He openly admitted to using HGH and TRT on a podcast with Russell Brand. I love the JRE podcast but all these fan boys trying to defend him is hilarious.
@@user-ti9zc1xv2b Lol yes he has. JRE #88 with Andy Dick, at 24:15 - Joe Rogan: "I take human growth hormone and testosterone." And that was in 2013, he's likely upped his dosage to deal with the fact that he's getting older.
Interesting. I'm 57 doing TRT which helped me gain back weight I lost due to crohns disease. Doctor now prescribed HGH which I haven't started yet, they forgot to send needles, but I wanted to research it before jabbing the stuff into my body. It tooks years of research and testing for me to beat crohns. I'll be damned if I'm going to look like Rogan after all of that work.
I'm a clinical exercise physiologist with over 27 years of experience and I specialize in endocrinology. Be very careful with HGH because excessive dosing causes your intestines to grow! This is Joe Rogan's issues and has nothing to do with insulin resistance in his case! Too much HGH and there are a lot of bodybuilders who use too much.
@@Total_Body_Fitness_USA Why do regular guys even want to take HGH? I understand Test, but HGH just seems like a bad choice in terms of risk assessment.
@@mack626 I always recommend checking IGF-1 levels and if low then doing testosterone can increase it. There are many natural things you can do to increase levels and like anything too much can cause harm. The upper end of normal is good, but when you start doing supraphysiological doses then you risk what's referred to as the HGH gut. It's a very ugly look in my opinion. As Arnold says, big bodybuilders with big guts is not good.

The point is that he still has visible abs even though his torso is much wider. Which means it isn’t caused by a layer of fat over the abs like a normal 55 year old would have.
@Matt Wandrey Well, Joe has admitted to TRT more than once. He's been on TRT since 40 and I bet he has been using HGH since then, too. The dude is obsessed with living forever, so it's safe to assume he looked to HGH/TRT as the fountain of youth combo.
That is what I was thinking , I imagine so does everyone else . Compare any older guy who works out next to a younger guy . The older guy just looks , well , older and less firm . As for the face , again muscles and skin loose shape . ( I dont know , you tell me )
Did u not get the memo??? It's not called "Palumboism" any longer it's called "Lennyism" LMAO I see u had his picture up there from one of his contests...
I’m impressed Derrick is so knowledgeable about this topic. I’m a type 1 diabetic and I have struggles with stomach emptying and inflammation. Gastroparesis is a horrible condition, it’s unbearable some days
Tyno GH yea most people probably need to watch Greg first tho then transition into more specific topics. Ideally we all just look up scientific literature on our own and read them but
If Joe Rogan is taking Growth Hormone, I don't think he's abusing it to the point of developing a bubble gut. We know for sure he's in TRT. Also, he is 56 years old already. This is just a gut from engorging too much food and not doing enough cardio to burn the excess calories. And also old age, with his metabolism slowing down. I'm 68 years old, I'm on TRT, and I exercise, I don’t take GH, and I still have a small gut.
Imagine having that physique in the 1950s...you’d be in the movies. People would pay to see you beat the snot outta the bad guys. The first action hero.
Unless we go "raw", don't most of us become more rotund, more"distended", as we get older? Great explanation of Bubble Gut | Palumboism. Very educational. Just so long as you don't blame the weed, we're cool.
PSA: Palumboism, Insulin Resistance and Diabetic Neuropathy are two completely differently things. Palumboism is a colloquial term to refer to this appearance. It's not endorsed by the scientific community. There's not a single scientific paper in Pubmed about it. Diabetic Neuropathy covers a range of conditions - but you need to be diagnosed with diabetes first. If I was seeing Joe Rogan as one of my patient's, I would think about abdominal obesity from calorie excess. It's a much more common cause than growth hormone abuse. And obesity itself can cause insulin resistance as part of metabolic syndrome. I couldn't find much scientific literature on growth hormone causing this appearance as a long-term side effect. It's possible, but it's not been well studied yet. Basically, I think you've got some interesting ideas about this, but your information was misleading. You need to be much clearer that you are not an expert, and that you don't know much about what's scientifically proven and what's not, or you're going to mislead people. You also misunderstood some basic medical concepts about diabetic neuropathy. I wouldn't have mentioned diabetic neuropathy as it tends to present first with altered sensation in the limbs many years after diagnosis as a result of poor control rather than the delayed gastric emptying, but physicians are pretty poor at recognising this so it's probably underdiagnosed. A better way to make the point you were trying to make would be: "Growth Hormone is known to cause insulin resistance and this could have contributed to his diagnosis of diabetes and the abdominal obesity, or "bubble gut" that you see here." Qualifications: I'm a British hospital physician who's worked in diabetes clinics.
I didn’t get the diabetic neuropathy aspect here but I think you are ignoring that Joe, and the other bodybuilders here have visible abs no matter how big there stomachs get. That is NOT typical obesity.
@Aaron Neville i have abs and have this issue and its not from insulin or hgh. i do however do steroid cycles. this issue is lack of discipline in diet and simply overeating allowing the stomach to distend. its def reversible with weight loss and diet control. in fact i wouldnt be surprised if joe loses the gut and comes back to show it off in the next year.
@Aaron Neville yeah u can def add fat bulking. Also overeating distends the stomach by stretching because u are stuffing yourself when trying to consume as many calories as possible. Also bloating/water retention is a big issue and very common when trying to balance estrogen, sodium and carbs during a cycle!
I've got the same issue and it only started when I started doing Olympic Lifting. I'm a cheapskate and don't use any drugs other than caffeine and Beta Alanine for a pre workout. But I have the same thing even when lean. But never have I taken HGH or Steroids or any other chemical. the lone except would have been a bottle of Androstendione in 1996 or maybe 1997. But otherwise just power cleans and snatches have caused me to have the same look
It’s a lot like plastic surgery if done correctly it will enhance your looks for the rest of your life. But when you start to see results and decide that you need more and more of it to fix all your other insecurities then you’re destined to look like shit.

