For the frogs situation: you don't get to start dating someone who has an interest or a hobby or pets and then tell them that you don't like that thing so they have to compromise for you. If you don't like something, that's fine, but you don't get to enter a relationship with someone who does and demand that they have to change that thing about themselves for your comfort. Keep the frogs, ditch the dude.

    • @Stettafire

I'm trying to put myself in that position. If I had four dogs all well cared for and by bf asked me to rehome 2. I'd be beyond upset, I'd be absolutely hysterical. Trying to see it from his perspective... I have a gf who has 20 spiders as pets. But, in that situation if they so generously offered to pay extra for another room to keep the spiders so I didn't have to deal with them. I'd think that was the sweetest thing, and I'd agree to pay half of the extra costs of that room. Heck, I may even offer to pay for the extra room myself since she's making that compromise for me.
Yeah, I fail to see it from his perspective really. She's already tried to compromise and I thought she was being very generous.
If I were the GF I'd probably get rid of him. If I were the BF I'd want a compromise that kept us both happy.

@@Stettafire Yeah, I think if you're getting into a relationship with somebody and that person already has 20 spiders and you hate spiders, that's on you to choose where your heart lies, not the other person. Because, at the end of the day, your home is your pet's home and if someone comes into your home and says "change this or I won't be with you" then I will not be with them. Someone else will come along who likes my 20 spiders and helps me take care of them.

For the last story: I swear some people don't know what it means to be a simp 🙄 being affectionate towards your S.O isn't being a simp lmao. The term simp is used for people that incessantly pine over someone that clearly shows no interest in them. Simp is the last thing you would call someone in a relationship where the romantic and/or sexual feelings for their S.O are reciprocated 💀😂

honestly the simp one made me kind of sad, like why do we live in a world where men showing affection is considered weird or like “unmanly” of them? even as a joke, i think it starts to become a bad habit. like i have friends who use simp jokingly (mostly) but it still used to always bother me since there shouldn’t be the world notion abt what you have to do to not be a simp and even more so, why is being a simp a bad thing?
i will say tho, if you’re a guy and your friends keep calling you a simp to the point where it actually starts to make you feel bad or feel conscious, that’s not good and you should tell them honestly that it affects you and that it’s problematic. and if they laugh and still call you a simp for admitting that, idk if you’re really friends honestly 😅 like i get jokes and making fun of each other but be conscious of when it stops being fun and it becomes hurtful
and quick note abt the frog one: honestly if you are willing to make sure that the frogs do not make life harder for him and he really does not have a genuine reason aside from “thinking they’re ugly”, honestly don’t move in with him 😂 you shouldn’t have to give up so much of smth that makes you happy for a kind of dumb reason

the word simp does have a meaning, and i quote :Simp is a slang insult for men who are seen as too attentive and submissive to women, especially out of a failed hope of winning some entitled sexual attention or activity from them. I don't get why these people are confused about that, being a decent boyfriend isn't simping 🤦‍♂️. honestly these boys should be embarrassed that they cant even understand a simple meme.

    • @messibessi11
      @messibessi11 3 роки тому +4

Right? Like what’s the retail value on a used pair of shoes? Even if they’ve only been worn once and are in spectacular condition... Probably not worth the lawsuit. I think it would make sense for him to pay some money but I think if she’s trying to do a lawsuit she would have to get a really expensive lawyer to win the case and that would without a doubt cost more than she would get for the shoes and for that reason I highly doubt that any lawyer would be willing to take this case pro Bono... if they were like million dollar shoes or something and the person was financially able to cover the damages then that’s another story. A lot of the time you need to look at what a reasonable person would expect in that situation.
Was it implicitly stated that the shoes would be safe in the entry way? Was the shoe owner doing her due diligence to ensure that her shoes were not ruined? Was it reasonable for him to assume that she would be bringing 1,200 dollar shoes to his house? Had the monetary value of the shoes come up beforehand?
I would argue that you do assume some risk when you take your shoes somewhere no matter the price for example if you go ice skating and someone steals your 10,000 shoes from the cubby where you left them it’s not typically up to the rink to pay for them because you assumed some risk by taking off your shoes and putting them into the cubby and the ice rink may be responsible to cover a reasonable amount for the loss of your shoes but at the end of the day they offer the cubby holes but do not claim they are a locker/will keep your personal belongings safe so it would be stupid to take super expensive shoes there..
but I’ve only taken a few business law classes and am def not a lawyer so I might not have a feel for the situation

