- Eddie Cochran Rock and Roll Siknger Crash Site and Place of Passing.
Eddie Cochran was an American rock and roll musician.
Eddie Cochran's songs, such as "Twenty Flight Rock", "Summertime Blues", "C'mon Everybody" and "Somethin' Else", captured teenage frustration and desire in the mid-1950s and early 1960s. He experimented with multitrack recording, distortion techniques, and overdubbing even on his earliest singles. He played the guitar, piano, bass, and drums.[1] His image as a sharply dressed and attractive young man with a rebellious attitude epitomized the stance of the 1950s rocker, and in death he achieved iconic status.

Hello, Elizabeth I enjoy getting in the zone as they say before I do the film I just like the people and fine them intersting. Thank you Alan
One of the most influential, and important musicians in history, sensitivitly remember, nice one..👏
ENJOYED THAT,HE WAS MY FIRST MUSIC HERO AND I COLLECTED ALL HIS LPs DURING 1960,STILL GOT THEM,RYE
I was born in Bath and grew up not far from Chippenham Wiltshire, back in the 70s it was local knowledge about Eddie Cochran being killed, however I was told it was on Dauntsey bend which was a and probably still is a notorious crash site. So thanks for clarifying that for me after 40+ years! Great to see you back out thanks so much love the new content, going to sleep now it's midnight in Sydney!!
Hello Tracy, how fantastic that! I'm reaching Australia but I can see that this text you back to your roots so it must be nice, particularly for you to know the true story and see some of the old stomping ground. Thank you, Alan
This is CRAZY!!! I grew up in Chippenham and that's the story I heard too (or maybe it was Pusham), but later found the true story, after leaving Chippenham (1971),I moved to Bath, not a hundred yards from St. Martins....I'm off to there tomorrow! Thank you Alan for putting me wise!
Great video loved Eddie great singer and musician remember when he died and thought what a loss so young and so gifted
Wonderful job on this video. Thank you. Most of you do not know but Eddie’s nephew, Bobby’s beautiful daughter, Bree, lost her life in a car crash on April 17, 1999. She was also 21. Very sad. I have a feeling Eddie met her at the gates of heaven. 🙏😍🙏🙏❤️❤️
Thank you Susan for that information. It was very interesting but house take care Alan
Such a sad story 😢 very tragic 💔 thank you for sharing this story Alan
And also thank you, Maria ☺️
Welcome back Alan great to see you back you’ve been a miss x
Thank you, Maureen, look after yourself
Nice to see you back Alan. I was too young to remember Eddie Cochrane but do know some of his songs. Such a tragic end to his life when he was obviously so talented and would have been up there with the other greats. Fortunately the music still plays on and brings back many memories for some of us to cherish.
Hi Joys much love to you for your comment glad you liked Eddie he was something else :-)
Nice tribute video to Eddie thanks Alan 👍 he left this world way to young 💔 but his talent and music will live forever 🎶🎶🎸🎸 safe travels on your journeys good to see you back
Alan, I love your channel and the way you touch the headatones and thank them for their talents to pay your respects. Eddie's monument is very cleverly designed... Three Steps to Heaven! Best to luck for the future, Alan..See you soon.
That is very encouraging of you. It makes the channel feel worthwhile when people put such nice comments. Look after yourself. Alan
Thank you for this, Eddie was my `first love when I was 13 years old`. I named one of my daughter`s Sharon after his girlfriend. I am still his number one fan. I remember the day that I heard that he had passed. Rest in Peace Eddie. xxx
Hello silver stars, well, that's wonderful that you're such a big fan. Did you hear the story about them? Working up in a panic in the hotel. Screaming and the manager came to him and he told the guy he thought he had a premonition of his death which happened the following year. I believe that's really weird. Glad you enjoyed it. Been such a big admirer. Thank you Alan
@@MotorHomeBeepBeep I watched the Sharon Sheeley interview about Eddie, also I have a couple of books about Eddie as well. I want to say that you have done a great video, thank you. x
I still have an original of the only album released while he was alive singing to my baby
I was not born when Eddie was killed but I knew all about him growing up through my dear old dad he was the same age as him at the time. His music was great he was so talented gone to soon thank you Alan 👏👏💜
It must bring back nice memories of your dad. Lovely
A great video Alan, as always, and presented beautifully by you. I didn't know much about Eddie, if anything, but I enjoyed your summary of his tragically short life. Nice to see you back Alan and I look forward to many more. Thank you.
