- After so much waiting, I finally pushed my GSXR 750 in my garage.
"Beginning is half of the whole job" they say in my country and it seems they are right! So in this video I started the disassembly of this old Gixxer 750, in order to restore the whole thing: fairings, forks, rear arm, engine, frame, brakes, suspension, electrical parts, you name it!
My goal is to make it look like the day it walked out of the Hamamatsu factory. I'm going to use all original Suzuki parts (wherever that is possible) to bring it back to its original glory!
0:10 Out of the garage
0:53 Let's start with the fairings
4:24 Fuel tank
5:09 Around the frame

I can’t wait to get going on my 1985 Gsx750 … this video is a great inspiration . Thank you Chris
Thank you for your comment! I appreciate it! Your '85 GSXR is the forefather of mine and every other gixxer's. Much respect! All the best with it!
I just found your channel today. First time. It was part 14. Im at part 1 now. Im sure its gonna be really educational for me to watch all the parts on this rebuild. Thanks Chris
You're very welcome! It is my pleasure. Please upload videos of your progress and share it with us! 🙏
I loved my 1988. I know every part like the back of my hand, even though I haven't touched one in 30 years. I traveled coast to coast many times just to race that thing. Thank you!
@1bvm174 thank you for sharing your memory with us!
Can I ask you a question. Where do the vacuum lines in the top of the carbs terminate too?
@@Chris-o2s9j Our bikes were USA spec but I only remember one line going to the airbox
@@Chris-o2s9j they are vent tubes. They end up in the air filter box
@@ChrisSofos I have the stock air box and there are no outlets at all in the air box they can go to???
Enjoyed your video, really some kind of art!😎
Got a gsxr600 myself of 1992, looks a kind of simular, working on the carbs right now.
Good luck man. Be safe.
Thank you very much for your comment. I never worked on a 600, but as you said, the carbs should be very similar. All the best 👍
Ah! It's nice to see these Slingshot Era GSX-R's receive this kind of love and attention. Thanks for sharing your project! I'm in until the completion of it.
It is my pleasure! Thank you for watching my videos!!!
Merci beaucoup pour le partage et le montage de cette vidéo instructive et vivement la prochaine
you are very welcome! It's my pleasure!
My first big bike..so cool. And Rainbow music too. Awesome.
I'm happy to see more people loving these motorcycles! As for the music, I have no idea what kind it is. I just added it there 😅
I will watch all the sequence of your videos of restoration of this bike particularly, gsxr750 1988 . I want to learn from you. I want to ride my bike someday jeje 👍
Thanks so much for your comment! Always happy to be of help 😊
Excellent video. I am looking forward to your build, as I have a 1989 GSXR750K and it needs more work than your bike. Think I am looking at a top end rebuild as well as all of the normal things of a bike of it's year. Ride safe Cheers
Thanks for your comment! I'll resume rebuild sometime in October, as I'm overseas for holidays at the moment.
Keep up the good work
@bradlybaldwin9564 I'll do my best. Thank you very much!!!
I write you from the city of La Paz, Baja , Mexico.
Saludos amigo ✌️
Nice video , i have a 1991 750 and going to restore it this year ! Have the bike since 2002
One of my favourites as well!!! Nice to know there's people like you out there, looking after these legendary bikes!
Yes i realy likes these bikes , never going to sell mine .
Do you have a good shop where i can buy the bearings and the other parts for the engine ?
@@danielmayerus9260 the shops I buy my parts are cmsnl.com and megazip.net
Alternatively you can look up the part codes there and look on eBay as well.
On megazip i see the color codes for the bearings , thank you very much for the help
Super j'avais exactement la même
Model 88 sortie de concession mais en bleu
Superbe moto
Avant ça j'ai eu sa grande sœur la 1100 modèle 87 sortie de concession magnifique 👍
just picked up an 88or a 90 not to sure and excited to dive in!
Congratulations on your purchase! The '90 model has up side down front end. The previous models have the normal front.
@@ChrisSofos is there any possible way to get images of the wiring harness or a video showing it? mine is hacked up and I'm trying to piece it together before purchasing another
@@chatty_t978 sent me an email, and I'll try to send pictures of the wiring loom from the original manual

