes her emotion on the word "time" immediately. So much more intensity! And her pitch is incredible such precision with high belts like this alternating between the C#5 and the D#5. 2:26 - "I'll win" fantastic belt with her vibrato steady and in time. The wide mouth allows for excellent placement here and the exaggerated "wha" at the start of the word "win" allows a singer to place the note easier before the vowel is sung. 3:33 - I honestly was waiting for this. Her Glee performance of this is one of my favourite things of all time. Here she demonstrates her classical training and her very impressive range. That's a B5 folks. A B5. The vibrato here is incredible again, her voice really shines on notes like this! I hope you all enjoyed! All the people going on about her face jobs, yeah, okay, she's probably gone to get her face done, and yes, she doesn't look like the sweet Glinda or Sally Brown she was years ago, but come on - that was YEARS ago. She isn't Peter Pan. Close your eyes. Listen to that power. Hear the melody. Feel the music and emotion. Do you like what you hear? Yes? Open your eyes. Does her face REALLY matter?

Yep. She does that. It is quite a feat. I have to say it works well. The original with Oscar winning Liza Minelli was a beautiful piece of work cos it was endearing that she came across as meaning every word on phrasings and stresses. Kristina does a damn good job of a song she has mastered, seriously. Technically excellent and she does believe in how she is performing this. A Quality Act.

Wow. All the feels with this one. I love her because I don't think objectively she has a tone that is very versatile, but she gives such emotional performances every single time and really sells whatever it is she's singing. I've yet to come away from a performance from her disappointed.
The best performance of this song EVER. The real professional singer, with real voice, real training, and real raw deliverance -- stunning, nobody can even hold a candle to her!
OMG I didn't know anything about her career, I just knew her as an actress on some TV show and didn't even know that she could sing and oh boy she sings with such a powerful and beautiful voice, I am so used to the Liza Minellis version that I thought I was not going to like Ms Chenoweth version but what a rendition, what a performance. kudos to her and thanks to whoever posted this video. I jut googled her and she has an amazing career and with lots of awards and recognition in musicals etc. I feel like I have been living in another planet...... I am a new fan !!!!!!!
From the moment I watched my mouth was dropped till she finished. I'm convinced Kristen is one of the best vocalist out there in our time. Her range is literally infinity
Until I saw this video, I was never a big fan of Kristin, but this opened my eyes. She is so totally immersed in the song, probably the best performance of "Maybe This Time" I've ever seen.
I absolutely love every single minute of this!! What wonderful performances by such talented people!! Watched Liza Minnelli performance and love all the different performances.
I had an awesome dream last night where I met Kristin at a dinner party, and I got to tell her how much I love her work. Dream Kristin was very sweet and as charming as you’d expect her to be. So that was nice.
The reason why she is so amazing is not only a voice but she has a vision of this song inside her head that enraptures the audience she becomed the character and truly embodied the song
As someone who suffered a head injury myself, I know that coming back can be difficult. We look the same but we don't feel the same . I'm so glad that Kristin didn't allow it to take her passion away. She sounds even better than before...if that's possible! Love you!
Wow. Best rendition ever- perfection- thanks! I saw Kristin as Sally in You're a Good Man Charlie Brown and when she sang "My Prerogative", the only new song written for the musical, specifically for her, she knocked my socks off.
girl!!! i had absolutely clue you could sing! i thought it was going to be a comedy bit but surprise! i love this!!! you totally nailed the heck out of this!!
She packs more emotion into that song than anyone else I've ever seen perform it before. She goes from depressed and despondent to wishing what she's saying were true - but not believing it is, to hope to triumph. She feeds off the audience to achieve this. I know this feeling and it's not something you can get in a recording studio. She's no longer pulling emotion out of her own experience but pulling it out of every one in the audience who has ever had those feelings and handing it back to them. That is what blasts them out of their seats at the end.
Wow. Fabulous and very moving. She absolutely makes it her own, her own unique take on it. She was spontaneous, even. No easy feat, as 99% of everyone who does this awesome song does it with Liza over their shoulder, no matter how good they sing. Chenoweth did it as her, unique. :)
I usually loathe this song, but Ms. Chenoweth sang it with such power & clarity that I was finally reconciled with this song. Thank you, Ms. Chenoweth, for 'translating' it for me!
It's pretty amazing to see a performer who always gets everything right sing like someone who never gets anything right. She's even a little manic there at the end. Great acting. Phenomenal singing.
I just finished watching Cabaret and I suddenly remembered I'd heard the song "maybe this time" on Glee, once upon a time. So I had to come here and listen to Kristin Chenoweth do her version. Amazing.

