Been looking into red dots of this type. Thank you very much for your attention to detail and passing it on. The scratches on the body don't bother me...it is the lens and functions that irk me.
Thank you for this video. Bought the exact same sight a year ago and it was working fine. I took it off my pistol, put it on my shelf, and now it won't turn on. I changed the batteries to no avail. Guess I'll be sending mine in as well
Just got mine in the mail today. Same thing glue coming out of the lenses area. Not entirely finished. I’m hoping it doesn’t start oxidizing as others have stated in the comments. Not impressed at all. I’ll update if I notice more QC issues
Hey Big J. Thanks for the help in what look for on optics. I didn’t think that there was that much issues with dots. If you don’t mind can I ask your opinion on the Swampfox Optics. I am colorblind and the few red dots I did try, it seemed like my eyes had a hard time picking up the dot so I like green optics. All the Holosun’s that do have green dots have been out of stock & after watching the review that Tactical Considerations did and the price the Optics Planet had it for, and availability of the green dot, I figured why not try it out. I know it is made in China as well so, it probably won’t be a permanent fixture, but thought for a starter pistol dot it might be okay. Price wise it was hard to pass up on especially since this will be my first dot. I have it already & am having the slide milled for it & on the upside it does have that RMR footprint. Just was curious if you have tried it and if so what was your take on it? Again thanks for the info on what I need to be looking at when I get my next dot.
We have had a few dozen like this, not only on the titanium ones either. We returned them as customers had issues like yourself. Initially Holosun said it doesnt effect performance, but thats like saying you buy a new car with scratches, but it doesn't effect its peformance. They did exchange them, but werent happy about it each time. Only noticed this in MRDS, none of their other offerings as of yet.
Hey, my 508T experience has been pretty bad too. My first one had a solar panel that was completely lop sided. They sent me a replacement a month later and this one has the glue on the screen and TONS of blemishes on the outside and bottom. It looks like it went through a automatic car wash with brillo pads. Sending it back again.
Mine wouldn't shift into auto mode when I pulled it out of the box. After numerous calls to Holosun I finally was able to get someone that suggested to replace the battery. I did that and all is good but not comforting. Does that mean the batteries will die in weeks? Mine also has the coating issues but to be honest, I didn't even notice until watching the video. As long as it doesn't oxidize I'm fine with it.

i have one of those and when i checked it out from seeing your video it was exactly like yours inside it looked grey like if it was not properly coated but then i used my finger and it was just dust that rubbed off with my finger and it all looked normal after dark black coating.

Yeah the glue thing just happened to me… also they had different solar panels on the first one I received which was far superior to the replacement I received… what I mean by superior is the auto brightness was at least twice if not three times as bright on the original(The one with the horrible glue job) I received. The replacement you can’t even use the auto brightness it’s too dim…
I got a 508t v2 gr a couple months ago and noticed a bit of glue residue on the edges of the lense also. It wasn't a big glob like on the one you passed in. It bothered me at first that a optic maker would let something like that pass qc, but seeing as how I waited 3 months for it I let it go. After using in though I barely notice the residue when shooting .
Funny I just had ALL the issues you mentioned on my HOLOSUN HE507C-GR X2 I just received today. Box was pro factory sealed but optic had all your issues but also had scratches from tool use and missing second set of screws.obviously a used returned and resold..i requested from Amazon a replacement due in few days..Paying $330 for a NEW optic i would expect it to be flawless but was not.im giving them 2nd chance, otherwise done w holosun if 2nd one is junk again..☝️
I have heard people complaining about the same quality control issues with recent purchases of 507 & 509 holosun's infact some thought they received knockoffs from Amazon because of the sloppy glue job around the lens
Thank you so much for sharing this info. We should buy American products even if they are made in China. Chinese quality what you get ...substanard and mass production. There are plenty of American companies that make red dots and even have better price than the Holosuns.
As much as I love these. The QC on these suck. The finish in line had like bumps and flakes under the paint and behind the glass the ridges were grey like yours . I’m almost sure mine I got off Amazon was used or returned. There were some finger prints and mar on the dials like someone installed it. Zeroed it then returned it.
After a year of searching for one, I had to send mine back to holosun due to it having a crooked reticle. I've owned a few before the 508t X2, and I'm disappointed to say it seems like their QC may have slipped in the past year.
@@tylernx there's an easy way to tell. If you rotate the optic and the irregularities rotate as well, then it's the optic. If they don't move as you rotate the optic, it's your eyes.
The 32 moa sight on two that I ordered are not level. Comparing side-by-side I'd be forced to go with Trijicon RMRcc for this reason, in addition to the glue and quality of glass cutting. Unfortunately, there's no good mounting option for p365 x macro with small of a mounting plate as holosun. I really hope they fix their QC.

