2023 Genesis GV60 Vs. 2022 BMW i4 M50 - Battle Of The Luxury EV’s - Redline: Comparison
Вставка
- Опубліковано 21 лип 2022
- The luxury electric vehicle segment continues to grow and the latest additions come from Genesis and BMW, with the 2023 #GenesisGV60 and 2022 #BMWi4. The new #i4M50 is built off the 4-series Gran Coupe platform; while the #GV60 is the luxury version of the hugely impressive E-GMP platform that also underpins the Hyundai Ioniq5 and Kia EV6. Both vehicles offer up similar performance and range and cost around the same price. But which one is actually better?

Yup, we compare an “SUV” to a sedan with a hatch. Both cars offer roughly 230ish miles of range, around 500ish HP, and the kind of luxury and build quality that Tesla’s dream of. Which one would you pick? There really isn’t a wrong answer.
Portland, JAMAICA in the Building !!!!!
I have an i4 M50 on order already and I'm happy with my choice. There are still 2 big things that kept me form the Genesis. 1) the range of the i4 M50 with 19" tires far exceeds that of the GV60, 270mi vs 235mi, 2) I've not heard good things about the Genesis service from multiple people.
Hey bro. Are you gay?
@@Pawz2142 have fun paying a subscription for heated seats
@@satl3161 Really? How ridiculous it is...
Both beautiful cars but I would take the GV60
yeah if your a high school graduate.
@@wazgoodjj I am 46 Company CEO who has Tesla X And S, I will choose GV60
@@wazgoodjj so you're saying high school dropout would choose the BMW?
I'm 50 and work in property and would pick the GV60, struck me as a very odd comment about age and choice.
yeah, the front whell drive burnout immediately makes me get one, there it is, a car that can do a burnout and its an ev, theres that box ticked
I'm feeling the Genesis. Sadly we are just developing our charging facilities here in Jamaica 🇯🇲
Genisis for me. Less money, more range, faster charging, more inside room, great technology, better visibility, all in all, a better road tripper.
I totally agree with you, mate. While I do prefer the aggressive look of the Bimmer to the GV60, I agree that (like you said) the GV has more range, faster charging, more room, and it's tech looks like a step up from what the i4 is offering. I will say that I wish the GV60 had a more performance minded set of tires. From what I hear and read those Michs are designed for range and lack some of the stickiness you need when whipping the curves. That boost button looks like a ton of fun and the drift mode, while I would honestly be too scared to use it, is a fun option for those a little more daring than I am.
@@raiboy79 I guess you can always change the tires to what you prefer, but yes, more money,. hi hi
i4 did drive better and when I think about my kids, makes me want to choose gv60
@@raiboy79 Hopefully they'll release a GT version of the GV60 like the EV6
@@raiboy79 remember a lot of the automotive journalist are sensationalising the GV60 boost performance by turning off the ESC which would otherwise keep things in check. Does look fun and all that tyre smoke from disabling ESC does look dramatic.
Gv60 for me.
more space, quieter more luxurious .
more luxurious? where? It's just a fancy KIa
@@wazgoodjj It literally has better materials. And real mechanical buttons! Oh dear god! If I see one more completely touch based interface in a new car I'm going to lose my mind.
As much as I want to love the BMW (and German cars in general), I can’t. I’d take the Genesis. Though if it were my money, I’d save the money and get the Ioniq5 or the EV6 RWD - same car but lighter and with more range.
You are very smart!! You read my mind lol. With one exception for me I would get the AWD cause I live in the mountains.
who is that pretty white lady in your pic?
@@Soul_Flow_ Singer-songwriter Anna Nalick.