Hello Louise, that is very sweet of you. I do genuinely enjoy making the films in every respect and sometimes it becomes very enveloping but it's nice especially when people like you enjoy. Thank you. See you in the future. Regards, Alan
C,on everybody great to see Alan back thumbs 👍, great story ❤
Come on at Ben I want you with my publicity agent how much will it cost me? But the best and funniest thing is I've got one thumbs up :-))))))) thank you friend, I appreciate. Regards, Alan
The lyrics on the three steps of the first monument are from the song “Three Steps To Heaven”, not from the song “Cherished Memories”.
Thank you, Alan, for bring us the story of the tragic passing of Eddie Cochran,
It was my pleasure. Craig
Good to see you back Alan 😊
Thank you very much Alan
Hi Alan really appreciate all the time and effort you put into making your videos i was 9 when he died always loved his music like all good music it never dies looking forward to your next video 👍❤
Hello! Net that's really super to hear that. I can imagine being nine years old. You could remember it so well. It makes me very pleased that you enjoyed the time and in a sad way Eddie going was big news. All these years later he's still popular. Thank you for your insight to the time. Regards, Alan
Thanks Alan for this tribute - I remember hearing about the crash on the news when I was 13 - I have a greatest hits album and on it my favourite song of his was 'Cut Across Shorty'.
Nice to see you back Alan and bringing this remarkable tribute he was such a talented person and its so sad that he died at a young age and with all that talent
Well done Alan Thank you very much for bringing this video and well researched
i can only say everything is beautiful for me today because of your comment Thank you Alan

Brilliant, well researched and very interesting. Cant believe he was only 21, so sad. Thank you for leaving the flower, totally agree with you about cut flowers, well done!!💖
Thank you, Andrea it does seem was cut off in his prime. Which is what would happen if I put the live flower 🌹 thank you for the great comment. Regards, Alan
Great video Alan nice to see your back on the road again👍
Thanks for putting this video up I remember this I was fifteen at the time and lived in Chippenham sad that he had to go so young.
Yes, it must have been big news at the time I'm not surprised you remembered. Thanks Alan
Good to see you Alan, I really enjoyed the video, such a short life and tragic end and he’s still remembered in 2023 because we loved his music. He was a lovely man. Glad you’ve got a lovely new motor home too. Take care. Joan.
Hello Joan, it's lovely to see you again and thank you for your uplifting comments. Yes, I've got a little luxury now. Regards, Alan
Gene Vincent and Eddie Cochrane I remember so well in 1960 I was 12 so sad. All very familiar names to me and I played them on my portable record player, $10,000 was a lot then. Lovely memorial.
I enjoyed hearing of his life you put it over brilliantly thank you bless so very young to pass ❤ he sounded a very caring person RIP Eddie ❤
Thank you June it did cinema extremely down to earth. Nice young man! All the best, Alan
@@MotorHomeBeepBeep what was the documentary you saw I’d like to see that would you mind sending the link? Please thanks in advance if yer do 👍😊
Eddie Cochran was way head of his time wrote his own songs also could play the Drums if he had lived he would of wrote songs for other people such an iconic singer his songs will live forever he was that good Jimi Hendrix had Eddie Cochran songs played at his funeral he was one of Jimi Hendrix idol's. From a Teddy Boy 🎶🎼📻🎶🎼
Awww❤ love his music this is so sad keep rocking ❤
This was a very informative history, and wonderfully presented. I never knew this, that Eddie, even in the most traumatic and stressful seconds of his young life, thought FIRST to shield his girlfriend from the harm he had to know was coming. That speaks volumes about what kind of a man he was.
Thank you my friend. It was a very loving thing Eddie did in those final moments. All the best, Alan
My wife's from Eddie's home town of Albert Lea, Minnesota and he remains a legend there. (The other big celebrity from AL is Marion Ross, of Happy Days. )
In fact, the whole twon celebrates Eddie Cochran Days every summer. Sometimes my brother in law gets out his vintage Chevy and drives in the parade.
