I use Equafleece for my westie, the one with four legs. It keeps him warm and almost dry when we return. They might seem expensive but worth every penny.

Not to sound nasty but fudge needs a vest or coat to keep his core warm and booties. Fudge has short fur so he is more vulnerable to the coat. I also use to put Vaseline on my dogs pads to prevent cracking. I have had dogs my whole life and they need to be comfortable. When you said that he had the shivers its because he's not warm enough. I love warching your videos and the scenery and how you both enjoy your new home.
Thank you. Your comment is not nasty at all. Fudge is a Labrador and therefore has a double coat which naturally thickens in the winter. She is mostly very comfortable as still young and energetic. We have got musher for her feet. We did have a coat for our old lab as he needed it as he got older and it made him more comfortable so we will definitely get one for Fudge when she needs it. 🙏🤗❤️

I had lab and husky mix so they were always warm but one of them had the thicker coat in winter but the other one had short fur. Fudge looks so adorable. I had to put mine down a year an half apart. One was 15 and the other 13 an half. I don't think I could get another dog. So heartbreaking when they go but they bring so much love and joy to us. Keep hiking and I enjoy your videos 🙏♥️🤗🇨🇦

Tip from old George. Carry 2 x good plastic bags. For use in crossing streams. Dont take boots off but Put each boot leg in the bags cross stream and take bags off. Hey presto dry . I was told how to do this by an old tramp. George

It might be worth looking at the well set up - ours was 800ft up in the Cairngorms and the supply to the house never froze even at prolonged -22 degrees in 2010. We had a frost thermostat heater in the little well shed to come on when it reached a certain depth to ensure the pump didnt freeze. Same with our external Grant oil boiler - it was insulated and had a frost stat heater to ensure no issues. Might be worth looking into…

You never cease to amaze me the life you are living yet again more beautiful scenery and never mind what people say about dog coats you no your dog better than we do yes we have coats on our dogs simply because it keeps our golden retriever a little cleaner we can’t keep showering her every day she loves mud lol it’s much easier to wash the coat look forward to the next time xx

Glad you got your water sorted out. This is your trial run for next season you will know to keep in a stock of bottled water for next winter season. The logs are already doing their job at keeping you warm while stacking them. Take Care on those freezing walks X

You don't want mice in anywhere which has wiring. They can chew through wiring, causing you expensive repairs. Act now whilst it is mild again. Strip out the interior insulation and line the whole inner structure with mouse proof wire mesh. That will permanently keep mice out. The insulation can be put back in, with damaged sections replaced. Do it before you have a bigger problem than some chewed insulation.
Is that Sue playing the guitar in the background music 🤔? Only kidding 😂....but tell her I expect a rendition of Classical Gas in a few weeks time. Regarding your mouse, have you an electric socket in the shed? If so you could use one of the plug in sonic pest-deterrents. We used to have regular mice entering our garage until I plugged in a couple of those. Cost pennies to run and although some people said they didnt work for them they definitely did for us; humane too. Smashing video yet again. I just love the snow in the Highlands and wonderful to hear the bothy was full of life and being used for its purpose. Do you think Fudge was hiding under that cushion in case you were going to take her on another jaunt 😊 "Im resting here Mum!". You could tell by her body language throughout that Fudge LOVED that walk. Hope your feet dried out ok...Merino wool garments are perfect for those conditions. Take care. Gav

May be plant some mint and lavender plants around the pump house and make up a spray of their oils to use inside pump house, but avoid spraying near electrical equipment. Just a couple of suggestions other people may have better ones.....also possibly you could make them a wee moose hoose that is comfortable and warm a few metres away from the pump house. I see we are in for some gale force winds on Friday and Saturday, you are more likely to get snow in Aviemore than we are in the Central Belt. Hope you all stay safe, warm and cosy. Woof to Fudge!
Thank goodness it’s Wednesday and your video is out, for I was feeling really down. Thank you. I know on Skye the water you’d to go off quite a lot due to frozen pipes. It’s always go to have a good larder full of food and water for the winter months. I’d think about getting Fudge some boots for her tootsies.

