  • Kokanee fishing has quickly grown in it's popularity here in the Northwest. It is one of my favorite things to look forward to in the spring. Fast action, lots of fish and they are so tasty.
    Getting Geared up to fish for Kokanee doesn't have to break the bank. You can get a very affordable setup for close to $60. Take a look at this video as I break down the gear I would fish on a kokanee budget.
    Gear shown in the video:
    -Eagle Claw Featherlight 8ft Kokanee Rod
    -Abu Garcia Black Max Reel
    -10lb Izor line for main line
    -Dodgers: Rocky Mountain tackle, Dick Nite Spoons, and Gull's Custom
    -Lures: Spinners (Skagit Tackle, Gamakatsu, Mack's Lure, Rocky Mountain Tackle, Wicked Lures)
    -Squids (Crappie Tubes, Hoochie King, Ricky Mountain Tackle, Olympic Tackle)
    -Scents: AN Sporting Scent Stick
    -Baits: White Shoepeg Corn, Berkley Maggots

    I love the eagle claw kokanee rods. I've landed a steelhead plant in my local lake recently and it did great. Does well with lead droppers also.

    Is it at all possible to fish for Kokanee from shore in WA?

      There definitely can be times of the year off a deeper dock fishing jigs or float with bait that you could find surfacing schools. Really depends on the lake

      @@HolyMolyOutdoors Interesting. What time of the year generally? Am I correct in assuming it depends on the lake?

    Good info for beginners who may not want to make a big investment up front, but for the long haul on a budget nothing beats tying you own lures. I take screen shots off UA-cam then head out to the shop....

    I love your videos. Could you post a video on how to use electronics to find kokanee? What do they look like on the sonar? Thanks man

    Can i do basic bank fishing with this rod?

    • @HolyMolyOutdoors
      @HolyMolyOutdoors  5 років тому

      It is possible yes but not the best as the rod will be very flimsy as it is made to troll with

    Any suggestions if you're bank fishing?

      FDTHNG thanks for the comment. Kokanee fishing from shore can be tough. Most places it is not deep enough to get them close to shore.

      Holy Moly Outdoors yeah me and my buddy found that out this weekend. Tried every set up we had and didn't catch anything but a sun burn haha

      King Cronic thanks for watching! I agree they are a great rod for the price point. Good back ups to my velocity if needed

    So no downriggers. How many oz lead can a featherlight take? I am looking of using up to 4oz cannonball.

    • @HolyMolyOutdoors
      @HolyMolyOutdoors  5 років тому

      That is a very good question. The eagle claw kokanee rod is very parabolic and I imagine 4oz is going to take all the flex from the rod.i would recommend a rod with a little more back bone like a Velocity ninja or samurai that can handle the heavier droppers
