Well done mate , the big huck on the 85 slabby was brilliant ..
worked for a Suzuki dealer in Perth & used to buy these written off from the insurance company’s
after doing the quotes , then the 1100’s came out in 86 ..
so it was Gixxers everywhere , Suzuki went backwards with the slingshots , so this was their glory days.

Awesome 'old skool' race bike build. Old but Gold!! I had the road GSXR1100 back in the day and absolutely loved it's power, weight and handling. You bike looks like the Factory works race bike of that era with the great way you put it together 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

When new, a thing of wonder.
These looked back then like endurance racers with indicators and plates.
The welds on the alloy frame had that excellent backstreet look to them.
It was exciting just to see one leave a junction.
Back in the day, the factory AMA riders had a trick frame with (essentially) a part of another frame welded onto it, outside the existing one. Lord knows what they were doing to those bikes to feel the need of a stiffer frame. Wild stuff. Lovely to see one still at it.

Phil 🏍️ 1000 gsxr r L8 origins limited n °14 France 🇫🇷

I've owned many GSXR's, including both the 1986 1100 and 750. If you're going to track a first generation, it's best to trash the entire stock front end, and bolt on a upside-down fork from a 1991 to 1995 GSXR, including the front wheel and brake assembly. You'll get WAY better braking, much better dampening, plus, you'll lose the 18-inch front wheel for an easier to tire 17-inch front rim. Also, a set of Kehin Flatslide carbs will wake that puppy up in the HP department.

    • @goooooofast
      @goooooofast  4 місяці тому

To race it I can’t have a modern front end. It does have an ‘89 750 front end (slightly extended) and an’89 1100 rear wheel.

For anybody who has never ridden one, the Mark One GSXR should have been the eternal standard for sporting motorcycles. Why? The first principle was LIGHT WEIGHT. I have been riding (and developing) my '86 GSXR1100 since new and even though I have newer machines it has always been my go-to fun ride. On a long ride (250+ miles) a lightweight machine adds to the ride because it requires so little effort to ride fast.

Spent a lot of time on the net shopping for bits n pieces but my local Suzuki dealer was very helpful and had all the parts I needed.

@@goooooofast Wonderful Job !!!! I had a 1986 (Red) here in the States. RES (Racing Engine Service, Ron Scrima) built Yoshimura motor ( cams, pipe, .5mm pistons) and "track tricks" that I raised hell street racing with. You had me thinking about this for a few days now being it was so long ago. I know we tried flat slides but got good horsepower and drivebility with Ninja 1000 (I think 36mm) carbs that believe it or not actually bolted right on !!!! It was a screamer !!! We got the weight down to about 370 pounds with perhaps half a tank of fuel. I looked through some old boxes hoping to find Ron's dyno numbers but could not find them. If I remember right, we got about 117-120 HP at the rear wheel..... I think. Torque I can not recall. It would eat just about anything for lunch in a sprint at the time. Here in Texas the DPS had 5.0 Mustangs and I could out run them easily !!! .... LOL...... Good times and I am just happy to be alive so I could watch you progress through your build. Thank you for bringing back some wonderful memories !!!!!! And remember, the rubber side should always be down !!!! 🙂

They had the RG500 gamma, the GSXR, the FZ750, the GPZ600R and the NS400 Honda and was just wishing I could pass my test. Luckily I managed to later that year but did not have the cash for a new bike so ended up with an X7 that rattled like a bag of spanners!

Impressive job there, buddy..... I always wish I had mechanic skills but I struggle hard even to lube a chain. :(

      Thanks mate.
It was a big learning experience for me too. I was lucky to have help from a mechanic mate.

Beautiful build 👍 Have a soft spot for these Oilers ;)
Can I get details on the exhaust? Can't see for sure but appears to be the New Yosh unit but the link pipe seems to be a high-mount?

It’s not a real Yoshi unfortunately. I had an old badge and stuck it on. I acquired the exhaust with some other used parts I bought. One day I might upgrade it.

      😁
I enjoy riding it at the track.
It’s no modern bike , but it still gives a good feeling of acceleration.