Don't listen to review hype. The Ioniq and EV6 have really, really cheap interiors. Very low quality. The BMW and Genesis are miles nicer.
GV60 is way better for the extra 14k. So much cheap plastic in the Hyundai and the Kia vs the genisis.
The genesis for the extra room, dedicated platform, quickest charging of any car, weighs a lot less.
Missed a very huge point, charging speed. The Genesis blows the BMW out of the water. And for an EV, should be one of the top things you want.
Agreed, huge advantage and the biggest concern for most people transitioning from ICE
I’ve used a charging station once driving an EV for three years. Charge at home on 220v to 80% and that’s plenty even for decently long day trips
@@Del_987 Not everyone has a convenient home plug in platform nor do they have a house to do it even more so, especially nowadays.
out of the water, WTF? I've seen 2 GV60's parked and let me tell you the BMW is still king. The GV60 is cute and quirky but it looks like a caricature.
@@wazgoodjj He was talking about the charging speed.
Nice comparison review! Both cars are great, but for me, genesis GV60 won.
Fast charging and External/Internal power plug for outdoor camping sold me.
I love take the Genesis for better daily driving in comfort.
These might be the 2 most unique and interesting EV's on the market! Genesis/Hyundai is definitely the EV leader in the entire industry.
Genesis/Hyundai is doing good but not even close as the leader of the EV industry… You really need to see what China is building right now. Genesis/Hyundai couldn’t even enter the Chinese EV market since their cars are beaten in every aspect - tech, range, interior, speed, and most importantly, price
@michaelliu465
Nobody wants to buy Chinese products cars worldwide except inside China also now Chinese car manufacturers are bankruptcy right now
I'm generally a BMW fan (tho less now than I was say, 5+ years ago) and have to say, I think the Genesis has the BMW beat in all of the major areas that matter to me. The engineers at Hyundai simply "get it". Innovative, useful and functional...not to mention styling, interesting and very cool. Hoping to trade in my vehicle for the Genesis GV70 Electric SUV if I can get my hands on one next year, when it should reach North American shores..
Hello, ! 🌟Thanks for watching::You have been shortlisted for the ongoing secret giveaway contact address above on telegram, ❤️💯🏆, Thank you!
The Genesis Gv60 simply gives you more for less. The amount of tech/standard features makes it a much better car. That interior is more luxurious than in the BMW. The AC controls as well as face/eye recognition are a neat touch. Not to mention the self parking. Faster charging in the Genesis and weighing less while being more practical.
The amount of tech/standard with no apple car play?!
@@isvandi2 It has Apple Car play... it's just not WIRELESS. You have to plug your phone in. Whoopdeedoo.
Starting MSRP is 68k for both of them. The BMW tops out at 74k with all of the options on it except the bigger wheels. Not much of a difference.
@@JustMe99999 Damn, reading the price you mention hurts my gearhead heart. Is that 74000 you mention the American price in dollars? A fully optioned i4 M50 without the bigger wheels here in Western-Europe, is just over €100000 or just over $110000 US. That is with truly all option boxes ticked though. MSRP base price before options is around €80000 or around $90000 US.That is a staggering difference, even with the price increases since your comment. Crazy that a German car is so incredibly much more expensive here, with Germany almost literally at my doorstep, than it is in the US. Same goes for my car, also from Germany and about $20000 cheaper in the US with the same options. Ugh, I'd rather not think about it further
Gv60 looks more luxurious inside
And isn’t being recalled for battery fires.
??? if you say so. The GV60 is just a fancy Kia. I'll stick with the BMW.

