Hi Alina. Such a great video of a very special place. The sun certainly makes a difference. Just wanted to say that the best beaches and resorts are located around the corner of the apartment. That’s where the crystal blue water is for those planning to visit in summer. Glad you enjoyed your stay in the apartment. Welcome back anytime. Thanks for sharing your experiences. Stay safe and take care.

Effie, if someone wanted to visit those beaches around the corner, would they have to stay and be guests of those resorts, or could they stay in Lungomare or Uji i Ftohte, for example, and still go there for the day (rent umbrella and chairs)?

Fantastic video! Vlorë looks like a perfect destination for beach vacation, and deserves more global recognition. The broadwalk looks unique and amazing, espcially with the mountains in the backdrop.

I’m thinking the Albanian Riviera! I can’t imagine what you would pay for an oceanfront AirBnb residence on the French Riviera. Place looked dead in the winter but I can picture it as a summer draw for swimmers. A pity the season precluded you from having that opportunity but when all is said and done, it looked like you had the time of your life in Vlore! Alina, you visited an amazing place!

I'm planning to visit Vlore in Summer 2022 for two weeks. I need some suggestions.
Is it better to stay in the Lungomare area (very nice restaurants and walking area but maybe not the greatest beach), in the Uji Ftohte area (kind of between Vlore city and start of the Riviera), or after the Tuneli area (very nice beaches but kind of far from Lungomare with its daily activities)?
Any recommendations? I will have a car, but I worry that if I stay too far from Lungomare, I won't be able to find parking there in the evenings if I decided to go for a walk or lunch/dinner.

Thank you for the great journey Alina, I really like that city. My favorite parts of Vlora start exactly where your apartment was located, but continue down the road going the other way (not towards downtown as you were showing in the video). Those are the best beaches, bars, places to visit. Crystal clear greenish water. Of course the sunny days bring up the beauty of the city, and it has many many sunny days throughout the year.

@@sixersfan3098 I have seen many nice looking hotels located at the lungonare area. I cannot point you to towards one specifically, as I have not stayed in hotles there. The area I was referring above, is now under "construction" as they are enlarging the road and extending the lungomare, therefore I would avoid it for the time.

@@AlinaMcleod Vlora is having a massive reconstruction. The work has just started, big projects in place. That deserted beach with nothing behind it, will turn into a nice boardwalk just like the other part of Lungo Mare.
The Port will be reconstructed with nice green areas. Many old buildings will be demolished, especially closer to the historic center of Vlora.
That stupid high building in the Centre it will be demolished and the whole area will be renovated and turn into identity.
If you'll return to Vlora in 2-3 years time, you'll find a complete different city.
Vlora used to be called the Rebel City of Albania, a lawless place, the centre of human trafficking in Europe in the 90-s.
Eastern Europeans and Asians have crossed from this town to Italy during the 90-s, the craziest times in Albania.
So, Vlora was quite behind in terms of modernisation, but this helped in a way in avoiding building too much illegal buildings as Tirana and Durresi suffered.
Since then, things have changed. The city is not notorious anymore. Vlora has become lately the place that is changing drastically, more than any other city and it is turning into a touristic destination. Gjirokastra, Berat and Kruja always had a tradition in tourism, Vlora has yet to become one.
For the moment, it is the most promising city in Albania with a colourful future.
Even the biggest aeroport in Albania is planned to be built in Vlora.
P.s Vlora revives itself in summer, it is so crowded you won't believe it.
Many Albanians from Albania and Kosova have bought apartments and half of them in winter are empty. Come in summer and you'll find a very buzzing city.
Especially you were after the New Year in town when usually the whole Albania is quiet and too slow in starting the New Year 's life.( apart from the depressing weather you had).

It's Vlor or Vlora. When ë (pronounced like uh) is at the
end of words in Albanian it is almost always silent. Some Albanians pronounce it when they are reading something out loud though. Also words ending in ë are usually feminine and in the indefinite form but you change ë to a for the definite form, hence Vlorë and Vlora. They have the same thing in Romanian with words that end in ă changing to a in the definite.

Alina you have a magic touch to turn every place you visit into an attractive one for us... I'd recommend Sazan-Karaburun peninsula boat trip during summertime if you decide to come back and visit Vlora again...

So sad the weather wasn’t on your side 😔.. thank you for your tireless work Alina.. really enjoy watching your travel videos.. can’t wait for these damn restrictions to end so we can start flying again.. hope you’re getting some well deserved time off to recharge the batteries and spend time with your family.. btw.. if you want to sound like real Albanian, always omit the last letter of the city.. eg. Vlor (with a very soft R) 🙂

A late video from Алина. I’m guessing you slept in today. You must be having fun. Stay safe. What is the best thing about living in Switzerland? Well, the flag is a big plus.

I’d say its the Interlaken. Then again, like Alina, I’m Canadian and the years in America haven’t much affected my outlook! The weather couldn’t be helped but she made the best of it and painted quite the portrait of the city, which I must add is undervalued. Sad to say the reason for it is in Westerners’ minds, there is still a kind of psychological Iron Curtain about Eastern Europe. Alina is making people hopefully rethink their assumptions. If your country wasn’t so expensive, I’d happily visit it, the tourist trap characterization about it notwithstanding.