About 16:38, law student’s perspective - a person is liable for the actions of their animals and, accordingly, he is indeed liable for the damage to her boots.
As she had not been to his house previously, there is no reasonable basis for her to expect that her shoes would be destroyed by his dog nor is such behaviour to be expected in the ordinary course of life. Furthermore, even if she had previously been to his house, he stated in the Reddit post that such an incident of his dog chewing up shoes has not happened in years - she would not have reasonably expected this to have occurred. Accordingly, it cannot be said that she knowingly undertook any risk for wearing her Gucci boots to his house nor should she have been afforded a lower standard of care so as to justify the dog’s behaviour and circumvent the imposition of liability on the owner.
The fact that he is unable to afford $1,200 shoes is immaterial to whether he is legally responsible for the damage caused to her boots. Otherwise, many criminals would be vindicated on the grounds that they cannot afford to compensate the damage they caused - it’s just logically inconsistent with the service of justice.
In other words, he’s gotta pay. Literally.

In reference to the young woman who’s BF was lying about being a doctor. Point of fact most hospitals in the US who have residency programs have them listed in an online directory. For example my husband is currently a resident at a large research hospital and when I googled his name and program he was the first google result. So it’s pretty easy to confirm if he’s a doctor. Big question is if the hospital he says he’s at even has a residency program. In the US they typically are only at larger public or private hospitals. That being said resident schedules can be very sporadic depending on their specialty. Also if it’s a large hospital and the if the BF is not in her uncle’s specialty he might not interact with him at all. So would definitely do some more research before confronting this guy.

As a dog owner, regardless of how much the shoes or item costs, it is the dog owners responsibility to replace whatever was destroyed by your animal. Just because they cost 1200 dollars doesn't give us to right to judge the girl that owned them just because she owned them. It is his responsibility to replace the shoes, or she can and should sue him as he was an irresponsible dog owner and should've known the possibility of any dog to chew anything regardless of how much they cost.

I agree he needs to pay her back for the shoes. It also doesn't matter where the money for them came from, they're still an investment in herself that she made and clearly, they were important to her, otherwise, she wouldn't insist that he pay her back. At the end of the day, his dog ruined her shoes, and he is responsible for the animal. Also, I wonder how they would react if it was a different expensive object, like are they judging her because they're expensive shoes? What if it was something else?

I think it’s more the fact that she asks that he pays the full amount if he has explained he doesn’t have that kind of money. I know me living in Canada on minimum wage and almost half of my money monthly is my rent for my one bedroom appartement. So it would take me a pretty crazy time to put that money to the side. And maybe that’s just me but I don’t think the person in the scenario would be fine with the guy taking 6 months to give her the money back. What if the shoes can’t be replaced because they were limited edition ? Is it about the money or about the shoes in that case ?

    For the frogs thing:
14 frogs is a significant amount of enclosures. That means a lot of outlets for heat fixtures, lighting, filters for aquatic species, and humidifiers. That many enclosures, if properly maintained, all adds up in electrical bills and sheer square footage in an apartment.
Frogs are loud, so are the sheer amount of crickets you need for 14 frogs. My sister has 2 frogs and we buy crickets 100 at a time. 4 frogs is a being a hobbyist. 14 is being a pet hoarder. It sounds like she’s in her early 20s and only started this pretty recently. I think scaling back the number of frogs kept is a completely reasonable compromise. I'm rewatching podcasts lol
So I know this is old as hell, but for the frog one that's perfectly normal. Lots of folks keep multiple reptiles/aquariums/amphibians/arachnids, some even end up devoting entire rooms to their collection.
While they do require at least weekly if not daily maintenance it's nowhere near as much as taking care of a cat or dog. Having 15 frogs is nowhere near the equivalent of that many cats or dogs. It's an awesome hobby because there's animal care involved and also the habitat to build and design. Look up aquascaping if you're ever bored. I've never had frogs, but I've kept snakes and bearded dragons. Freshwater aquariums are by far my favorite animal keeping hobby.
A separate room for the frogs is pretty reasonable. They wouldn't smell, but they'd probably be quite loud, so I'd want them in a different room. Although once you dedicate a room to a hobby like that I guarantee it's gonna eventually be filled.

