The Clayton Supercharger is a huge game changer for people going between CO-TX. Thanks to the Ranch Market for supporting it, too bad they weren't open when you passed through. Now we just need one through Monument Valley linking CO to the Grand Canyon. Been watching your Goodyear videos so far, cool setup they have there.
It’s terrible that Kayenta has been taken off the updated supercharger map. We on the West Slope could really use that option other than Tuba City wall connector.

As someone who lives in the Amarillo Area, it was really cool to see the local Supercharger, especially since there are only a couple dozen Tesla owners in the area. It is in a really good location, except sadly the movie theater behind it closed down permanently last year, but still there are a ton of good restaurants around it, glad you guys stopped by!

You’ve gotta keep a spray bottle of bug cleaning windshield cleaner and a squeegee. Nice videos but your road footage could be nicer with some cleaner windshields.

I'm considering a Model 3 Long Range Edition next year. Holding on for the new battery type, tax credit law to hopefully pass and for inventory to readily available.
It's nice to see that in the performance version and SR+, which are their two lowest range versions, you can do abroad trip going well over 500 miles and not worry about Range anxiety.
Another thing making these trips doable in an EV is the cars ability to route you to a charger without running out of charge as well as being able to use auto pilot and lane keep assist to avoid swerving and fatigue.
I think you should rename your car to "Bug Slayer" :-)

Kyle, love your videos, but you need to do something about the B-roll footage. Typically, you're driving through one of the most beautiful states and all I see is the bugs graveyard on your windshield. Maybe you can securely mount a go pro outside the car? That, along with a gimbal and a mic wind muff on your phone will really improve the production value of this amazing content

I agree with you about west Texas asphalt. It's like riding on a gravel road loosely tied together with tar. Noisy ride on that rough textured pavement, and wears the crap out of a set of tires.
Makes for shitty range too. Our MX Raven was hitting mid 600’s wh/m going 85.

have you ever thought about cleaning the windshield?
Many of the TX roads are “chip sealed”. Basically, they spray a layer of tar, and then roll gravel into it. Kind of like a gravel road, only more stable.
There’s a Goodyear commercial tire dealer in Phoenix, as I recall, who does tire recapping on premises. I got to tour the operation, and it was actually pretty interesting, all of the different steps and checks the tire has to go through.
The condition of the front windshield indicates that it is either against the law to clean windows, or window cleaning fluid is a federally regulated illegal substance..
Or they aren't available at superchargers like they are at gas stations.
Sucks that the GY supercharger isn’t open to the public. I know a lot of people were looking forward to the San Angelo supercharger before Tesla axed it from their coming soon list.
Really wish they would set up a little picnic area outside the tire track with a fresh set of V3’s. This is a very desired charger along with Lubbock, Roswell, and College Station (would also love an east Austin SC by the toll bypass)

Is it a source of pride that you never clean your windshield? That would drive me crazy.
If you scaped off the 50 pounds of bugs you might not have to use the Clayton Supercharger, but you would have to do it every 20 minutes so probably not worth it. 😝

I use a wheelchair and I’m planning to get a Tesla Model X in a few weeks. I was wondering if you have seen any disabled drivers on your roadtrips. Also, I was hoping that you could help advocate for a wheelchair accessible Tesla model. Seems like a wheelchair ramp van would be very feasible.

Imteresting. That’s the route I use from Houston to Vail in our ICE car. I’ve always thought about taking the Tesla but it required going through Kansas for that reason. Nice to know!
Also, if you are too tired to make it to Trinidad CO, the Holiday Inn Express in Raton NM is a good stop and pretty decent.

So, model 3 has a crossbar above the B pillar but non for the rear seat? It seems to be a better design than the Model Y. I tested a model y and the rear seat headroom is small. As I lean my head back, I hit the crossbar behind my head (I'm 6'2).

Does tesla or will tesla have a option to set when to warm battery in morning? So lets say your leaving around 8, and car will prewarm battery before then.

Since the Supercharger is unlisted do you still have to pay for it since when you Supercharge it displays the location of the Supercharger in you bill
If I did frequent road trips I'd definitely buy a tesla. The charging experience is world's better than it is for the rest of us.

Charging on your Tesla road trips seems a lot more seamless than the Porsche and others. Seems like the other suppliers and car manufacturers need to step up their game.

oh, nevermind. probably shutter artifact not a blinking light, weird they weren't in sequence though.

Hey Kyle - how did you find the backseat of the M3 on those long legs?
As I watch your leapfrogging about, I am wondering if I could adjust to the EV journey tempo of regular short breaks or whether the 400 mi ICE blitzkrieg is still preferred.
It seems that EV recharging adds about 15% to transit time.
I generally prefer the EV style. I like to drink Monsters and they sail right through me, so I need to stop to pee every now and then anyways. Plus, I don't like to sit for very long.
It's fairly uncommon for me to actually have to stop and wait for the car on road trips, it's usually ready by the time I'm ready to get back on the road after a pee break or a snack/meal.
The question is more.. how often do you road trip? For most drivers, it's the daily commute to work and running errands that constitutes 95% of the driving we do. Home charging erases any stops for gas.

You can drive 3 hours, charge for 30 minutes. If you're traveling with a couple kids, it's pretty hard to make any kind of stop that's much less. You think you only stop for 5 minutes for refueling, but in real-world road trip times, it often ends up being pretty close to a decent charge stop.
@@steinwaymodelb I don't own one. Only watching videos to judge if I can tolerate the change. Almost everyone making videos seems to use an app to plan lots of short jumps, not 180 mile segments with a longer stops.
My only personal point of comparison was a recent 400 mile ICE journey. It took ~ 6 5 hours including a ~ 30 - 45 min break. The return leg was ~ 6 hours with one quick gas stop.
A kind Tesla reader calculated for me that a 2013 Model S 70kWr would do the trip in 3 stops taking an additional 30 -45 minutes each way at about 1/2 the cost.
What's Kyle's favorite place to stay on his road trips? I'll make note of it for my next trip.

You should get an Optimum No Rinse sponsorship. It just melts bugs off while they're fresh. Great for trips.

I’ve driven my 2021 3LR AWD 4,351 miles in 30 days since delivery all over NC and VA. It’s completely brilliant! Next up, cross country.
Don't get scared about winter tires blowing. My college friend, once upon a time, many many blue moons ago, got so lazy that he drove winter tires until end of May. Car was fine.
