Thanks for the vid! Helped me fix my stuck L button after I dropped it. The plastic around it got a bit misshapen, so I shaved some of it off with a razor and bent it back with pliers, and now it works like a charm. A Phillips 000 worked for me (and it was almost too big, in fact). Thanks again for an informative video!
Massive thank you! My shoulder button popped out after dropping it and, thanks to your video, managed to do the repair myself to put the button back and functions properly like your shoulder button camera test suggested!
Thank you for posting this video. the process seems mostly undocumented for some reason and I had to do it with a new backplate from eBay because my old one had a piece missing next to the charging port. Your video was really helpful for reassembling the shoulder buttons.
Siren, for whatever reason I can't reply to your comment directly. To troubleshoot the wonky C stick on the GC controller, I'd first try cleaning out the mechanism. Disassemble the controller (I did a video on this a couple of weeks ago), then pull off the C thumbstick. Shoot some compressed air into the switch mechanism and see if that helps. If not, you could try some spray electrical contact cleaner too (just make sure it dries thoroughly before plugging the controller back in). Good luck!
So I'm having this issue with my 3ds xl Wireless connection, the thing is that when I turn it on the yellow light is normal like always but in the menu it only says Enable but it supposed to say connected or something like that right? And every time I go to settings to look at my Internet connection and when I do the test connection my 3ds xl automatically turns off! Do you know how to fix this issue or something? Thanks :)
This Does Not Compute which direction do I turn the small screws under the rubber things on the back of the 3ds assuming it's the L and R button are facing away from me?
I bought a used 3DS XL and unfortunately the Left Shoulder button wasn't registering properly. Tried cleaning it properly but still to no avail. Turns out the actual micro switch was fudged. Bought a replacement from Ebay and followed the above and now I'm good to go. Thank you very much for the tutorial.
Great tutorial! Also, recently my gamecube's c-stick started thinking it was pressed left no matter what, reconnecting it fails to even momentarily solve the issue. If you've got any idea what the problem is I'd appreciate you letting me know. Thank you in advance!
Ok, quick question concerning the shoulder buttons. It seems my 3DS got dropped as well but it jammed the left shoulder button in and it's become rather unreliable. Would this either be an issue the with spring or the microswitch? I want to know before I go taking my 3DS apart because this isn't something I necessarily do a lot.
+SketchBookShortFilms If the outer shoulder button is stuck in, it's more likely to be a problem with the spring. If the shoulder button moves freely but doesn't have a bit of a click when you press it, then that would be the microswitch. Good luck!
+This Does Not Compute I just took apart my 3DS XL and when I had taken the peaces apart so the shoulder buttons were visible from the inside, they worked both as well as they should. But on the L button I saw some damage (a few small dents) so could it be that when the peaces are together the dents prevent the spring from working? I'm kinda stuck with this right now.
I'm going to attempt to do a very similar repair soon. I also had to buy the plastic plate to get ahold of the buttons. I noticed you swapped just the buttons over to your old console. I'm thinking of being lazy and literally just replacing the entire plastic insert with the shoulder buttons, any down side to this?
I got a 3ds xl on mercari and when I got it the left bumper was sticky. When I pushed down on it it would kinda get stuck and was weird. We used goo gone and sadly it got into the screen and now that part of the screen is a little darker.
greetings! thanks for this awesome video, I have a question regarding to the screws on the 3DS xl back panel, i´m ashamed to say it but i damaged 2 screws heads out of frustration trying to get them out,,, sadly they are the top corners ones ( those near the L / R triggers ) i don't know what to do to get them out since they are inside of holes and i cant heat them to get them loose or weld something to them either. any piece of advice is appreciated and thanks in advance
Luis Joan Alonzo You may want to try using a tool called a screw extractor. They're designed to bite into damaged screw heads so you can get them out (of course, you won't be able to reuse those screws afterwards). Looks like there are small "jeweler's" versions of them for use on screws like those in the 3DS. Good luck!
Hi there, I have a quick question, my New 3DS XL got dropped and the R button moves freely and it only do the "click" when it get pressed in the back corner of the button, it still works but its annoying to press only the corner, could it be the plastic switch that got moved? Thanks in advance!