For the dog ruining the shoes thing, the reaction of the girl should depend on how much value it holds for her. If $1200 is a drop in the bucket for her, she ideally shouldn't want repayment from a person who can't afford it. But many people who like luxury things but can't afford it also save for a piece for a long time and then get it, and then they're justified in asking for a replacement.
In either case, op is responsible for the actions of his dog and a person who goes out with luxury things isn't responsible for something else destroying it (expect for their own carelessness). So some reimbursement is necessary along with an apology and they shall try to work something out. The way op is planning to respond to this isn't very responsible or respectful and I feel many things in this conversation are getting influenced by the background of the woman and that she is probably in a comfortable place, which we can't be sure of.

What is the endgame for lying about an entire job? Some people do it compulsively. Some people find it fun. Most people I know who lied about a job, or who pretended to go to school everyday but really hid in a coffeeshop instead, were already in a relationship when the lie started. They didn't want to face losing their job, or dropping out of school, what have you. There wouldn't really be a rational endgame or plan, either they would think they'll be able to get a new job before they have to tell their partner, or they just thought "I can't handle saying it today, I'll wait until tomorrow" and then they did it again, and then it was "too late" to own up, so they kept doing it. It tended to be really intense denial and anxiety, and it made the people miserable, it wasn't some strategic scam.

I was also concerned about that “compromise”. It seemed to me as a way of controlling her, which can lead to more serious relationship issues later on.

As a fellow reptile/amphibian rehaber... 15 frogs is not a lot of frogs, its kind of average. Especially if they're more sedentary frogs that basically plant themselves in their enclosures and wait for food.
I don't like spiders but my wife does. So we compromised and we have 27 tarantulas.

Question @Rae Grainger, I used to live near a creek, can’t frogs be incredibly loud? And how much time would it take to care for them? Plus I don’t think she ever said how many there are, they just used 15 as an example, but what if there were more?

Once after a bad breakup I found a post from my ex about me on r/relationships. It basically boiled down to, “she asked me to leave her alone, should I honor that wish?” And almost all of the commenters told him that no, he should pursue me to “let me see how much he cared.” There was one single person who told him to back off, and that person got downvoted into oblivion. Not surprisingly, he ended up stalking me.

That’s a very common issue, it’s prevalent. A lot of people think if you try hard enough or want it bad enough, you’re entitled to it. And to a lot of men (and women), that applies to potential romantic partners. I’m sure the responses on the: if I buy her food will she love me, are varying degrees of “keep trying, you’ll wear her down eventually”. It comes from a lot of rom coms, I think, where there are men who are persistent when the woman is clearly not interested or has said she’s focused on work or whatever, and they keep following her around and trying to get her to like them and then there’s a big grand gesture and she changes her mind. It’s a control thing, they want power over you. Big red flag if they can’t respect your wishes, the things you clearly tell them, and think you’re just a part of their story they want to force to happen and try to dominate you as a result. Unfortunately it leads to a lot of stalking, manipulation, and domestic abuse in real life.

For the frog story: she needs to leave him. He is being controlling. Forcing her to act in a way he wants. It definitely is a power move. No one should force you to get rid of your beloved animals. She isn’t hoarding frogs, she rescues them. 14 frogs is nothing compared to what others have.
I have 4 African Dwarf Frogs, but they are tiny and live in a fish tank, but I wouldn’t hesitate to get 10 more. I also have 3 dogs. Three dogs that all have their own expensive medical issues. I’d never give them away.
This girl needs to find a man that loves her frogs as much as she does.

I agree so much. Frog enclosures aren't even that big of a nuisance. It's not like she has a bunch of frogs hopping around the house. If it bothered him that much, he shouldn't have invited her to move with him to begin with instead of making it a conditional offer

Here’s the real question: she had frogs when they met. He didn’t like them all along. Now he gas her hooked on him and asks her to rehome them. Why did he infiltrate her life past date 1 if he didn’t like frogs and knows she does? Abuse set up. Control freak.
