Woke up this morning to discover the faceplate of my special edition Majora's Mask New 3DS XL has a bunch of bubbles forming under the paint. I just ordered a replacement faceplate for it, but I was expecting it to be a pain in the ass to do. You make it look so easy, you didn't even turn off the console lol. I'll be bookmarking this video for when my new plates show up.
If the replacement faceplates are generic let me know how they fit, the ones I ordered fit terribly, the bottom faceplate doesn't even stay on without being screwed down the same way genuine XL faceplates do, and I expect the top one to not line up properly with the shell probably.
Yea i changed mine and the top doesnt align fully, its not really noticeable since i have a transparent case over it but it's pretty disappointing. I could always try another one i guess...@@webbedshadow2601

Phillips #1 to be exact. Most common phillips driver is the #2 which will most likely bore out the head on these tiny screws. Great video though! I was really cautious removing my upper plate because there is just so much resistance.
Not really the first shot. But suuure. Wasnt near hitting the screen. Screen protectors are on all of my devices so even if i did slip up just replace the cheap protector.
Just in case if some people do not look at the description. Some shells do not come with the rear camera lens covers. So make sure you remove the ones from your original 3DS shell and put them on the new shell.

The tabs you just can't remove them without damaging the plastic shell or the tab itself. I suggest heat it up and use ducktape it pulls them out easily the only way to not damage it.
Jesse G. Try to use a heatgun if you have it if not use a hairdryer carefully heat up the tabs and put ducktape on it and it should remove them without any damage.
Im so confused, I have read on so many places that you cant swap the top face plate for specifically the new 3ds xl. but you did it clearly very easily. Why are people saying you cant? Am i mixing up the wrong model? is this the US/North america model?
They are referring to the regular new 3ds, not sold in the US, which has easily removable 'faceplates' unlike the 'XL' which does not. These are 'factory' plates that aren't available for general sale but available through unofficial means e.g. AliExpress

yeah, but a decal or skin never feel as good as the native device. i rather repaint, or replace over a skin. But yeah. the easy way would be to get a skin

sorry no, I wont be taking apart my 3DS that far. You have to take all of the hardware out and rebuild the unit. Wouldn't recommend it because the 3DS has a lot of ribbon cables that break very easy
As for the rubber pins that cover screws on upper part, look at AlieExpress, you can buy them there and replace. I'm thinking of changing my plates one day. Right now, the only thing that drives me crazy is battery cover - on the XYBA side there is some loose space when it's on, like there was broken plastic pin inside, but I checked and all is fine. It's just, well... Nintendo doesn't care for their products to be super quality... I decided to get plastic cover case and put it on. It will hold everything I guess..

You literally just peel the sticker and put it on the new shell. or you can print it out on paper and use tape (unless you have special sticker paper).

It looks like your back plate is depressed in too much around the screws. I'm thinking that those screw-retaining washers you left out may have stopped this from happening?
you are correct. Leaving them in is better. if you tighten it too much without the retaining washers you could crack it. Its still holding up fine. and i still never put them back on.

So when I tried changing the top faceplate for my New 3ds XL, the camera and the wires came out. I put them back in, but now my 3ds doesn't work right. The battery will occasionally say it's almost dead, and none of the buttons on the bottom half will work when that's happening. Any idea whats causing this?
Hm that is really weird I would look around the internet of how to fix that issue. Or really check you put the camera in right. Otherwise you just have a broken 2ds since the camera tracks where you are for the 3d

That thing has to be entirely taken apart because of how delicate it is and you just rip the front plate off.

The silver rings are not necessary. Its just there to keep your screws from falling out of the shell when it's detached.

What I'm referring to is the paint on the top faceplate peeling off and having to worry about the exposed metal oxidizing before it turns black

it should just be a slide on. it shouldnt snap on.
Snapping it on, or applying pressure to it to snap it on can damage or bend the plastic

you have to take out the screws under the pads in order to remove the top panel. there is nothing on the back of the top screen to unscrew.

yes, you just push on the lenses and they will fall out, then swap. the rings you just snap onto the new screws on the new plate
