Dude he covered Workin Man’s Blues during the middle of his set and then closed with Time (Pink Floyd) and transitioned wildflowers and wine into ramblin man. Great set
I thinking Steven's looking down with a big o'smile and loving every second of this marcus is absolutely one of the best young talents going in music today loving everything he's done and he's got alot of year's to go which is fantastic for us he's a old soul in a young man's body
I love that he isn't just trying to sound like another replica of SRV's tone and phrasing. That's what makes a great guitar player great - doing it his own way without turning it into a different song. And he's got that "edge of going overboard" energy thing to his playing that certainly gets my attention.
I’m 75 years old and I just heard about Marcus recently. I read somewhere he is transgender…my grandson is transgender too and it’s nice to see young people playing music like this. Godbless
@@jonde4445 I guess that makes me a youngster at only 70, although I sure don't feel so young anymore. I had not heard he was trans. I would've never guessed. I don't have any issues with that one way or another.
The real ones know that SRV would’ve loved Marcus and loved his version of Texas Flood! The world doesn’t need another SRV clone!!! But the real star here is the slide player …. my god that was a masterful piece of playing 🙏
To the fella that said..the world doesn't need another SRV CLONE. Marcus isn't trying to be his clone. He is simply giving respect to a late great on his would be Birthday. One day a much younger man will be giving such to this fella Marcus King!
Stevie & marcus are from different necks of the woods, so they should sound nothing alike. I love it I was a huge SRV fan ,this dude is legit .BB King & SRV had a baby
Just saw Marcus and his incredible band at the House of Blues in Boston and he did not disappoint!! Great live act if you ever get the chance, check him out
I don't believe anyone plays Stevie like Marcus, but this rendition is insane. More akin to hearing Johnny and Edgar Winter cover this song. So awesome to hear this, ty!!
Actually this isn't a Stevie Ray Vaughan song. He covered it. A guy named Larry Davis actually wrote and recorded the song in 1958. It became a blues standard and then SRV went on to cover it. The original version is pretty good too
I already addressed this with another commenter. Most people know the SRV version and this was performed on what would have been his 70th birthday. So since Marcus is obviously honoring SRV, and many don't know the original, I put an easy indentifier in the title and then a note to the original in the remarks section below the video. Thanks for your reply and cheers!
Dude, you don’t have a clue what you’re talking about. Ain’t no such thing as too loud or too fast. He’s the most amazing young guitarist in the universe.
Thanks for the clarification. I will update it on Setlist.fm and put a note on this. Since most people aren't familiar with Larry Davis or his version, I will leave the title alone for search and attention purposes. Cheers - SCS
I love about 80 percent of this. Tone, amazing as always. Vocals, damn. Love the slide solo. But ... I was expecting an explosive launch into a Marcus solo, and instead he kind of teased and when he *did* let loose pushed it too hard. Still a great cover, but I was not killed dead by the end of it as I had been expecting.
I asked on another clip if he'd ditched the horns and backing singer mid tour, and it seems he has. I've got a couple of tickets for a UK show next month. I'll have to liaise with the other half to see if she still wants to go now (assuming it's just the 5 piece). It's all sounding a little generic to my ears, nothing wrong with it, but can't see my wife being overjoyed! (She liked the bigger band). Great video though, much appreciated.
The other instruments are mostly unnecessary in relation to most of the music he plays. There's a reason why they call themselves the Marcus King Trio....
I always enjoy Marcus King‘s vocals. I think that’s the bright spot for him. He’s still overplays, plays too loud, & too fast. when I think of blues, I don’t typically associate orange amplifiers with it. It’s a completely different sound. Definitely a cool interpretation of the song. I believe as he matures as a musician he’ll adjust his playing to fit the song rather than always playing the same irregardless of what song he’s playing or style of music he chooses to incorporate into his set list. I’m glad to see there’s somebody out there that’s from the new guard that’s keeping the blues alive. There are very few Titans left to carry the flame. 🎉❤
I was thinking “these guys are playing at the blues” You can tell the drummer has a metal background, he doesn’t swing. As good as the players are, this was like a bad blues open mic night. For the record, I’m a big fan of Marcus King.
Marcus playing this tribute to SRV on what would've been his 70th birthday. Respect. RIP Stevie.
Thanks brother.
Dude he covered Workin Man’s Blues during the middle of his set and then closed with Time (Pink Floyd) and transitioned wildflowers and wine into ramblin man. Great set
Unbelievable. At a recent concert in berlin he player Thriller by Michael Jackson, then transitioned to wildflowers and then to ramblin man
Oh man i would love to here him do time!!Any videos of that one??
Haha really that’s actually insane.

