- Gungrave is the type of game from the ps2 you don't really seen get made anymore. It's simple and short yet extremely fun and addictive. This is a game that could be rereleased on steam for $20 and people would love it

In the bunji fight, you need to let him regen all his life, when he finish continue the combat, then he regen his life again but this time less than before and its like this every time so eventually he dies
I never realized that's what he did. God i hated that fight. Surprisingly liked the rematch with him in Overdose tho
I found Bunju can be almost instantly defeated by baiting his finisher move dash, do a side jump while locked on and then try to melee him, if successful he'll fly back stun locked allowing you to barrage him with bullets and more melee attacks to keep him down.
Whaaaaaat i played it after watch this review and when i got there i was like oh boy the hardest fight in the game here we go bro it was nothing i kept locked on and dive shot him whenever he tried to hide i finished it in 20 seconds
You can also use the side jump on the pillars and shoot till he dies
got him on my second try. what i did was run up to him and use my super the moment he started to regen health. i guess he was so low at the time, it just isnta killed him.
Gungrave anime is so slept on, it was my first ever anime and I rewatch it every year. This review was amazing and much needed to bring attention to the series.

Wow! A review on the game where the person playing knows about the controls! Good as always, Cvit. However, you called this game easy. I would like to point out that the difficulties for this game were renamed, with easy being normal etc.
Wait wouldn't that mean that normal is hard? So the game is still easy
@@zachman329 No. The Normal setting in game is Japan's Easy setting. There are two other difficulties in the game and he played on "normal" (easy) and called the game easy.

Not gonna lie. I LOVE how this game looks. It interestingly contrasts art style wise compared to the only games made by Red Entertainment I've played. The Fossil Fighters trilogy.

I remember renting Gungrave with my friend years ago! We both didn't know anything about the game other than "they guy from Trigun made it!" and it turned into a fun afternoon with the game.
well damn this is a surprise, this multi media anime series was my gateway in to the main anime culture Gungrave will always have a specials place in my heart and i will always find time to play the games. The fact that were getting a new one makes my heart sing

Was always obsessed with this game since I was barely 4 years old, still have the original ps2 cd, I still play it now and then, know it all inside n out, still gives me the chills - this one to me was so much better than overdose and the new "gore" , it just had that right "gungrave" thing to it
Gungrave anime was one of my most favourite ever. It had a difficult task to merge the extravagance of the game with life story but I think it managed to do so very well.
I remember watching the schmo show and rata mention this, so a few 7zip files later and a 26 episode anime and yeah I gotta say the anime is way better

@@starless267 I played the first level of overdose and thought "eh alright" and didn't continue. So rip me I guess.
oh and yeah the anime at around episode 15 I think turns into the first game and completely downward slopes. I was really sad too cause I think it's worse for something good to end on a wet fart instead of something to just be bad. However, the final episode totally brings it back and it fuckin rules.

Gungrave is a satisfyingly bite sized. Reminds me of Strider 2 that way: short, sweet, and to the point.
THANK YOU I played this game when I was 7 when my cousin brought it over. But I never knew what it was, every time I tried to search up the description of what I remember as a kid I would always get killer7 or XIII. But after all these years I finally got the name of this game.
You touched on the anime a bit, and having just finished it, I can say it goes the opposite of the game in the best way. Low on action scenes, but long slow character drama moments, that slowly brings in the fantastical elements. Would recommend to anyone who likes the game.
Ah, Trigun. My first anime series ever! It did set the bar for my descent into the weeb world back in the day.

I swear some of the most interesting games came out on the ps2. Every game that comes out today feels the same
It was a great time. Pretty much every big console and pc games were highly creative and experimental.
Now? No creativity, no passion, little to no experimentation, and lots of baloney censorship for many AAA gaming companies.
Ps2 are legendary I don't blame people who still play em!
Maybe I really should check out the game. I love the anime and am curious if you ever saw it. Brandon and Harry's relationship and Brandon's character made that show unforgettable to me. Not sure if there is more buildup to the ending of this game that I missed due to not having much context, but the ending of the anime was definitely pretty different and another reason the show is one of my favorites.
There isn't too much more buildup, the anime goes into far more depth with Brandon's past and his relationship to everyone in the syndicate
I love the anime and the game but the ending of the anime *far* surpasses the game imo

