  • As resources started to dwindle in the postwar era, nations of the world began to take a cutthroat approach to business. Hostile takeovers no longer applied to businesses but instead to entire countries, seen when the U.S invaded Mexico in 2051.

Definitely the most realistic scenario in Fallout. Sounds like something right out of history in South and Central America. Chile definitely comes to mind

War with China isn't unlikely either. Nor once resources that we can't replenish run out leading to brutal conflicts across the globe. The most unrealistic part are the Robots and Aliens in the Pre-War, Mutants and Ghouls in the Post War as radiation will just kill people not transform them into something else.

I sometimes wonder if the invasion of Mexico and Canada are the reason the Riot Gear Armor exists, it would be effective for any occupation force not using Power Armor.

I think they were already present due to mainland US problems, where any medium/big scaled protests were handled by force. Though they probably were upgraded thanks to feedback in both Mexico and Canada.

You should play Deus Ex. The original one from 2000.
A completely ridiculous story of an alternate history US where the WTC was destroyed by terrorists, China has risen to the level of global financial superpower, the US has a sizable debt owed to china, the American president is a mouthpiece puppet for a foreign nation trying to control its rival, a substantial number of American citizens have taken to outright armed conflict in the belief that they are fighting the second American revolution, and several million people are dead and dying from a new plague sweeping across the globe.

Not so fun fact one of the original designers was on a call with someone from Russia and he heard loud popping in the background when he asked "What is that?" the Russian responded by saying "Oh that's the mafia driving around shooting their guns in the air." That moment cemented the idea that China was going to be the main enemy of the US not Russia in Fallout

This one makes sense though in a scenario where Canada becomes such a uncooperative ally (look at Canadian sabotages of American troop movements and pipelines prior to Canada annexation) and for Mexico as long as it stays in a similar state to our world then it is fairly easy to see such a shift in friendshisp

Because... that's how some of the history has come about to be. Not on allies but they have staged various coups, funded wars(like the banana war) and made up wars (Like the Iraq war, it was all made up, but real innocent people died, Iraq was never involved in the terrorism attacks they were acused of, and they didn't have WeaponsOfMassDestruction).

The commentary on justifying modern imperialism is nice and all but, in a world without modern travel, how does Texas run out of oil before Mexico even tries to meet demand with its most lucrative neighbor in a time of global energy shortages? @@armondshakir3655I’m game for invading Mexico but it still doesn’t make logistical sense. If “co-owning” other countries by force for free imports were that easy, we’d have done it to everyone with our global reach so it being the case in Fallout feels arbitrary; and even why stop there? Is the “European Commonwealth” just a US colony? It doesn’t seem to be that way in a status-quo universe where international connections were abolished. Does “commonwealth” equate to a top-down autonomous state?

Not to mention while this could logically occur the invasion of Canada wouldn't, the friendship with the Soviet Union wouldn't, The existence of Robobrains and Ghouls and Supermutants and Synths wouldn't. Parts of the lore are grounded but there's a lot of stuff that is utterly fantastical is overly dramatic for the express reason of critique and having fun.
