Thanks for this hack. For those of you with a newer machine and don't have a green wire, cut the two black wires in the front. Then do as the video for the rest. Works fine with the full menu.

❤ thank you! This 59 yo woman was able to do this. Keurig is for a coffee station at church. I didn't know it scanned & rejected cups. Now I can supply more affordable cups & not hurt my budget. Thank you again!

Worked perfectly. You can use a couple of guitar picks to pry the tabs off. The trick is to slide the pick under the bottom of the tab and gently twist. Move your way around until it loosens up. Then put the pick in the gap and twist.

I have K400. This hack worked perfectly. Green wire snip. Magnet wires cut, stripped, soldered together and heat-shrinked.
For those worried about the 5 clips, it DOES really help to heat them up, one at a time as you try to release them. Luckily, I happen to have a high-heat gun with concentrator nozzle to direct the heat precisely. I actually got the plastic warm enuf that the tabs became so soft I was able to gently bend them permanently away fully. I reversed the process upon reassembly and molded them back into "closed" position. I don't think regular hair dryer can get the plastic hot enuf to do what I did, but it should suffice to make them supple enuf to avoid snapping them off.
I used a tapered wooden chopstick to sneak in from the side of the clip as I heated it.

I've seen a lot of permanent hack videos here and this is by far the best one as someone else is filming while the guy is hacking so you'll get to see real close up what wires to cut and where. I hacked my K300 like this and it works. You don't have to solder the 2 black wires together, just twist the bare wires together and wrap it up with electrical tape.

Excellent video. Worked flawlessly. I did break all those little clips to do the secondary part, but actually the two screws that you take out are where the buck stops with holding that entire assembly together. Plus a couple tiny drops of Super Glue work😂d fine. Great video!

Concise and clear...excellent instruction. Thank you so much for sharing!! I did the full hack...took about 20 minutes. My Kuerig is better than before and will accept literally ANY pod, large (carafe) or small (cup). Additionally, the extra volume settings give much greater flexibility.

With all the positive comments I must be the only one who is a chicken to try this cause all them plastic parts are so easily broken. Striping the wire and lifting that housing up I believe I’m not equipped to do that and maybe I’m not brave to do it cause my Keurig was expensive when I bought it. Very educational video and I enjoyed it and you made the most detailed video on how to do this. Congrats to you dear man. 🙏🏻

  • @HERMIZ-ClassB-RV-Promaster2500

Ordered and had to return several different reusable k-cups on Amazon. Have a set of 22 purchased from Keurig (was 24 but broke 2) around 2014 I'm guessing, when we bought the machine. They go in a 3 drawer k-cup pod holder for 36 that the Keurig 2.0 500 sits on. I use the filters and we love putting in our own coffee. Favor Peruvian, Somalia, Guatamalen, Kona, etc. These coffees are rich tasting and regal. K-Cup disposable pods do not offer that grade at any price. Figured out our specialty coffees cost about 15 cents each refillable.
Couldn't figure out why none of the new refillable k-cups that matched in size and configuration did not work. Then searched and came upon your tutorial a hour ago. Followed it, first just for the cups with the green wire, then the front magnet wires for the carafe and different cup fill settings. Soldered and shrink wrapped as you suggested. Used your tool to open the retainer flanges. Simple, worked like a charm and presto. Takes an refillable k-cup, does the carafe and has various fill settings from 4oz to 16 oz. You are my hero friend. Who would have known that Keurig set up a reader to sense it's own k-cup labels and magnetic reader! This machine is awesome. I did not want to replace it. It was costly in its day. Thanks again! 🙏

Thanks, for the easy to understand lesson that an older farm girl could understand! I just worked on our Keurig 2.0, we have been using the plastic clip on that never works when it gets steam sweat on it. This works great and I can continue brewing my home grown herbal teas now without the hassle of the plastic clip hack. I used my cell phone tool kit to open things up, and that worked well to help get inside with less damage to clips and such, with your directions.

