LOL I'm glad you're enjoying my van! I take it out and scare the crap out of myself whenever I can! First Flight was 17 years ago and I never get tired of it. I built everything myself, including the transfer case and rear axle. It only makes about 100 pounds of thrust, most of the energy is absorbed by the power turbine. If you removed the power turbine and replaced it with a properly sized nozzle, it would only make about 400 pounds of thrust. It's not that big of a jet engine, and the power turbine is the key to it's performance. And another interesting point is the afterburner actually slows it down as the temperature drop across the power turbine is less. The afterburner is just for show and it's very important. The LED's add up to 600 watts so far. I love seeing it put a smile on everyone's face.
Well done. Cool build. I'd love a go myself but I'm not sure how I would react to the uncontrolled acceleration, I'd probably panic and press, pull, switch, brake all the wrong things.
I have thought and thought and thought... How does the rear tires move solely off of the jet engine? It's not connected to the drive shaft... I don't get it... Do you care to fill me in?
Got to love those adrenaline giggles. You know she is having fun when you hear that laugh. Had Kyle sweating bullets. Rocket powered salt flat car next? Hit that 300 club maybe?
Turboshaft engine exhaust "thrust" is a by-product of driving the shaft. The hot section has more rows of blades to capture the power to turn the propeller or rotor. Therefore there's less exhaust power wasted out the back end. Turbojet engines are designed to produce maximum exhaust thrust. With the minimum power being captured by the turbine in order to drive the compressor stage, the power is fired out the exhaust.
The turbines with the output shafts are usually old helicopter engines. These are purchased after the engine is houred out for aviation use. Common use is Off Shore power boats and Marathon River racing Jetboats. So no thrust numbers.
My jaw has been on the floor for at least 85% of this video! This is one sick machine, Emelia, you crushed it driving that plane for the first time, sick video 🤘🏾🔥🔥🔥🔥

@EmeliaHartford watching the pure excitement and joy on your face is super contagious and had me cheesing from ear to ear, I definitely needed that. Thank you!
I love those 3rd Gen Chrysler vans. They were the best. Nothing before them could beat them, and nothing after them could beat them. They were perfection. They were the peak.

Emelia Mcfly 🪽 Emelia is gonna end up in 1985 launching that van with Doc. Terrifying awesome! 👍🏻 I'm voting for a reboot with Emelia as Marty's character!
In general, it would be expected that total output shaft power of a turboprop engine will be about 1/3 of total shaft power. Almost all of the other 2/3 shaft power is consumed in turning compressor blades. Exhaust thrust is expected to be only 2% to 3%. They are definitely not designed to produce thrust.
Yeah, that's what I thought. We don't measure HP or KW produced by the exhaust of an internal combustion engine either, but it's clearly enough to spin a turbocharger, so has some power there! It's merely the byproduct of the engine itself.
Emilia is the most fun person to be around 🙂 A jet-engined car can't be a good idea, but what the heck, just fire the thing up. Emilia wanted to push the balls to the wall and the guy noped out of that idea 🙂. Emilia is fearless. I envy all the people who know her.
Emelia Hartford Awesome Video I think it's absolutey insane that you got to Drive that Absolutely insane Jet powered Mini Van and I think it's pretty cool that it can shoot huge flames
Thats so bad ass Emilia, back in my army days, id watch fighter jets down the run ways, they were so loud ,fast, and intimidating just watching, never mind driving/flying a dam mini van!!
this EP doesn't disappoint! Other than her throwing the stick with the marshmallow because the flame was too big.. As a fellow Hoosier I didn't think you'd be afraid of a bonfire lol. This is like when a guy from the air force gets a divorce and gets the minivan in the divorce and decides to do this to it.. lol..
@@KJRob30 haha that was priceless. I remember going to a rock Kiss concert back in the late 80's and when they shot off the flames I did the same thing because my whole face got very hot really fast.
Hilariously scary, all I gotta say. That treeline seemed to be flying by pretty quickly when you did that "pull" near the end of the vid. LEGIT Flame thrower from hell, hahaha! Fantastic video Emelia, thank you for this one ! Smiles ear to ear all the way through!
