Today I'm going to show you how to make what I consider to be the best switch puller ever. This puller can remove even the most stubborn mechanical keyboard switches without damaging them, your plate, or yourself. No more cracked and/or flung switches*. No more awkward death grips. Just quick and easy switch removal.
*If you have a set of particularly brittle switches (looking at you Huano reds with a white base) you will have a chance of damaging the switch, but it will be lower than if you used one of the other pullers shown in this video.

Thanks for this video! I made one just like yours, with your suggestion, and it works way better than the puller that came with my keyboard that is hard to use, and has wrecked a couple switches already!

How well does it work? That's one of the things I looked at when playing around with this project, but it didn't quite work for switches. Caps are a different story though...

Definitely giving this a try while replacing all the gaterons in my TH98 with Kailh Box Browns. Already managed to semi-mangle a few gateron housings with the included tool.

Good luck. 👍 I still use this as my main puller, despite having picked up the Gateron puller for a video I'm working on.

Okay so this is a very good idea, im very tempted to try this for fun mostly, it seems these pliers are cosmetic ones designed to pluck eyebrows, so cheap ones should be fairly easy to find when knowing what to look for and where. Off to the makeup section in H&M hahah
I dont actually need a new one though, because like you I dont like the functionality of the purpose made ones in the keyboard industry, but instead of making my own I just went into my local hardware store and got a pair of those pliers designed to take out plastic clips in car interiors. They basically already have this exact shape, mine fit a switch perfectly but it wouldnt be much effort to grind it to size, and it already has a grip like you talk about, and my personal favorite; they are spring loaded which is sooo handy when changing grips and such. I think I paid about 8-10 bucks for mine, so more expensive by a large margin I guess, but still MUCH better and half the price of an actual branded switch puller

I thought about trying some of those push pin pliers, but I couldn't find any that looked like they would fit in tight bezels.

More great stuff, thanks for the how-to. Why do you start with the first bend at the tip instead of the middle? Did you try, but have problems with the middle trying to bend when you did the tip?
(Also, jokingly, tweezers aren't from Five Below?)

I did try the middle bend first on testing, but it turns out that bend is basically the point of no return. Once you do that it will keep flexing at that point when you try to bend the tip, so you won't have the leverage needed to bend the tip easily.
Also, you know I checked Five Below multiple times for scissor handled tweezers. 🤣 It's surprisingly difficult to find anything other than the Revlon tweezers I mentioned in any store in my area, and those won't work for this.

Thought that may have been the case, with the middle point continuing with bending, but wanted to be sure.
