"...Pop too early. My life's story." ahahaha
The funniest part is that his mom is filming.
@@speedsquishstupid luckily she doesn’t understand 😂😂😂
My mrs sez that too lad
@@BenDeakinMTB she films like a pro
Far and away the best jump tutorial I've seen, the only thing I felt slightly lacking was replays of good technique: can't beat seeing it over a few times - some slo-mo, maybe different angles - for it to really seep into the mind. The more we can imagine the ideal position, timing etc the easier it is for our bodies to replicate that.
Look forward to getting out and working on it, cheers 👍
I'm confused, do you want your bike to be seen or not? :D
Lol.
One of the simplest and best explanations I’ve seen, cheers Deaks
When searching for this video, my brain shortcuted, and I couldn't figure out why I couldn't find it. I searched for Dean Benkin.
Clear, helpful content thanks - and better to pop too early than not pop at all...
Hey Ben Deakin! Your Mom did an excellent job of filming you! How could you make that disparaging remark about shaky footage? Poor woman tried so hard to raise her son properly and teach him to be respectful of others and then she gets this???? You should apologize and order her favorite lunch from her favorite restaurant a few times as a start to make it up to her! Then flowers and spa day after the quarantine allows such things! Maybe you have been hanging out too often with that bad influence Olly Wilkins!!! Thanks for the excellent jumping tips! Ride ride ride!
😂😂😂
What Ben Deakin meant to say is...., “If you see the camera a little shaky, my mom is recording using the camera, so piss off if you’ve some complaints”. 👍🏼
Hey Twentykixx! It's obvious you have zero sense of humour! Don't freaking tell me to piss off! Ben Deakin responded to this post so he got the joke! Ride ride ride!
Eric M, I meant that is what Ben should’ve said in the opener instead. Nothing more. Ride ride ride! Absolutely. 😀👍🏼
Used to hit all sorts of huge jumps when I was a kid. I recently got back into riding... and now I’m sitting here watching this with a broken collarbone 😂
Great and helpful vid, watched it before going to Chicksands this morning
I can already jump, but an amazing tutorial. Well done Ben
Great video. One of the best MTB jumping guides I’ve watched. Nice one Deakinator! 👍🏻
You’re such a legend looking forward for this one
Thanks a lot for.the tutorial my friend
+1 for drop offs. Particularly bigger ones that don’t have a flat landing. The one at antur stiniog is a good example 🤙
you need to bunny hop off instead of manualling. Just did a video on this you can look at whilst you wait for Ben's take on it - look it up on my channel.
Emily Horridge great video! Some insightful stuff there. Thank you
@@richf8879 you're very welcome, hope it helps 👊
I have a channel if you want check it out?
This is a great! My dad is helping learn to jump with my kicker ramps but I’m going to try the push. Thanks 🤘🏻
Great video Ben. Very informative. Your mum did a great job with the recording.
Loving the white porcupine tyres, use to run these back in the day. Think I'm going to get some for my newly refurbished santa cruz bullit and go totally retro 🤘
Grew up learning to jump there. Sent that table top to flat countless times in the end!
Samuel Wrobel where’s it filmed?

These vids are helping me loads my manual is getting better and hopefully now my ankles will get a rest from casing all the time 👍
Nice vid, going to use this info to improve my jumps.. But after my ribs heal, just crashed and broke two 😂 (not jumping haha). Can't wait to get back on the bike again
yeah nice vid Ben🤘🏽
Yo Ben, could you do a vid on drops (roll it) I think it would really help people with high and especially low speed drops, #oioi
Awesome video deaks. Nicely explained. Thanks dude.
Fab job mum!
im glad your mum was there to keep you under control and twist your ear if you were a naughty boy.
Finding these very helpful, been hitting a few jumps today down upton heath, keep up the awesome content 💪🏼👍🏼
Looking forward to getting out and making use of some of these techniques! Great vid deaks! 👍🔥🚲
Awesome video, thank you soooo much perhaps the next time you come to New Zealand we could organise some coaching
As I've just watched pilgrim I have to give you a "oi oi to the skoi'.
Some how I am patiently waiting
Great video, really well explained 👍
when you say “push” are you pushing your handlebars forward? this is for the normal push technique
Is this in puddle town?
