You’re the only other person I’ve ever seen curl their tongue to create a two tone resonance in their scream. I do it for gutturals and highs to create my tunnel technique. Legit thought I invented it haha
Thank you for this, it is the one thing I want to practice and tone to get since hearing “Scourge of the Offspring” harmonised this sounds brilliant for chorus vocals, Travis Ryan sounds amazing in the song and just want to do it the same so bad 😭 THANK YOU SO MUCH I’LL BE PRACTICING THIS!!!
I just discover your channel, these 30sec shorts are amazing, you are trully great at it. Please please I wanna see Peter Tagtgren from Hypocrisy, this guy high screams are ridiculous ...
If you want the Marge Simpson high pitched screams, do an edge jazz growl, then add some uvula rattling and place it weird. For the low screams, you want to try to sing under a regular false-cord scream that's been dialed back into "growl" terrority, then add some voice back. For the low, base your fc off of kargyraa because the pharyngeal compression/constriction present in khovu kargyraa (not Dag-Kargyraa) is the same compression in khöömei, which can be used to trigger the arytenoids without the vocal fry curse of vocal-fold distortion. Theoretically, you will get both false-fold and arytenoid distortion at the same time (mixed drive scream)
Could you do the lows from wage war? Maybe some Alex ex-chelsea grin? Those are by far the two most utilized voices in my head when I write music, yet I cant even begin to sound remotely like either.
He does a lot of silly sounds. He does a regular ass fry scream, a regular ass vocal fry scream (which this video is on), a jazz growl in head voice combined with uvula and saliva rattles, a mixed drive scream (which I have yet to see David do a video on), and a vocal compression scream. That can't be demonstrated and taught in just one TikTok/Short
thanks a lot for all these videos! Travis Ryan is an absolute beast. It would be very interesting if you can try to emulate Glen Benton from Deicide and Barney from Napalm Death (on the recent albums)
could you do a video on how to do vocals like Joe Duplantier? I can do some guttural screams and stuff but I've never been able to do melodic screams like him
You really don't want to do screams like him, but you can sound like him in a way that won't distress the vocal folds as much. Basically, his technique is to forcefully hold back air with his vocal-folds (glottis) while belting to trigger the false-folds. If you want to sound like him without doing that, learn Ken Tamplin's method of vocal distortion. If you don't want to wait through a 10 minute ad, Anthony Vincent teaches it in a video where he went on someone else's channel where they gave each other lessons (opera and metal respectively), but he doesn't cover "levels" of distortion and his explanations are weird.
I've seen your playlist on false chord screams, and that really helped unlock that barrier for me. Is there a playlist for fry screams as well? Either way, keep up to tops content
You're literally just curling and slamming your epiglottis against the back of your throat for Skinless-style Slamming Brutal Death Metal vocals. This won't cause damage but the more you do it without taking a break in order to let the epiglottis swelling go down, your risk of suffocating increases slightly. For Guttural Slug-style, it's just a false-cord mid with weird enunciation.
Hey dude, love your videos, they’re sort of helpful because I learned vocals absolutely on my own with no knowledge. I’d like to know if you can make a video on projection? I have a tough time with making noise most of time and my lows just sound like whispers unless im in a small room or something
Hey David so idk if this normal for someone to do when their asleep like literally not the experience cuz yesterday afternoon I was beginning to wake up n all of sudden I find myself growling like an actual animal n I know it may seem crazy but I really dont know like afterwards I did that my throat beg as in to feel major discomfort n hard to breathe n making my head hurt
the vocals for those more clean sounding choruses cattle has been doing since monolith is a technuiqe travis is pioneering in death metal. I believe hes doing that by basically doing a fry but focusing more on the note rather than the distortion in that scream. idk how else to explain it tbh but thats what i do to achieve a similar sound
He doesn't really *scream*, just uses compression rasp and arytenoid rasp. Early Avenged sevenfold was The Rev screaming I believe, and he did what sounds like khöömei projected upwards to trigger the arytenoids (without the vocal folds bubbling and creating distortion from vocal fry). Hopefully this helped
Without seeing what you’re doing it’d be hard to give an answer but check out this video and see if that helps you get on the right track: ua-cam.com/video/0cxP1gt8Rx0/v-deo.html
Different techniques are going to work for different people - sometimes it depends on your specific voice, mouth shape, etc. with the techniques David shows in this series it’s based on how he can get most people to recreate the tone/feel. It’s definitely not a “one size fits all” though
Probably a very unpopular opinion but i really don't get the hype about Travis Ryan :/ am i missing something? Sure he isn't bad but i don't get why everyone thinks he's the best 🤷 Please recommend me a song where his vocals shine the most so i can maybe appreciate him more

This technique has actually been around for a long time!
You are the most entertaining, yet easiest to follow vocal coach I have ever seen... Thank you for all the amazing content
A Dickie Allen one would be so awesome 👌🏻 great work

Oh here it is! This is the one I've been looking for!

Also for the highs you'll want to place it like the Stitch character voice
God bless you g
Please do some Will Ramos pleaseee

Hello There
The "Bring Back The Plague" chorus scream part is so good, is it two track, that makes one, or he made that sound?

What about his “clean” vocals?
To me at least, it just sounds like singing with fry. I could totally be wrong, I'm not an expert, but that's my guess.

I need Chester Bennington scream
Matt McGachy would be cool ;D

I don’t think this is how it’s done or I just do it differently.

sad period to see guys making money liké that
You didn’t achieve a very prominent polyphonic tone that Travis can do. You had the right idea at first but somewhere it fell off imo.