We use a plug in device that sends out pluse sounds that repel mice and they work. We have them in our feed room and pump house as well as other out buildi gs and it had solved our problem.
No, although Sue keeps saying she’ll get her one. We did have one for our old Labrador, Archie as he felt the cold as he got older and we donated it to a dog shelter, now wishing we had it for Fudge, but apart from that one day she doesn’t seem affected at all. 🙏🤗❤️
Here they advice to wear thin gloves together with mittens. I have never done so, either it is not that cold or my hands are warm by itself. We do not have that amount of snow as well:)
I think that’s good advice. I used to do the same when skiing as I felt the cold more due to speed and wind. Now I’m always needing hands for the camera so mittens wouldn’t work when I’m waking. 🙏🤗❤️
If you watch the latest by Camp Out West, they were putting in their insulation, which is wrapped in aluminium and therefore (I think) less likely to be munched. The sides of the insulation which are cut to fit are wrapped in a special aluminium tape, again, a deterrent to tiny teeth.
We are thinking of getting some touring skis which would have been perfect for most of that walk, except crossing the burn of course. Lots of people here seem to be into ski touring so something to think about for next winter. 🙏🤗❤️
Hi Kath lovely to see you again albeit a week or so after the event. I will say I came across you and Sue on ETTC. How other people find out who is out there in UA-cam land I do not know but as my travelling days are over maybe I would not have searched out your site.. Karma no doubt at work. I think you covered any possible comments in your intro today saying what you were taking etc...Was that directed at me :(... just joking... anyway glad to see you had water, food and all of the extras needed and for Fudge too.. OK here's my only question today.. have you sprayed your boots with waterproofing? Might help with those wet sox.. Glad to see you using your sticks. When we lived in Tasmania we use to get our wood delivered by a 3 ton truck.. and that's what we bought - 3 tons because it was cheaper the more you bought.. have you enquired about that (oops 2nd question).. price wise? Guess they wont offer if you don't ask. Nice looking wood though. We often had our fire burning 365 days a year 24/7...surprised you only need it for 3 months or so.. lucky you. Can the wood man (Q No:3) not reverse closer to your wood shed? Glad you sorted your water problem.. sounds like extra insulation is the way to go...always good having those water bottles or even a big container at home for emergencies.. maybe keep a drum in the shed for loo flushing should you have to go a few days.. can always water the plants with it at the end of winter.. best wishes to you both and Fudge from sweltering (heatwave here Perth got to 49.4 deg C this week) Sth West western Australia.. luckily we are usually up to 10 deg cooler than Perth.. Thank you so much for watching and such a long comment like a proper conversation. The temperature you have sounds stifling so stay safe. Now to your questions. My boots are generally waterproof but the water was quite deep and went over the top of one boot. However Sue does also spray them every few months. Logs- yes they are slightly cheaper in larger quantities. I wasn’t sure how much we would need but now we’ve had the experience 2 tonnes will do us for a winter. The place we have the logs unloaded is the closest point we can get a vehicle to that log shed. There is another log shed right next to where the logs are delivered, but the one we use is much more convenient for filling our log basket to bring into the house. Be careful out there and stay cool. 🙏🤗❤️
She doesn’t feel the cold as much as we do and her natural coat thickens over the winter and she’s not keen on wearing things. However, our old Labrador felt the cold as he got older so we got a coat for him. We gave it away to a rescue centre when he passed away aged 14. We will get a coat for Fudge when she slows down and needs the extra layer. 🙏🤗❤️
😂😂😂I think it’s easier now as I can take my time. When we were younger and working we were always rushing to get things done, but now even chores are fun. Strange how your perspective changes as you get older. 🙏🤗❤️
It was -14 degrees Celsius when I left in the morning, so not as cold as the North Pole, but cold enough to wrap up warm particularly as I was walking to a higher elevation where it gets a little colder. 🙏🤗❤️
They are good. We check them regularly and she doesn’t seem to have any ill effects from the cold surfaces. The bit we worry about most is when there is salt on the roads. Always make sure we wash her feet if she’s walked over any salted surfaces, but try to avoid them as much as possible. 🙏🤗❤️
I'm sorry but I think that is so irresponsible taking Fudge on such a walk without a warm woolie coat and booties. You are rugged up to the hilt, but Fudge has nothing. Her paws must be freezing let alone the rest of her. I can't watch the rest of your video.
A fully fit,healthy dog does not need t wear a coat in those conditions....or f time period they were out! .n they certainly don't need " dog boots" either! They come ready made with own coat...n some breeds develope insulateing 'undercoat'......n if you ever saw previous posts you would know that their dogs welbeing is paramount to this lovely couple! In fact you can cause more harm t the dog in some situations by over- dressing them ! N if you actualy paid attention n watched the dog you would see that it's actually really enjoying itself n not in the least bit distressed! As much as we love n care f our dogs.....folk need t remember they are not 'people/ human' n should not be assumed our own needs as a person are identical to theirs! In fact that shows disrespect and ignorance regarding the dog! Also.....the dog has had time t 'aclimatise' t the terrain n weather conditions......
I just had a wee glimpse at the weather forecast and it look like we have some gale force winds coming in on Friday and Saturday. You are more likely to get snow there than in the Central Belt. We have been spraying a mixture with peppermint oil and lavender oil to repeal any mice (mooses), squirrels and rats here. Also have considered planting some mint and lavender plants near our hooses and bin areas. May be you could do similar and also make a wee friendly comfortable moose hoose for your mooses near the pump hoose. Woof to Fudge!
Sorry you feel that way. We love Fudge and would never let her be uncomfortable. Our old Labrador struggled with the cold as he got older so he had all the extra layers, but Fudge is still young and energetic and her coat thickens naturally in the winter. 🙏🤗❤️