Hello Alan, thank you for the upload, very enjoyable as always sir 👍
Hello John, it's great to see you again. Thank you, Alan
Great to see you back Alan. Brightened a rainy Sunday afternoon. What an interesting story and so sad too. But look at what he achieved in such a short life. A true star! Beautiful memorials to him also. My heart goes out to you in your grief for Pauline. I know what grief is like I miss my sweetheart and our adventures so very much. Sounds like you and I were blessed with wonderful people to share our lives with. Happy trails look forward to your next video.
Hi NMGThank you so much! It's been a tough 6 months but I'm finally in a better place. Thank you for the wonderful comments as always, you're a superstar subscriber 😊 a superstar subscriber. Thanks, Alan

My grandad was the guy who found him, my Nan looked after his girlfriend too just after the crash. They had amazing memories of that night.
They were interviewed and it was on UA-cam, I’m desperately trying to find it again.
Great to see you back Alan .... Entertaining, informative and poignant!...,.👍
Hello Roger, I know it's a long time ago but yes it was so talented. You always think what would have been. Regards Alan
Brilliant well done
Hi Alan trust you are well I remember hearing the namme Eddie Cochran thanks for sharing
Great video Alan never knew he died in the UK . 💖
Hi Tricia nice that you found it interesting .
Hi Alan glad to see you back mate.
Hi WV and me to you Thanks Mate
I saw Eddie Cochran at an amazing show in Leeds in the sixties, he died a few weeks later,so sad
he is buried at
Forest Lawn Memorial Park
Cypress, Orange County, California, USA
That's absolutely correct my older brother & myself visited his grave on a trip to the U.S & Canada around 20 yrs ago!!! His mother, father and fiancee Sharon Sheely are buried either side of him!!! It's a beautiful spot!
great video, he died before I was born but I do know his music, thank you look forward to the next one x
Hi Debra Yes, it was a short time frame but he produced some timeless rock and roll. Thank you, Alan
Hi Alan, finally registered with you tube. Liked and subscribed to your channel
Very well done. I hope I can make an interesting 😀
really good video, thanks
A lovely Heartfelt tribute ,Alan . I still have many of his songs on the London label . Some of my favourite songs include ; Jeanie Jeanie , A pocket full of Hearts , and , Cut across Shorty .
Yes I remeber tem all also thaks Bas :-)

Good one Alan. Your vids are so intetesting.
Many thanks! Lynne
he was great him and buddy holly
In my opinion Eddie would have become the king of rock & roll with elvis second to him
You mentioned how good a guitar player he was, he was the influence for the song by Heinz Just like Eddie
Hi Alan, great to see you back 😊 Although he passed before I was born, I obviously know his name. I do admit to having to look up what he sang. Such a horrible way to go, especially at such a young age and in a foreign country. A beautiful memorial for him, that was a lovely thing for those people to do. I do hope you are keeping well and enjoying your new motor home. Thank you for sharing this, take care of yourself, drive safely and I look forward to your next video ❤
Hi Karin Yes it what's a tragedy in? Its to his sense but the way thing whilst that when he was 20 he woke up screaming in an hotel and the manager came to him and he said I won't live very long. It was a premonition. I should have mentioned that in the video. Thank you for the great comment Alan
@@MotorHomeBeepBeep OMG a premonition? eek 😲. You hear about famous people having those. Scary stuff.
@@Karin- :-( scary
I never knew that he was only a kid , that's really sad of such a talented person , it's more or less the same with buddy Holly as well , it makes you think what he could have created if he would of lived such a shame 😭🎸🙏🇺🇲 Thank you Alan your dear close friend always Rod 🎸🙏🥁🤘💐 I noticed on Eddie's memorial it's got three steps after his famous song three steps to Heaven 🙏🙏 Alan 😭😇
He wrote 3 steps to heaven and then went and killed himself! Like it was a prelude to his death.
@@martincook2074 no it was a fatality of a Road accident of the taxi crash !! not of his own accord get it correct information about this please 😭😭😭🙏🇺🇲🇺🇲 Rest in eternal peace forever 🙏🙏💔🇺🇲
Hello Rodney I agree. It's very probable. He would have been the biggest star at 21 it's a shame. But regarding the three steps, I think that the order is incorrect with the lyrics, but never mind. The intention was good. It's a great celebration of his life. Be happy my friend. Alan
@@MotorHomeBeepBeep Thank you my close friend Alan ya west Yorkshire Mate Rod 🎸🥁👑🇬🇧🙏😎
I was 14yr old when this wonderful young man was killed. I loved his songs so much, and was just so sad when we learned he had been killed in a car crash. I often thought of what he would have become, a huge continuing sucess. I also thought of how his poor dear mother and father were just devastated and, hurt the rest of their lives. Their all together in Heaven now with our Wonderful Lord Jesus to comfort them forever.