No issues with assembly for me ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxHL1v1R3NE5x4KiYfyt8dnQmyNYz7qi5L but I could see where some might benefit from using an experienced bike assembler/mechanic. I'm an older rider starting back after a 10 year break. This bike exceeds my capabilities and has been easy to get comfortable riding. I'm mostly on easy trails with almost no street riding and have not been disappointed with the performance of the bike. My fitness level is far below what I previously rode with and because of that the mileage is going on the bike slowly. While I'm losing weight slowly, the bike seems to tolerate my 220 pounds just fine. The bike has been used by several family members ranging from 5'5" - 5'9".
Jumping is like cornering in the most basic of sense - if you look into the rut of a corner you'll dig into the ruts - if you look out of the corner you'll keep better speed and have a better turn..
Same goes for jumping - don't go off the jump and look down - you'll just go straight over bars -
Go off the jump and push is definitely the best way to figure out the basics - pushing into the jump will allow you to set the base for all jumping skills - you'll slowly get more and more comfy with the control aspect and then get into the pop or carve technique where you throw your bike around - you'll need to lay a base before this as the added weight shift when moving is something you'll need to train your muscle memory on
Long and short of it - BIKING IS MUSCLE MEMORY - you need to practice and condition your muscles and reflexes to react without overthinking it.
The more you do it the less overthinking and the more sending you'll be doin!
Send on shredders! Keep it rolling Ben!
I guess you haven’t learned the hard way yet why it’s terribly unsafe to dig big ass holes directly next to your lips? Lol 😂 hope someone new doesn’t come bombing down that trail blind anytime soon.... if they decide to pull off left to any of the jumps they’re dead! Haha
Yeah I went Mach 10 into the kickiest jump ever on a downhill bike, broke my collarbone and more importantly my sunglasses 😂😂
When you say push technique mate do you mean push the bike into the ground or push the bike forward as you hit the takeoff?
Top bloke!!
Where is your body weight on the push method? I find myself being too far backwards and have slipped off the back especially when landing on a table top or flat.
I used to play action man all the time
There's a set of 3 doubles that I'm hoping this will help me get over. 🤞
Perfectly timed video, I should be hitting the local jumps this weekend. Cheers Ben
Came and stayed for the great info-- thumbs upped for the recycling tip. Nice one, cheers!
Brilliant content Ben 👌🏻
Suspension set up first please. Yes we know but for many this is key to understanding stability and what the bike is doing and what should be considered
Definitely sending this to my dad 🤣
same hahah
Push and relax.. I like that simple and effective tip
so you dont push the bar away from you instead of pulling it ???
Can you do how to hit berms properly??
Can you teach us how to roll a jump please deaks? Actually scrap that one .teehee
Weird one - I can jump, but all the time before I do any 'bigger jumps' I'm visualising the jump but also start thinking about crashing! Anyone else get this?
Some good points there but leaving loads of things out. Hip placement, arms bent, being perpendicular to the ground and the fact to let the bike pivot beneath you to name a few.
Naaaa way to complicated, you don’t talk about that when jumping on the ground without the bike, this is the next step to the basics, it would be to easy for someone to over think about that, the reason I don’t talk about arms bent is then it encourages pulling with the arms which I don’t want! 👍
Top camera work Mrs Deaks.
Great video Ben. Quick question but I’m a learner with jumps and was wondering how is best to set the full suspension up before jumping? e.g. faster compression and medium rebound? Thanks
I’m not the guy to speak to about that but get a base setting and stick to it, the only thing you would play with then for your ‘jump settings’ is just stiffness more compression or air,
Roll it Bro! ;)
You should also add if the biggest jump you have successfully landed is 10 feet don't move on to a 25-foot jump this will result in a broken collar and bruised ribs....I know this from experience 😂
Nice instructional ... Subscribed
Horribly brake checked a guy yesterday because I saw the hole in the middle of a double. He's ex pro...I felt miserable. Nice vid. Jumping is my weakest point.
Where the hell did you get the white tires??????
Cheers for Deeks mum helping out 🍻👍. Great video mate , I can jump ,nothing like you and your mates though, you gave me lots of stuff I can use thanks mate cheers 🤘
Yep, I definitely need to stop pulling up. Next time I'll just push into the jump then relax at the top. Hopefully this does the trick!
