Worked out really nicely. I would’ve seen the barbed wire on the top of the wall and given up and walked on. That’s the takeaway lesson for me. Thanks Gary 👍
Brilliant that Gary! Not a massive woodland shooter but would defo like to visit that location! To all those thinking of becoming a member all I would say is throw that money down, absolutely invaluable tuition at an amazing price. Critique is brutal, honest but aimed to make you improve! I've learned so much from membership and love the comps, best money I've spent on improving my photography without doubt. 👍🏻
Excellent, as ever, Gary. Beautiful images and I especially like the low down image with the stone in the foreground. Great spot and beautiful capture.
Mr G, I am fortunate enough to live fairly close to that location, and it totally pops when the fog is in during the autumn. Fantastic overview of the place, and I love the low wall shot at the north end. Keep them coming, they are always interesting.
I'm a Buxtonion and I thought I recognised it, not been for about 40 years but I used to take part in a motorcycle trial there in Boxing Day. been in Somerset for 34 years but don't miss the weather! Thank you Gary
Lovely shots of the colorful autumn color and the beautiful woodland scenery. Congratulations on taking advantage of an opportunity to get some charming shots of the dogs and their and owners.
I still haven’t been able to decide if I love your technical skills in photography or the enthusiasm and joy you bring to photography. Maybe both. Thanks Gary !
Another great video Gary. What a cracking woodland and no wonder you spent so long in there. The photo's that you took of the people with there dogs were brilliant and i bet they would have been chuffed to bits with them. Great image's as usual Gary. Look forward to the next one.
Fabulous video, plenty of excellent information to take on board. And what beautiful pictures of the dogs I bet the owners will be delighted with them.
What a beautiful location. Love seeing it at the different perspectives and hearing your thoughts on what you are doing and why. I absolutely love the photo of Lexi, you made her look so soleful and the one of Keith and Lexi looking at each other was great too.
I like the way you show us the in camera and your thought process on getting the best pictures. How you move around in the first part. It looks good here but, lets move around and make it better. I know i need to slow down and move around more. Thanks for the great video.
Another brilliant set of images from a stunning location Gary 👍 I've passed within a few metres of this location on many occasions, but I only realised it was there quite recently when I started to see many images of it online. You can bet your last pound that it's somewhere I will be visiting in the future, and having watched your video I won't be leaving it for too long before I go. Keep up the great work, always an enjoyable watch 👍
Hi Gary what a amazing place i was there thursday had to work for the images you video tells the story of this place very well - what a place to create and capture best wishes pat
I was there on Saturday morning , forecast said fog and we had a bit of frost....arrived and neither were present...its still a great place to go during any time of the year, sad that the barbed wire fence has gone up at the Southern end....
Dear Gary (if I may, I guess I'm the older), I have been watching your channel for about three years now. Although I have not commented yet, I enjoyed all your work and learned a lot from them. This video, however, was so beautiful and emotional that I've decided to congratulate you and thank for this experience. The woodland photos are marvelous, and your pics of the elderly owners and their dogs are moving. Unfortunately I cannot afford to be a member of your channel, however I keep on following you from far away Hungary. Best regards, György
I wasn’t begging for members just pointing out the fact I have a members area. I love you being right here. Thank you for your continued support. That’s all I ever wanted 👍👍
As always sir a wonderful video and fabulous images. I suppose showing images of places such as this is a double edged sword. Wonderful that the rest of us get to see places we've never been but terrible in the fact that not long after a "new" place is shown it becomes overdone to death. I see this so often with other professional photographers I follow. They show their best shots from a place they just came back from and within a year or two the place has been over shot and you see images of it everywhere. I suppose our challenge as professional photographers is to try and find a better composition of the over done places and shoot it in a way that hasn't been done yet. I admire your work very much and try as best I can to do what you do. Sometimes with pretty good success, other times not so much. Unfortunately I don't have the grand places you visit in my backyard like you do so I have to make the best of where I go. One last parting comment, I must say I was shocked to see you shooting with a Nikon Z8 rather than the Canon you usually shoot with. :)
hi Gary you said its not good practice for the viewer to end up in the centre well I think it can and does work creating a sense of stillness and calm, I'm not a fan of obvious leading lines creating movement as once you eye has made this move what then, whereby placing together a solid simple overall composition has much more longevity
It’s definitely not good practice, but that doesn’t mean placing the subject in centre won’t work all the time. Plus, if it works for you then that’s fine 👍👍
A photographers vlog, deeper thought and building up the images from start to finish. Although we are friends, I bloody love watching your videos mate! Never been here, could this be my fist honey place to shoot. 👍
I know that place driven by many times without my camera must go take a look, love the fact as a professional photographer you photo people and send them the pic's for free, some cracking photos of the lads with their dogs the other pictures were great to. Noticed you removed the fence in some of the shots and made a great job I always struggle with this in Photoshop/Lightroom , great vlog Gary.
Up above Matlock town heading to Chesterfield think its called High Moor. as you get to the top of high moor take a left turn and look for a gate with a few parking spaces. It's about 100meters down. Hope this helped
The image where you organized the autumnal leaves was 'good' - The rest were breathtaking! Not been there for years, reminded me of a location up at Kielder. Trees are always my favourite subject - The Lime tree avenue at Clumber Park, The Wellingtonias in Wellington or the entrance to Plas Newydd on the Menai Straits - who can resist a photo? Is this THE BEST Woodland in England, guess Padley Gorge and Wistman's Wood reign for me.
Hi Gary, you did a great job of the location, I live 10 mins away and drove there the other day when we had pretty heavy fog, belted down there and it was the only place in the surroundings that didn't have any fog lol, fog to the left, fog to the right, but vitrually none in that particular walk. Only a few local photographers and dog walkers knew about it but now it's been so overshot with photographers coming from all over the UK. Haha, I didn't watch right to the very end! I've just seen them now! 😂 As for best woodland in the UK - it's very nice yes, but have you been to Padley Gorge, that is a dream if you can get some mist or fog, I've never been lucky to get much and been there 5 times now!
The fence with the silver/blue wire on top of the wall does not look great; but the Beach trees are very nice. I note you cloned the wire and posts out.:)
A line of beech trees is a b eautiful thing for sure, which is one of the reasons why the Dark Hedges in County Antrim, Northern Ireland has become such an iconic location, with its avenue of beech trees on both sides. Beech trees do retain a lot of their leaves for a large part of winter in marcescence, American beeches more so than European. They look great in snow with the orange/amber hues. I can’t believe the landowner has put that ugly barbed wire fence on top of the dry stone wall. There were a couple of photographs where it wasn’t there. Maybe there were some gaps on the wall, or perhaps you cloned them out. For me, they spoiled the images they were in.