Exelente !! Gracias x la traduccion.
I used to service my 1985 GSXR myself, using the manual, and remember taking the faring off. Was a great bike, except for the frame, that was made more for the racetrack than the bumpy roads. Too many tank slappers.
I think I know what you mean 😅
Add a steering damper, I got a really good adjustable one from china for about £25, seems to be good quality too, ohlins are seriously expensive for what they are. Give it a go.
Saudações do brasileiras!
@willians5790 Hello from Australia!
Super machine j'adore 😍
Δεν είμαι και εγώ εκεί κοντά να ξεβιδωνα καμιά βίδα ρε φίλε 😂😂😂😂. Πολύ θα μου άρεσε !!!
Great work, where did you your parts from.
@mikeellis5714 thank you! Some from ebay. But if I want brand new parts go to www.megazip.net
I have a 1989 Gsxr 750 slingshot I can jump it off and it runs strong But when riding it it cuts off and acts like the battery is dead is there any pointers on what it could be
It can be the battery (in which case you'll have to check it and check if it's charging properly).
It can also be fuel starvation. These motorcycles have no fuel pump. They have a peacock that operates using the engine's vacuum. If that system is failing, then no fuel can go to the carburettors. Hence, the problem. I hope this helps!
The handling on these bikes is kinda scary!
To me, especially this model was absolutely perfect! When there's brand new tires and a good tarmac, the knee will scrape the asphalt. I felt perfectly safe throughout riding it.
Thanks, very helpful tutorial :)
I'm so glad my video is of help. Thank you!
Hey Chris which front stand do you use for the
Gixer? Thanks
@@henryparker6931 I bought a La Corsa years ago, and I'm very happy with it

L'ho avuta anch'io,la mia era Blu e Bianca.😀
I love that color combination too my friend!
Good vidéo , i have too Gsxr 1100_89_92
Hi there !
I love this bike to , i got one exactly as yours but I have a problem with the engine, it is stucked , doesn't move and I've search in other videos and it seems the problem is with the crankshaft bearings and the conecting rods bearings too. My problem is that the conecting rod numbers to know the color of the bearing was ereased and I don't know how to proced. Worst thing is I'm not a mechanic !!
I'm not a mechanic either, so don't worry about that part 😆
It seems that your engine has seized for some reason. Maybe it was left without oil? If that is the case, I don't think it's worth repairing it, as you'll need a new crankshaft and camshafts as well. The cost will be too high!!!
If your engine is not seized and the problem is elsewhere, then it might be worth repairing it.
Suzuki has another way of checking the sizes of the bearings (crankshaft and con-rods) in their manual. I'll check it out and if so, I'll make another video to explain in detail how and what.
@@ChrisSofos I'm glad you answer so quick. I apologize my english may not be very good ja! But I'll do my best.
I'll pay atention to the video you mention will up load.
The history of me having this bike is a little as a headacke jaja but I insist on it but it seems that at the end one has to do the job.
@@ChrisSofos 2 years ago I took the bike to the workshop because the engine couldn't started , finally it did but the mechanic sugested me to replace the cranckshaft bearings and the con rod bearings. They finally put the same bearings it had, just polish them and put them back. I remember 3 of the conecting rods move +/- easily but not the 4th one. Once the motor was finaly armed the mechanic tried to move the crankshaft with a wrench but could not. The proces was done with out oil.
@@uaxacetznab961 Hmmm... that's a shame they did just that!
It seems that you may need another engine. From what you tell me, I don't think it was just the bearings need replacement.
Find another engine to put on and keep this one as spare parts (covers, valves, rocker arms, etc).
@@ChrisSofos ... I'll think about it. Some one around here has a 750 engine but is a Katana model. I'm going to see if it fits into this one 🤷♂️
The fact that the Exup valve has been removed can affect the engine operation. Despite that, you need to check first the condition of the spark plugs (check if they are clean and the have the correct gap). Then check if the rubber inlet manifolds are in good condition and tight, so there's no leaks. Then check the carburetors. Are the carburetor's jets all clean? Are they the correct size? Are all the passages clean? What is the conditions of the needles? What is the position of the needles too? The vacuum diaphragms? Any holes on them?
You need to check all that. And the best way to do it, is to remove them and inspect them.
I got 1989gsxr750rk last Saturday
That's the 1989! You're a lucky guy!!!
I'm restoring a similar 88 750 Slingshot but I'm up-grading the brakes & Suspension on mine, good Video except for the crap music
I like you like the video. As for the music, not many options on non-copyrighted music 😐
@@ChrisSofos easy, don't use it.
@@johnpartridge7623 or don't watch it. Easier ☺
@@ChrisSofos Thanks for the tip.
It didn't need restoration!
Its a few cracks, scratches, etc, but have seen far worse. It's a reasonable example for it's age, yes. Some people like really tidy things, and why not, eh.
