This young man is a genius! This took me less than 10 min. Everything works great. Forget all those other hacks, magnets, peeling old labels and taping paper inside the machine. This is nice and clean. Thanks Tim!
Thank you Tim, I was so sick of cutting lids ect....You made it look so simple to do. For a disabled older woman living on a fixed income trying to raise a 5 year old child that is not even mine. This just saved me a ton of money and was so easy and simple to do. You helped me to love my 2.0 keurig machine. I am right now enjoying a delicious cup of cappuccino from cups I spent $60.00 on and was mot able to use before ((HUGZ)) thank you
We were forced to upgrade to a 2.0 when our Vue stopped working under warranty. Very much dislike this machine have had nothing but problems and replacements. After months of using temporary hacks they all stopped working. Found your video and my husband did two machines today. Every easy and worked like a charm. He is Thankful to finally have his travel size back and can brew strong again! Everything works great and he says THANK YOU... THANK YOU... THANK YOU!
I spent several days looking for a good hack that didn't involve using empty cups or tape. This was by far the best I found and it took me about as long as you to do it. Thanks for sharing !!
Thank you. Worked like a charm. Though I did see other videos, yours was the quickest. Rough as hell, but quick. One thing did different (beside being gentler on my machine, lol) was I did not removed the magnet sensor. The 2 wires are long enough to cut, solder and use heat shrink tubing (not a fan of using electrical tape myself) and leave the sensor in place.
Thanks Tim. It didn't take much longer than it does in your video. I appreciate that you got to the point quickly and explained each step clearly. Well done.
Thank you. Worked great for me. The green wire alone was sufficient as I had bought a reusable filter from Walmart, but it only gave me the option of 12 oz, and I wanted 16. plus, I could not use it for the Carafe although the filter was made for it. By simply cutting the green as explained here, I am now able to use any size and the Carafe. I also can use my old reusable filters for smaller cups. This is quite simple and does not damage the machine (except for the green wire being cut, obviously. Remember, to be able to brew larger cups, you will still need a reusable filter for 2.0 (Walmart - Ebay) unless you remove the magnet as displayed here. I preferred not to remove the magnet to avoid damaging the machine. It looked, in the demonstration, more difficult and prone to break some pieces. Now, I can enjoy my K560 with all format! Finished the need to brew twice and clean two filters for my 16 oz travel mug. Many thanks!!!
Tim, I wanted to thank you for this video. You showed how fast and easy this was to do, and I just finish doing it to my Keurig. You might want to make a couple of notes about how the top piece goes back on, since I did have a little trouble getting it back on, and the clips end up having to be broken to get it apart. At least I'm happy now and don't have to spend money on other mods.
Thank you, Tim!!!! This only took me about 3 minutes to do the hack and it worked beautifully!. I only needed to cut the green wire because I don't make coffee any larger than 10 oz.
Tim, thank you for this!! I just picked one of these up despite the restrictions, and primarily use it for hot water. I am going to to this this afternoon!!! I hate that the only option for hot water is 6oz!! This doesnt' change the option to brew other cups, or the curafe, just opens up favorites and other water options for me. THANK YOU!
Tim, you're awesome! I cannot tell you how frustrated I've been with this 2.0. Bought it and it wouldn't work with the K-cups that it came with! Called Keurig and they sent me another one...it wouldn't work with official K-Cups 90% of the time. Applied your hack in less than 10 minutes, even using my teeth to strip the wires :-) Worked like a charm. The magnet and the taped K-Cup ring didn't work for me, but yours did. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
GREAT JOB! I knew about the green wire agreed! I knew it brews hotter water for a better cup ,agreed I knew you could take a yellow sharpie/bltman and cover the sensor.I think its a fantastic video same as josh gardner and kate grey applause to her for the green wire WHAT PISSES ME OFF IS ANYONE SAYING ANYTHING BADLY ABOUT THIS YOUNG MAN he saved you tons of money and for someone to say anything as foolish as umm it saves you 10 cents per cup youre a putz. THANK YOU TO TIM AND HIS STEPDAD NICE CLEAN JOB!
Great job!! Thanks for sharing. The mod is very easy to follow. It seems since the posting Keuring covered the magnet with a cover and screws. I was not able to pull the magnet as video demonstrated. Above the cover there is a board that I was worried that I might damage. I kept the magnet in place. I cut the two black wires as far from the board as possible. With matches I burned the tip of the two wires to expose the metal. Soldered as the video demonstrated.