Beautiful vlog. Kath you and Fudge must have been freezing although you can see how much you enjoy it. Moving all those logs your bones must have been screaming. Do be careful. Please don’t take this the wrong way but your bones will be hurting, so do be careful. Really enjoyed this vlog. All that snow looks so beautiful. I’m in Australia and melting at 38 degs today.🌞🥵

May be plant some mint and lavender plants around the pump house and make up a spray of their oils to use inside pump house, but avoid spraying near electrical equipment. Just a couple of suggestions other people may have better ones.....also possibly you could make them a wee moose hoose that is comfortable and warm a few metres away from the pump house.
I see we are in for some gale force winds on Friday and Saturday, you are more likely to get snow in Aviemore than we are in the Central Belt. Hope you all stay safe, warm and cosy. Woof to Fudge!

Thank goodness it’s Wednesday and your video is out, for I was feeling really down. Thank you. I know on Skye the water you’d to go off quite a lot due to frozen pipes. It’s always go to have a good larder full of food and water for the winter months. I’d think about getting Fudge some boots for her tootsies.

We use a plug in device that sends out pluse sounds that repel mice and they work. We have them in our feed room and pump house as well as other out buildi gs and it had solved our problem.

No, although Sue keeps saying she’ll get her one. We did have one for our old Labrador, Archie as he felt the cold as he got older and we donated it to a dog shelter, now wishing we had it for Fudge, but apart from that one day she doesn’t seem affected at all. 🙏🤗❤️
Here they advice to wear thin gloves together with mittens. I have never done so, either it is not that cold or my hands are warm by itself. We do not have that amount of snow as well:)
I think that’s good advice. I used to do the same when skiing as I felt the cold more due to speed and wind. Now I’m always needing hands for the camera so mittens wouldn’t work when I’m waking. 🙏🤗❤️
@MotorhomeMums you probably know, but in case: there are gloves you can wear and still working on a telephone. Maybe also with the camera?
If you watch the latest by Camp Out West, they were putting in their insulation, which is wrapped in aluminium and therefore (I think) less likely to be munched. The sides of the insulation which are cut to fit are wrapped in a special aluminium tape, again, a deterrent to tiny teeth.

