    I like how you give samples of different sounds, eg switches, key cap shapes. I actually thought the PBT space bar had the prettiest clink sound. I never knew key cap profile changes sound. I would like to hear more about sound differences, as I'm looking for my ideal sound and how to make it

    My whole tongue just melted lol. I'm getting back to this hobby after almost 7 YEARS since I first getting into the mkb hobb. Back then, hotswaps weren't as common and we had to practice soldering and desoldering lol. RIP to many sacrificial boards. This inspired me more to build a custom board!

    Very timely YT recommendation - Watching this video whilst replacing the keycaps on my keeb Mountain Everest modded with sandwiched foam, Poron switch & plate pads. Still on the U4Ts that I lubed since well over a year ago.
    Now I'm wondering if I should blutak my SA keycaps to get more thock. 😁

    Try spring swapping the bigger keys? I think the difference in sound could be attributed to the heavier weight, and a heavier spring may counteract nicely.

    • @LocallsYT
      @LocallsYT 4 місяці тому +9

      This may seem like a reasonable conclusion but its only because of 99% of youtubers have given the wrong idea basically. The only reason it seems like this is because of the heavy mods everyone does.
      But realistically what makes the “thock”, the low pitched noise when keys are pressed is due to there being a lot of density absorbing the sound.
      Depending on metal of choice, this can be high pitched or low and thock. But mainly if the keyboard has foam or other fillers in the right areas. Like pcb, plate, case, etc. then it will make it sound low pitched.
      Just as seen with the comparisons with keycaps.
      A heavier material keycap, such as ceramic will produce a lower pitched noise because its absorbing more of the higher frequencies. Comparatively, the more lightweight plastics and thin keycaps will produce a very high pitched noise.

    I had been a user of Keychron K2 v2 with Gateron Yellow switches and recently upgraded to Keychron V1 Max with Gateron G Pro 3.0 Yellow switches, I like "silent & thocky" and linier switches. As the previous one I have modded the V1 Max and really liking it a lot, for the price I paid. Also ordered Cherry PBT Doule-Shot Dark Blue/Black keycaps set (scomes with Xinmeng A66 keyboards). My next keyboard definitely will be the one with mechanical switches, maybe in a year or two. Otherwise, my beloved keyboard typing experience has been those with ThinkPad notebooks (typing and productivity, not gaming of course).

    If you try this challenge again, you should try Durock ice king switches. I was doing some research to find the best thocky switches that I could get and they were the conclusion. Plus they have south facing LED diffusers. Honestly they're great and have seriously upgraded the sound of my RK M75, along with different keycaps but tbh they're very similar to the original keycaps.

    For a version 2, I'm curious if using the zoom65 v1 would work well, with SA or OSA keycaps. People are also sleeping on the vertex V1 switches, cuz they've been the deepest sounding keycaps I've ever used before and are very affordable.

    Mmmmm the thock sound feels like two dens jade marbles clashing together but without the higher end of the frequencies.
    On another note, do you or does anyone have any recommendations for someone who wants a fullsize keyboard (96% works too) with a knob/scrollwheel to change volume and is usable with nordic layout key such as Å Ä Ö. I would also prefer a wired keyboard but I'm open to hybrid connection as well. And ofc I would like to be able to make the keyboard thocking like the one in the video. Currently using a corsair K75 (I think) with MX silent switches which fits all of my criteria. But I'm starting to feel that I wanna know more about keyboards.
    Oh and for budget, preferably under 150$