Nice! I discovered the reed switch wires (black ones) on my own, but I kept using a "freedom clip" with a green dot glued on. The clip kept falling off so I'm glad to see that green wire hack... much more permanent! :)
Thanks for the great instructional video Tim, it helped alot! I had previously tried the magnet trick but that stopped working after a couple weeks so I am glad I was able to fix it permanently your way.
Pretty good. 👍🏻 I think you're the only one Ive seen online that takes off the top piece like you're supposed to. Everyone else fights with trying to take the side cover off first. 😅
You don´t have to access to the magnetic sensor, just loose the original magnet in the coffee machine and let in the down position, this complemented very nice with cutting the green cable.
So I guess what you are saying is I will not be able to access the auto on feature... That is really the one I was interested in. Thank you for your help. I may just stick to the magnet hack. You've done a great job with this!
No, no, no, it still has the auto on feature. After a normal length of time it reverts to the clock and you can adjust your settings from there. All it does is trick the machine into thinking that a k-cup is inserted after you lift up and close the lid
+Tim Kirst So for the menu, does it unlock it to brew a larger cup like 14,16 or 18 oz without the larger Kcup or do you need to use the larger Kcup to get that part to work? I have been using a bright yellow tab taped over the sensor and it doesn't always read the standard size cups...very frustrating. I am hesitant to do any wire cutting or removing. Could you please post a follow up video going through all of them menus just to show that it does work?
+Jaci Jirik Yes you get access to the full menu & you can brew a 10, 12, 14, 16 etc oz cup of coffee using a regular k-cup. You don't need to use the large k-cuk (vue) unless you want to brew a carafe.
Very nice. If no ones told you, there's another magnetic sensor at the base right behind the epicenter of the curve. It detects the magnets on the special Carafe mugs, probably join those wires too.
Mind you that you don't need to use solder and soldering gun. I use it to make sure the wires stay together, you could use tape but moisture might make the tape come off and glue would make it difficult to remove them if need be.
I have a K2.0 - 200, I just unlocked the full menu which is cool. Mine has the older black and white screen. I don't have any green wires though, just a bunch of black wires and 1 red one which is obviously most likely the power. I think that perhaps my model doesn't have the "DRM" thing with the KCups maybe?
=-. l,Tim, I just checked the yellow wire and it is ok. Only the green one is cut. I think I have checked the two wires that go to the switch. Are the Black and White ones on the left side What I get is the little round emblem on the right bottom of the screen. Is it supposed to be solid? mine has lines that run through it. and that is all I can get, Please help me.
Thanks for the great video, Tim. I've tried to get to the black wires but I've already broken 2 of the 5 tabs. In the video, it looked like you just quickly broke them off. Are they not needed?
Accessing the green wire from the top is a lot easier than taking apart the body like another video I saw, but I'll keep looking, because I think there is still a hack to be done concerning the magnet sensor at the bottom for the carafe stand. I assume you could find that and short the wires as well.
Sweet! I was so mad when that error message popped up on my Keurig screen & I ran STRAIGHT to UA-cam!! Thanks! Can you tell me if it's true this hack makes the water temperature higher?
Does it matter which 2.0 model, the wire setup on the 300,400,500 are all the same? Someone commented on another video the board setup and wires were in a different location on one of the models
Worked good for months but then it wouldn't brew a non-keurig K-cup, which was a Tim Hortons brand which had "keurig compatible" on the label. Also tired a Timothy k-cup and the same thing, it just stopped. Yes I did snip the green wires. My standard San Francisco Bay works fine I can set it at 14 ounces works great.
Will this work without cutting the green wire? Just joining the black ones? I did the black ones and the vue settings aren't coming up. I really don't have a problem with the k cup thing because I bought a refillable cup from bed bath and beyond that works. I have the 550 model. Thanks for your help!
This might have to do with the color of the refillable, because the magnet trick doesn't seem to work with the Freedom clip. I've never tested it by simply joining the blacks without cutting the green. If you went so far to join the black wires I'd just go ahead and cut the green.