I do this on performances or songs that I find inspiring and make me want to better my vocal abilities. Kristen is phenomenal and quite frankly, an icon and I hope you learned a little something from this post!
If you want, check out some of my covers on my channel, or some of my other vocal breakdowns on some other videos!
I've never seen a song broken down like this before! Thanks so much.
I loved your breakdown
Ok
And all the way through dead in the face due to Botox overload. Plus very hammy acting. Not for me.
@@Belfastboi I think you must be watching a different video cause you could not be more inaccurate about the emotion xD
+Leona Low She gets botox to help with her migraines and meniere's
Leona Low plus it's her body she can do whatever she wants
Maybe this time
YAS
I think she's beautiful. It goes unmatched.
She even did the Cheno note.
No one cares
+Living with Lex. Well 93 people cared...
+Sydney Lenore It ain't Cheno without the Cheno Note ;)
You mean the CheNote? 😂😂
😍 loved her acting and songs in Pushing Daisies and Glee. She always brings emotional feelings with her voice. God bless her and eveybody.
I love how she is capturing the desperation of sally Bowles but equally delivering a vocal masterpiece with the lizaesque sally it’s like a blend of both the Sally’s and I love it
Gave me goosebumps, caught myself randomly holding my breath & wanted to happy cry.
A voice & song like that 🥲 makes my heart feel like a balloon being blown up.
Music is truly a gift from & to the soul.
WOW...... I could FEEL all of this !!!
I can relate to your choice of verbs.
Why does Kristin Chenoweth have to be so amazing
she's so teeny tiny! pocket Kristin... also that dress omg stunning!!
Nicole Johnson I know! she's like a little fairy!
Nicole Johnson The old fashioned phrase is "pocket Venus'
Honestly I’d never heard her sing until this video. But her speaking voice is so itty-bitty and cute, and this rich sultry voice comes out singing! Amazing!
My god, she is absolutely exhilarating. I'm home alone and I want to give her a standing ovation. A stunning performance.
Once in a lifetime, we all get to know a gift like Kristin. An amazing woman, talent, gift.
Maybe this time, I'll be lucky
Maybe this time, he'll stay
Maybe this time
For the first time
Love won't hurry away
He will hold me fast
I'll be home at last
Not a loser anymore
Like the last time
And the time before
Everybody loves a winner
So nobody loved me;
'Lady Peaceful,' 'Lady Happy,'
That's what I long to be
All the odds are in my favor
Something's bound to begin
It's got to happen, happen sometime
Maybe this time I'll win

Kat Shotwell thank you
" Я стою у ресторана , замуж поздно , сгинуть рано ..."
Thanks- couldn't quite catch all the lyrics, and after reading these on the second listen they are crystal clear- and great by the way!
Thank god she has to go into her head voice at the end... I was like *I swear to god if she chests this*
oh she couldn't possible thick that. no way. she's got beautiful thin folds+aes+cricoid.
I have no idea what you guys just said about her singing but I'm gonna just agree with you... :)
She always goes into her head voice for that note from what I've heard xD
😂😂 I was saying the same thing
can't listen to this without breaking into song or tears! absolutely a legendary performance