Got mine couple days ago from Brownells and the inside of mine is like that almost grey too. The outside against a black slide is not a true black coating, to me it’s more of a dark chocolate brown because black would be like the battery tray. No glue issues on mine or setting issues just the coating on the inside looks like yours. It’s cosmetic for me. I can live with it.

I love holosun and will be super excited to see what’s to come from them. As of now I just bit the bullet and cried once and paid once for a trijicon RM06 and it’s worth it! I also have a 507c x2 and the trijicon is superior. The auto mode on trijicon is way better the one on holosun doesn’t work well at all especially with a light. It’s way more durable and crisper.

@@vernievuitton not a Big deal removing the rmr it’s once a year sometimes longer. Also it’s much cleaner and has a better dot imo. I love both but would choose the rmr over the 507c every time

The titanium housing, removable battery tray, solar panel, and updated 2 MOA dot 32 MOA ring reticle takes the cake imo! Tbh, I think the RMR is a little over priced and over hyped for the features it lacks in 2021, but Maybe we'll see an update and response from RMR though, wouldn't that be cool!

Damn, I have two of them in box waiting to be installed. Waiting forever on backordered adapter plates. I need to pull them out and inspect them now. I'm almost afraid to find something worse. In another video the guys reticle hashmarks were cockeyed. Holosun has been in the optics business for a long time. Laser tubes/lens, microscopes ect. I just don't understand how they find this level of quality control acceptable. I'm a business owner and I never let product go out that is flawed or defective. Holosun knows the bulk of their sales is from the states. They should also be aware of the American consumers expectation of quality. I think they just don't care. Thanks for the video. Update: I just checked them both and they're perfect. I bought them both over Amazon. Could it be that Holosun's quality control for product on it's way to Amazon is stricter for fear of losing their vendor agreement? Just a thought.
I recently received my 508 after months of waiting. Had the same issues you discussed plus part of the inside lens was dinged upon arrival. Sent it back to holosun and they quickly emailed me a tracking number with my new 508 (did not provide any other info other than tracking number; thought that was strange as I went back and forth with them prior to sending it back for warranty work). Opened the new 508 optic, and though the lens is better, I still have the unfinished side walls like you showed in the video, as well as excess glue around the lens; however, now the elevation and windage adjustments are reversed (up adjustment makes the dot go lower, left adjustment makes the dot go right). Planning to reach out to holosun again. Makes me regret not getting RMR or even 507. Not sure what is going on with holosun, especially considering the price tag on the 508. Thank you for sharing the issues you experienced, wish I saw this video months ago.
The "up" is supposed to make the dot go down. The adjustments are for bullet impacts. By moving the dot down you aim higher and your bullet impacts higher. That isn't a defect.
Made in China and it's almost impossible to even get into the country right now. Just to travel to one district to another you need to be quarantined so I don't think anyone from holosun is even visiting the manufacturing facility right now. I'm working with a Chinese manufacturer making a cnc brake press and my contact goes to the facility a couple days a week because he lives in a different district and it's a hassle for him just to get to work. We wanted to go visit the facility in person but did multiple video conferences before making a decision to buy. I could imagine tons of QC issues could arise especially on thousands of small units like this. At least I only have to focus on the quality of one machine.
I just mine after waiting 4 months from OP has some grey in the inside wings as you mention, battery installed , no long screws luckily my shadow systems comes with mounting screws and I did not get the pickatinny height mount you show? Looking at whats in the box and their web site also does not show that? Very strange not sure if it was suppose to have it or not?
Wow Holosun is off of the list. Looking for an Optic for the CZ Shadow 2... Just for the range. Nothing too expensive or special. I have a astigmatism and a significant sight deficit in one eye so whatever can help. I love your videos. This one was so helpful. It's more difficult now than before since you buy the stuff online and you're unable to look at it in the store and pre-empt of these issues.
Just opened my 508T and it's rough rough rough. Seller says to contact Holosun as their QC has been off. What were you able to do if anything to get better products?

