Why are so many compelled to go to space when our Earth offers so much. May we all be more peaceful and loving and less dominating and hateful. Nice video!!! 🙏💙
Fantastic video, you can really hear the passion in his voice and he is hitting such an important topic, we know more about space than we do of our own ocean!
I believe mauna kea in hawaii is technically the tallest mountain on earth. It is about 33k feet tall from the lowest point under the ocean to the tallest point 4k feet above sea level. Crazy huh?
@@TANQ31 well mountains are actually sometimes 10 times deeper than they appear. Most of the mountain (its root) is under the ground. They are like pegs that overall stabilise the crust of continents. They are like the footings for a building, the foundation! But of course we cannot see this only through seismology can we detect this.
This would be my dream job... I love the ocean and marine life so much, even though I've lived in a desert my whole life and never even been on the ocean. Maybe that's why I find it so fascinating!
I am enthralled and would do ANYTHING to be part of this exploration team! A life long dream of mine and so inspiring to see this happening! TY David Gallo!
I love anything about the ocean. The animals, the plants, why is it blue? Or green? It’s very interesting that we have lakes in our oceans n rivers n waterfalls? Wow!! So cool not to mention the volcanos firing up the bottom in places, a wonderful world we live in and once more ppl understand how beautiful it really is maybe...there would b more ppl who will want to take care of her, keep it clean for us n all that live in water full time. Can’t wait to see what will happen cuz it’s unexplored to date. Better days ahead friends if we want it.
I think that the more we learn about the ocean, the more we know how much we don't know. The multitudes of environments, like that pond or that river, was unknown when you were in school. Science was a bit naive when spouting off I think.
I want to be a marine biologist/oceanographer. The ocean is amazing, even though scares the crud out of me. It's beautiful above and below the surface. I've always loved it.
Nice presentation...who knows what will be found in our lifetimes...Personally I am interested in those ancient civilizations that lurk under the seas that were covered up after the last ice age melt...Cambay...Doggerland...Yonagumi...Atlit-Yam Haifa, I think they are only the tip on the proverbial iceberg..
There is intelligent life in those oceans. They think, speak a language, have family units, feelings, emotions..and some can outlive humans by a long shot. One fish was estimated at between 350-500 yrs old at the time of its capture. The same fish is believed not to have evolved in any sense since the beginning of its time in the ocean. It doesn't have to. It's perfect.
Rivers, Waterfalls, Hot Springs, Volcanoes. Looks Like The Deep Sea Bottom Is As Enticing As The Dry Land. And With Its' Own Species Of Life Too. I Will Need To Watch This Many Times!!
i don't like reading books, but i love learning new things. Thank you TED-ED for giving all of us the opportunities to expand our knowledge in the easiest and most effective way possible.
Excellent presentation. It even has humor. I agree with this guy. This is an amazing planet and the deep waters are like outer space. Thanks so much for posting this video.
I know it may seem like we've discovered more from the universe than our own ocean, but truth is, we really haven't. The universe is humongous compared to our ocean and comparing the two would be inaccurate. Yes, maybe we've discovered only 5% of our ocean, but we've probably only discovered 1% of our universe, or even less, because of how infinite it is. I'd say the reason more people are attached to discovering outer space is because its a much scarier and bigger mystery to them than that of our ocean. Not saying that the ocean shouldn't be looked upon, because its sad that we've only explored 5% of something so mysterious and beautiful that lies within our very own planet and not outside of it. The ocean and the universe are the biggest mysteries humanity has ever come to know and I wish I could know more about them!
+Karen Anguiano we've discovered around 0.00000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000001% of our universe.
Satellites and probes have given us amazing images of the universe. In essence... that is incredibly far. But yet, the deepest parts of our own world have mostly been untouched, unexplored or never seen by human eyes.... and that is just under our feet....... Undeniably, it is litteraly another world.
Que hermoso video y tiene tanta razón. El mar sigue sin ser explorado. Wow i love this video fron start to end. Please never stop searching the oceans. Thanks for give to my eyes new perspectives!
The ocean has fascinated me, and I've always wanted to go in one of those small submarines with 1 or 2 other marine biologists, and go to the very depths of the ocean, and explore more of the ocean :)
I'd like to just say that this speaker is very important. I already have an interest in the deep. Listening to him speak just confirms I've made the right choice. People like this are really great for educational seminars. I will be going to more thanks to this video so THANK YOU VERY MUCH. 😏..❤✌✊🏾
Rich people want to reach the impossible (space travel) , they spend millions and millions but not 1 has the inspiration to discover the oceans on our world.
Excellent presentation, good way to introduce the science and the technology. Suggestion: don't waste time/energy/resources on the graphics stuff (B&W photos or pseudo-engravings become video, etc.)
It's literally a 'flow' or current of a separate distinct 'water' -which is usually much colder temp wise and often less saline or ocean water so much as fresh or fresher water. I dont know if there are any models on videos here or not? but if you look up the phrase Thermalclines [sp] you'd get a much better picture. It not only 'feels differnet it 'looks' different-often being suddenly clearer or less clear in a defined flowing shape -sandwiched between layers of 'sea/salty/warmer water.
SubhanAllah. now this must be a mystery for those who are non muslims but for the muslims it has already been told that there is a clear boundary between the waters too. amazing info and great channel.
I believe he's referring to ocean rivers which are indeed fresh[er] water and colder -therefore 'denser' as a deep diver one can actually see this in salt waters in depths of less than 200 fsw. Usually these thermal-clines [?] cant spell it- are colder and sometimes more brackish flows or currents at certain levels. But I have also seen actual freshwater "rivers' in the Caribbean where fresh water springs seep up from the seabed and you can feel it temperature wise and you can 'see' it clearly.
I know, right? We're always guessing about space and everyone wants to know more, but not that many people want to know more about the ocean. It's weird, because there are underwater rivers and lakes, how could you not want to know more?!
This is so cool. I actually made a highDEA about this a while ago. Talking about the world beneath our feet. While we're so obsessed with outer space and other universes with extra terrestrial life (which is totally understandable, I'm obsessed too) But what if right now as we speak there's this other worldly "universe" going on beneath our feet. Filled with all kinds of creatures we couldn't even imagine, and maybe all the stuff we think is made up, could be real, like Mermaids, Megaladons...
Dammit, this should have been like 2 hours long minimum.
He spoke way too fast and the pictures went too quickyl ;(
I could spend all day learning new things about the deep ocean! And I am a water person I fish ,surf, swim, boat, I love the water!
You be trippin
Not enough people would click on it.
We can only give you eight minutes. Go now. Speak!
Why are so many compelled to go to space when our Earth offers so much. May we all be more peaceful and loving and less dominating and hateful. Nice video!!! 🙏💙
I feel the same way, no telling how many ancient civilizations there are that are underwater waiting to be discovered
