      Hi Darren,
It's been one of the coldest and wettest Springs I have ever experienced. I'm growing as much food as I can in my garden at the moment so am very tuned into how the weather is going. I've known for a long time about the need for the gas of life, without it the plants don't grow and we would all perish!
Hope all good in the Funky camp. Steak is always good when cooked and eaten outdoors:) Much better than Ze bugz. Do not eat Ze bugz :)

Not playing that silly game, I do like playing the outdoor chill out game with a good steak, good fire, good beer and good friends. 100% with growing food. I talked about this last night on here. Hi Lonnie, Yes a good woodstove and source of dry fuel would have made things more comfortable thats for sure. It wasn't too cold though but any dampness does accentuate the coolness. Apart from that I slept warm and dry and was awoken by the dawn chorus of bird song:)

Me and my other half went into a cave in Laos many years back. We had a local man to take us in. All he had was a candle and from what I remember of it, the candle was just a little bigger than a Birthday candle. Yes our eyes got accustomed to the dark of the cave and the power of one candle light. Amazing how much we could see in the dark cave.. surprisingly how long one candle lasted. Think the tour was over 1.5 hrs long.
Watching this video in a tent this morning, up in the peak District alas in a campsite 😅

Another wonderful video Sandy👍👍. Bought back fond memories of our first camping experience. 1959, our first full year in Canada. Dad wanted to camp lol (cheap holiday), my uncle loaned us a 4 person tent and a Coleman lantern. Friday after dad finished work we set off on a 4 hour drive to Rock Lake Algonquin Park. Pitch black when we arrived. Dad and my brother set the tent up just before it started to teem with rain. No ground sheet, NO sleeping bags just newspapers for under the wool blankets that mom had folded in half and pinned together with blanket pins. We all huddled around the centre pole, 3 kids, 2 adults and our boxer named Fritz lol.
What an adventure. The rain pounding on the tent and then the best experience ever, the eerie sound of wolves calling back and forth across the lake. We had no stove so we cooked over an open fire. Simpler times.
You are a real ‘trooper’ . Stay safe and well.

Hi Sandy, just catching up on some of your great vids especially with adventures in scotland, I'd love a motorcycle again but recently been suffering bad arthritic joints knee and shoulder, wear and tear I guess, just wondered how you were coping being a similar age, especially in damp conditions, keeping mobile cycling I guess helps a lot. We both have cycles now, found my wife a nice little folding bike to use tracks around town and sea front, car stays at home a fair bit, main roads we try to we keep away from it's so busy with some reckless idiots out there. I thought about the dent in your bike frame, maybe clean & fill with some braze, reshape and paint.. I know the feeling as I put a dink in my best telescope, gutted. knife is still good and sharp great to use with the air rifle at the caravan deep in Dorset.. Hope all is good, Atb Tom..

Bit of a shame there Sandy, you were unlucky with the weather. The ground just wasn't draining at all was it? Do you have places to camp that are on higher ground?
It has been a wet spring tho. I've been out 6 or 8 times since March, think they were all muddy!
February was a great month tho, long dry spells with lovely clear frosty night skies.
Do you have a preference between winter/summer camping?

It really has been wet out, my garden seems to have been under an inch of water for weeks now. My allotment being heavy clay is only good for growing watercress. Glad you’re still managing to spend some time in our natural habitat. Curious to know, how would you go about cleaning your tent? Cheers 🍻 - Andy

Hi Andy, The tent didn't get too muddy, I won't ever clean a tent you'll probably do more harm than good. If it does get muddy it will soon become clean again when camping in the next rain shower:)

Both types of saw have their advantages, this one is great when you want to cut lots of small wood for the firebox stove because you can hold it with your feet like I did in this video

evening. I'm liking the candle lantern but I'm doing the usual 'research' on the web and finding they're 50 quid or more and need special candles. Hmmmm. I'll stick with the head torch. Or can you recommend anything that is either cheaper or really worth that kind of money? Cheers

    • @WiltshireMan
      @WiltshireMan  Рік тому

Hi Neil I'm not a salesman for candle lanterns but if you have found one for £50 buy it, that is half what they normally cost.
As for candles, I just use cheap candles from amazon and cut them in half to fit. They will burn for around 3 to 4 hours

Hi Sandy, well sir that was a wet one ! That mesh shelter pouch works really well on the front of your bike.. And it was one reason I made it out of mesh, nice for chucking in a wet tent and sorting it our to dry when you get home Sir,, Loved the nose bag..

It was a wet one for sure but I was warm cosy and dry in the sleeping area of the tent. What a fantastic job you have done on the Iron wall tent Mack, unbelievable quality and attention to detail this will make the tent much more usable especially during the Winter when the cold biting winds blow.
I shall have to do something in return!!!! :)
