Crazy think about the 'I Am Error' guy is; he's actually helpful. A different townsperson gives you a hint that leads to him, and you're rewarded for it.
In Castlevania 3, the way to kill Dracula's first form is to watch him. First he raises his arm and 2 fire walls surround you. The second time is when the large fire spike shoots up under you. As he starts raising his hand the second time, that is when you dodge. For his second form, use the cross or axe to destroy all 5 faces. Or use Sypha's fire or ball lightning spells. For the third form, ride the platforms that fly around and attack his eyes with the cross, axe. Sypha's fire or ball lightning or Alucard's balls of destruction.
I notice that in Simon's Quest, it encourages you to go right by making left incredibly hard. It's like in Fallout New Vegas where if you go north, those mutant flies kill you.

I know this may sound stupid, but why didn't you mention the Famicom version of Castlevania 3? It actually has a number of differences in gameplay which makes it the superior version of the game. In that version, whenever you die when fighting Dracula, you start back at the stairway. You start at the beginning when you get a game over though. Plus, the final boss is a bit easier. However, one of the biggest differences is the music... AND IT'S F***ING AWESOME. The Famicom version has a special chip that adds a few more sound channels, making it sound better. I'd rather not talk about every detail, maybe you should check it out sometime... Wait... Did you not mention it because the Famicom version costs a lot?...
DarkKnightTrinity if you watch his transformers episode you'll know he HAS a famicom and if you watch the back to the future revisited episode you'll know he even has a super famicom.
ACTALLY, the NES has this too. however the pins required to make it work were connected to the expansion port in a way that it required something to be plugged in in order for the expansion sound to even work, and the expansion port got completely unused (and that's also why in most cartridges the center pins aren't there at all). i think nintendo thought to make some devices that plugged in the expansion port that enhanced the expansion audio in some way, maybe allowing stereo sound or maybe even a device that you could connect to an equalizer and have a 7.1 sound studio, or maybe even a remixer! or maybe they just thought that with the (unrelased) NES disk system some cartridge games had a disk expansion that contained the expansion sound, bonus levels, extra sidequests, etc... there were almost infinite possibilities, but the N00B$ at nintendo butchered them all. infact, if you have a PowerPack and an ENIO (Extended NES I/O, which can be plugged in the expansion port and you could connect cool things on it like famicom peripherals [famicom disk system not included since it requires some adress lines that don't come out of the ENIO], USB [to plug in a keyboard, in case you don't have a famicom keyboard], ethernet [i don't know why they put ethernet on it... i guess some programmers still want to put their indie games on cartridges, and said games can use internet to do stuff]), you plug in the ENIO and put your Akumajou Densetsu ROM in the SD you can actually hear the expansion sound. because the ENIO has those 2 resistors, THOSE RESISTORS are what makes expansion sound on NES possible.
I recently played it and, while it is often quite cryptic, it's not as bad as it's made out to be. Dracula could've been more difficult and the game might've been improved with a more linear style instead of constantly going back and forth, BUT, it's just not that bad.
Really comes down to what games you're looking at and playing. Most of the big titled games are super easy. Lesser known titles seem to be challenging in general. Or at least that's how I experience it.
That's what happens when you stop gatekeeping. Normies are like the fucking Borg, you can't reason with them, your only chance is to fight them tooth and nail to the bitter end.

I wouldn't mind seeing Castlevania 3 on James and Mike Mondays.
I feel like his reactions to these videogames are so relatable, which is why I enjoy his content so very much.
OMG that Grim Reaper boss lol, don't even have to kill him lol.
Crazy think about the 'I Am Error' guy is; he's actually helpful. A different townsperson gives you a hint that leads to him, and you're rewarded for it.
8:38 that's what I like the most about the old AVGN. He swears, but he is also calm. Nowadays, he screams a lot.
I could only beat them with the axe
"Helpme" the best cheat code.
I notice that in Simon's Quest, it encourages you to go right by making left incredibly hard. It's like in Fallout New Vegas where if you go north, those mutant flies kill you.
Yes, the game expects you to have the laurels so you can walk through the swamp to the left, or level up. The rib helps alot at that point too.
9:16 "When you're on the stairs, your ass is fucked."
Been there before.
Same here.
Sometimes you just need to have a AVGN marathon night ! Tonight's the night boom !
Yep. I’m doing the same thing as you 5 years later lol.
Same, really getting into this stuff, I feel old but it's awesome to watch

AVGN: "I'm gonna do this legit, where is that extra lives code?" LOL
"I'm gonna do this legit...now where's that extra life code?"
F'n hilarious!
8:53 That's what you would least expect to be an obstacle.
4:08 should be “leave me alone, I’m busy"
when Konami used to make games.
lol
Yep they are hard games and thats why the Konami code was invented and Game Genie 😉

