I got it running and learned everything I possibly could about the bike and taught myself to ride. Dying for my first Harley though that I can chop… just can’t afford to get one unfortunately . Hopefully some day soon!

i have an 86 fxwg thats electric start only it sat in a dirt floor garage for 14 years after being wrecked by the previous owner so a lot of things got changed when it was rebuilt before it was put in storage for that 14 years
Try this procedure for the Wide Glide: Leave the ignition off, open the enricher, ( no throttle) kick 3 times, bring up to compression, turn ignition on, KICK.

My 1984 Softail will be shocked to learn that her Evo engine doesn't exist. Not that it matters, but 1986 was the last year for FXWG and the 4 speed kicker.

Why would you take a number matching wide glide and take the trans out of it just to put in another scooter? Just lost value Hippie, really and 84’ is the official year of the introduction of the Evo, just saying cuz….hey not trying to argue bro, but I own a 84 shovel and I catch crap over articles and books such as Donnie Peterson saying it’s not the last year shovel. Even though the motor company says so!
ol buddy i hate 2 be the one 2 correct you on this, but the first half of 84 the wide glides had shovel heads, in the middle of the year they started to install the evo motors,, in 1985 the wide glides name was changed to soft-tail but it was the exact same bike, no more shovel head motors were built after 84 and a half, the reason i know this is because i bought one bran new in first half of 84, last of the shovels, and now you know the rest of the story...
@@troyangel7973 you are 100 percent right , and yes i do know the difference, the soft-tail replaced the wide glide in the fact that it looked like a hard-tail and they did not sell very many wide glides after that because of the looks, the swingarm bikes were kind of out dated after that and sales dropped way off, the soft tail took on the wide glide front end there 4 the wide glide faded into the past, also in 85 the 5 speed tranny became standard i think, you can correct me on this if im wrong, latter on...

@@BretOConnor that’s right Harley used a Shovel lower end and if you look at it also has a shovel primary on it and the starter is like a Shovel

I said all that too man, and I didn't swap anything from my 85. I'm thinking about swapping the 5 speed from my 98

Its only a softail if its a softail. Its a wide glide if it got a swing arm and shocks in the upright position. Thats the difference.