Sweet! I’ve the same model and will definitely be doing this mod asap! Way better than using an old Keurig lid atop a non-Keurig pod! (Though I was happy to learn of that hack too!) My travel brewer is an off brand (Farberware) and doesn’t care what I brew in it, it’s annoying to have your expensive brewer be less cooperative than your “throwaway”!

I’m trying this but having trouble stripping the wires, which I cut a bit too short. So far I have broken 3 tabs, lost a screw, and I think I cut a black wire when I cut the green wire. Moral: don’t try stuff if you are an amateur. My wife will kill me.

    • @cgasucks
      @cgasucks 4 роки тому +1

I bought my K300 yesterday used for $45 CDN and hacked it. It works but the hardest part for me was to strip the wires as it was really thin. I used a doubled edge razor blade to very carefully strip the insulation. After that it was relatively easy. I broke a tab but realized that is was no big deal since those screws will hold it in place anyways. Don't do this if you're color blind since you MUST cut the green wire to make it work.

The two black wires go to a reed switch similar to a burglary alarm system. The magnet that activates it is in the lower cup holder. These cofee makers have lots of cool parts inside as well. The water level sensor has 4 platinum plated rods in it and could be used for anything from hydroponics to industrial lasers. ❤

I wanted to use the carafe, but the carafe pods are not available, and the label from a regular pod didn't make a reusable carafe pod work. I cut the green wire first. Half of the time, it would not recognize there was a regular pod in the brewer and the carafe pod still didn't work. Rebooting by pulling the plug fixed it most of the time, but not always. So, I did the second hack, finishing with solder and shrink tubing. Now it still only works half of the time, but when it works, I see the full menu. What do I need to fix so it works every time?

The ring does not contain "data" for the machine to "read", it is merely a UV ring, and the keurig sensor is a blacklight and photo lens. I see all these people like you cutting rings, dissecting the machine and making these fancy doohickeys to get their machine to work. It makes me shake my head. It's the most complex solution to a simple problem.
I have had three machines now, all of which work perfectly fine except the sensor stops reading genuine cups. My best guess is either a software error, or oils are on the inside of the lens as well as the outside.
The easiest fix to use any K-Cup in your Keurig is to put a tiny little piece of electrical tape over the lens. This will trick the machine into thinking that there is no K-Cup installed and will just ask if you would like to brew water.
No need to cut lids, dissect the machine, buy upgraded pods, probe it with q-tips, or hack the software...
Just a tiny square of electrical tape...
    Yes, it's really that simple!

What exactly does the full menu do? And will still work if my screen is tempermental? Where my power button is it doesn't always work so we just unplug it to turn it off.

I did this and now my unit will not even recognize any k cup. It is the same message empty. "Lift to begin" the message returns after opening and closing. It went well until I cut the magnet wires

Why would they NOT allow the use of all the menu's? Or is this a lesser model that you modify to work as top of the line?

Hi! I just did exactly what you showed...
My Keurig 2.0 (K-545), when I lift the handle and down, it just gets back to the same original screen, saying please lift the handle to begin...
Like I said, I fallowed you step by step, cut the wires from the magnet, stripped them and joined and taped perfectly, went to the back, cut the green wire just like you did.
Now it wont work...no menu is accessible...

I did both the green wire and the magnetic switch. My Keurig still says this pack wasn’t designed for this Brewer. Please try one of the hundreds of packs with Keurig logo. This is what the whole problem was from the beginning. Could it be something else?

We started getting the oops message even with authentic Keurig pods, so started watching videos and found this one. Locate the DRM that is what causes the oops message. When you see a rectangle clear lens underneath the top when open, that’s the oops sensor (DRM).
The lens was supposed to be clear not dirty, so I just used a soft cloth ( fed it underneath so it could ) to clean it and the original Keurig pods began to work again.
That kept my wife happy without cutting any wires.
