I often get asked where did I get the hooded reflector from for the Feuerhand hurricane lantern, well I got mine from the online auction site, they are a bit pricey around £20 and don't really add much more light but when positioned below eye level then they stop the glare of the naked flame ruining your night vision. The rucksack I used on this occasion was a modified Swedish army backpack, bike was my One One Bootzipper hardtail mountain bike from Planet X.
Have you seen the UCO camping candle lanterns? Just got one of the mini versions, haven't used it in anger yet but they look good from others that've used them. The candles that come with it are supposed to last 4 hours, but other people use citronella or ordinary tealights with good results.
Great video as always Sandy. The fire was marvellous, and i totally get the reason behind your thinking about an open fire in the wilderness, along with the alluring sound of the Tawney owl's calls, and the sizzle of your steak. Perfect one nighter. Stay safe man. 👍😊
What a peacefull bit of Woodland you get to use...so peacefull and lovely to hear the owl and different bird sounds and i also agree it must be in our dna to enjoy such nature and wildlife..ty for sharing.
Interesting point about the fire, it's a very primal focus. Animals and birds have fur and feather for warmth, but humans have shed hair as we evolved and turned to our ingenuity instead to tackle the elements, discovering fire and shelter building, working animal skins for clothing and stuff, and there's a wonderful ancient continuity revisiting those moments hunkered down in camp with a fire and eating in the open. Beautiful really, and the owls hooting capped the night.
What a brilliant night out. That woodpecker had a lot to say lol. And the male Tawny owl...unless I hear those on an overnighter, it isnt a good camp...something verry comforting hearing them. That meal, Jamie Oliver eat your heart out 👍
Thanks Sandy, times have been hard lately and this was a sure tonic. I miss the outdoor woodland camps. Was supposed to travel north tomorrow to camp with friends. A blown head gasket has finished that idea. Be well and enjoy the outdoors my friend
Well why don't I or a few others (Scott and Mike) travel to your neck of the woods and do a Camp there? Maybe a two nighter to make the trip worthwhile?
A very homely camp indeed Sandy, what with the lamp, a very nice tarp and bivi, and the firebox stove to cook that great looking steak, accompanied by a great beer, and all in a peaceful woodland even with the Owl hooting away lovely thanks for sharing a great video 👏👋
Thank you for another wonderful camping trip Sandy👍🏻 I fully endorse your love for nature and especially when human made noises quite down and nature starts to entertain you with its "music". Looking forward to the next trip Sandy👌🏻
Brilliant that Sandy. I’m with you. The ridge raider is great. Not everyone’s cup of tea though. I wake up with a croaky voice no matter what 😂. I always have a good night but rarely a good sleep.
Hahaa, I must admit it's 50/ 50 whether I get a good nights kip and that applies either on a camp or at home, I really am enjoying The Ridge raider Bivi Paul, when combined with a tarp it makes a good woodland set up :)
Yeah, we have it in our DNA. Great Video, thank you ... I miss the times very much, when you could do these things without planes and stuff everywhere ...
@@WiltshireMan Yes. Actually -- isn't it also OUR infinite SKY ? Did anyone ask US, if we want it to be packed with manmade control-rubbish ? Against the human DNA. God bless.
@WiltshireMan Yes, OUR sky, that used to be infinite and magic, is now full of flying survei.... trash. Did anyone ask us millions, if it's okay to kill our myths?
That was a nice bonus suprise camp video sandy 👌 i was going to say a comment about it being a tawny owl 🦉 but ya pipped me sandy 👍 many happy returns of the day sandy for friday 🎉🙌🥃👌
Yay! Glad to see you feeding yourself very well Sandy. Delicious.. that pan fried steak and greens, washed down with a beer and a wee dram or two. Warms you through the night. Snug. Owl hoots Goodnight and All is Well.
Really nice to see you out again Sandy, the owl speak was magnificent, I love it when our earthly neighbours come alive at night foxes, deer and night hunters, your efforts are really appreciated and your cheerfulness at being at one under the night. All the best. Harry
Nice to see you back out camping with the owls 🦉 and a nice bit of stake and veggies it looks a little bit cold sandy in the wood and damp long you enjoyed your self that's the main thing stay safe and stay healthy one life enjoy blessed be
Lovely camp - nice light tarp & bivvy, and a (lovely) monstrosity of a rucksack 😊 The mic caught the owl perfectly 🦉 The light from the lamp is beautiful. Nice swale that - I had to check the word as I watch so many foreign smallholding vids, that I'm used to it meaning a contour channel intended to trap water so that it soaks into the ground rather than run-off. But the UK meaning is for drainage, often in woodland.