She's so adorable, and holy cow what a voice!
If YOU ever get a chance to go see her in concert do Yourself a favor and go see her. The Lady is Phenomenal! She is in my humble opinion the Greatest Singer to EVER stand on a stage! I have seen her in concert 3 times & I have met her. She was so Sweet & Kind & YES Adorable! LOVE Kristin Chenoweth...ALWAYS will.
This was just a FANTASTIC performance! Those folks should have been on their feet clapping! That was AWESOME!!!!!!!!
Kristin is a very attractive woman with an outstanding voice. It has always amazed me that such volume can come from this petite body.
I met her once in the store I was working in and she is by far the sweetest most down to earth celebrity there is. She’s a doll.
I'm almost ashamed that I had never heard of Kristen prior to Glee but damned if she didn't blow me away! The woman can literally do no wrong. The power of the voice ; she's truly a pocket rocket.
She’s one of the few artists that sounds just as good if not better live than on a recording
I loved when she performed this in glee
Ichimaru Zero Ikr, I love cabaret so much 😍
Ichimaru Zero yes ! It was her that really pulled me into Glee when my friend told me to watch...
"One less bell to answer" duo was amazing....
@@palm0607 Oh wow my all time favourite.
I love the extra swing they put into this version, genius.
Watching her perform is one of the most empowering things I have ever seen. Just, WOW!
Every time I need to do an attitude adjustment on myself, this video comes to mind. And here I am again...this time for medical encouragement. Thank you, sweet and talented lady, for leaving this inspiring performance on your site. This version remains the very best!!!
Wow. All the feels with this one. I love her because I don't think objectively she has a tone that is very versatile, but she gives such emotional performances every single time and really sells whatever it is she's singing. I've yet to come away from a performance from her disappointed.
She is the definition of someone with SHOW BIZ quality. Like, I just love her. She makes you stop and pay attention. Mama’s got the goods!!
That last note!
The Mad Hatter Was Here "The Cheno Note" 😂😀😂😀😂
Absolutely unbelievable. She is one of the greatest moderns talents we have seen in a long time and more people need to know her greatness.
This is why she is referred to as an ICON!! This happens when you are the best of your generation.
And this is what you call talent. Love it: The emotion, vocals, everything. You should be more recognized.
The best performance of this song EVER. The real professional singer, with real voice, real training, and real raw deliverance -- stunning, nobody can even hold a candle to her!
Lisa Minnelli owned this song
I agree ! This song belongs to Liza
I am so in love with this woman. Her voice is perfection.
Thank you so much! 💕
This is how a great singer shows how a great song should be sung. Luv her to bits....
How can someone's voice be so perfect?
Until I saw this video, I was never a big fan of Kristin, but this opened my eyes. She is so totally immersed in the song, probably the best performance of "Maybe This Time" I've ever seen.
She is broadway perfection. I can’t get enough of this performance
I’ve never heard of Kristin before. So glad this popped up on my feed. Gotta love that woman. Amazing voice!
Absolutely stunning. Her voice thrills me more every time I hear her, and it makes me so happy to hear her sing this.
I can't remember how many times I've watched this performance but it continues to give me goosebumps.
I love her. I love when you see true artists feeling the music. And she was really feeling it lol
I absolutely love every single minute of this!! What wonderful performances by such talented people!! Watched Liza Minnelli performance and love all the different performances.
No words....but WOW!!!!!!! Thank you Kristen.
I am gobsmacked. I've never heard a live performance that good, ever.
*sitting in the corner whispering glee glee glee glee glee glee glee glee*
same hahahah
Emmerson Cooke same!
Cabaret
The exact same!!!
Glee is but a tiny part of what she has done
This will forever be one my all time favourite vocal performances. Ever.
Thanks for watching! 💞
I had an awesome dream last night where I met Kristin at a dinner party, and I got to tell her how much I love her work. Dream Kristin was very sweet and as charming as you’d expect her to be. So that was nice.
The reason why she is so amazing is not only a voice but she has a vision of this song inside her head that enraptures the audience she becomed the character and truly embodied the song
her voice is perfect for this song.
I've never seen her with a rich sassy voice like this, always the high sweet stuff. For a tiny thing, she sure became big for this big song!
@Honest Mark how's everything going here? It's cool...
OMG the power in her voice!!
She deserve a standing ovation 👏
talented people in their element make me sob. every time!
girl!!! i had absolutely clue you could sing! i thought it was going to be a comedy bit but surprise! i love this!!! you totally nailed the heck out of this!!
2:15 my gracious lord! The amount of times I've rewind this part. God bless her.
Wow. Fabulous and very moving. She absolutely makes it her own, her own unique take on it. She was spontaneous, even. No easy feat, as 99% of everyone who does this awesome song does it with Liza over their shoulder, no matter how good they sing. Chenoweth did it as her, unique. :)
Benefits of having the exact same vocal range as Kristin Chenoweth is, any song she can sing, I can and she’s always introducing me to new song.
I was Darth Senpai.
SLAY!
St Francis yus
I usually loathe this song, but Ms. Chenoweth sang it with such power & clarity that I was finally reconciled with this song. Thank you, Ms. Chenoweth, for 'translating' it for me!
It's pretty amazing to see a performer who always gets everything right sing like someone who never gets anything right. She's even a little manic there at the end. Great acting. Phenomenal singing.
A brilliant performance - tons of confidence! And to think, that Liza Minelli is your yardstick.
the little haha was adorable!!
Holy crap!!! You're simply amazing, incredible, remarkable. In other words, I kinda liked it.
Girl you're CRAZY for this one. An absolute gift to the world. What a voice! A performance! Obsessed, truly obsessed.
and tits that bounce for miles and miles!!!
This woman is absolutely flawless. To say her voice is above and beyond amazing would be underselling her talent. I wish I had her vocal range.
That last note...my wig...the chills!!!
One of the great talents of the 20th and 21st centuries.
I love this woman. One of the most beautiful and brilliant talents in all entertainment. ❤
I just finished watching Cabaret and I suddenly remembered I'd heard the song "maybe this time" on Glee, once upon a time. So I had to come here and listen to Kristin Chenoweth do her version. Amazing.
Can we appreciate how Mary is vibing at the back too? 😂 Anyway, I've said this millions of times and I'll say it again, Kristin Chenoweth, you are the best artist in the world. I love you so much ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