Tim, I am thinking of ordering the 550. I was wondering if this hack would still allow me to utilize the clock, wallpaper and auto on/off features. I am new to Keurig and I do not know what the vue menu allows. Thanks.
Tim, I did exactly what you did, however when I plugged in, the little light sign in lower right hand of the window, but I can not get it to start up again. I am dead in the Water. Suggestions m??? thanks
do you mean the touchscreen won't respond? If so make sure you didn't loosen the harness when doing this. Make sure you didn't cut the yellow wire instead of the green one. Also make sure you didn't unseat the two wires that go to the switch that actuates when you lift the handle, just wiggle them, they're kind of sensitive.
I did this modification and it worked for a day. Now the brewer heats up and will not brew. Screen works but it will not pump water through the K-cup. Thinking it may be something else or I should re install what I cut out?
This is a common problem. If I'm right it sounds like that it is clogged. Take a paper clip or a wire and just put it in the top needle, of im right this should unclog it. You see this happens a lot when using a regular K-cup. You see though you should have a large cup underneath it because a lot of water will run through when you run it after unclogging the keurig.
It may work but I honestly never tried. I'm going to say maybe but I'm not sure if you could even strip the wires back far enough and even then there isn't a lot of clearance there.
You can brew a carafe without a carafe cup using this mod, you just need a carafe in place which it isn't here. You probably could get away with the smallest carafe size out of an extra bold Kcup like Emeril's if you don't like terribly strong coffee. Strong Vue cups definitely work.
Do you know if you don't clip the black wires for the magnet sensor if it will still work for a Carafe? I got the Freedom Clip from Rogers family coffee, and all you get is one menu setting which only gives you up to a 10oz cup setting, if you put the Carafe under it, it says on the screen to remove the Carafe because this Kcup is not designed for a Carafe. Thanks
It won't work with a freedom clip because the clip doesn't unlock the cue cup settings. Other than using a magnet this is the only way to unlock the menu however you still need the carafe because there is another sensor in the bottom that you can't access from the top.
The magnet trick doesn't always work. It hardly worked on mine at all, you had to use a tiny neodymium magnet and have it placed precisely and even then it worked about half the time. If there is anything different about the K560 you'd know when you opened it though and wouldn't have to proceed any further anyway.
Dude you're awesome. Thanks for sharing this information with the world. Doing the "hack" this way keeps everything looking clean on the machine, i.e no magnets or tape hanging off of it. You have a great method of getting the carafe menu completely unlocked. But If people are hesitant to cut their green wire however, there is a way to get around the non k-cup, ink reading sensor thing. There is a company called The Rogers Family Company. They sell coffee out of San Francisco. Anyhow, they make this clip called a "Freedom Clip" that just snaps onto where the ink reading sensor sits. Its super easy and is not permanent. Best thing is they are FREE! Here is the link to request one. www.gourmet-coffee.com/Keurig-DRM-Freedom-Clip.html I just thought I'd share this free information along with your great video. Thanks again.
I have The Rogers Family Company "freedom clip". It works great for cups only though. I put the thinnest bead of super glue where it clips on and have never had a problem. Looks totally stock. But, can pull it off to do carafes now! Props to Tim for showing us a more professional way to address the issue. Thanks Tim!
So basically from this video get get some wirecutters.. a screw driver and just start messing and poking away at the thing and hope it works? That's about all I got from this video. !
This hack allows you to brew travel mug sizes as well, which you could do on previous models so it isn't necessarily about saving money it also adds versatility and conveniences. Additionally the brewer brews hotter on Vue cup mode, which you used to be able to select on the old Platinum models but can't on this model. You can also use refillable again (I don't but some people do). Seeing as that it can be done in under 5 minutes and is one time I don't see it as a lot of work, it is easier than these people tearing the whole machine down completely.
It's actually not as drastic as it seems. It is real easy and less work than it seems. Not only do you save 10¢ per cup but you can save time with doing this and also it is more permanent than using a magnet and such. Also this doesn't destroy the Keurig like other methods. Some people will see this and see it as a really good way to do it. Others like you think drastic. All a matter of opinion I just figured I'd show this option. Thanks for the feedback!