Genesis any day of the week, just the fact it has a dedicated EV platftform puts it ahead of the bmw

The BMW i4 is basically a retrofitted ICE Car. I pick the GV60 given the more efficient use of space and more interesting interior. I'm not in love with the exterior of the GV60 though...I find the two tone exterior odd.
Then you should wait for the electrified gv70
I really like 👍 genesis I just 🤞 wish sunroof actually opened but it definitely has all of great features adaptive cruz park ,ect...and seating looks great
The GV60 actually has a drift mode.
Thank you for the comparison! I am actually shopping between these two cars! i4 40 vs GV60 advance. I think ill go with gv60. Wish if u mentioned V2L or the 110v 15amp household receptacle in gv60.

Hyundai engineered the platform for the future. Years later, I wouldnt be too surprised if there were something better but this is the best platform at the moment. Only thing that can keep up is the most expensive ev platforms like the porsche.
I’m leaning toward the Genesis too. Any problems getting one?
This is not an internal combustion engine vehicle. I would definitely buy the Genesis gv60.
Hello, ! 🌟Thanks for watching::You have been shortlisted for the ongoing secret giveaway contact address above on telegram, ❤️💯🏆, Thank you!
i saw the gv60 on the road here in my town in korea few days ago in a navy blue color, i was astonished on how good it looks. If i were on my budget i would take the gv60 all day if i were to buy any electric vehicle! Take my money genesis!
BMW? It’ll be in the shop far more and cost so much more in repairs and service! No way!
It’s very Tate to see reviews of two vehicles sitting side by side. I like that sure makes comparisons a lot easier. While I like the color of the interior on the BMW I’ve had a light interior car and keeping it clean, and white, is difficult. Comparing these two vehicles I would hot give the nod to the Genesis. Interiors mean a lot to me and they can be the largest factor in my decision and while I was surprised at the elegance of the BMW the Genesis had the best when you realize the this was designed to be an EV. Again, you give the best reviews in my book. Always classy and up front comparisons. Great job, you’re the best in my book.
Bmw would look crazy and killer with their proper traditional grill
Genesis, woah what a car!
The comparison is great, but like others have mentioned you have missed some important points.
1. Charging speed
2. V2L on Genesis
3. Genesis service quality
4. Actual cost of the BMW compared to the GV60 taking into account ALL features. Especially since BMW have started charging subscription for heated seats here in Europe.
But all in all a nice video to watch.
Great review of both cars, the Genesis would be my choice 👍 front of the BMW is overwhelming
Even though the Genesis is a better car from nearly every practical point of view and price he chooses the BMW because he likes the blue and white roundel on the hood 😂
That keyfob is CLASS on the Genny. LUVS IT
Not sure why most auto reviewers don’t know why Hyundai/Kia/Genesis (HKG) cars do not offer wireless Apple/Android connection with larger screens (because they do with smaller screens). It’s nothing to do with technical shortcomings. With larger screens, HKG opted to install their own maps instead of defaulting to 3rd party maps, which would be the case if you connect wirelessly. Due to this reason and the related licensing issues, HKG can only provide wired connection when the screen is above certain size. I wish auto reviewers would note this rather than just stating there is no wireless connection.
always great review, hope to see BMW ix1 vs Genesis EV60 soon....Thanks in advance.
BMW performance and look inside and out all day long. However if were spending my own money I’d go with the Genesis for some reason…
Since the BMW doesn't come with an electric tilt telescopic wheel I'm not interested. Also, Genesis looks better
But it does have wireless Apple Car Play. That's a huge win for me. Wires make it look cheap
@@wazgoodjj So the BMW is better than the Genesis because you need to hide wires... Dude, ur so lame

Loved this review! Different cars but variety is a great thing! So frustrating that the charging network in my state isn't nearly as good as the cars I could buy. Hopefully 2024?
Amazingly, I was faced with the exact choice between these two vehicles. And, what can I say: I am so happy to have chosen the Genesis. Thanks for the great video and best regards from Germany! Michael
I could not believe this I am saying that but this Genesis im white colour has much better exterior design than BMW! It is wider and higher and looks more impressive in general and more practical for commute usage.
Genesis by far
I wonder which of these cars feels more planted for canyon carving? I'm cross shopping i4 eDrive40 vs. GV60 Advanced. I have test driven the i4, but can't feasibly test drive a GV60 since I'm in Kansas and it's only sold in 4 coastal states.
I ran into the same issue configuring an x3 M40i. Since you get to speak with these reps sometimes can you ask why you can only get ventilated seats with the black interior? Does the dye not hold up to cool temps? 🧐
Love comparison tests 🥰🥰
Watching now....7:20 very interesting how the B pillars don't open with the door they're integrated into the door frame kinda cool
Is it possible for us to get more of these comparison vehicles like this? maybe of old and new vehicles?
Good JOB! It is understandable that when a sports sedan is the goal, GENESIS falls out of comparison. However, there is no doubt that a far better option. More space, burnouts, better storage, better tech, really cool and really modern seats, automatic beautiful ball,
awesome wheels, and a new cool brand with awesome quality... this is a no-braner. GENESIS IS A CLEAR WINNER.
GV60 has secret drift mode here in Korea. I wonder it goes to your country too. Too sad if there was one and you forgot to mention it.

