  • Join us for Day 2 of Slate's gentling journey! This incredible rescue stallion from Heart of Phoenix Equine Rescue has a history of fear and aggression, but we're committed to building trust and confidence through patience, understanding, and positive reinforcement.
In this video, you'll witness Slate's transformation as he learns to accept touch, respond to pressure, and find comfort in connection. We'll demonstrate desensitization techniques using a PVC pipe and a rope, navigating moments of tension with calmness and clarity.
This is not about dominating or forcing Slate to submit; it's about earning his trust and showing him that he's safe. We'll break down each exercise, explaining the subtle cues we're looking for and how we respond to his reactions.
Whether you're working with a rescue horse or simply looking to improve your relationship with your own equine partner, you'll find valuable insights and inspiration in Slate's story.
Join us on this heartwarming journey and witness the power of positive horsemanship!

It takes special people to work with horses that are this dangerous. I'm glad he is with someone who cares enough to help him. I've never seen this technique, but it makes sense. I can't wait to see his progress.

Really great that you mention "reading the nuance" of his facial expression !!! Horse faces are so much more than ears❤

I like the relaxed blowing out snorting noise to encourage relaxation. Also not pushing the horse too much .

This is a great video. I can't help but comment. @ 51:26 ish a near perfect release where you both seemed the most confident and calm. Beautiful expression of understanding on his face!

I’m glad your showing this on a horse that is really showing behaviors, a lot of these channels use easy horses and that’s not always as helpful

Good to know. Nessie has done this with the head turning, so I wondered if it was a little aggressive.

I can see how if your on a time frame this would work but their are other ways where you let the horse gain trust and willingly accept things, in the first year my feral filly was touching the rope and halter with positive reinforcement.

Here is my thought - when he let you touch him - that was the lesson - it’s a wrap -why? Why?Why? You pushed the horse then to frustration - I just can’t sometimes- then get mad about it? That folks is the reason for uncooperative horses - you get on their nerves and they think oh damn here comes that jackass again - I don’t know why part of this post has a line through it but the things happening here is why horses end up getting blamed

You weren't listening. The whole point is to push the horse to the point of reacting so the horse learns he doesn't get rewarded (aka lack of pressure) for reacting but gets rewarded when he relaxes and DOESN'T react. Positive reinforcement for CHOOSING the correct response rather than rewarding the negative behavior. We are training our horses EVERY SINGLE MOMENT that we spend with them. We are either teaching them to behave in a safe, trusting manner or we are teaching them to respond in undesirable ways. Keep watching the transformation of this horse. You will be surprised at the end result over time!

@@MsPokey55 oh but I did hear everything said - this archaic approach is not helping this horse - clearly - as in could not be more clear - this strategy was unsuccessfully applied - forcing the horse to do as a person says gets only 2 responses a “broke” horse or a horse that is stuck in fight or flight - THIS HORSE IS STUCK IN FIGHT FLIGHT FREEZE - for the love of God - please give this horse to someone that can actually help him calm the blazes down - seriously

You are obviously commenting on a different video. There was no force at all used in the video I watched. Giving the horse the opportunity to choose the correct behavior o his own is not using force. I have used these same techniques to Train my own horse. He is confident, relaxed, and non-reactive to things that would send other horses into a panic.

@@MsPokey55 lol - that horse did not have even the first choice in that situation- gaslighting is what you are doing - you can live in your fantasy but I will not join you - if you think poking the horse is loving the horse and giving the horse a choice - you are welcome to lie to yourself and others but I choose to believe the truth that this horse is a captive of someone’s desire to prove he is something he is not - the horse is in an exceptionally small area - where is the choice in that - please I am very very interested in your telling me about that horses options in that space

@@MsPokey55 ms pokey I wonder how you would feel if you were pushed to reacting for everyone’s entertainment- you are truly broken as a person to first of all say that and then utterly lost to think it’s ok. You are the definition of everything wrong in society