Jo you are a classic putz ,just go live in front of a over priced green logo coffee shop! .10cents a cup x 5 cups a day 7 x a week 365 days go ahead do the math now is that drastic bet you live w your mom yep drastic yes its people like you who just speak before they think
Little Mama J You shouldn't be buying a $250 coffee machine if you can't afford an extra $182.50 per year (0.10x5x365). The hack is kinda cool, and surprisingly easy, but the machine was designed for convenience. Also, you shouldn't be drinking 5 cups of coffee a day. Jeez, maybe you should get get your heart checked by a doctor for unusual palpitations?
First let me just start by saying "where does it state that I myself drink coffee?" Second I didn't buy a coffee maker, I've never even ever owned one! Third, I make Chai from scratch something I learned while residing in India for four months. In fact Chai is healthy and has healing properties, I can't say that about coffee. Caffeine sucks all the water from your body dehydrating you, while tea is way better unless we're just stating the obvious caffeine.. Ginger aids in digestion and helps with inflammation as well as having other health benefits. Tea contains antioxidants and although people have different family recipes but the other basic main ingredient would be cardamom some add cinnamon great for regulating ones blood sugar great if you're diabetic. Then there are cloves the oil is good for you as well. So I was simply not at first on a personal attack on you but rather to say the average person who's day begins btwn 4:30-6:30am do in fact drink 5 cups of coffee and very large ones at that! I can't even begin to tell you how much a large cup of coffee goes for at the ridiculous place with the green round logo because I have NEVER personally walked in and ordered a coffee let alone a large size but from what I do know it's ridiculous that people spend the day running in and out of that facility and have a large coffee for friggin lunch. I do want to apologize for taking my frustration out on you directly and personally. I hope you except.. But what he did was take actually not a $250.00 coffee machine but rather a $139.00 machine and in fact make it into whatever the k550 pro goes for! And I thought it was fantastic! I don't know what the pods or k-kups go for but I'm sure the brand definitely has something to do with it. Agree? So it's actually more than $0.10 cents a cup! I can tell you that I am beyond amused that people raging from 19-50 yrs of age are even hacking a damn coffee machine in the first place. They say you normally get what you pay for but in this case I have learned from all the you tube craziness is that this 2.0 is a combo of the Vue or whatever it is called and one of the keyring, they screwed up and down actually because from what I do understand is Canada hates it and well we hate it between it not taking the cups from companies that they enjoy to it only reading the ridiculous rim of some kind of ink to wanting a bigger size cup to... well you get the picture frankly it makes me laugh just so hard that people have tried to move mountains for a friggin cup of coffee REALLY? COFFEE? LINK! but with all I've seen for entertainment purposes this was fantastic and impressive without a doubt. Also from what I even understand the difference in these models is honestly the amount of water one has in the side tank. But the K 300 is a black and white screen holds 40oz of water the option of 4-6-& 8ox cups of coffee or tea and doesn't have a clock and I believe it goes for $139.99 originally $149.99 & Tim and his Dad or as it said step-dad turned this $139.99 into not a $200.00 machine but a $475.00 machine in two steps so it's even more impressive. It now gives you the menu features of using any brand cup a cup where you can fill it yourself (eco-fill) /eco-friendly heats the water way hotter giving a better tasting cup of coffee, you can use every feature it has and basically instead of going to a overpriced coffee shop bring this unit to the office and you're saving $15.00 not. $. 10 cents. You can say screw you to coffee shops and restaurants and so now that you worked your ass off, don't have to leave work make whatever you want tea, coffee hot Coco, iced coffee a latte so now it's really 3 x 5x5 or six 52wks 365days a yr cause you can bring it home and back to work wow what's that equal do the math? Seriously do it! Because I'll tell you no way would I work my ass of to spend (let's say you make $650.00 a week and can go buy a big can of coffee for $12-15.00 from the supermarket you don't need to buy filters so you save there. I think I've made my point even without wearing my glasses and a cell phone I need to go bring in for repair cause the HTC one sucks. Again do the math! and Joseph Damigella I apologize for being rude and hope you will except my apologies. But I'm serious when I say do the math and I am sure you agree that it's the best hack even if you should not have to hack a coffee maker for coffee LMAO it is rather amazing, but it still is practical to own one of these types of machines that I think we both agree on but Mr coffee still rocks I'm sure, never owned one of those but it is what it is! Have a good day! And pardon my typos ty
I don't know if I want to trust an approach from someone who attacks things so aggressively with a screwdriver! But seriously: Has no one found a software hack yet???