We are thinking of getting some touring skis which would have been perfect for most of that walk, except crossing the burn of course. Lots of people here seem to be into ski touring so something to think about for next winter. 🙏🤗❤️

Hi Kath lovely to see you again albeit a week or so after the event. I will say I came across you and Sue on ETTC. How other people find out who is out there in UA-cam land I do not know but as my travelling days are over maybe I would not have searched out your site.. Karma no doubt at work.
I think you covered any possible comments in your intro today saying what you were taking etc...Was that directed at me :(... just joking... anyway glad to see you had water, food and all of the extras needed and for Fudge too.. OK here's my only question today.. have you sprayed your boots with waterproofing? Might help with those wet sox.. Glad to see you using your sticks.
When we lived in Tasmania we use to get our wood delivered by a 3 ton truck.. and that's what we bought - 3 tons because it was cheaper the more you bought.. have you enquired about that (oops 2nd question).. price wise? Guess they wont offer if you don't ask. Nice looking wood though. We often had our fire burning 365 days a year 24/7...surprised you only need it for 3 months or so.. lucky you. Can the wood man (Q No:3) not reverse closer to your wood shed?
Glad you sorted your water problem.. sounds like extra insulation is the way to go...always good having those water bottles or even a big container at home for emergencies.. maybe keep a drum in the shed for loo flushing should you have to go a few days.. can always water the plants with it at the end of winter.. best wishes to you both and Fudge from sweltering (heatwave here Perth got to 49.4 deg C this week) Sth West western Australia.. luckily we are usually up to 10 deg cooler than Perth.. Thank you so much for watching and such a long comment like a proper conversation. The temperature you have sounds stifling so stay safe. Now to your questions. My boots are generally waterproof but the water was quite deep and went over the top of one boot. However Sue does also spray them every few months. Logs- yes they are slightly cheaper in larger quantities. I wasn’t sure how much we would need but now we’ve had the experience 2 tonnes will do us for a winter. The place we have the logs unloaded is the closest point we can get a vehicle to that log shed. There is another log shed right next to where the logs are delivered, but the one we use is much more convenient for filling our log basket to bring into the house. Be careful out there and stay cool. 🙏🤗❤️

Why no coat for fudge, she must have suffered while you had more than enough marino layer?
She doesn’t feel the cold as much as we do and her natural coat thickens over the winter and she’s not keen on wearing things. However, our old Labrador felt the cold as he got older so we got a coat for him. We gave it away to a rescue centre when he passed away aged 14. We will get a coat for Fudge when she slows down and needs the extra layer. 🙏🤗❤️
Perhaps a pair of gortex gaiters over your boots?

It was -14 degrees Celsius when I left in the morning, so not as cold as the North Pole, but cold enough to wrap up warm particularly as I was walking to a higher elevation where it gets a little colder. 🙏🤗❤️

They are good. We check them regularly and she doesn’t seem to have any ill effects from the cold surfaces. The bit we worry about most is when there is salt on the roads. Always make sure we wash her feet if she’s walked over any salted surfaces, but try to avoid them as much as possible. 🙏🤗❤️
I'm sorry but I think that is so irresponsible taking Fudge on such a walk without a warm woolie coat and booties. You are rugged up to the hilt, but Fudge has nothing. Her paws must be freezing let alone the rest of her. I can't watch the rest of your video.

A fully fit,healthy dog does not need t wear a coat in those conditions....or f time period they were out! .n they certainly don't need " dog boots" either!
They come ready made with own coat...n some breeds develope insulateing 'undercoat'......n if you ever saw previous posts you would know that their dogs welbeing is paramount to this lovely couple!
In fact you can cause more harm t the dog in some situations by over- dressing them !
N if you actualy paid attention n watched the dog you would see that it's actually really enjoying itself n not in the least bit distressed!
As much as we love n care f our dogs.....folk need t remember they are not 'people/ human' n should not be assumed our own needs as a person are identical to theirs!
In fact that shows disrespect and ignorance regarding the dog!
Also.....the dog has had time t 'aclimatise' t the terrain n weather conditions......
Our dogs in steppes stays outside down to -30-40 without coat or boots, and believe me they stay very healthy

We have been spraying a mixture with peppermint oil and lavender oil to repeal any mice (mooses), squirrels and rats here. Also have considered planting some mint and lavender plants near our hooses and bin areas. May be you could do similar and also make a wee friendly comfortable moose hoose for your mooses near the pump hoose.

Sorry you feel that way. We love Fudge and would never let her be uncomfortable. Our old Labrador struggled with the cold as he got older so he had all the extra layers, but Fudge is still young and energetic and her coat thickens naturally in the winter. 🙏🤗❤️
