Dude he covered Workin Man’s Blues during the middle of his set and then closed with Time (Pink Floyd) and transitioned wildflowers and wine into ramblin man. Great set
I love that he isn't just trying to sound like another replica of SRV's tone and phrasing. That's what makes a great guitar player great - doing it his own way without turning it into a different song. And he's got that "edge of going overboard" energy thing to his playing that certainly gets my attention.
Just saw Marcus and his incredible band at the House of Blues in Boston and he did not disappoint!! Great live act if you ever get the chance, check him out
I don't believe anyone plays Stevie like Marcus, but this rendition is insane. More akin to hearing Johnny and Edgar Winter cover this song. So awesome to hear this, ty!!
Actually this isn't a Stevie Ray Vaughan song. He covered it. A guy named Larry Davis actually wrote and recorded the song in 1958. It became a blues standard and then SRV went on to cover it. The original version is pretty good too
I already addressed this with another commenter. Most people know the SRV version and this was performed on what would have been his 70th birthday. So since Marcus is obviously honoring SRV, and many don't know the original, I put an easy indentifier in the title and then a note to the original in the remarks section below the video. Thanks for your reply and cheers!
Thanks for the clarification. I will update it on Setlist.fm and put a note on this. Since most people aren't familiar with Larry Davis or his version, I will leave the title alone for search and attention purposes. Cheers - SCS
I love about 80 percent of this. Tone, amazing as always. Vocals, damn. Love the slide solo. But ... I was expecting an explosive launch into a Marcus solo, and instead he kind of teased and when he *did* let loose pushed it too hard. Still a great cover, but I was not killed dead by the end of it as I had been expecting.
I asked on another clip if he'd ditched the horns and backing singer mid tour, and it seems he has. I've got a couple of tickets for a UK show next month. I'll have to liaise with the other half to see if she still wants to go now (assuming it's just the 5 piece). It's all sounding a little generic to my ears, nothing wrong with it, but can't see my wife being overjoyed! (She liked the bigger band). Great video though, much appreciated.
The other instruments are mostly unnecessary in relation to most of the music he plays. There's a reason why they call themselves the Marcus King Trio....
I always enjoy Marcus King‘s vocals. I think that’s the bright spot for him. He’s still overplays, plays too loud, & too fast. when I think of blues, I don’t typically associate orange amplifiers with it. It’s a completely different sound. Definitely a cool interpretation of the song. I believe as he matures as a musician he’ll adjust his playing to fit the song rather than always playing the same irregardless of what song he’s playing or style of music he chooses to incorporate into his set list. I’m glad to see there’s somebody out there that’s from the new guard that’s keeping the blues alive. There are very few Titans left to carry the flame. 🎉❤
I was thinking “these guys are playing at the blues” You can tell the drummer has a metal background, he doesn’t swing. As good as the players are, this was like a bad blues open mic night. For the record, I’m a big fan of Marcus King.
Dude, you don’t have a clue what you’re talking about. Ain’t no such thing as too loud or too fast. He’s the most amazing young guitarist in the universe.

Exceptional! out of this world. and what a great drummer jack is!!
Marcus playing this tribute to SRV on what would've been his 70th birthday. Respect. RIP Stevie.
Thanks brother.

Marcus on a strat, just wow! Plus Drew on the slide was KILLER!!!
Wow, great vocals and guitar 🎸, the band are no lightweights❤
It blows my mind that he isn't a superstar yet, because he absolutely fuckin AMAZING!!
Oh, HE IS.
Seen him 7 times !!
I love him, use to bring him up on stage with my ole band in Greenville SC but his lyrics need a little work. Musically he's got it all
My band in Greenville SC use to bring him up on stage before he was old enough to even be in the bar. Get it brother
That slide intro part of the solo is killer🤟🏻🤟🏻🤟🏻
Agreed, Drew is fantastic!!!
Just saw Marcus and his incredible band at the House of Blues in Boston and he did not disappoint!! Great live act if you ever get the chance, check him out
Wow I can't believe I missed this show!!! I was just about to check for a tour date in Houston 😭
Very respectful version of Texas Flood! Keep on Rockin 🎸 Marcus 🤘✌️
I don't believe anyone plays Stevie like Marcus, but this rendition is insane.

Fantastic, love it
For the record, Larry Davis wrote Texas Flood and SRV took it next-level with his cover.

That slide player stole the show
Yeah I’ve heard tons of slide players but I’ve never really heard one make their guitar sound like a bloody theremin like that, that was cool
Exceptional, what a joy to listen to.
Playing a strat. Sounds better than ever
incredible tone
Not a stevie & double trouble cover because SRV was covering Larry Davis

The Straocaster .....
Best guitar ever.

Don’t be a munch bro. Go see the fucking show

i wonder what kind of pedal he is using to get that killer tone

Drew Smithers!!
That my friend is mr Derek Trucks! One of the greats
@@dylanhighwood7458no that’s not trucks lol
@@jayzhou104 mmm idk man. SG and slide sounds like trucks to me

The slide player summons Duane Allman's ghost with aplumb.
Drew Smithers. Fantastic player!!!
His other hat looked so cool. I dunno why he’s going all 50’s country singer now 8>(
What do you want? Rhinestone Cowboy instead?
Who is the other guitarist?
Shewwwwwwww

Eveeyones a Critic........
Now we see why is the Stevie one and only...nor even like the original
He is a great guitar player no doubt, I think he over plays too much and his tone is not all that great to my ears
Kinda have to agree with you there. I've seen/heard some of his others where he sounds better. This wasn't one of them.
Brilliant, but he has got his strat to sound like a Gibson, he should have just used one of the hollow bodied Gibson's with p90s.
I think the professional musician has a good idea of what he wants to play
This isn’t an SRV song
Well I mean he didn’t write it. He obviously played it and has the most famous version.
It went far, far away from the timbre and essence of Texas Flood.
I'm sorry, he sounds better.