Umm...I don't think I would want to break my $200 machine just to be able to use a non-licensed K-cup. There are plenty of K-cups available in my area that works in my 2.0 machine. Plus there's the free freedom clip that does not require you to break your machine. I think this is the most dumbest video I've seen concerning the 2.0.
It doesn't break the machine. The machine works better after the modification. You can use refillables. You can brew travel mugs from Kcups, which the freedom clip doesn't allow, plus the freedom clip falls off all too easily. Also locking it in Vue cup mode means it brews hotter. This is clean, fast and easy. While the video does not show it, the information of how it was done allows you to modify the procedure if you wish to restore it to factory if for some odd reason you wish to.
This young man is a genius! This took me less than 10 min. Everything works great. Forget all those other hacks, magnets, peeling old labels and taping paper inside the machine. This is nice and clean. Thanks Tim!

Great vid. No long winded back story, just straight to the point and DONE! Works awesome. Good job!

You have a soldering iron but no wire strippers lol
awesome video, I watched a lot of videos before this , wish I would have seen this one first. My Keurig had stopped recognizing the cups. Great job
The ole tooth wire stripper eh? I like it, done that many a time.
Thanks for the great instructional video Tim, it helped alot! I had previously tried the magnet trick but that stopped working after a couple weeks so I am glad I was able to fix it permanently your way.
I like the straightforwardness of the video...good job!
Pretty good. 👍🏻 I think you're the only one Ive seen online that takes off the top piece like you're supposed to. Everyone else fights with trying to take the side cover off first. 😅
Yea baby , this is THE BEST & QUICKEST FIX Thanks Tim
Got it tim. Broke a couple of tabs. Did everything that you suggested and "bingo" . We have ignition.
You don´t have to access to the magnetic sensor, just loose the original magnet in the coffee machine and let in the down position, this complemented very nice with cutting the green cable.
Thank you!!! i JUST did the hack in about 7 min. WORKS like a charm!!!!
By far the BEST and EASIEST MOD. THANKS A MILLION
So I guess what you are saying is I will not be able to access the auto on feature... That is really the one I was interested in. Thank you for your help. I may just stick to the magnet hack. You've done a great job with this!

Any questions? Any difficulty? Feedback appreciated! Hope this helps!

Kids knows his stuff! Best hack out on UA-cam by far...
thank you worked like a charm, cut the green and soldered the black mag wire.
Very nice. If no ones told you, there's another magnetic sensor at the base right behind the epicenter of the curve. It detects the magnets on the special Carafe mugs, probably join those wires too.
We know about that but we just figured that if you are not paying attention it could make a mess or even burn you if you are not being careful.
So we just thought it would be better to keep the carafe setting locked without the carafe
Tim Kirst I just taped on a magnet I pulled out of a hard drive. 👍🏻
Thx, It took me like 30 seconds, easiest way to hack it ! Really appreciated!
Simple, precise and confirmed to work, thanks a ton.
No problem.
Don't forget to subscribe and like the video!
Mind you that you don't need to use solder and soldering gun. I use it to make sure the wires stay together, you could use tape but moisture might make the tape come off and glue would make it difficult to remove them if need be.
I have a K2.0 - 200, I just unlocked the full menu which is cool. Mine has the older black and white screen. i broke 4 tabs...wonder if it will dp something to my machine
can you just cut the green wire and use a magnet like an other hack suggest and not cut, solder and tape?

The second half of the video is that magnet hack.
Tim Kirst
Can
the black wires to the top sensor be traced back to the harness where
the green wire is? It would be easier to short it there.
The black wires for the magnet sensor in the front connect to the circuit board under the display, they don't feed put the back
Someone commented on another video the board setup and wires were in a different location on one of the models
thank you so much man took me 10 minutes to do and the machine is awesome now!
Likely something else, we still use the original machine that the hack was developed on and it still works.
Awesome, just hacked mine, simple and now i get the size coffee I want!!!! Cheers!
Great job!! Working perfectly. Done in 5 minutes. Best hack/fix ever. Thank you
Just completed in under 5 minutes, for those who aren't sure about this... DO IT!!!
This guy is a machine, just look at him go! Unlocked the coffee pot in two minutes flat, w00t w00t!!
worked perfect. much better than taping labels to the lid!!!!
