Lyrics
I wanna ask you -
Do you ever sit and wonder,
It's so strange
That we could be together for
So long, and never know, never care
What goes on in the other one's head?
Things I've felt but I've never said
You said things that I never said
So I'll say something that I should have said long ago:
(You don't know me)
You don't know me at all
(You don't know me)
You don't know me at all (at all)
AHEAD OF ITS TIME
***** Obviously because the resolution sucks ass.
Adam Salemi knock knock, whos there.....*slam* thats what stupid comments about taking this literally makes me want to do
The world was a lot different in 2008, 10 years things changed a lot.
The song would be a massive hit if it came out in 2011/2012
@@ethenswords2134 It would be a massive hit today. With all the cheaters, liers, scammers, etc....It shows we can't trust anyone.
However at the same time since we can't trust anyone we refuse to find out how they are. We judge people on pictures or videos instead of their actions and achievements. We take everything out of context to warp it into our meaninglessness advantage. Like a poem derived of any life we stomp it merely for being different and conform to social standards only in place so we may look accepting. We don't question the right things anymore. We're to busy consumed on how to appropriately speak with someone without offending insteas of looking at the government to see they have us incredibly distracted....
So I've been listening to this song for the longest time and I finally decided to watch the video and this is what I get. Tim and Eric. of course.
:D
Same. Spotify premium expired for me so I'm in youtube for music now. Didn't expect to see the dynamic duo.
SAME
THIS IS TIM AND ERIC?!?! O_o
SAME LOL
This video came out at a time when I had a pretty heavy obsession with Regina Spektor, Ben Folds, and Tim and Eric all at once so this video felt like the greatest personal gift ever
That’s beautiful
Same. Me and my group of friends.
I remember going to see Regina Spektor in Houston at warehouse live around 2009 😢
@@TheArthurdaley1221 fuck I'm jealous she doesn't tour Australia
The song alone captures the bitterness of growing resent in a relationship really well. But I love how the music video takes it and turns it into a silly mockery of the dances we do and shows the two swapping places--stepping into each others shoes--and finding that love underneath it all. Also, as someone who is T4T, seeing the two happier after swapping presentations is making me emotional lol
T4T is great. I wish my relationship was going well tho, hehe... :c
THE REAL GEM HERE IS THE FACT THAT JOSH GROBAN JUST POPS IN FOR LIKE A ONE SECOND FRAME TOWARDS THE END
regina's voice = pure amazingness. MORE PLEASE!
Regina Spektor??
@@cheesecakelasagna It is her vocals, but I'm unsure about how much she collaborated with making the song
How could a woman with one of the best voices on the planet not still be able to get something going is beyond me….
@@robbonaiuto3501 What
@@robbonaiuto3501Her song in 500 Days of Summer totally made the climax of the movie. 🎵 “I’m the hero of this story! I don’t need to be saved!” 🎵
Seeing Ben play this in Virginia Beach last night and having the crowd sing the Regina parts was magical.
Wasn't that a great concert?!? So intimate. Loved that my daughter was more into it than I was.
@@bondgren37 can you upload a video of the concert?
I was listening to this song and thinking "man, this feels like a Regina Spektor song", and then she started singing. Well then.
I recognize that voice everywhere and I love it everytime
Her voice in this song gives me goosebumps! I love it so much! They sound so great together!
Went to Ben's concert in Iowa a few months back, and the audience sang Regina's part on this song. So much fun
This music video is incredibly appropriate for the song. Thank god for Tim and Eric.
DAMN THIS SONG HIT DIFFERENT WHEN IT REMIND YOU OF YOUR PARENTS’ CRUMBLING RELATIONSHIP
Laughing but also crying
yeeeesss omg
Hella thankful for artists like Regina Spektor and Ben Folds for helping a weird and sentimental kid like me develop into an ever-weirder and ever-more-sentimental adult, hahaha 💜✨
this song has ended up on all of my pandora stations for the past 3 years
What an amazing song. This is why I love Ben Folds. He was a huge influence in my life in 1997 and 16 years later he's still Rockin the Suburbs and my life.
I used to watch this video as a kid all the time as my dad was a HUGE Ben Folds fan. I’m rewatching for the first time since I was about 12 and I JUST FUCKING REALIZED THE COUPLE IS MY FAVORITE PAIR OF COMEDIANS
Me, too, man. That keeps happening over and over to me with all sorts of shit, lmao. It feels a little like “small world”, but it really feels like a destiny thing to me, for real, like I’m so just one person and everything I’ve ever liked and everything I ever will like is so intrinsically linked with everything else I like that it feels unreal.
I love this song. It’s about how you can never truly know someone (even in the most intimate of long term relationships between couples) and that’s part of the reason for attraction in the first place, because attraction stems from our desire to want to get to know someone. It’s the act of learning about someone that is the attractive part, it’s not the knowing everything there is to know about them, it’s the learning those things little by little that we want.
I loved your explanation!
Nope, it’s a song about a liberating breakup from a toxic, possessive, controlling partner, and being able to turn them down when they want to reconcile. It’s not about personal growth, it’s about having a partner who tried to control him and make him be someone other than who he is; it’s a song about breaking free of a toxic relationship, and staying free of it. “If I’m the person that you think I am, the clueless chump you seem to think I am, so easily led astray, an errant who occasionally escapes and needs a shorter leash, then-why the fuck would you want me back? Maybe it’s because-you don’t know me at all.” I remember reading an article where he said it was about a bad breakup.
@@drewsylvester3088 Best to trust anonymous UA-cam comments for irrelevant and nonsensical song insights, though.
the collaboration of voices of ben folds and regina spektor is amazing
"Hello?"
"Hey Josh, it's Ben."
"Oh hey Ben, what's up?"
"Eh, not too much. Listen, would you like to sing and make a couple of faces for a few seconds for a Tim and Eric video I'm doing?"
"Yeah sure man, that sounds fun."
bcaprari Check out Josh Gorban sings Casey Tatum
😂🙌💥👌
I predict that this song will resurface in 2023
Edit: maybe some other time.
IT BETTER. this song was ahead of it's time.
it definitely should!!
I hope you're right
I hope it does it was my favorite song in 2017
Mhm
Even after 10 years this song is great
This song has literally been on my mind since November. It's been years since I heard it, and I feel so satisfied knowing what it's called. Sucks when the only thing you can't remember is the lyrics.

