    My dad used to sprint in college back in the 70's. They used to do "heart rate cool downs". They'd do 400s and 200s, and when their heart rate would return to 70 BPM, they'd go again. At the end of the season, they could compare time between runs as well as run times themselves to see improvement in performance as well as conditioning.

    Carl came all the way to Canada to coach Jared and another long jumper at the Canadian championships last summer. These guys aren't world class athletes but Carl was going the extra mile (literally) to help them. I admired how much energy he put into athletes who weren't big stars but were just part of his Houston team. I spent some time talking with him and he is much more humble now than when he was younger and has a good attitude to coaching. It was fun to see him running around trying to give athletes help as if they were his own kids. He's just another coach out there doing what the rest of us do coaching our athletes... except that he is a legend, of course!! Good job, Carl.

    • @ROLLSTARENTERTAINMENT
      @ROLLSTARENTERTAINMENT 6 років тому +16

      Peter S quite frankly, I'm offended you sit behind your computer screen and have the nerve to say me and my teammate are "not world class athletes". Yes we aren't on the world stage now, but we're working on it and Carl sees the potential to reach the highest level. At Canadian nationals I was still battling injuries and my body was beat up from the season, also, my teammate nate hadn't trained for six weeks prior to nationals so he wasn't in competition shape. We have big dreams and are putting in the work to achieve them so I'd appreciate if you didn't limit us with your doubtful comments.

      lol at "not world class athletes". he's a long jumper running sub 50 400m in a workout (I'm aware he used to be a 400m hurdler), and this year has further gone into world class range at 8.14m. the 2019 standard for Doha is 8.17. sprinting is so technical is really is a chess game if you ask me. The human anatomy has little left to allow us run faster but the technical details allow so much room. He who runs the the perfect race shall win. It is an addictive sport.

    Lewis seems like an amazing coach... couldn't imagine being trained by a guy with so much knowledge who can actually translate it to you and coach it.

    We use to do the same exercises during practice in high school. Ours times were consistently better. Just shows how much talent we actually had.

    Great vid. Apologize if this has been answered/asked already, but does anyone know what kind of times Carl and Leroy would run during this workout back in the late 80's, early 90's?