Great video. Best explanation I’ve heard for this phenomenon. One small quibble: When you say, "I’m not trying to say it’s bad or anything…". Yeah, I think you are saying it’s bad, and I agree 100%. Bravo for shining the spotlight the biochemical and physiological negatives of HGH abuse!
@@stevenmoore3381 Why is it bad?? You think that taking a dangerous medication isn’t "bad" to the person doing the self-medicating because they admit to it? As a physician, I must say that isn’t what first comes to mind when hearing about people taking this class of drugs. Your comment is akin to saying, "hey, I know a guy who shoots up Fentanyl, but it’s okay ‘cause he admits to it." I could give you a long list of complications of non-indicated HGH use. But, I really don’t have the time. Why don’t you just do an online search of the side effects of HGH. You might want to start by reading about a condition known as acromegaly, then go from there. While you’re at it, you should probably also educate yourself on the side effects of anabolic steroid use. Both classes of hormones have deleterious effects on heart, liver, joints, tendons, cholesterol and glucose levels, blood pressure, prostate health. Just for starters. Basically, they dramatically shorten your life.
@@mattp422 I hope I never end up in your office then because you obviously don’t understand context. This whole series is about debunking people that claim “natty” when they’re actually on a stack (usually to sell followers some sort of “miracle” product). Rogan does not do this. If you had gone and done YOUR research, then you would see that he does his hgh under a doctor’s supervision and is blood tested regularly. Also, as a physician, people like YOU are the ones prescribing fentanyl. So you of all people should know that it’s not ok, but yet you’re putting people down that road. Do opiates shorten people’s lives? They do. Far more dramatically than hgh use if I had to guess. But can some people take opiates under a doctor’s care and be fine? Yes. So it’s no different than someone responsibly taking HRTs. Good day

GurraGaming we are around the same height and I’m only 30 pounds from that, I’m cutting fat as we speak. 2300 calories. I’m not going for tremendous muscle gains not really my style. All I’m saying is Joe Rogan isn’t in top tier competitive shape at this point he exercises to compensate. We both know the compensate for that much mass has to be a fuck ton.
GurraGaming we have a similar body structure where the fat, since we’re stockier, gathers at the stomach and thighs and shoulders. If I was trying to power lift again I could hit 200 no issue but we smart nowadays and I only small weights and corrective exercises
Facts. But the main reason I didn't go that route is because I heard as a child that this makes you package small. 🤣 So since then I wouldn't even consider getting close to growth hormone etc etc