I ordered a green dot X2 in December and they still havent shipped.. granted I'm starting to see more Red dot X2's go into stock so hopefully my greens coming soon.. Considering just cancelling and going red..

The only way a person would know if theirs had most of the issues you ran into was if they were very familiar with the red dots like you are. Most folks would have no idea if theirs was malfunctioning. There really is a difference in terms of manufacturing in the US and importing from factories you’re not really in control of. That’s just reality

I switched to holosun from trijicon rmr's for one main reason...battery tray on top.I am aware of the sro,I had one...it's ok.No more rmr's for me until they get with the current times & put battery on top
I honestly sold my rmr for one of these. Mainly for the battery tray even though yeah the sro has one. But the circular housing always worried me. I’d rather the square and the window is a bit bigger than an rmr.
Although changing the battery on the rmr changes nothing.... After yrs and yrs and several batteries it's changed nothing..... Comparing the holosun to an rmr is apples and oranges.... Some try to save a few bucks but not worth it in the end.
It is when you have over 25 milled / optic ready pistols. I have 16 Holosuns & have for over 3 years with not one issue from them. I have gone thru 1 RMR, 2 DPP, 1 Romeo 1 & 1 SRO already. Carry On
I have the Version one of the 508t which looks like the 507c. I have no problems at all. It’s a great dot. Very few were sold before they switched to the 508t v2..
I’m not knocking holosun.I had a 510c that failed. They replaced it and quickly. Lifetime warranties and customer service are great but I prefer to buy things that don’t need to be sent back .
Personally if your not checking a several hundred dollar optic before buying you kinda deserve what ya get haha 😂 unless your 12 there’s no excuse in my eyes. 🤷♂️
@@BigJohnsonGG That’s why I NEVER buy these online, sometimes it’s a headache but I’ve got 3-4 suppliers that seem to always have something in stock. I was honestly messing with the 507 as I typed that, thought I had one that just died lol turns out that damn sleep mode was active and I’m a genius, had the battery in upside down. The best part is I own 5+ Holosun dots, I know how the battery goes haha 😂

I have only tried the older model, The older models use to burn thru batteries. I hear the new ones are better on the battery. Carry on

Dunno if you found the solution since it's been a year, but you can change the "brightness" of the auto brightness
Had issues with mine too. Pretty much done with Holosun. It’s too bad because I love the empty circle reticle.

Ive seen glue lense on Eotech as well. Maybe it is not as easy as we expect.

Just received the green reticle version and it gave it a good thorough quality check. No blems whatsoever.

Update:
I just checked them both and they're perfect. I bought them both over Amazon. Could it be that Holosun's quality control for product on it's way to Amazon is stricter for fear of losing their vendor agreement? Just a thought.

