Good numbers and a beautiful TA! I have several fourth gen Firebirds and absolutely love them.

Obvious next question: why would you not gap the rings for boost on a built motor that has both a supercharger and nitrous? I'm assuming it's built anyway since you mentioned the forged crank; was it originally built to be NA and plans changed?

@@nowayjose596 Right?? That is the obvious question. I bought that crate motor a few years back and the plan was for it to be NA, then time went on and I wanted more power so I bought nitrous and figured I would just leave it at 100 shot or 150 shot and I bought the max5 and colder plugs and the nitrous express direct port pre-plumbed FAST intake and everything to keep it as safe as possible. Then once I had a little bit more power from the nitrous, you know how it goes and I got a good deal on a used D1SC Pro charger and threw that on there and then started only using the nitrous as a scramble button. But yeah, the original plan was to have it be NA and then years went by and then it grew from there at which point I figured if it blows it blows, and I’ll either buy another one built for boost or get a brawler short block from Texas speed and use the heads from the crate motor or something along those lines and build the motor in the background as a back up or for another car.

@@Fbodygarage I definitely understand how that goes. I obviously don't know what your level of wrenching ability is, but if you're able to pull the engine yourself I think it would be highly advisable to check/adjust that ring gap. If this was a junkyard 5.3, sure, chance it and let it eat, but you've definitely got more money in it than that and it'd be a shame to grenade it on something so simple (albeit not "easy") to correct. Most of the gaskets are reusable (aside from things like head bolts and head gaskets) and you don't really need any specialized tools to tear it down and reassemble it, plus there is a plethora of information online detailing exactly how to do it. Obviously the economics change if you have to pay someone else to do it, but I think even assuming the heads will be reusable after the damage a popped ringland is capable of producing is more on the "hoping" end of the scale.
I'm sure I'm not telling you anything you don't already know, but just my 2 cents. Good luck with it either way.