The PMIC on my new 3DS XL is dead.....on my search it is made from Texas Instrment....but can't find the right one to replace it...any suggestion?i want to fix my 3ds xl before rplcaning the whole button board....
Hi I do hope someone replies to my question. Anyway my 3ds XL has its top piece where the power light screen is at near the top row of where you see the R and L button like right there its cracked..and I don't know how to fix it because its at a point when I open the screen the crack opens wide and its near the WiFi light screen thing :( I really don't want my 3ds to die..if you still don't understand what I mean I could make a video showing my problem for you? I really do need help on what to do with it.
Can you help me with my problem ? If i trigger my left shoulder button sometimes it triggers the 3d and i dont know why. I bought it in 2013 so do i still have guarantee or do I need to fix it myself ? Hopefully you recognize this massage and reply to it soon.
Can you tell me what size screwdriver you were using? I was easily able to get the 2 screws on the back cover and take that off, but I can't get any further. Everything I've trie seems too big. Any help is greatly appreciated!
This Does Not Compute Hmm... that's what I'm trying right now, but not having any luck. I was thinking of trying #000. Thank you so much for getting back to me!
I was wondering where you buy the new 3DS XL bottom plate? I stained the back of my 3DS XL when putting it in a new bag I got. Worst choice. It stained the back of my 3DS and the worst part is my 3DS is white so it really shows. I'm really nit-picky on this.
I picked it up as a used part off of eBay. I'm not aware of any places that sell brand new Nintendo repair parts -- I don't think Nintendo makes them available.
i had the same problem but it got dirty then it was jammed after putting stuff the dirt was gone but still didnt work until i used an knife a put pressure under it and all around and now its work but it slow like u press it and wait few seconds
Thanks, helped me open up my 3DS and fiddle with my jammed R button enough to fix it after It downed in coke and lemonade and got dropped down an escalator.
My L button just stopped working. I followed your tutorial step by step. but nothing's wrong with it. any ideas? the ribbon cable is connected, the button clicks ... I just don't get it. thank you for this, very easy to follow.
My 3DS fell on the ground and hit the L-Button. And now if you press it, it gets stuck down. And you have to lift it back up with your finger every time. Is this because the springs have slipped off or something? Do I need replacement springs? I'm probably going to open the device and see what's going on. Thanks!
+Miguel Angel Barajas I actually took it apart, and saw that the plastic peace had bent a little bit. So I bent it back and when the 3DS was back in one piece both of the buttons worked great.
I would definitely pay you to fix my 3DS XL. I just dropped mine and the L button is sorta jammed but it's very operational. Can I send mine to you? Thanks.
Bought a broken one on eBay to test and exchange for all the broken and scratched parts on mine for $16. I got mine used, it was in really bad shape. I'm going to restore it to the best of my ability.
ok, I saw you said I would need a case plastic thing for my issue. I need to decided if it's worth trying to find and replace that compared to sending to nintendo for 85$
Nick Arnett If the button isn't clicking, then it sounds like you damaged the actual microswitch inside. If you have the New 3DS (as in, the one with the C stick and 4 shoulder buttons on the back) then replacement parts are going to be very hard to find as the system is so new. Good luck!
I got it from eBay...I mentioned at about 6:00 in the video that I bought an entire used bottom panel assembly, and it came with the buttons. I looked for quite a while, and didn't find anyone selling just the buttons, so this was the next best thing. Good luck!
Hi. Any idea, how to fix the shoulder button on an AGS-101 SP (with a donor AGS-001). Replacing the button didn't work and cleaning it with contact cleaner, alcohol and compressed air inside didn't work too but here's a close up of the circuitry: i57.photobucket.com/albums/g230/alvin777/Advance%20SP%20AGS-101%20Shoulder%20Button_zpsxibkjyq3.jpg Thank you. God bless. Rev. 21:4
SevenDeMagnus Try checking for continuity with the switch depressed (it'll be the two innermost pins). If there's no continuity, then the tact switch itself is gooched (which happens, they wear out over time) and needs to be replaced. If it checks out OK, then there's something else wrong deeper in the circuit board -- a cracked or broken trace, etc. Good luck!
Hi Thanks. Do I need to desolder again or it's ok to check the continuity if the switch is on the board? Btw, if you look at the close up of the photo, could it be that blackend section- could that be corrosion breaking the circuit? Any links how to fix a circuit that thin/small? Thanks.