Thanks Tim, the hack was simple and it works great. Wife is happy :)
I followed every step, clipped the wired, stripped them and twisted them together. Still not showing full menu! What did I do wrong?!!
Tim, I am thinking of ordering the 550. I was wondering if this hack would still allow me to utilize the clock, wallpaper and auto on/off features. I am new to Keurig and I do not know what the vue menu allows. Thanks.
It only effects the brew water feature, but all you need to do is just brew so,etching without a cup in the machine to brew water.
Pretty cool, just a quick snip of green wire lets you use any kcup.
It worked! Thanks! Also, was that the k400 model you're using ?
Tim, I did exactly what you did, however when I plugged in, the little light sign in lower right hand of the window, but I can not get it to start up again. I am dead in the Water. Suggestions m??? thanks
do you mean the touchscreen won't respond? If so make sure you didn't loosen the harness when doing this. Make sure you didn't cut the yellow wire instead of the green one. Also make sure you didn't unseat the two wires that go to the switch that actuates when you lift the handle, just wiggle them, they're kind of sensitive.
Great job! Let the haters hate, they have nothing better to do.
This method works perfectly on the K200 model.
THANK YOU!!! I just did it and it works like a charm!!
Btw this is not the mod, it is a common problem with the design of the Brewers themselves.
This helps a lot thanks. Actually pretty simple wish I had a soldering gun though, tape works right?
It should but I'm thinking that moisture might cause the tape to get undone.
K, thanks
Would a small wire nut work or is there not enough room?
It may work but I honestly never tried. I'm going to say maybe but I'm not sure if you could even strip the wires back far enough and even then there isn't a lot of clearance there.
Very nice. Don't ever use your teeth. I worked with a licensed electrician who blew his fillings out with that old trick.
Excellent, nice work and explanation
I opened mine up and can not see a green wire, what do I do?
ok, found it, it was buried underneath the other wires
Tim! When are you gonna do your weird food tasting videos again?
any issues after this long
Great tip, But woooo Cowboy, I wouldnt be jamming a screwdriver at that force on a $150 dollar Kuerig. But I guess you got the job done. Lmao
*vue
does this work on a k560? I just want the full menu.
K560 is just a Costco model as far as I remember, should be exactly the same
+yrly59e OK thanks, the reason I ask is the magnet trick doesn't work. so it requires permanent cutting of the wires.
The magnet trick doesn't always work. It hardly worked on mine at all, you had to use a tiny neodymium magnet and have it placed precisely and even then it worked about half the time. If there is anything different about the K560 you'd know when you opened it though and wouldn't have to proceed any further anyway.
Yeah all I'm trying to achieve is the menu portion. So that looks like it requires cutting
Done the hack on three, 2.0. K300, 400 and 500. 2 for friends..
I clipped the black wires but I'm not getting the Vue menu. It came up once or twice but not more. What gives?
You have to solder the black wires together
I really feel safer taking the entire unit apart and disconnecting the wire vs cutting it. Though thats just me
i like ur style homie... easy does it =)
Dude you're awesome.
Sometimes though it does fall off. We had one because we never did it to our own since the warranty was still on it.
I have The Rogers Family Company "freedom clip". It works great for cups only though. I put the thinnest bead of super glue where it clips on and have never had a problem. Looks totally stock. But, can pull it off to do carafes now! Props to Tim for showing us a more professional way to address the issue. Thanks Tim!
Update: Just clipping the green wire did it for me. The menu is open
Of course, don't worry about damaging it...but you already cut the green wire. That looks damaging to me. Wow.
Like your wire stripper. 😎
A+ this worked EZ and is perfect!!!
thank you so much!!
Tim, can yu please hedlp me? I want a cup of coffee. How can I trouble shoot my problem> ?
So basically from this video get get some wirecutters.. a screw driver and just start messing and poking away at the thing and hope it works? That's about all I got from this video. !
All that just to save 10 cents per cup? Seems drastic.
EPIC!!!!
Tim you need to spend less time hacking coffee Brewers, and concentrate on your bad case of dandruff
why can i just get my money back? darn lazy machine,,, i hated.
HOLY CRAP!!! why didn't you just "take your time" and use the proper strippers. it looks like you trashed the unit