@salty chip Sure, a single anecdote is not definitive proof, but it still establishes that it was effective in at least one case, and that's not 'nothing'. (Perhaps it should've just been worded differently.) There is, however, numerous cases of people having very positive results from a Ketogenic diet. Now I'm not suggesting that it's the best option for everyone. Because people have different reactions to different types of diets, it may not be ideal for you personally. @salty chip Can count me in, I & my body was falling to bits. I even believed I would be using a wheel chair some time in the future. Not a cure, but I’d say an 80% improvement so I’m able to function again. I’d encourage him to look into it, sir.
Actually it is true. My dad has been diabetic for many many years and doesn’t look like this. The issue is when you abuse insulin, not just use it. Everyone uses insulin as their body makes it unless you have diabetes.
Some of this advice is incorrent. Insulin resistance happens just 4 hours after eating high fat meals. Excess fat in the muscle breaks down into toxic substances that block insulin receptors meaning tbat insulin doesn't get realeased into the blood so blood sugar doesn't lower. Also with high fat meals it slows intestinal movement increasing the total fat and carbs getting in the blood. Correlation doesn't mean causation.

I've looked for the answer to this question for years... thanks so much for this video. I was very overweight for over a decade then lost 50+ lbs and actually got below 10% body fat, but my stomach always sticks out. Some of it is APT, but I've worked on that with exercise and the bubble belly remains. I still drink alcohol, even though I otherwise avoid simple carbs. I am wondering if I were to cut out alcohol, watched my carbs, and did 18-hour intermittent fasting how long it would take to reset.....?
Depends on your genetics dude. Cutting booze may work and try it for sure but some people have more fat cells then others. Even if they means fat cells around your organs giving you that bloated look. I have knowticed the carnivore diet works for alot of people of European decent but everyone is diffrent.
Look into celiac disease. It is why people do the gluten free diet. It will give you a distended abdomen because your immune system is causing inflammation in the small intestine. I have it. Easy fix is a gluten free diet. I dropped 25 pounds in about two months, all water weight. That was 17 years ago. I’m 168 at 5’9” with an athletic build better at age 47 than I had at 25.
Look at diets relative to blood types, never thought about this until recently. There is lots of info, just need to know your blood type. Hope this helps.
do a carnivore diet. cut out the carbs and fats (you can have a small amount of fats to substitute the lack of carbs) and you will see your insulin levels stabilize and will notice no mid day insulin crashes after meals. You might feel hungry but you're not. Drink water and you're energy level wont crash. Also cut the alcohol, its the fourth macro nutrient that has no benefit to your body and is detrimental to your muscle growth. Its just counter intuitive to your goals.
That was a weigh in from a weight loss challenge. He cut out carbs for a month and it was completely gone. Some people just still have abs when they’re fat. I do
Hmm..Since seing the recent pictures of him and watching his podcast his noticeably aged alot in the face. I've been working out since I was 12 and I'mm 44. I definitely know when a guy has a bubble gut from GH and he certainly does. I mean just look at Stallone's face even with the plastic surgery his nose and head are twice the size they were in the 80's which was his best look. I'm not gonna lie I've used steroids but I wouldn't touch GH and insulin with a 10 foot pole. I prefer the class BB look oh the 70's and 80's.
Joe eats a lot! he said two servings for each meal. 2 breakfasts , two lunches , two dinners , so the swollen stomache could be due to high calorie intake , -food , maybe bloating or gas. Guy in the comments mentioned focusing on making a vacuum btwn stomach and spine when doing most any exercises but especially core exercises. A lot of people don’t. I’m not sure but i think it’s a pretty easy fix but I feel like Joe doesn’t care as much about looks or aesthetics as he used to. More about feeling healthy and strong
After an adult has "finished growing naturally," HGH causes unnatural growing, and doesn't know what to grow and what not to grow. Hence, you will see face bone structure grown, increasing in shoe size (yes), bulging of the stomach, which is a bad trend in bodybuilding these days (unfortunately). I'm a fan of Joe. PS: my wife gets that "extended look," once a month. 🤣
@Andrew Spliffilin nuts ill let my friend know... but what if its to small to find a vain. are there other areas to inject it... my friend would definitely wanna know.
Great explanation of bubble gut however it has to be recognised that middle age spread and age related insulin resistance is also a naturally occurring phenomenon. Perhaps there is e little of both factors at play in many of these cases. Perhaps coupled with adrenal damage etc..
I know you said this isn’t reversible, but would fasting effect this symptom in any way? There’s some research that suggests fasting resets the insulin levels.
I have type 1 diabetes and gastroparesis as a complication. Over the years I have developed a bubble gut I feel is inconsistent with the rest of my body. Your analysis strikes me as correct. Sorry if my spelling isn't the best.

