I have been informed that the K-On clip is intentionally meant to be inaccurate. Kinda funny that it's still better than about half of the animated drumming scenes I've reviewed so far.
Just one random thing. I hate to be this guy. When you're talking into the mic, it's coming through really strong on the left side. It might just be me, but when I'm using headphones it really throws me off.
Regarding that K-ON! section. They're not actually playing their instruments in that scene. They're pretending to play while that song is playing from a radio somewhere in that room. As much as I'm happy that this anime got featured here, I'm a bit disappointed that Eric chose this scene.
I don't blame him, it's pretty much the only scene you can find easily on UA-cam. I suspect the other musical performances would get a copyright match right away.
It actually made me really disappointed that one of my favourite shows got such a low rating just because of the performance choice Other scenes are animated with a lot of a lot of care, and accuracy Ritsu made me want to play drums!!!
The thing about most of these is that the animators may be told "there will be a music segment here, it will be at about this bpm, in this genre" without actually hearing the music, so they have no idea what they're animating to until it's too late to make any changes.
I used to do motion capture! I can say that crossing your arms between a snare and hi hat would certainly cause some errors in a mocap system that wasn't set up specifically for drumming. Gotta get good coverage on all markers on your arms and body
#1: WWAP should have been played with rulers for tonal difference. #2: Invisible bass drum pedal #3: Parts of this WWAP sounded better than original #4: Would have been easy to animate correctly #5: Would have been easy to animate correctly
3:35 i think this applies to musicians in general. like i saw incredibles 2 in theaters and seeing the trombonists in the end credits move the slide to do a crescendo hurt my soul
What's fun about that clip from K-On is that none of them are actually playing what's sounding, just dramatically imitating a cassette of their club advisor's band
As someone who is in the msm community, seeing shugabush island just appear onscreen was a massive jumpscare. Been loving this series so glad to see you cover something so close to my heart
I was hoping you'd show the more stomp-y segments of Ain't got Rhythm, but I guess that's outside of the scope of this series. Props for pulling the Hitman scene, it's always hilarious how 47 has so many random talents and the accuracy (or mostly-accurate) of the scene really sells it.
the k-on scene that you chose for this video was the least accurate in the series by a long shot and there's actually a good reason in-universe for this. i'm not sure if you watched the entire scene or just the performance but the punchline to that entire scene was that the performance shown was entirely fake and they were playing along to a track because they wanted to "change things up" and act as a much edgier band than they actually are, complete with squabbling over incredibly minor, petty things and talks about "breaking up the band over creative differences" (much to the audience's, and fifth member of the band's, initial horror). the rest of the show's drumming is a lot more accurate because, well, for the other scenes, the drummer's actually playing and not pretending to be an overly-flashy metal drummer with a bunch of unnecessary big hits; and quite possibly, to an astute drummer's eye, the amount of inaccuracy in this scene compared to the rest kinda foreshadows that something's off about the entire scene before their uncharacteristic fighting even starts and much before the fifth member finds the boombox that was actually playing the music. outside of that, great video! i love this series and i'm happy to see that k-on did make the cut; getting a c for their most stylistically inaccurate performance is still pretty darn good and seeing the waap and wissl were hilarious.
Speaking of games, how accurate is the drummer in the Guitar Hero/Rock Band games? That might need a video of it's own because there's a lot of those games and I'm sure the animations became better as time went on.
You should do "Gyro Drums" from Animusic 2. We know the animation will be right, but I would like to se you W.I.S.S.L. it just to see if you could replicate the Animusic kit.
Do Camp Lazlo, Sailor Moon, Shimmer and Shine, Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi, Whatever Happened to Robot Jones and Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends for the next one
@@jtheman6369 it's an Android app game (not sure if on iOS) where you unlock monsters, and each one has a short musical phrase they repeat. You then get to organize them in a way to create your own songs. It's all generic stuff, which is why all the vocals are various sounds instead of actual singing.
Here's a good contender for the next episode: Ika Musume Season 1 Episode 7 It comes in at the end of the episode where Squid Girl is shown playing the drums. She makes use of her tentacles as well, so it shows her playing like 10 different parts at the same time. Obviously it's not meant to be realistic, but I thought it would be interesting to see your reaction to it.
Kind of surprised you haven't done Animal from the Muppets yet. I mean, he's one of the most famous fictional drummers out there. And before anyone says "He only does cartoons and video games," I'd like to remind you, Muppet Babies exists, and is a cartoon.
Hitman is stiff bc even though they used motion-capture that doesn't mean they used every frame (bc they still have to convert it to animation). They probably edited every couple frames and the rest got erased or replaced by copy paste. That's why it's so robotic.
This video was great! If you do this again maybe you could try Shellbeat from MSM, I know you already did that game but it would be cool to see if they animated the drums correctly with that monster
Could you do: "Denn wenn et Trömmelche jeht | TiRiLi - Kinderlieder zum Mitsingen" from the kids channel TiRiLi Kinderlieder? It has a German Locke and uses only the "Kleine Trommel" Greetings from Germany
I played My Singing Monsters, and pretty much every Drum Kit monster in that game are unusual compare to real Drum Kits. Either they are a living drum kit (T-Rox for example stomps its feet for a kickbeat and chomps for a snare), their drum kit is impossible to translate (Deedge and Furnoss), or they do have a Drum Kit, but it doesn't look like a traditional one (Shellbeat's drum kit doesn't have a kickbeat but it uses its shell as a kickbeat). Same with every instrumental monsters in general.
With Roger from American dad I'm sure that in the second scene he is just moving his drumstick to stay in rythm and not actually hitting the thing as often as you made it up to be in the Wwap treatment.
I have been informed that the K-On clip is intentionally meant to be inaccurate.

