  • It's a cute little scooter that folds up into the size of a suitcase that you can take to class, to the office, or just around your neighborhood. Say hello to the Honda Motocompacto, the modern-day reincarnate of the cult class Motocampo from the 1980s. Just like the original, the Motocompacto can easily fold up and fit into the trunk of your car, but the Motocompacto is really aimed at people who may not even have a car. The quiet electric scooter is Honda's first attempt at a last-mile solution for folks who would rather glide than walk to their nearby destination. Motorcycle.com's Road Test Editor Troy Siahaan took it for a spin to see what it's all about.
    This video is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the Motocompacto. There's a lot more to cover, so don't forget to read the full written review here: www.motorcycle.com/bikes/manu...

    So, it directly competes with standing electric scooters that fold for storage.
    You can get those with a similar top speed at Costco or amazon very inexpensively.
    I love the history of it and I’m glad you shared it and that the story was kept in the edit for the video.
    I’m not convinced that this is different enough or better than simple alternatives.
    The “hover board” style electric boards are falling out of fashion. They don’t have as much battery (less range and less top speed). There are several mono-wheel electric transports that are fairly popular. It seems like this competes with those.
    Aren’t Gen Z infamously not getting driver’s licenses? That makes this feel like it’s a solotuon looking for a problem.

      you shouldn't need a license to drive it in most states or countries, considering the engine. being able to sit on it also makes it more accessible than a standing scooter.

      @@prisyum There may be a misunderstanding. This is a "last mile" device. Designed to be used in conjunction with a car. They spoke about this and the history of this with the original gas powered scooter at one point.
      This isn't intended to replace a car. This is intended to be used in addition to your car for the .... last mile ... of transportation.
      So, they would expect users to have a car and driver's license, and to also have this device.

      @@joeblow5037 yep ... super inexpensive hover boards were in the news for exploding years ago. That's not really the case with the modern versions or the other things I mentioned.
      Solid joke though. 👍

    • @prisyum
      @prisyum 6 місяців тому

      @@zero11010sure, that might be its primary intended use case, it doesn't have to be exclusively for people to keep in their trunks. people who live in denser urban areas could absolutely use it as a replacement for a car. while its on the pricier side, people in smaller apartments or dorm rooms could benefit greatly from its smaller form factor versus typical ebikes. it'd be a good way to get to work, run errands, do light grocery shopping, etc.
      it's cute and customizable, light enough to carry around, small enough to stash in a closet. i could see it being really popular with the zoomers that don't have a license.

    Do not see the advantage over standard electric scooters with 8" wheels. They are more compact, weight less, easier and quicker to fold /unfold than this Honda's design exercise.

    This product is for people who are too lazy to walk a mile. This product takes at least 2 minutes to assemble and 2 minutes to packup. By the time the lazy person has put the bike together I'm half way to my destination. Theres a disconnect between the idea and the reality.

    • @Nine_883

      Some people cannot walk a mile because of bad feet, ankles, knees, or hips. They can ride a little scooter. You are an a-hole. My grandmother would love something like this. Grow up.

      It took him 90 seconds, in what seemed like his second time doing it and unfamiliar trial and error, so easily reducible to 45 seconds. The range is 12 miles not 1, so you’re about 35x off base by the numbers. More importantly, shockingly, some people buy things for the novelty, personal enjoyment, emotional attachment, memory making, early adopter experience, etc and not as a spreadsheet of 1 mile walk math equations.
      But trolls be trollin’

    • @c0c0asauce
      @c0c0asauce 6 місяців тому +1

      @@Winter-zv1dv You are not including the time it takes the lazy person to pull the scooter out of the car. I used a mile in my comment because "last mile solution" is in the title of the video. I don't know why you felt the need to bring up the max range but it's really limited to a 6 mile range if you want to get back to the car. Being completely reliant on charging at the destination is a terrible idea.
      I'm sorry you feel like I'm poo pooing on your parade because I don't like this E scooter tarted up as a $1000 "transport of the future".

    • @kencai6803
      @kencai6803 6 місяців тому +1

      "Last mile" is a raw concept, it doesn't mean has to be 1 mile exactly, for example, if you in the school like UC Davis as I was, you will know how this thing works, where you can't access your car to the class and have to walk for at least 10+ mins to get to the class, this is the perfect solution. The trade off for suitcase size scooter is the assembly process, simple is that.

    • @kencai6803
      @kencai6803 6 місяців тому +1

      And BTW I went to the dealership yesterday, where the sales guy show me how to assembly and pack up each just in a min, is a simple process when you get familiar with it.