Thank you Sir for this video.
What's a sad memory for you at such young age? It was terribly unfortunate for a man with such a bright future head. But thank you for your recollections Alan
The memorial has been smartened up since I was last there. It was level with the ground on the verge with a car's wheel resting on it!
Eddy Cochran. Another Rock and Roll casualty.
Hi Alan great content back in the day I bought an l p record album from a vintage record store in north London called Eddie Cochran memorial album and the price was 1.50 unbelieavable labelled by unplayed best album I ever bought
HI LB Is not fascinating that you've got such a priceless personal possession that cost so little super! i buy it from you for 2.50 :-) Take care
He blazed a trail that still resonates 63 years on.
Absolutely! Jason
You mention David Harman (Dave Dee), Upon leaving school he became a police cadet with the Wiltshire Constabulary and as such was one of the first on the scene of the April 1960 car crash that resulted in the death of Eddie Cochran and serious injury to Gene Vincent. He later recounted that he started learning to play the guitar using Cochran's impounded Gretsch over several nights at the station. According to Wikipedia. Great video.
Thank you, David. It makes you wonder if he hadn't attended that actual event which was obviously very traumatizing for a new policeman he might never have become a pop singer on guitarist. Who knows. It seems a little bit coincidental that there was no connection. Thank you, Alan
Hi Alan, I’ve long wanted to visit this memorial, and today I did so, (16/10/23) and i was glad I did. Eddie was such a great performer. Looking around whilst at the site, you can just picture the event itself, unfolding! So very sad. Thanks for your video, they are so informative and well narrated. 👍
I do believe that the taxi driver lost his licence for 15 years and was prosecuted for dangerous driving
They was let he made a mistake but you would think he would have been punished he did cause death.
We all know this anyone who was a fan would nothing new here !!
I was barely 3 weeks old when he died , was living not that far away at that time ,the first i heard of Eddie Cocran was during the 1970s when Showaddywaddy had a big with one of his songs 3 Steps to heaven , what a talented guy and a very tragic ending so sad , much respect .
So incredibly tragic. It is so unfair and actually looking back thinking how things maybe could have changed..
Hi there very sad
Hi Sue
@@MotorHomeBeepBeep Hi Love wotch so interesting
@@MotorHomeBeepBeep Hi there
Dave Harman took Eddie’s guitar back to the police station and learned to play it. As you said he became Dave Dee.
Hello David, that's nice, thanks for the info
Ford Consul ...................tragic
The back end of the Ford Consul mk 2 was very lite. People would put two sand bags in the boot to help and make it safer.
The monument shows the ‘3 steps to Heaven’ named after one of Eddie’s songs.
She helped write some of his greater songs, without her he would have a limited song Library
Snuffed out in his prime...like mark bolan ...buddy holly...otis redding....ritchie valens..john denver .
@8.05, '3 Steps to heaven' monument
Fact : One of the Police officers who arrived Dave from Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick & Tich,
, He was a young copper. He took a guitar away from the site. It was left in the station for weeks and no one wanted it. So he had it. Years later He later gave this guitar to Marc Boland. Gene said this crash was why he started drinking heavenly which killed him.
I didn't know that the character. Dave from the pop group died of alcohol. But fascinating about the guitar and it's movements. It ended up with another tragedy in Mark Boland. Wow!
@@MotorHomeBeepBeep Gene died of alcohol
Back. Now. Where been
Hello Sue and Vic, It's always great to see you. Hope you are both ok. I watch out for you. Alan
I saw him at the finsbury pk empire a few days before his fatal crash
Wow
Yes the leaving of flowers has a strange history, its a modern for of sacrifice, back in ancient times they killed an animal or in some cases a human in respect of the dead person.
Today we kill flowers, you can put whatever spin you want on that, but it is the killing of something living to mark someone's death.