What’s the knife thing he used called??
What the eBay link?
Massive thank you! My shoulder button popped out after dropping it and, thanks to your video, managed to do the repair myself to put the button back and functions properly like your shoulder button camera test suggested!
How much give do your shoulder buttons have when not completely pressed in, do they rattle or are they slightly stiff ?
Thank you for posting this video. the process seems mostly undocumented for some reason and I had to do it with a new backplate from eBay because my old one had a piece missing next to the charging port. Your video was really helpful for reassembling the shoulder buttons.
Video was wonky, but I appreciate the fact that you recorded at all.
10/10. Got the job done. Thank you!

Thank you for this, that hinge pin was why I came and you delivered.

Bought a replacement from Ebay and followed the above and now I'm good to go. Thank you very much for the tutorial.
I did not know about three hidden screws. (under rubbers and cartridge slot)
What a lucky to watch this video before fix. Thanks!
Does this also work for the New 3DS XL?
cant belive its been 12 years since the the 3dsxl dropped
That case looks great! It's just a shame my 3DS XL is already fairly scratched up :/
Great tutorial! Also, recently my gamecube's c-stick started thinking it was pressed left no matter what, reconnecting it fails to even momentarily solve the issue. If you've got any idea what the problem is I'd appreciate you letting me know. Thank you in advance!
Did you ever fix it
Very handy for replacing my 3ds shoulder button ribbon, thanks!

I’m still looking for one of these year of Luigi cases
I got a 3ds xl on mercari and when I got it the left bumper was sticky. When I pushed down on it it would kinda get stuck and was weird. We used goo gone and sadly it got into the screen and now that part of the screen is a little darker.
also any idea to make my L&R button work again...Without replacing them?
greetings! thanks for this awesome video, I have a question regarding to the screws on the 3DS xl back panel, i´m ashamed to say it but i damaged 2 screws heads out of frustration trying to get them out,,, sadly they are the top corners ones ( those near the L / R triggers ) i don't know what to do to get them out since they are inside of holes and i cant heat them to get them loose or weld something to them either. any piece of advice is appreciated and thanks in advance

Thanks for the advise I managed to get them out by drilling their heads :)
Just where do you get the plastic button peices?
Does the DSi do the self test? Because sometimes it will fail to turn on, but I don't think it makes a clicking noise.
i had problems on my 3ds xl with the R botton staying down when clicking it, turns out it was just the plastic clear case that was really tight on it😅
Hi there, I have a quick question, my New 3DS XL got dropped and the R button moves freely and it only do the "click" when it get pressed in the back corner of the button, it still works but its annoying to press only the corner, could it be the plastic switch that got moved? Thanks in advance!
Would this fix if you have a issue with numbers sticking?
Are the old shoulder buttons and the "new" Nintendo shoulder buttons compatible? It looked like your were using the XL vs the new XL
The PMIC on my new 3DS XL is dead.....on my search it is made from Texas Instrment....but can't find the right one to replace it...any suggestion?i want to fix my 3ds xl before rplcaning the whole button board....
Can I get a mp3 version of the BGM you used in the first part? . At least a link to the song

Right next to the right trigger on my 3ds on the hinge the shell broke off still haven't got it fixed😭😵💀
WHOA
I've been looking for this video!
Can you help me with my problem ?
If i trigger my left shoulder button sometimes it triggers the 3d and i dont know why.