3:04 Fun fact, you actually can run and gun at the same time. What you need to do is hold run and shoot at the same time while locking on. It's just awkward as hell with the default key configuration, personally I like having run be on X instead of O that makes it way easier. Oh yeah and turn on RAPID.
The only reason I heard of and wanted to play this game since childhood was from those PlayStation Underground Demo discs my brother had. I watched those videos they have in the backlog called "Cool Moves" where people that worked on several games give you insights and tips for finding in game treasures, secrets and giving you tips on how to beat bosses.
The video I watched showed how to beat Bunji really fast by spamming your missles after he charges you, away from the pillars he'd hide behind. Keep him against the walls toward the front so he won't run and hide and heal himself. After playing this for the first time (literally last night), I realized how difficult it was if you used all your missles beforehand.
I also didn't get a manual with my copy, so I know the pain.

Just finished gungrave today. Really loved it
I recovered my original PS3 account about a year ago now and was SO HAPPY I had access to Gungrave Overdose again! I know there is another game in the works but something feels like it might be stuck in developement hell. We can only hope. The Gungrave anime is also my favorite anime of all time. Short and sweet.

That's because DMC3 was partly influenced from Gungrave for the Gunslinger style.

I appreciate the very accurate review of the game I wish more reviewers would feel the same way about gungrave Gore although it does drag a little longer than it should carries over much of the design philosophy of The originals

This is one of my favorite ps2 era games. I didn't really grow up with a ps2 so i don't have a lot of nostalgia for games on the console. I only even played Gungrave in like 2017 cause of how over the top edgy it looked.

i just play this game yesterday and i think Bunji fight is that you need to lock-on and shoot him untill your skull meter sparking and do Demolition shot it cut to cut-in super and kill him
actually you can do it to all the boss too if you shoot them to get beat going
I remember thinking there was an alternate ending if you didn't shoot Harry only to sit fhere and nothing happening until youpull the trigger. Can't wait to try out the new one coming out.

One of my favourite PS2 games!
My first exposure to Gumgrave was its seqyel, Gungrave Overdose. 10/10
i enjoyed this game, it felt like a subtle movie, because everything was told to grave and the viewer didn't have any relevance even if he didn't knew the details.
The combat was only a problem on boss fights, but turned easy after you learned the pattern. The cutscenes were a reward i expected after every level. The sense of progression (and that made the game short) is what kept me interested too.
My first impression tho, was hilarious. that background music, for being the first 2 missions i was asking myself what the heck i'm playing.
You don't have to keep pressing square to be able to shoot, you can hold it too. And if you use the special move on a boss fight when he has low health, it plays a cutscene fatality.
That Osaka battle theme from Yakuza 2 fit this game surprisingly enough

Unless I'm misremembering something, I heard somewhere that the cancelled Trigun game we WERE going to get was quite literally repurposed into Gungrave, as it was fairly far along in development and the team didn't want to just throw all their assets away.
I think that's a weird rumour, they people at RED had the premise and brought on Nightow for the design and stuff, eventually a Trigun game did come out on PS2 anyway

Loved this game and the anime but I would really like seeing a Bujingai video. Looking back at videos it doesn't seem to hold up too well but I remember thinking the combat and especialy movement system were insane for the time. Granted I would have been around 9 and Dynasty Warriors was my favorite series at the time so not a high bar there lol

The Gungrave anime was awesome.
Something that everybody seems to miss (because the game does a shitty job of telling you) is you can use L3 while moving to jog. you're still not fast, but you're slightly faster and can still shoot.
This has gotta be one of the best looking PS2 games

I'd gladly buy a physical copy for a remaster of Gungrave on console. $20 to $30 is fair. Same for its sequel, Overdose.

Always feels like a writers' talking to me like a fukin child when they use food analogies
I would like to mention that you can actually still sprint and fire your guns. The input is awkward, you need to hold down circle and L1 simultaneously then can shoot while running. I found during a recent playthrough whilst fighting the boss you mentioned being too fast

How awesome would a remake be given to the Devil May Cry Team? I know Gore is a thing but if it was given to Capcom I think it can be really special
Since you like these AA types I would SERIOUSLY reccomend Echo for the PS4. You are a woman named En and go to a planet that makes clones of you that try to kill you. Its a really interesting game that is SO underrated and you never hear anyone talk about it
