The biggest compliment i can pay Marc Bolan and T Rex is that 50 years on from his peak there is literally no other artist that sounds like him, literally unique.

I lived just round the corner to this memorial for a couple of years in around 2012 and it was continuously visited by people leaving trinkets, photos, memorial messages or just paying respects. At the anniversary of his death there would be an abundance of memoribilia, flowers and items laid around. There was never a time when you felt it was getting less significant which really brought home to me the importance and love of Marc Bolan the character and his music. Living there I drove over that bridge many a time and I could see how you could easily lose control if going at some speed, especially in a small car like a mini. Marc Bolan never learned to drive since apparently, he had a fear that he would die in a car! Taken long before his time......

Thank you, you did a really nice job with this video. It's a lovely tribute. I think Marc would like that the crash site, despite being the scene of the tragedy - has been maintained as a beautiful place of remembrance. It isn't a sad, depressing place - it's actually serene. It's no longer the dark place where Marc died, it's now a garden in which to celebrate that he lived. If any trace of Marc's spirit still remains there, I'm sure he appreciates the care that has been put into the memorial - and all the visitors! :)
I like to think he knows how much people miss him still. He had a short life, but he certainly made an impression. He is still very much loved.

As Zeus said in his comment, very respectfully done. I was not aware of the memorial so thanks for bringing it to my attention. My cousin was a huge Marc Bolan and T-Rex. Every time my brother and sister visited my Aunt and Uncle with our parents, the three of us would be ushered up to Paul’s bedroom to listen to the latest T-Rex album on his portable record player! I was never into any singer / band it that way and only ever bought one T-Rex single, ‘Metal Guru’. That aside, there is no doubt that Marc Bolan was among the greats of the 70’s music scene and like many people of the day, I was shocked to wake up to the news of Marc’s death. Had he not been tragically killed, I’m sure he would have remained a huge influence on the pop music scene for many, many years and May well have found a new audience in later life like so many icons of the 70’s have done. R.I.P. Marc Bolan.

Marc Bolan died on this day 16th sept 1977 RIP Marc we loved you. We moved a few years after and often wonder what the new owners thought when they stripped that wallpaper off. Metal Guru! Pure genius. As a teenager of the 70s Marc was almost a mythical creature. Only a month before sitting on a beach in Spain on my very last holiday with my parents I had read that Elvis had died so a bad couple of months. There's a strong simmetry between Marc Bolan and Rino Gaetano: they both were folk musician revolutionary, they both died very young in a car accident in the main town of their own country, they used to dress colorfull and were absolutely talented musicians and lyrics writers, they both have a memorial in the spot they died in London and Rome.
Rino died in the early eighties and unfortunatelly he recorded just 3 albums but his music is still play today in Italy and you can resognize his scratchy voive among a million.
Great video love Marc and the T REX

Remember the Marc Bolan show, was with his friend David Bowie, this was in 1977, some of the Granada staff were on strike, and they to film quickly. While rehearsing, Marc fell off stage. I think Bowie said something which he later regretted, something about Marc's death. They had recorded some basic tracks in Bowie's hotel room, (I think)? Either way Marc was coming back into the limelight, after touring with the punk bands. He died so young R.I.P., Marc love your music, you were one of a kind!

Saw Marc at wembley on March 18th 1972 as well as Brixton Sundown [thats what is was called then]. His last home was not far from where he was killed in Upper Richmond road. Steve periguine took is buried at kensal green. Can you do a film of that please. I love your you tube channel .The format is brilliant and so informative. Thank you for bringing such wonderful people back to life..

Taken too soon, I lived in Putney just off the lower Richmond road just up from where the crash was, I remember watching his show on tv, everything so vivid just like it was yesterday.

been there a few times over the years to pay my respects. Lots of freaky coincedences about his death, I'm sure he had a lyric that mentions peeling foxes from a tree and the car registration had FOX in it and also i'm sure he had a painting of a tree called 16 September which is the day he died. There is also an interview he did with either Russell Harty or Parkinson where he predicts he wont live that long or past 30 or something and ended up dying a few days before his 30th birthday

      @the last guitar...
about year ago someone replied in a comment
      to check out the picture
      on the cover of
      Supertramp album, Breakfast in America,
picture illustrates / is a view from inside a plane & Iooking out the window
mid-air over the statue of liberty, represented
      by a breakfast waitress
with a menu in her left hand & a holding a plate high aloft in her right,
serving up a tall glass of orange juice in front of the world trade center, at approximate level of the impacts...
right over the towers hovers the name SUPERTRAMP,
      with the U & P
just on top of the towers,
with the bottom of the U obscured a bit behind the towers,
      now,
if u hold the picture up to a mirror the letters touching the tower will
      spell out 911...
the album came out in 1979,
      what tf?
      Edit:
the glass of orange juice in the picture triggered a memory i didn't know i had, which state is known for orange juice?
      Florida...
      so i looked it up,
      yep,
the highjackers who flew both planes attended flight school in Florida.

Dont know if he actually had any premonitions about his death but that year one of his songs on the album 'dandy in the underworld' included the lyrics "summer's gonna be heaven in 77'. Some fans also thought it was symbolic that the last shot from the 'Marc' tv series that went out a week before he died was of him falling off a raised platform he was standing on next to david bowie.

Really enjoyed you telling us all about Marc, I loved his music. And his wild ways. Seeing where he died and the monument were beautiful. This is what I expected when you see other Actors actresses etc Graves with just few words and looking drab. So this has to be for me, one of the best. Thank you Paul xx

I been there in late seventies.the site looks completely different.I took some seed from the tree and planted it back home in the garden at the time.being fan since white swan, you brought the early albums etc.still like the beard of star album.love the early poetic lyrics.so innocent .today people and media make him out to be the glam pop star.no credit of his writing and guitar sounds.the early b side just as good as the A…boogie on …thanks for the video.

    Thank you generously, Paul.
Summer 1970. Usher Hall, Edinburgh. 19-year-old me. Marc Bolan's Tyrannosaurus Rex gigging, support act for Ten Years After.
Marc & Co. open with some acoustic numbers, including 'Ride A White Swan' and 'Debora'. Second half of their set: Marc plays a white Stratocaster, flashing out to the audience with reflections/bursts from *very strong* spotlights. He played *ELECTRIC LOUD* via TYA's mighty rig. Unforgettable.
    Rest In Peace, Marc. 💚
    All the best, P. Stay free. Rab 🍻 😎 ⏳ 🎲 🌠

I remember the Glam Rock era and used to watch Mark Bolans tv show and have memories of Marc Bolan and David Bowie having a good time in and around London wearing their Glamourous clothes which attracted the attention of everyone in them days. R.I.P. Two Legends.

77 was a sad year. The month before we lost Elvis, then our Marc. The tree was made unsafe by the fans, taking the bark or carving their names into it. (Who could blame them). Didn't help with fast traffic on a narrow road. I was gutted they cut the tree down.