As you start to review/compare more EVs, it would be super helpful if you could also test the charging curve of the vehicles. Theoretical max charging speeds are good to know, but in real world use does the car hit that speed and for long throughout the charging process? For example, the BMW could have a lower max charging speed, but maybe it holds that rate longer than the GV60. Idk if that's true, just an example.
The Fastned Charging app shows the charging curve for particular EVs which is interesting and informative.
Something looks off on the BMW front, like they just glued the BMW grille on top of some other design like an afterthought.
I always like it when Redline Reviews make awesome and fun videos like this :)
My last car was a BMW plugin hybrid and I wanted the i4. But in Australia the i4 M50 is $25k more than the GV60 Performance. So, while I love BMW, I bought the Genesis and I love it!
Hello, ! 👋🎊Thanks for watching::You have been shortlisted for the ongoing secret giveaway🎁🎁 contact address above on telegram, ❤️💯🏆, Thank you!
Thank you for this comparison video - I would definitely be cross-shopping these two models if I was in the market right now. In the future, when there are more EV options, such a comparison might not make sense but today it's exactly what I wanted to see.
I usually love the design language of Genesis, but I’m sad to say, I don’t like the GV60.
Edit: I will say though, that interior is beautiful.
I have a G70 and absolutely love this car. I also had a 2015 Hyundai Genesis which was hard to get rid of. The G80 was a bit out of my price range for the 3.3 which I really wanted because I struggled getting in the much smaller G70 after having such a big car for many years. I do love my G70, this thing is crazy fun and plenty fast. But I recently was dropped off a 2.5 G80 as they picked up my car for routine maintenance. And I have to say, that 4 banger pulled that big car around plenty fast enough. So if I don't go electric in another year and a half, I'm definitely going with the AWD 2.5 G80. Everywhere I go someone comes up to me asking about these cars. I had that G80 3 days and was stopped at least 10 times. People are always checking out my G70
Also have a G70 and I've not been complimented more on a car besides my 300ZX twin turbo. Genesis is killing it. If they ever get proper dealerships going watch out.
Great comparison,,,, still deciding to get the Cadillac lyriq

On every BMW I've owned, the German engineered motors were practically bulletproof. The electronics failed must faster. I'd be really hesitant to look at BMW for an electric car at this point. Beautiful car though.
Those screens on the bmw look more like a afterthought trying to copy Mercedes’ which is 10000000xs better and being doing it better interior for years
They are way nicer then the older Mercedes’ screens. Much higher res and larger + curved which Mercedes’ is not. All BMWs will have those screens when refreshed
I’d probably choose the Genesis over the Bimmer, but kudos to both brands for developing their EV lines very nicely. Also, I don’t mind the lack of wireless CarPlay, as wired always better for audio quality.