Marcus on a strat, just wow! Plus Drew on the slide was KILLER!!!
who the heck is Drew? Damn !!!
@@joedunn7224 Mr Drew Smithers. Right he is amazing and great together with Marcus.
It blows my mind that he isn't a superstar yet, because he absolutely fuckin AMAZING!!
Oh, HE IS.
Seen him 7 times !!
I love him, use to bring him up on stage with my ole band in Greenville SC but his lyrics need a little work. Musically he's got it all
@@DanHudson-k4s im seeing him in 2 hours

Very respectful version of Texas Flood! Keep on Rockin 🎸 Marcus 🤘✌️
Drew Smithers on slide is an absolute BEAST!!!!!
Stevie & marcus are from different necks of the woods, so they should sound nothing alike. I love it I was a huge SRV fan ,this dude is legit .BB King & SRV had a baby
Wow I can't believe I missed this show!!! I was just about to check for a tour date in Houston 😭
My band in Greenville SC use to bring him up on stage before he was old enough to even be in the bar. Get it brother
I saw a video of him when he was 14 shredding at a blues bar. The guy is what legends are made of
incredibly tasteful slide playing there. hats off to Marcus giving a platform to someone else!
Just saw Marcus and his incredible band at the House of Blues in Boston and he did not disappoint!! Great live act if you ever get the chance, check him out
I mean, this is a generational talent for sure.
That slide intro part of the solo is killer🤟🏻🤟🏻🤟🏻
Agreed, Drew is fantastic!!!

Cardiff 10th 11th 2024 I’m stoked to have a ticket to catch Marcus and his band live, can’t wait to hear that soul 👍🏻❤️

Lol and all along the watch tower isn’t Jimi’s song… but it kinda is though. They did their renditions in their own style that made it theirs.
I did not realize that. For some reason I thought Albert King wrote it. I’ve seen Lukas Nelson play his live with Willie.
true musicianship right there boys
Marcus kings 2nd guitarist’s solo was amazing
Wow, great vocals and guitar 🎸, the band are no lightweights❤
incredible tone

Exceptional, what a joy to listen to.
I wish yall could have seen him as a teenager playing in downtown Greenville. Just unreal.
For the record, Larry Davis wrote Texas Flood and SRV took it next-level with his cover.
Thanks for the clarification. I will update it on Setlist.fm and put a note on this. Since most people aren't familiar with Larry Davis or his version, I will leave the title alone for search and attention purposes. Cheers - SCS
Playing a strat. Sounds better than ever
Straight up soul
The Straocaster .....
Best guitar ever.
Who is the slide player on the SG? Dayum!!
Drew Smithers!!
He played in a band called Bishop Gunn before, great stuff check them out
That my friend is mr Derek Trucks! One of the greats
@@dylanhighwood7458no that’s not trucks lol
@@jayzhou104 mmm idk man. SG and slide sounds like trucks to me
Not a stevie & double trouble cover because SRV was covering Larry Davis
The slide player summons Duane Allman's ghost with aplumb.
Drew Smithers. Fantastic player!!!
That slide player stole the show
Yeah I’ve heard tons of slide players but I’ve never really heard one make their guitar sound like a bloody theremin like that, that was cool
His other hat looked so cool. I dunno why he’s going all 50’s country singer now 8>(
What do you want? Rhinestone Cowboy instead?
👏👏👏👏
Who is the other guitarist?
i wonder what kind of pedal he is using to get that killer tone
Its an Orange MK Ultra head…

Eveeyones a Critic........
The bleached version of Freddie King! :D
Brilliant, but he has got his strat to sound like a Gibson, he should have just used one of the hollow bodied Gibson's with p90s.
I think the professional musician has a good idea of what he wants to play
Now we see why is the Stevie one and only...nor even like the original
I always enjoy Marcus King‘s vocals. I think that’s the bright spot for him. Too much neck pickup to make it work as SRV but nice tribute anyway,...
I'm sorry, he sounds better.
He is a great guitar player no doubt, I think he over plays too much and his tone is not all that great to my ears
Kinda have to agree with you there. I've seen/heard some of his others where he sounds better. This wasn't one of them.
A few more spaces between the fireworks would definitely be appropriate once in awhile...
This isn’t an SRV song
Well I mean he didn’t write it. He obviously played it and has the most famous version.