You're very brave, Sandy out in this weather ❄️ 🌨 🥶 🧊 you need to find your bootie camping socks in this cold 🥶 weather, I wear mine & I'm inside the house 😂 it was only when I saw you wearing them last year, I decided to get some. Hope your wife is doing OK. 💐 Take care & fabulous video. 🦉 🌳
Your absolutely right about a fire sandy, plenty of times during my younger years operating fully tactical when a fire would have been a real boost to morale but no such luck. Noise and light discipline at all time during night. Great little camp that one sandy that tawny was very close 👍😉👍🥰♥️ love to all the family ❤️❤️
That beautiful moon glow turned into cloud cover and light sprinkle…perfect night in the UK. Man-o-man, that campfire steak looked delicious. You’re right about the campfire comfort and the owlsong. It is that way for me too. I wish you many more. Thank you…from an old man in the US, hills of east Tennessee.
The woods and fields looked beautiful as the sun was going down, good to hear an owl, occasionally I get one in my big eucalyptus tree in the garden,it’s a really calming sound😊
That was the kind of camping experience which should completely recharge an outdoorsman's battery for certain. I am sure that you were pretty okay with that one. Whenever that old oil lamp comes out of your pack, I know that it's going to be a fine camp. A great steak along with some home grown vegetables means that you provided some happiness for your belly too. Thanks for making my weekend complete with a wonderful adventure with Wiltshire Man. See you on the next one Sandy, be happy and healthy and enjoy yourself to the fullest.
Your some man Sandy, not sure if i could do that now @ 73 love camping nice video good adventure my best wishes to you from the Philippines ♥️💪👍😉😀😁🐑🇵🇭🏴⭐
Excellent as always Sandy! I use either lose fitting rubber bands or cycling clips around my trouser bottoms when getting into a bivi as I hate it when my trouser legs roll up lol… very best wishes mate and thank you for another enjoyable video 👍🏻👍🏻😎
Nice to watch a woodland bivi video with absolutely no supernatural goings on or cryptids lurking in the woods. Just a bit of cooking and maybe an owl. 👍
Thanks Chris, I'm seeing that too.People are posting a lot of crap at the moment, they watch too many horror movies I reckon. They are playing the game to get views and playing the audience. I'm just posting up what I see as real .
Good to see you eating a good meal sandy and not a cheap pot noodle with no nourishment in it. And a can of beer, wow you're really treating yourself today.
Hi Sandy, good to see you in the woods again mate, love all the videos cycling, motorbikes, garden, Local history, but I think my favourites are the camping videos . Simple meal it may be mate, but it looked mighty tasty to my eyes, and with a fine pint too. Super nice to hear the Owl, its a very soulful experience I find doing a night in the woods, also I find it cleansings and re-energizes me I feel. Great Video Sandy keep them coming mate, Big thumbs up and good health to one and all in the House of the Wiltshire Man. Regards Moose
The camping one's are my best also but not always easy to get the time Moose, I've been making camping videos on YT since I started and I shan't be stopping any time soon :)
Thank you for taking us with you 👍 love watching the camping videos. Ironically my most ever watched video was filmed up top of that track, by the farm 😉😁
You'll have to do more camping vids :) I enjoyed that walk along the old rail track off of Mill lane, something I shall have to visit, did you manage to speak to the Citroen owner? Maybe you could buy one of them?
A very pleasurable camp to watch sandy. About to go on a 3 day motocamp and hope i have a hooting owl as well. And a steak over the fire. All the best.
I love all your videos, but I especially enjoy your camping ones. There is always a lovely peaceful atmosphere conveyed. It must be a bit of a nuisance if you have to wriggle out of the bivvy for a call of nature in the middle of the night, particularly if you have had a beer or two.😊
You make this camping look really easy but I know you have been doing it for a long time so you know what you are about, your so organised that It's a pleasure too watch, take care, Colin.
Fantastic camp out Sandy. I wish I had a permission site where I could get out like you. Still it’s always refreshing to see & enjoy your outings. The 🦉 are always a pleasure to hear. Thanks 🙏
Lovely. Thanks for sharing this mini adventure, Mr. Wiltshire. I settled down and had the choice of an Itchy Boots video, or an overnighted from W.M. Wiltshire Man of course! I’ll watch Noraly later…

