I dont understand what considerations determine ideal position, wouldnt you just play whatever 3 chars you like and position is incidental? The only char i can think with a mechanic affected is base goku
@@yllekfrizco4557 depends on how you play and what assists you want. generally there are 3 types of characters: point, shell, and anchor. A point character is ostensibly what you build your team around, the character that gets all the benefit from both assists. They either kinda need the assists to function or just benefit from the mix potential. Good examples are Hit and Goku blue. Your shell character is your second, they are usually picked for their assists while also being solid characters in their own right. Bardock or super baby 2 are good examples. Your anchor is a character that functions entirely on their own merit, they don't need other characters to provide mixups and do every part of the game. Z broly and base goku are the most popular examples. They benefit the most from limit break and lvl 3 sparking and have quick grabs to play around for their own independent mix. Fun thing is that you can figure out for yourself who works in what role, there are very few characters that NEED to be in one spot to function right. It's Hit.
@@yllekfrizco4557 It matters a lot, weaker characters can't be anchors since the idea is to let them make the comeback by themselves without anyone's help, so no assist to mix or to help in neutral, no assist to be safe or to damage, normally no spark or mix with assist, you need a character that does it all if you want an anchor, while a point can get amazing stuff with assist but solo he struggles a lot more
I have 137 hours in this game and it's my first fighting game. Jiren has been on my main team for a while now and I love his combos; I actually found my first somewhat optimal TOD with him (2L, 2 bar, corner start; SSJku and Baseku assists). I thought getting into advanced stuff with Jiren was gonna be really hard for someone like me and I was struggling with the lack of mix. I'm usually really prideful about figuring shit out myself and was hesitant to look up a guide, since I know the discovery process is like the most fun part about fighting games.
I was just about to drop him to try other characters, but I saw this in my recommended, clicked it, and as I was watching, I just immediately fell back in love this character. I mean, you can SAFELY COUNTER AFTER 236S ON BLOCK WTF!? To think I would've never realized that even after finding effectively the same math working out with UI's 236L > 214H on block. I didn't realize the semi-loops with j2S in the corner were auto-timed with mashing just like the DBS Broly 2L links I loved so much. There's so much shit that's so cool just to do after discovering it. I'm okay with this. This seems really fun, even without the discovery.
THANK YOU SO MUCH for making this guide. The slow motion (exactly when it's appropriate) and explanations are so helpful and make this stuff so much more approachable. The edits and the progressing costume changes just made this that much more of a joy to watch. You, sir, have definitely earned a sub this day. 👏👍
P.S. I also appreciate the positive attitude about the 214S nerf. I was kinda beat up about it because I loved "TRY SOMETHING" so much, but you just helped me appreciate that there's so much more to love about this character.
Man I'd suggest picking up like maybe hit or someone like that cuz hit and jiren work really well together

I think using 2L after crossup JM makes it a true combo even if the second hit whiffs or doesn’t come out, so his cross up game is technically still pretty decent.

You only need to use your double jump when it says jc in the annotations. jc stands for jump cancel.

@Lucas Soto, I was having the same problem. I was trying to do it against Goku blue and it wasn’t working, but it was working against base Vegeta. Which makes think it has to do with character size and might not be do-able against all characters.
