This was such an exceptional performance. Thank you for sharing this live glimpse of a loved and missed pioneer of Jazz music. “It's not about standing still and becoming safe. If anybody wants to keep creating they have to be about change.” ― Miles Davis 1926-1991 🌹
I was compelled to buy "Miles Sketches of Spain" due to this. It just resonates emotionally for some reason and I have yet to find out if it features in a Movie since it delivers a casual ascension to a dramatic musical story where the collaboration of instruments prompts unique anticipation at every turn.
I was turned on to Solera in 93. The Cat mentioned, that a was about a Torero ( bull fighter) ,that was killed in the arena. The Torero's Mother cried with for his son to come home. Every time M. Dave's playing this tune, the Mother grief never ends.
I love 2 of your videos, this one helped me make a 28 minute version of White Rabbit and, Summertime is one of 40+ renditions in my special playlist, your cut is 2nd!
First, listening to this performance, what in the world are they playing!? I am not being negative here. I'm glad to see Miles performing with Q.This young trumpeter (Wallace) is to Miles like Faddis was to Diizzy.
I understand zilch about jazz, but it enthralls me all the same. Though I listen to it a lot and allow it to wash over me at a very primal level, I can't help but envy those who 'understand' the subtle nuances of it because obviously that helps them enjoy it a lot more. I am not complaining, but why is jazz so complex as to seem almost random and unstructured? The fact that it is NOT is only too apparent because that ensemble has nothing less than 15 artists who know exactly what's happening and are in perfect sync with it.

oh my god, why is the band so terrible ? The woodwinds, the drummer...omg and the bass...there is no timing, no feel at all, they're way off...is this a joke ?
@@baldy555 No, i'm free to leave my opinion. You can move on if you don't like to read my opinion. Or return to your happy place, where everything is good.
I know this comment is under a different first name, but my name is Soléa and was named after this most beautiful ensemble, it's absolutely amazing...
Gil Evans is there with tears at the moment Quincy helped bring, and knowing his friend Miles would soon be joining him.
I have listened to this album a MILLION times and this song in particular moreso than any other. I find it astounding.
Edward Robinson, there is something about the Pan Piper that is mesmerizing. Beautiful song.
@@brianbyers5400 The thing is the phrygian mode.
I find the same from the Miles Espanol album also...Thanks

I'm not sure why but when I hear The Pan Piper my thoughts immediately turn to ancient Egypt.
Masterpiece
The final tercet (starting around 6:51) is one of two mortals against the Immortal.
👏🏾👏🏾
It's the leading up @ 5:00, it just starts to climb and rise and then relaxes for just a bit...
That 6:51 blows me away though

El caballero de la noche!!!!!!!!
Miles needed a little with this one.
Miles joue comme un lapin dépiauté au milieu d'une arène de taureau. Magnifiquement tragique.
