  • Stuck in Serbia during tjis horrid coronavirus pandemic. Where else would you rather be ? The Serbs have survived some horrid times in their long history so I'm confident it's better to be stuck here than a toilet paperless USA.

People here are out of their minds not to mention the potential for civil unrest. Serbia is the place to be in case of any calamity!!!!!

I have to admit that even Serbians are surprised how our government is dealing with this pandemic. They are actually doing pretty well with all of these restrictions (two days ago they forbade going out after 5pm until 5am) and we actually don’t have that much people who get infected, and we actually are testing a lot of people. As much as all of us don’t like this we have to deal with it in order to stop this and go back to normal as soon as possible, and I think that this applies to all countries in the world

Starting from today at 10am people of 65+ residing in cities are absolutely forbidden to leave their house. (From 70+ in rural areas)
On Sundays 4-7AM grocery stores will be open for seniors only
Social distancing emphasized, leaving groceries at the doorstep instead of in person
It is very possible that public transport - both local and intercity - will be stopped in 2-3 days (stay tuned)
The army will have a presence in each hospital, migrant centre, and every border crossing
The elections have been cancelled and a date will be set after we are through the crisis
Your utility bills don't need to be paid for at least the next two months, possibly also May
Serbia has enough food, and we will even be exporting it to North Macedonia and Rebublika Srpska in Bosnia
Medical workers salaries will increase by 10%
They are expecting most contagion in hospitals
Apparently Serbia has the capability to hospitalise 6,000 people
Respirators are being imported from international sources
People with minor health issues are being discouraged from going to hospitals
    Self-discipline and organisation are important

i wish i was right now in Serbia, Switzerland is acting to slow because of economics and bureaucracy.
No sanitizer, no masks no toiletpaper or tissues. No pasta or rice or cans except for the supper supper expensiv. i treid to go grocery shopping on saturday in my samll town
we have about 8 supermarket and some small privat food shops, I went at 10 am and was home at 4.30 pm (usally it would take me at the most 2h) there was almost nothing left to buy at some supermarkets at others you had only high-end brands to choose from. i had to go to the next towns to finde some of the stuff my family usally eats, and actually had to go to the next city to find some meat since there was no chicken, pork or beef left. wtf? what do people do in a crisis with fresh meat and fresh veggis???? its not that common to haw big freezers in switzerland espaccialy not in my region.
The shop workers were totally exhausted and some looked like they would either start crying or collapse :(
and an old couple (reaaally old) asked in one of swiss biggest supermarket chains for toiletpaper or anything made of paper really, the saleswoman told them there was none evan the magazin is emty. they looked really down and the saleswoman looked over stressed and also down. it kinda broke my heart a little to see it, the couple obviously didn't have a car and there is no fucking toiletpaper in the whole town. - take nothing for granted, not evan toiletpaper in one of the richest countries on earth. this situation actually is really humbeling and takes you back to the ground.
the Federal Office of Communications, said two days ago that there is a chance that the internet in switzerland could collapse. due to incrasing home office workers that strain home-internet networks. in that case the swiss goverment would cancel all streming platforms like netflix, youtube etc. Quote:
Should the networks nevertheless become overloaded, the federal government could decide together with the providers to temporarily switch off "less important services". The Office understands this to mean providers such as Netflix or UA-cam. "Bandwidth-intensive streaming services" could be affected by a shutdown in an emergency, OFCOM (he Federal Office of Communications) confirmed to the Tages-Anzeiger (Swiss News Media).
A further measure in the event of network overload would be that Internet telephony takes precedence over the distribution of audio and video data (socialmedia).

We had problems with the mobile networks the day when they introduced Marshall law but all the Internet is working fine, Serbia actually invested a lot of money into the full digitalisation in last couple of years and obviously that's paying off for now.
We have only short supply of the face masks and Desinfektion but that's going to stabilise in a week or so, China is sending everything what they asked for and that will arrive at Saturday so until the Monday probably the whole nation will have everything they need. Lockdowns is because of the lacking protection so they prioritise and 3 biggest prisons are converted to face mask factory's and other big factories focused production to the much needed materials.
Only vitamin C is in short supply but everything else u can find but you can buy only limited supply.
We will see, I just hope that Chinese help will arrive before the massive infections.

I am from Novi Sad, but honestly we are not understanding this situation seriously. 🤷🏻‍♀️
During the wars you are talking about, many people relied on home grown food/villages to survive, or money and gold to get food, so we had to find ways to get by and it was hard, so it is not the same situation now, when we live in the cities mostly and rely on supermarkets.
It is true we are less panicky, we do not emit that behavior, as we went through a lot, so in that sense you are right. 💜