Just by coincidence Sandy, I went out last night for a cheeky wild camp on the river bank close to a woods I often go in. I too was under a tarp and in my Rab Ridge Master, the twin hooped side entry version of yours. Hats off to you though. We are probably the same age and I am certainly not as graceful getting in and out of mine as you are and as I was a few years back. Unfortunately for me it was blowing around 10-15mph and gusting upto 25mph with heavy showers for the first couple of hours before calming right down to a still night. I am not sure if I still am as enamoured with bivving in those conditions as I once was. I certainly had to set the tarp very low between my walking poles to stop it turning into a parachute . Felt fantastic in the morning though, slept like a log. There is just something about the purity of a bivvy camp.
Glad you got out Dave, wind and rain does it for me on a camp. I'm loving the bivi, and hope to use it along with other shelters as the Winter sets in.
Sounds good to me. Been looking at doing a camp myself, now that some of the political heat is off here temporarily,. Just have to finish some work on the house first- might not get out til winter though. 🎃🍁🎃🍂
Another great overnight caping video bro, gee with that bivy by the time I got in and finally ready to sleep I would need to get up to pee. That tarp worked out well in giving you shelter to cook and relax. Safe travels. Ken.
Great vlog and a good over-nighter Sandy. I think I'm going to have to bite the bullet and invest in a good 4-season sleeping bag so I don't have to sleep in quite so many layers on winter camps.
Yes Steve, its worth investing in a decent Winter sleeping bag or maybe getan Army Softie suit to wear as an extra layer, that will do the trick and be cheap
Love my Firebox. I did opt for the posh titanium version as I carry it on my back and on the bike. Fanciest thing I’ve cooked on it was a couple of grilled salmon filets.

I agree with your comments about having a fire, even if it’s a warm night the need for a fire makes one feel secure, definitely in our DNA.

Thanks, Sandy. Another year went by and I didn't get out, so it's great to watch your videos. 🙂

Wonderful Sandy! I really appreciate you cramming in an overnighter👌Some awesome colours on your ride in too.... KTF🙏
Ah, we are getting the autumn colours now, it will soon be hot tent season :)
First time watcher. Good video. Thanks
Thanks Tom, I try and get out for a camp as often as I can so there will be more camping content among the other stuff I do in the future
Your an inspiration for us oldies Sandy👏. Reckon your more Ray mears than Bare Grylls 😂. Maybe even Jack Hargreaves for those that remember.

Love my Firebox. I did opt for the posh titanium version as I carry it on my back and on the bike. Fanciest thing I’ve cooked on it was a couple of grilled salmon filets.
Mine is also a Ti version, I think the Stainless steel one may be more robust but ofcourse more heavy too.
Even at home with a woodburner there is something super relaxing about it. Maybe safe from prowling wolves 😮
Another inspirational video. Thank you 🙏