This work on 2DS XL? R button won’t register when pressed
We are desperate for a video on how to fix the hinges, we bought a new shell and can't get the top screen to attach to the bottom hinges! Help!
Can you tell me what size screwdriver you were using? I was easily able to get the 2 screws on the back cover and take that off, but I can't get any further. Everything I've trie seems too big. Any help is greatly appreciated!
I was likely using a Phillips #00 screwdriver, one size smaller than a #0. Good luck!
This Does Not Compute Hmm... that's what I'm trying right now, but not having any luck. I was thinking of trying #000.
Thank you so much for getting back to me!
How would u go by replacing the hinges?
what kind of precision screwdriver did you use?
I was wondering where you buy the new 3DS XL bottom plate? I stained the back of my 3DS XL when putting it in a new bag I got. Worst choice. It stained the back of my 3DS and the worst part is my 3DS is white so it really shows. I'm really nit-picky on this.

Yeah Phillips head screws but mine 2 stripped like crazy..
i was following along but one of the screws got stuck....so i kinda gave up half way through...
i had the same problem but it got dirty then it was jammed after putting stuff the dirt was gone but still didnt work until i used an knife a put pressure under it and all around and now its work but it slow like u press it and wait few seconds
The ribbon itself may be damaged

Is this because the springs have slipped off or something? Do I need replacement springs? I'm probably going to open the device and see what's going on. Thanks!
Yes, you need to remove the springs as it might of got broken or squished.
+Miguel Angel Barajas I actually took it apart, and saw that the plastic peace had bent a little bit. So I bent it back and when the 3DS was back in one piece both of the buttons worked great.
+Yagge Oh alright
Yagge I’m having the same problem how do I go about fixing it?
does that apply to the new 3ds xl?
what happens if the face buttons don't press in correctly?
So my hinge pin flew out, and I can't find it. Does anyone know a cheap replace I can use for that?
I would definitely pay you to fix my 3DS XL. I just dropped mine and the L button is sorta jammed but it's very operational. Can I send mine to you? Thanks.
You probably would have to take the 3DS apart and see if it is the spring that's causing it. I've got the same problem at the moment.
Bought a broken one on eBay to test and exchange for all the broken and scratched parts on mine for $16. I got mine used, it was in really bad shape. I'm going to restore it to the best of my ability.
Made it to about the 6 minute mark and realized you did the same thing!
I wish you would've put the tools you used to fix this.
Does this video work with the new 3ds? I dropped my new 3ds on the r button and now it won't click :(
ok, I saw you said I would need a case plastic thing for my issue. I need to decided if it's worth trying to find and replace that compared to sending to nintendo for 85$

That's what I figured. I'll wait some time and if nothing comes up, I'll just send it to nintendo.
how do you remove the micro switch?
what is the screwdriver please?
Where did you buy the replacement button at?

Thanks so much! I've been looking all around for them, now to check ebay!
Who is the third party? can you provide a website please?
1:51 Then pop out your dame game cartridge
Great and helpful video.
Very Good Work and Informative! Thank you! \m/
job well done ,thank you
huh. Replacing a shoulder button on the 3DS systems seems to be less of a PITA than the DS systems.
Hi. Any idea, how to fix the shoulder button on an AGS-101 SP (with a donor AGS-001). Replacing the button didn't work and cleaning it with contact cleaner, alcohol and compressed air inside didn't work too but here's a close up of the circuitry:

Thumbs and subscribed
This is bullshit, whats the name of the screwdrive, holes are too fucking small.... also is there an alternative on using the screwdriver
Phillips. Size 5 or 6. Get a jeweler screwdriver kit.