@@doomsday9973 I'm a pretty big BMW fan and I'd take a Genesis GV70 over a BMW X3. Congrats on the dumbest comment i've read on UA-cam today..
I will pick that BMW any day. There is a reason people push out $ for BMW, their ability to stay to form even when it's electric. Imagine changing everything about the BMW interior and exterior to look more EV they will instantly lost their customer base. When am done with my M3 I will be looking into this..... familiar but evolved.
you can fsho fit a to go box from Olive garden in that frunk(gv60)
you were biased from the very start. the GV60is a head turner. it is elegant and futuristic. the BMW looks like a typical old BMW.
No it's not. I've seen 2 on the road here in LA and trust me, it's not head turner. The GV70 and G70 are a different story.
@@wazgoodjj agreed. The gv60 is bulbous in real life. The proportions just seem off...the ev6 is the same way. But the ioniq 5 is even nicer in person than in pics.
It’s just an upscale dressed up ionic 5. Yawn
in pictures/videos maybe, but in real life it's not really a head turner, even ICE cars these days are going for the "futuristic" aesthetic so in that sense it's nothing amazing. Not saying it's bad or ugly, to me the headlight/taillights are very nice but the body shape is not appealing(understand that the designers have to really focus on aerodynamics/drag for EV's). As for the i4, it's nothing special either looks wise, if you see it on the road and aren't heavy into cars, you'd just mistake it for any other new 3/4 series. But I have to agree with the reviewer, I thought it looked hideous when i first it in pictures and videos online but in-person the grille for some reason it tolerable, but still not as nice looking as the large grilles on BMW/Audi. Shape-wise, the i4 is much sleeker looking for sure though. Looks great from the side and rear, front would be nice too if not for the weird grille.
Interior-wise i totally agree with you there. Outside of the nice screen on the i4, the rest of the interior looks boring and outdated. GV60 looks very nice and more current
@@nuckv7544 well the i4 is literally just a 4 series with a battery thrown in and the new iDrive 8 screen. The GV60 on the other hand is literally just a dressed up Hyundai ionic 5, even has the exact same screens/infotainment
the GV60 is the better deal.
Correction on i4 ventilated seats... They are available with black or mocha leather, although for 2023, you can't simultaneously get ventilation and adjustable lumbar in any color.
Wie heißt die weiße Außenfarbe des GV60 ??? Altha White?? Danke für den tollen Bericht. 🙂
Genesis for me. BMW stands for Boring Motor Works.
When I was a kid Benz and BMW really were far away from the everyday person car. In 2022 The entire car industry has caught up and to me BMW and Benz don’t have enough unique designs or innovation anymore

One thing about Manually Adjust Steering wheel is actually better Leg room I guess?
I think that both EV’s are good options if you’re shopping for a premium EV. If you want that sports sedan feel and driving experience, the BMW is the one to go and if you want more cabin space and cargo capacity, the genesis might be the one to take. These are the conclusions I’ve made from watching this comparison

I have a 911 turbo for fun, and the GV60 Sport Plus for family duties. If you need something to do it all, the GV60 is hard to beat. Get the right colour (I went for Matt Melbourne Grey), it gets a similar amount of attention as the 911 (which isn’t exactly subtle as it has a Race Exhaust and custom tune to 715bhp), so to be able to do that is some achievement. It definitely errs towards the side of luxury and refinement, and is sooo much more comfortable than the Audi e-tron 55 I had before it (in fact, the Genesis GV60 puts the Audi to absolute shame). Genesis are onto a winner with the GV60! It is a fantastic vehicle!
That's awesome. Well done and great info
This wasn't even close for me. As a prior Tesla Model S owner, and recently testing several different EV's for my new purchase. Hands down the GV60 wins. In my opinion it's MORE fun to drive because it maintains its identity as a luxury vehicle. The interior of the GV60 is only second to those of Mercedes (MAYBE)... I absolutely love that the rear seats recline for a little more comfort for rear seat passengers.... CAMERA'S on the dash showing the blind spots... Calming interior sounds... Surround View Monitor which will actually take pictures around the car... SO much more to love about the Genesis. In fact if someone GAVE me the i4 I would trade it in for a GV60... And that's from an EV enthusiast! 🤷🏾♂️

It is defo the GV60 for me. I think you may just have a bias towards BMW, because it clearly doesn't compare to the GV60. GV60 has a much better interior, better features, smart parking, facial recognition technology, looks better on the outside, has more room. In your own words is more practical than the BMW. So if knowing all this, you would still go for the BMW, then it means you just like the brand. Nothing more, nothing less.
Don't forget that the BMW i4 M50 loaded up like the GV60 Performance is around $10k more and doesn't include free charging for 3 years...
The only consideration should be maximum distance between recharge.
I don’t know why anyone would get the 20” wheels with that range loss