This song just has such a lovely melody to it. Regina and Ben should sing more songs together.
I didn't know that Ben Folds and Regina Spektor teamed up!!!
I'm in love with this song!
Thumb up if you knew this song existed before the nationwide commercial
i didn't even know this was in a nationwide commercial

Oh me too! is a great song, i love Regina and Ben Folds!
Thank you Nationwide for bringing Ben Folds to the masses. Ben Folds is amazinnngggg!
i'm glad that this ben folds song is being used in a commercial. good for him.
What I don't get is how so many of Ben Folds amazing songs have less than a million views, yet so many terrible artists do. Love you Ben, your music is amazing! You've inspired me since a kid and I still love your music now!
The best representation of projecting onto someone ever
My all time favorite music video. I don’t know how many times I’ve watched it.
I don't even know how I came across this song but I never hear it anywhere else and it's such a banger.
I wanna ask you -
Do you ever sit and wonder,
It's so strange
That we could be together for
So long, and never know, never care
What goes on in the other one's head?
Things I've felt but I've never said
You said things that I never said
So I'll say something that I should have said long ago:
(You don't know me)
You don't know me at all
(You don't know me)
You don't know me at all (at all)
You could have just propped me up on the table like a mannequin
Or a cardboard stand-up and paint me (paint me)
Any face that you wanted me
To be seen.
We're
Damned by the existential moment where
We saw the couple in the coma and
It was we were the cliche,
But we carried on anyway.
So, sure, I could just close my eyes.
Yeah, sure, trace and memorize,
But can you go back once you know
(You don't know me)
You don't know me at all
(You don't know me)
You don't know me at all (at all)
(You don't know me)
You don't know me at all
(You don't know me)
You don't know me
If I'm the person that you think I am (Ah ah ahh)
Clueless chump you seem to think I am (Ah ah ahhh)
So easily led astray,
An errant dog who occasionally escapes and needs a shorter leash, then
Why the fuck would you want me back?!
Maybe it's because
(You don't know me at all)
Ahhh ah
Ahhh ah
(You don't know me,
you don't know me.)
Ahhh ah
Ahhh ah
So, what I'm trying to say is
What (What?)
I'm trying to tell you
It's not gonna come out like I wanna say it cause I know you'll only change it.
(Say it.)
(You don't know me)
You don't know me at all
(You don't know me)
You don't know me at all (at all)
(You don't know me)
You don't know me at all
(You don't know me)
You don't know me at all (at all)
What?
(Mmmm, ohh oh
Ah ah ah ah ah