A better way to make the point you were trying to make would be: "Growth Hormone is known to cause insulin resistance and this could have contributed to his diagnosis of diabetes and the abdominal obesity, or "bubble gut" that you see here."
Qualifications: I'm a British hospital physician who's worked in diabetes clinics.
Well said. Facts
I didn’t get the diabetic neuropathy aspect here but I think you are ignoring that Joe, and the other bodybuilders here have visible abs no matter how big there stomachs get. That is NOT typical obesity.
I"m 41 now and all of a sudden half the food that exists does this to me. No growth hormone needed.
Matt Gallagher at 48 I have the same problem lol. Or maybe it’s the beer.
@Aaron Neville
Hi Joe
Sounds like you just have a gut. Joe has a six pack jacked torso with a protruding gut..... That's not normal
Ironic that HGH usage eventually makes a person look WORSE.
Hgh isn’t just to retain muscle. He takes it for a lot of reasons.

One small quibble: When you say, "I’m not trying to say it’s bad or anything…". Yeah, I think you are saying it’s bad, and I agree 100%. Bravo for shining the spotlight the biochemical and physiological negatives of HGH abuse!
Why is it bad? Rogan admits to his GH and test usage and he isn’t actively competing in any sanctioned sports. So how is it bad?
@@stevenmoore3381 Why is it bad?? You think that taking a dangerous medication isn’t "bad" to the person doing the self-medicating because they admit to it? As a physician, I must say that isn’t what first comes to mind when hearing about people taking this class of drugs. Your comment is akin to saying, "hey, I know a guy who shoots up Fentanyl, but it’s okay ‘cause he admits to it."
I could give you a long list of complications of non-indicated HGH use.
Yes. @@andrewj1216 Not true
Are you type 1, or type 2? And what exactly are you disagreeing with in terms of what he’s saying?
Some of this advice is incorrent. Insulin resistance happens just 4 hours after eating high fat meals. Excess fat in the muscle breaks down into toxic substances that block insulin receptors meaning tbat insulin doesn't get realeased into the blood so blood sugar doesn't lower. Also with high fat meals it slows intestinal movement increasing the total fat and carbs getting in the blood. Correlation doesn't mean causation.

Try carnivore!
do a carnivore diet. cut out the carbs and fats (you can have a small amount of fats to substitute the lack of carbs) and you will see your insulin levels stabilize and will notice no mid day insulin crashes after meals. You might feel hungry but you're not. Drink water and you're energy level wont crash. Also cut the alcohol, its the fourth macro nutrient that has no benefit to your body and is detrimental to your muscle growth. Its just counter intuitive to your goals.

It's not natural though, it's bcs of the western diet.
Is adrenal damage related to bubble gut?

That's all good, it's very reversible 💪🏾
Joe Rogan is exactly the kind of guy who would think that HGH is "anti-aging" and take it regularily.
harizotoh7 yea he does he just calls it testosterone replacement .... He talks about it on his show all the time
@@pjmac550355 hgh has zero to do with trt. Why not research before speaking on a topic?
pjmac550355 what he’s talking about is a real thing it’s TRT. He’s just saying he’s taking testerone which is just as bad.
@@BaronVonBielski testosterone is bad? Do you ppl ever actually read and educate yourselves before speaking?
@@stephen8996 do you? Like honestly.
im sitting here eating doritos and clicked on this to make me feel better about my gut
I know you said this isn’t reversible, but would fasting effect this symptom in any way?
There’s some research that suggests fasting resets the insulin levels.
Jamie: pull up that research

I have type 1 diabetes and gastroparesis as a complication. Over the years I have developed a bubble gut I feel is inconsistent with the rest of my body. Your analysis strikes me as correct. Sorry if my spelling isn't the best.
My dad has type 2, he is very muscular, you can literally see his calf veins and biceps even tho he 57 year old but he has a huge bubble gut. I guess that’s because of his insulin issues
@@arbaaztorgal689 you just basically described me only diffirence im 33😂
Take GH to make the rest of your body fit with your gut lol
Literally said he had a gut and was the fattest he’s been in a while.
Nah you can tell it's his organs pushing his abs forward not just some fat over the abs
Didn’t know Joe Rogan’s boyfriend was here!
Destroyer He’s admitted to using HGH and TRT, it’s no secret. Look up his podcast with Russell Brand.