Holosun QA is hit or miss
I recently received my 508 after months of waiting. Had the same issues you discussed plus part of the inside lens was dinged upon arrival. Sent it back to holosun and they quickly emailed me a tracking number with my new 508 (did not provide any other info other than tracking number; thought that was strange as I went back and forth with them prior to sending it back for warranty work). Opened the new 508 optic, and though the lens is better, I still have the unfinished side walls like you showed in the video, as well as excess glue around the lens; however, now the elevation and windage adjustments are reversed (up adjustment makes the dot go lower, left adjustment makes the dot go right). Planning to reach out to holosun again. Makes me regret not getting RMR or even 507. Not sure what is going on with holosun, especially considering the price tag on the 508. Thank you for sharing the issues you experienced, wish I saw this video months ago.
The "up" is supposed to make the dot go down. The adjustments are for bullet impacts. By moving the dot down you aim higher and your bullet impacts higher. That isn't a defect.
Made in China and it's almost impossible to even get into the country right now. Just to travel to one district to another you need to be quarantined so I don't think anyone from holosun is even visiting the manufacturing facility right now.
I'm working with a Chinese manufacturer making a cnc brake press and my contact goes to the facility a couple days a week because he lives in a different district and it's a hassle for him just to get to work. We wanted to go visit the facility in person but did multiple video conferences before making a decision to buy.
I could imagine tons of QC issues could arise especially on thousands of small units like this. At least I only have to focus on the quality of one machine.

I just mine after waiting 4 months from OP has some grey in the inside wings as you mention, battery installed , no long screws luckily my shadow systems comes with mounting screws and I did not get the pickatinny height mount you show? Looking at whats in the box and their web site also does not show that? Very strange not sure if it was suppose to have it or not?

Wow Holosun is off of the list. Looking for an Optic for the CZ Shadow 2... Just for the range. Nothing too expensive or special. I have a astigmatism and a significant sight deficit in one eye so whatever can help. I love your videos. This one was so helpful. It's more difficult now than before since you buy the stuff online and you're unable to look at it in the store and pre-empt of these issues.

Just opened my 508T and it's rough rough rough. Seller says to contact Holosun as their QC has been off. What were you able to do if anything to get better products?
I just rolled with mine, as long as the glass is clear from glue I’m good. My older ones were always perfect so I’m sure their QC has been slipping.

I ordered a green dot X2 in December and they still havent shipped.. granted I'm starting to see more Red dot X2's go into stock so hopefully my greens coming soon.. Considering just cancelling and going red..

Two years later and its still shit QC. Sight wont even turn on and it has the glue ring. Reason why I wont buy cheap sights are even give them a try.
The only way a person would know if theirs had most of the issues you ran into was if they were very familiar with the red dots like you are. Most folks would have no idea if theirs was malfunctioning. There really is a difference in terms of manufacturing in the US and importing from factories you’re not really in control of. That’s just reality

I switched to holosun from trijicon rmr's for one main reason...battery tray on top.I am aware of the sro,I had one...it's ok.No more rmr's for me until they get with the current times & put battery on top
I honestly sold my rmr for one of these. Mainly for the battery tray even though yeah the sro has one. But the circular housing always worried me. I’d rather the square and the window is a bit bigger than an rmr.
Although changing the battery on the rmr changes nothing.... After yrs and yrs and several batteries it's changed nothing..... Comparing the holosun to an rmr is apples and oranges.... Some try to save a few bucks but not worth it in the end.
It is when you have over 25 milled / optic ready pistols. I have 16 Holosuns & have for over 3 years with not one issue from them.
I have gone thru 1 RMR, 2 DPP, 1 Romeo 1 & 1 SRO already. Carry On

I have the Version one of the 508t which looks like the 507c. I have no problems at all. It’s a great dot. Very few were sold before they switched to the 508t v2..

I like them & have many of them.
I’m not knocking holosun.I had a 510c that failed. They replaced it and quickly. Lifetime warranties and customer service are great but I prefer to buy things that don’t need to be sent back .

I was honestly messing with the 507 as I typed that, thought I had one that just died lol turns out that damn sleep mode was active and I’m a genius, had the battery in upside down. The best part is I own 5+ Holosun dots, I know how the battery goes haha 😂