Eddie was not a big hit maker in the usa, and despite releasing records since 1956 only a few ever actually made the charts in his home country, even less so for gene vincent, both were a little more successful in Europe chart wise and represented the rocker element by the way they dressed
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Wonderful video
It wasn't an extra string...it was an unwound 3rd string
The monument ....... has 3 steps ...... to heaven of course.
Lovely video this week Alan, I didn't connect the shrine till someone commented that it had three steps like his song. Does anyone know what happened to his girlfriend? Did she go back to USA. Thanks again. Looking forward to more videos from you.
Hello Carol, Sharon did go back to America and she was in the documentary I watched. The stranger thing was that they got the lyrics out of order on the monument I think with the steps but never mind The intentions for good. Thank you, Alan
Sharon was a song-writer and quite successful. Check her out. I think she gave up music industry but came to UK (early 2000s) when the monument was erected and died shortly after. Eddie & Sharon RIP.
George Martin killed Eddie Cochran? holy hell, i didnt know that!. so, he was the fifth beatle AND the last Eddie Cochran?.... dang.
😮Sad he whent two young be at peace Mr 😂😊
Smashing guy Joe
eddie was playing with billy fury and he died on billy,s 20th brithday it was gene that wanted to go home not eddie
WHO Cocran ? :)
I touch your diffyslexia but thank you for your incouragement. I love it :-)
shame you couldn't even spell Cochran correct , surely he deserves more respect than that
I'm dyslexic but at least I try and produce a product that people love and it remembers the person with respect and love. How about you pal ? :-)
All these years I never realised that Eddie Cochran died in the UK and not the US. I wasn’t born until a good few years after but even so. Thanks for showing us all the memorials 👍🏻
I loved his songs and his voice. I never realised that he died in the UK either. So tragic and only 21. 😢
Hello Nick, exactly he was American but he was touring in the UK he felt very homesick for the USA and for his mother and the painful thing is he was on his way home that evening. Well pretty sad. Thank you, Alan,
Yes exactly I was born 4th of Feb 1958.
Very emotional your video Alan concrats..
Hi Rena keep cool and look out for small roads :-)
Without Eddie, there would be no Pete Townsend, Rod Stewart, Led Zep, Marc Bolan, or Hendrix. He was a fabulous talent who left far too early.
It speaks volumes that six decades after his premature passing, nobody had a bad word to say about him. Like James Dean, he will remain forever young.
So tragic and I did not know he passed away here in the U.K. ❤Thanks, as always, Alan.
Sheil and thank you
I'm sure I heard Joe Brown used to use a banjo string in place of the 3rd guitar string as it is slightly thicker. Eddies guitar sound is very unique. Great musician.
That's exactly it Tim Eddie had. I believe an extra string on the guitar maybe also on the banjo, but he gave him a kind of unique sound at Joe brown copied and kept it a secret. Fantastic! Thank you, Alan
As a long time guitar player myself...I also heard Eddie used a thiner B string as an E string to help with his wild Country sounding bends.... Stevie Ray Vaughan used 13 or even 15 gauge for first E.....!!...But you need hands of steel to bend THOSE....!!!!..Great video...Always Watching..!!...Best wishes from Plymouth UK..!!
I was born at that Hospital on the 21st but, my mum was admitted on the 17th & she said it was awful because all the nurses were crying as like my mum they were all fans. Ive never seen the hospital so thank you for giving me a glimpse. Ive always felt a connection to it all tbh. Great video & good to see you back x
Hello Caroline, what's a fascinating memory of that moment from your mother's perspective? They probably would be young and like you say fans and it would seem such a tragedy. You will have a connection and in your instance it was a great connection with your birth you will have a connection and in your instance, it was a great connection with your birth. All the best, Alan
@@MotorHomeBeepBeep My mum was 21 when she had me. She used to say she thought the reason I love music so much was because of what happened with him leaving & my arriving lol, she was very serious about that lol! x
P.S Beep beep is still sitting on my table waiting to ride shotgun with you!
I’ve got a Gresch guitar very similar to the one Eddie played. He was also a friend of Vince Eager who I know
Hello Cheryl, Will you certainly have got a strong connection with the guitar and Vince, maybe I'm inside stories 😀
His song 3 steps to heaven went to no 1 straight after his death
Well wasn't that a little chilling? He was a nice guy I'm think all was well