Death:"Prepare to die Belmo- Hey where the hell ya goin?!!"
Yeah... about 40 years ago!
+David Nash their company must be full of dust 😁 and skeleton
12:36 I always forgot about that part. James had a lot of fun in the making of this videos. :D
The edits and acting like an actual gamer are what made AVGN so great.
"That was 5 years ago"
Now its been 2 decades..
If I remember correctly, the original Japanese Simon's Quest had much better information in the dialogue boxes.
The Japanese version also had the VRC6 sound chip which makes it superior over the western version.
7:56 It also shows in the 2005 special The Batman vs Dracula.
3:33 “Don’t look into the Death Star, or you will Die.” What?!?
Apparently it's supposed to be a reference to Fist of the North Star anime/manga series, some light that shines brightly before a character dies.
The way he says "Ugh this game is poopy." is legendary.
I still play Simon;s Quest to this day! I love that game. I remember playing it when it came out in the late 80's/early 90's
So many memories of this series.
Can’t believe it’s been 13 years.
The AVGN's 20th anniversary is less than 4 days away now! 🤓
7:00 Shortcut to Castlevania III
10:47: "Help me. That's it. You spell Helpme, isn't that the most appropriate password you ever heard?"
In the PC version of Bart vs. the Space Mutants, the copy protection screen shows the head of Bart Simpson. There's a cheat to bypass this screen: type I NEED HELP SO LET ME SKIP THE HEADS.....
1: Dracula is a decent fight
2: Dracula's way too easy
3: Dracula's Way too hard
well:
1. dracula resurrected
2. dracula weakened after beated not long ago
3. dracula in full glory
This reminded me that I still haven't finished my playthrough of Castlevania games, I need to get back on that.
You just gotta watch these every October, this series is perfect for Halloween. I love it
Lol very true. The last few weeks I been watching his Halloween episodes

...SIMON FELL THROUGH THE WATER AND DIED BECAUSE OF NOTHING.
6:17 My exact reaction to IGN's Pokemon review
I just realized I played Castlevania II as a child, I had no idea what to do or where to go, but at the time it seemed to be a really cool game to me.
Everyone while playing Cuphead: (9:28)
DONT LOOK INTO THE DEATH STAR, OR YOU'LL DIE
Yeah Luke, don't look into the death star, or it will shoot the laser beam to you, so you will die.
JUAN SANTAMARIA The what? *looks at Death Star* AHHH!!!
George:Hey Fred I bet you don't have the guts to look at death star!!
Fred: Ha I did it lookd at the death star and only lost 1 eyeball.
YOU, FUKING GENIUS! xD
I think the programmers were actually referring to "The Fist of the North Star" when they wrote that guy's quote.
He clearly states these videos are about his childhood experiences. I doubt he ever saw Famicom as a kid.
true...
MarioKart7z Moot point; owning a famicom now does not mean he had one when he was a child.
I love Simon's Quest. That is all....
same
I recently played it and, while it is often quite cryptic, it's not as bad as it's made out to be. Dracula could've been more difficult and the game might've been improved with a more linear style instead of constantly going back and forth, BUT, it's just not that bad.
I liked Simon's Quest, but I didn't love it. Just wished the aspects were like SotN. Perhaps a remaster is needed?
I love that game too, I think when the Nerd is complaining about games I like just make it better :P
I love Zelda 2.
Remember, Simons flesh was literally rotting in this game due to the curse
I'd still hit that
Words can't express how endearing James is during that closing outtake.
Probably the best thing that came from the Castlevania games was the music.
and today is the opposite.... the games nowadays are more easy.
Really comes down to what games you're looking at and playing.
Most of the big titled games are super easy.
Lesser known titles seem to be challenging in general.
Or at least that's how I experience it.
Yeah tell that to the fucking dark souls developers
masako x Then I guess we'll have to blame terrible play testers.
I want challenging games, not walk in the park games.
That's what happens when you stop gatekeeping.
Normies are like the fucking Borg, you can't reason with them, your only chance is to fight them tooth and nail to the bitter end.
3:29 - "Don't look into the Death Star, or you will die"
*Ben Kenobi felt that*
2019 and this never gets old.
My Halloween tradition continues! Here i am a year later! Thank's james!
I wish that I could give these four Castlevania videos a million thumbs up each!! 🙏💓
4:54: "There's another spot where you have to go into a cemetery and drop a piece of garlic, so you can get a silver knife. Who is this person in a robe who waits in a cemetery for someone to come by and drop garlic?"
3:24: "Rumor has it, the ferry-man at dead river loves garlic"
Thinking, please
Simon's quest is one of the best games I ever played as a kid. I am now 44 and married with children. Simon's quest and Faxanadu will always be in my memories.
3:52 the funniest moment in Nerd history
"That was five years ago"
Now that was 17 years ago
His episodes are so good that you come back after many years to watch them again! 👍🏼 thank you AVGN