Ah-ah-ah-ah-ah
Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh
Aha ah
Ah ah
Ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah
Oh-oh-oh-oh oh ohh)
Ben folds is special to me! When I was a teenager I played bass and my close friend played piano, you know the rest.
Its 2019. How did I not know there was a Ben Folds, Regina Spektor, Tim and Eric mashup?? This is beautiful.
Elle R. Don’t forget Josh Groban 2:43
I’ve been a fan of Ben since ‘97. Now that I’m older, I bet it’s almost impossible to carry on a relationship with him. It’s only a matter of time before he writes a song about how awful it is being with you. 😂
Thank you UA-cam for popping this beauty into my recommendations and reminding me it exists
I want to cry. I was going through my photos and screenshots from 2 and 3 years ago, and I found a screenshot of a Shazam search for this song. I guess I'd heard it and liked it so I wanted to save it, but I never did.
Now I'm getting into Ben's music (and also Regina's somewhat) and it turns out I could be deeper if I'd given it more of a chance, lol.😂😂😂
this song is pure gold
I've been looking for this song for ever
This video is hilarious. I love the close-ups of the people twitching. XD

Oh Ben... I love you so much. I yelled it at you after the show in San Diego a few years ago.

I don’t know where I heard this from but I just randomly thought of it and had to find what song it was and now that I did I’m glad, this song is so good 😊
BEEN TRYING TO FIND THIS SONG. THIS IS MY CHILDHOOD
This is... actually kinda depressing...
nah, just a song
I agree with you my friend
There is a hauntingly familiar feel to this, lurking in the void between the video and the song itself.
I cannot put my finger on just what it is, but depression along with desperation are two of the strongest emotions it brings.
More depressing is dating a guy who actually acted like this for 7 years, even more depressing than that is when you know everything about him except you never have that realization he doesn't know you at all, until you're 7 years in, because you thought you loved eachother to the same extent, which was incorrect.
@@theblackchicken2011 Depressing is that this song feels like it came out yesterday and it came out 12 years ago.
Sometimes, I feel sad, but then I remember that Tim and Eric are friends with Josh Groban, and I feel better.
Bang bang cops and robbers, bang bang robbers and cops!

this man is an incredible lyricist and singer
My two favorite singers !
Nationwide doesn't know me
Such a great song. I have battered the replay button. :)
Oh this duet is so beautiful.
This is calming.
to me it's about sexual dysfunction between two people who get along in many ways, over years. communication breaks down, intimacy weakens instead of grows, as one reaches outside the relationship for comfort. our hero points out the dynamic/communication was toxic, and admits a lot of weakness, but inevitably comes to peace by accepting their independence.
Great job!
I love both you guys. I've seen u each in concert. I played frisbee with Bens band in Utah... Anyway thank G-d for both of u
I think Ben folds is one of the greatest singers.
Sometimes great works of art come across as jovial...this is a masterpiece :-)

Funny? Tonight my gf and I got in a fight, which is rare. It broke my heart, and I retreated to this video. Only now I realize that regina spektor is the female vocalist in this song, and my gf is her biggest fan. She blasts her music ad nauseam. Tim and Eric are my heroes, and Ben folds? Eh.