Just subscribed. Nice tutorial covering the basic stuff we all can find in the woods. Request : how to go from tables and little fly offs and drops into steeper gaps ie 45 degree take offs and landings with gaps more thane a bike length. I fear casing the landing!
Your bike is B.E.A-utiful
Hi Ben, thanks so much for the tutorial! When you say to push do I only push through and pop thru the legs and heels or do you also push with your arms as well???
All legs mate 🤘
Is there any difference to these techniques when done on a hardtail?
Bikes ugly and beautiful at the same time
How do you keep the bike with you in the air?
Thanks to this video. Over the past 2 day's I've learnt to jump my EBike. Previously I was holding onto the bars like my life depended on it. Now I've relaxed and loosened my grip and learnt to push the bike rather than pull I'm clearing jumps. I'd normally nose dive off them instead of jumping. Brilliant video Ben and one of the best tutorials 👍👍👍.
Biggest issue I see is see the front wheel drop on take off. Either resulting in low jump height or being bucked over the bars. Something that helps is the focus of being heavy on the feet and light on the hands. That is, jump through the feet but use the hands to not let the front wheel drop. Getting new jumpers to land on their rear wheel on step ups is another technique to achieve this. I also like to focus on jumping through feet just before the rear wheel takes off the lip. Another good exercise is to manual on a road towards the foot path/pavement and, just before the gutter, jump from the manual up onto the foot path/pavement. Start the manual close to gutter and slowly increase the distance from the gutter that you start the manual. It teaches you to jump through the feet and not through the arms as much.
Finally put this to practise today and finally clearing jumps on the trail over at Ptown that i normally skip round. The manual vid has also helped massively. Cheers!! 🤪
Love this video Deaks, my two boys are inspired!
When you "unweight" the bike, how do you stay on the pedals? I always start floating away from the bike and it's no bueno.
Great video, very instructive!
So in conclusion for most of the jumps we need to watch to the recepcion of the jump at least
Can you explain most of the times whats the mistake if in big jump the rear wheel tend to inclinate in the aire roo much?
could be high speed rebound in the rear shock?
Thanks!
Bike park wales, that line is a bit kicky
Thanks once again Ben for a brief insight into how to jump. Never too old to improve technique. Now just need to find sensible jumps.....
Nice tips and information 😁
Ben you should come to Bike park Wales after lockdown . Sick trails and jumps
Holly . To much talking
Great explanation clear easy to understand and remember. Best explanation on UA-cam.
Yet another gr8 how to by the deakinator👌nicely explained, keep upthe good work🤘
Thanks very very much indeed for your help and explanation.
Awesome Video Deaks!
We should call you Skills with Ben :)
Enjoyed this. There's a lot of how to jump vids on UA-cam - this is one of the best ones I reckon
Hi mum! 👍
Great video Ben , how about a tutorial on cornering , flat turns , banked corners , all the techniques needed .
Absolutely the best jump tutorial. From theory to practice in few time
Hey Ben just wanted to say thanks heaps , I watched this to learn the races take off and I got confident getting on an angle and started to scrub a little bit, and I realised this until my friend recorded me, I have always wanted to learn how to scrub or race takeoff and I just couldn’t do it with the other videos but this just helped so much so cheers a lot mate
Did he "roll it"?
Been looking for a good how to jump vid for ages now. There's a lot of vids out there but this by far is the best
Excellent that was so well explained
What are those knee pads?
Really helpful vid Ben, best tutorials I’ve seen and all properly explained. Cheers.
"Just Roll It"
Good explanations Deaks, just need my DMR Sled now!!
Deaks when you say push at base of jumps do u push your heels down aswell as the forks?! Can’t wait to give it a go!
Yes push with heels, 🙌
@@BenDeakinMTB so just push through with the heel s yeah don’t have to push down with arms on forks too?!
Wow, that's a great video and tutorial on how to jump. Thank you!
Great Job brother this helped! I cant wait to apply it!!!
Ooooh.........OTB. LOL
Savage vid dude... loads of detail and nicely delivered. Cheers 👌
