I'd love it if an animator on some show, knowing these videos exist, perfectly animated someone in the show playing piano, but animate them playing an entirely different song than what they are supposed to be playing.

The Corpse Bride clip you took as reference is in PAL speed (25 fps, taken from an old European DVD, perhaps). Movies were sped up for that format and that caused that the audio track was always half a tone over where it should be. I checked against the original speed (24 fps) and it sounds exactly how you play it in the "what they actually played" part.

I definitely don't know what the actual creators of Coraline were thinking, but with how much detail and though that went into that movie, I'd imagine it being so off is playing into the facade like nature of the other world. E.g., everything's sounds amazing but when you really look at it, it's actually completely off.

Your Lie in April not only got the piano perfectly right, but also the violin. Which is by far the biggest achievement I’ve ever seen in Animation/Anime
I remember hearing somewhere that they paid *very* special attention to all the instruments in soul, and I think recorded one of the pianists performances and mapped everything to his keystrokes.
Let’s take the time to appreciate that this man went through every single one of these clips, checked which part of the piano it was played in (not to mention that some clips have parts where the place of the hand is not seen properly), then replayed it off by ear. ++Respect

The corpse bride one got me… the lower key transposed version actually sounds better to me than the way it’s actually meant to be played. One sounds a bit more dark and the other has a more uplifted sound, then again I think the song is played in two different keys depending on the point in the movie unless I’m remembering it wrong.
For the Tinkerbell Chopsticks: Tinkerbell steps back on to E and Terrence on to A before they move from D and B to C and C. As well, they move further down/up the scale at the end and you don't. Was I right?
I guess the Corpse Bride’s piano is half key because the piano is in land of the dead. So they wouldn’t bother to tune them correctly and it was broken down. Also, in same movie, I wonder if the skeleton played correct piano in “Die, die we all pass away” song. “Your lie in April” did both Piano and Violin’s animation right. I watched 2set Violins commented on the Violin part before. That anime really something.

Would not be out of place ... it's pretty common for old, pretty used pianos even in the real world. If the tuning blocks are too worn out and the strings too stretched to hold a 440Hz tune, you can just tune them a semitone or 2 lower as long they are to be played solo only. (And not by someone having perfect pitch).
It's kinda crazy how for the Ghost Bride, they animated a piano correctly... IN STOP MOTION. That's just so much extra effort for an animation style that is already one of if not the most difficult to do.
It’s arguably easier to animate piano in stop motion and 3D than 2D..as you have the scale there, just move the parts to the right keys 😅 in 2D you have to draw every frame and scale can get wonky
The chopsticks song 3:05 was wrong because in the movies they animated and played the “fancier” ending but the audio they put over it played the simpler ending so it didn’t match up.
