Like you I catch Kokanee on several different set-ups. One I like is a small trout killer pink apex lure rigged with double hooks. You provided lots of very good tips - Thanks
My favorite lure is what ever is working that day. Usually start with what worked last time then work through different speeds and scents and some times leader length. This process is helped immensely if you have a couple people with 2 pole endorsements.
Orange hoochie tied with #2 Gami wide gap finesse hooks, Small Indiana blade, 13 inch leader, 1 piece of corn on each hook with Pro-cure wizard Kokanee killer korn magic and super dipping sauce, Kokanee/sockeye flavor. Great video. Thank you.
I use all the three that Cameron talked about. Just started to use the Cut plug lure. Kokanne are my go to fish when I can’t salmon fish. My most success if from a mini hoochie and a spin glow.
OBH DUDE, 2 FYI facts you should know. One, their name is spelled " Kokanee:, and two (and most importantly) they ARE Salmon - and most will say the BEST Tasting!
I used to fish from shore at a dam on the Columbia using a slip bobber and a small salad shrimp. once i learned how deep the fish were it would only take a half hour to limit out. we didn't have a boat so trolling wasn't an option.
A toss up between pink hoochie and pink w/orange wedding ring, both with spinners. I've always used sling blades and anise scent shoepeg corn on the second hook.
Last september and half of October i was driving and hr and a half targeting kokanee and finally after weeks and weeks i nailed 14 in a small pocket of water! It was so fun man not even pink yet all nice and silver. I used a kokanee killer and a blue fox with shrimp. Cant wait till that lake opens again in march the trout should be huge by then and a few months later the kokanee come back
Best eating fish smoked on a Bradley Smoker, 60 minutes of pecan smoke. Then canned in pint jars. They keep for years if you hide them from the family.
Years back Pennsylvania had kokanee stocked in what was called Upper Woods Pond. The state stopped the stocking process. They actually removed the salmon from the lake. It's now a trout lake (specifically). In recent years, someone and not the fish commission introduced smallmouth bass to the lake. I've found the trout fishing to decline since the smallmouth were put in. I'm now asking the state to have the smallmouth removed from the lake. it won't happen I'm sure. But there are plenty of places for fishermen to pursue smallmouth in that area
When I was a lad and learning to fish, back in the day, in ancient times, before written language, when the Flintstones had the coolest car in town, we used to run the orange wedding rings with hammered silver blades behind cowbells and snubbers, ALWAYS with corn and/or fresh maggots. And we had every kind of drag-inducing contraption we could conjure up to try to slow down our old Mercruiser-equipped tri-hull. That was when most of us had two rods --- a trolling broomstick, and an 'everything else' spinning rod. We had no idea you needed thousands of dollars of fishery- and species-specific gear to fish.
50/50 flame chartreuse small (#12 or 14) spin-n-glo with straight 1 1/2 inch piece of nightcrawler with a little "tail" past the hook bend. Shallow water early spring. 1960s to early 90s, before UV, dodgers, downriggers, etc.
Caution :The Eagle Claw has a short reel seat ! the only line of Okuma bait-caster reels that fit; is the awesome: Okuma Magda Pro line Depth Counter MA-20 ( DX =( right handed ) a perfect fit reel foot, for the rod seat. Most all of my spinning/bait-casting with depth counters reels are spooled and all i do is match them to any type of fishing that's out there; some 36lb lead core with at least 6lb mono leader ( some set up with 6 lb with 4 lb leader mono to mono, Then 8,10 & 14 lb mono and ( some with 10-14 lb floro to minimum of 6lb mono leaders ) their reel foot also fits into the Eagle Claw reel seat. Also This is a 2 piece rod ,Eagle Claw 8 foot 6" featherlight kokanee FL209C2-8'6 Casting Mod Light action rod . Have fun fishing
My eagle claw 7'6" is paired with a abu garcia max dlc and I love it. Picked up the rod for 20$ at Walmart. The rod is great and it can handle 2-3 Oz weight or big fish like the steelhead planted in some of our lakes.
Always have a collection of wedding rings in my box cause they work. After that its the kcp. Like the copper, but always had luck on fire Tiger patterns.
#1 of all time 2 #2 Gamakatsu wide gap finesse hooks with 1/2 wedding ring with a 1.2 Micro glo squid tipped with shoepeg corn 8 inch leader and Poulsen Cascade Half-Fast Arrow Flash UV Dodger i would be happy to fish with this alone forever...
Martin Fire-Stripe plastic wobbler (half white/half flame orange) behind Flashlights on Merwin near Woodland Park at the Indian Burial Mound in the mouth of Rock Creek. 45 years and nothing comes close...too bad the Martin Firestripe was discontinued and barely available, the rainbow colored Luhr Jensen Kokanee King is a distant 2nd place.
@@AddictedFishing nope, the last few I found were at a garage sale in Woodland. I found a solid red one and scraped it to make it look similar to no avail. Do you know where the indian burial mound at the mouth of Rock Creek is?
@@AddictedFishing just got one in an ebay auction, but hard to swap out after the stellar performance of dodgers and hoochies...will try tomorrow 6Jan23
Easy answer for the best kokanee lure...the Sonic BaitFish. Vertical jigging on a slow drift ...deadly. Keep it simple, uncomplicated and outfish trolling by staying over the kokanee rather than passing through them.
Have you tried chrounamids lately that's what I've been doing ice fishing and trolling with a Dodger black and red no bait outfishes other setups for my experience
This is super interesting, to see the west coast catch trout ....in Tennessee we use just corn or throw Rapala plugs like countdown 7 in gold or ghost green and pick up 20-30 a day 1/4 lb to 10 lb ....what brought me here is the kokanee, I bought some corn dye called that and being Cherokee wondered where the name came from ....any way have fun
Wedding Ring! Regarding leader length, I have always been told that with dodgers to go 3 times the dodger length. You go shorter. Plz explain! Good info
so what is it about corn specifically that Salmon like? It doesnt seem like a natural food option for them, do you have any ideas what would attract them to corn?

I caught Kokanee using a 1/32 or 1/16 oz tube jigs just fine using green , orange or yellow no beads. Simple. Toss it in and jig it. Works every time
My go to lure is a gang of four# 10 colorado blades follow by a wedding ring. This setup has caught fish from Odall Lake to Merwin Lake
I fish Blue Meas Reservoir in Colorado and my favorite lure there is an Arnies. One egg. I enjoy your videos on kokanee fishing

I've personally caught more kokanee with just a nightcrawler during early spring spawn than anything... ol worm & bobber. Best eating fish out there!
Best eating fish smoked on a Bradley Smoker, 60 minutes of pecan smoke. Then canned in pint jars. They keep for years if you hide them from the family.
Green wedding ring also great for sea run cutthroat trout
Good vid.... Purple huchie with spinner...treble hook...fermented corn
I'm a diehard spin and glow guy. And I always use a scent on my corn.
I run a Pink apex behind a dogtail dodger. I tip mine with dyed and scented corn. Works very well in the interlakes of BC.
What is the corn dyed and scented with?
Thats my go to up in the cariboo, dodgers are usually Gibbs, Brads or the Simons

wedding band and maggot is what we used to use. Man, miss kokanee fish, little beauties.