@@jonessperandio Fair point. The only scene I could think of as an alternative is the last part of the season 1's first episode.
that’s soooo much more sense now
Exactly, I have the exact same thoughts on this
The fact that it's still fairly accurate is hilarious to me.
K-On definitely needs a redo with a different scene.
Yea, they were doing essentially lip syncing in that scene, they weren't actually playing
It actually made me really disappointed that one of my favourite shows got such a low rating just because of the performance choice
Other scenes are animated with a lot of a lot of care, and accuracy
Ritsu made me want to play drums!!!
Bro you #$%*, it was miming you idiots
you gotta love an animator who gets the animation at least pretty close. really puts live action movies/shows with obviously fake drummers to shame!!
and once you see it, cant be un-seen
As others are pointing out the K-On clip was the girls miming to a tape of their teacher playing when she was in the same club.
The thing about most of these is that the animators may be told "there will be a music segment here, it will be at about this bpm, in this genre" without actually hearing the music, so they have no idea what they're animating to until it's too late to make any changes.

In #2 you can see the drum center (forgot what its called) responding so i dont think it matters
dont diss shugabeats like that
I'd love to see Ringo drumming in Yellow Submarine rated in this series.
I am now a UA-cam sensation. The fair show in part 2? American Dad - Jimmy crack corn
That K-ON clip is a gag that they were air-playing along a track, not really playing.
I liked the Led Zeppelin part. Kind of genius how it sounded like lemonsong but far enough away to not get copyright problems
Band is called "Liffed Riffs" in the show. It's very tongue in cheek humor. The whole stage is, 70s x a million.
You should make a set of tenors out of different sized snare drums.

'We're engineering the perfect assassin. What do we need?' 'He needs to be able to rock on the drums' 'Perfect.'
My left ear enjoyed the video 👍
To be fair, it was stated that he got his Rhythm back, not that he was good at drums
We all love a good EMC Video
Nice job on the metal WISLL!
Drummer in Hitman looked stiff, because he's an assassin pretending to be a drummer to get closer to his target. It was on purpose.
It’s cool to see My Singing Monsters here!
Disney's "Soul" has to be in the next video
This series is god tier content
You should take a look at "God Knows" from the Haruhi anime.
i love the K-On one cuz they were just doing random shit over a recording as a prank
