Shoeing A Horse With A Huge Hole In It’s Hoof.

- Hi I’m a farrier from the uk today i will be shoeing Stanley. Stanley was getting continuous abcesses in his hoof. After the vet came and looked at his hoof they discovered a keratoma.
The vet has given me instructions today to apply a straight bar shoe and a treatment in the area. He will be back in a few days to check on Stanley and to check any improvement.
If you want to see a part two let me know in the comment section.
Don’t forget to like and subscribe to my channel as I upload horse shoeing and trimming videos on a regular basis.
Hope you have a great day and I’ll see you on the next video 🤙 - Домашні улюбленці та дикі тварини
I will make sure to do a part two on Stanley. Make sure to subscribe and turn on notifications so the video will pop up for you 😊
Stanley is so well behaved, it appears that he fond of you as well. Thank you Peter, take care and I look forward to your next video. ❤️
A keratoma is a benign tumor of that grows inside the foot. It originates from the horn producing cells and causes abscesses. The hole in the hoof was from the vet going in to remove it. The precise cause of these tumors is unknown but trauma or chronic irritation are suspected. The removal of hoof horn during surgery can weaken the structural integrity of the hoof. So, horse shoes are used to stabilize it. The wound needs to be dressed until a layer of hoof horn starts to grow over it. Then the area can be filled with resin, etc. Antibiotics and pain medication are often prescribed during the healing processes. Since the tumors are benign, recurrence after removal is rare. They are typically diagnosed with an x-ray after multiple abscesses in the same location make a vet suspicious.
I’ve never really thought about the knowledge, skills and hard work it is to do what you do, but bloody hell, I’m in awe. Just amazing, I’m fascinated 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Im new here and I just wanna say that I really appreciate the fact that you're explaining stuff as you go. Some people are quiet and that may be nice for some people, but I'm a curious person and I love to learn new stuff. Especially about animals. Great job!
I used to watch videos like this and thought the horse would be in pain during the process. But the more I watched the more I realized it’s like the horse went to a nail salon and actually was therapeutic to the horse.
Et bien oui, c'est comme se couper les ongles !😅
Basically yeah it’s like getting a pedicure for the horse. What most people don’t realize is that a hoof is mostly one giant toenail.
Like the old saying"Things aren't always what they seem or Don't judge a 📙 by the name
@@Wolvenworks Yeah as if The ponies/unicorns/pegasi from MLP had rough days getting nasty wounds on their toenails.
Looks like Stanley has been a good patient n glad he's healing well , glad your back Peter I've missed your vids and hope the family is doing ok.
Thank you Marie 😊 glad to be back. We were all a bit under the weather but we are better now. Hope you are well?
Such a calm, well behaved horse. Thank you for sharing.
Awww, poor Stanley, so happy he's on the mend, he's beautiful, and it's so nice to have a video from you Peter, hope all is well with you and your family, I'd love to see a follow up video of Stanley, such an interesting video, thank you so much Peter, and take care 👍💙🐎
There you are! I missed your wonderful videos. This was very interesting and well worth the wait. I hope you and your family are all settling in with your little daughter. 🥰
We are fighting chipped hoof (vertical, but not spreading) and that gave me nightmares from the start. Now I have seen this! I would also think it must be very painfull, but Stanley was comfortable :)
And it really seems there is nothing what duct tape can´t fix!
Very hard work, i bet lots of farriers have bad back as they get older and wrist injuries. I loved watching our blacksmith shoeing horses when i was kid in the early 60’s.
Stanley seems to be enjoying his feed...crunch, crunck, and crunch some more 😊!
8:05 “Ah, that feels better mate. Thank you.”
Keratoma can be so difficult to detect. Good job to everyone involved in his hoof care.
Stanley has a wonderful temperament. I wish him a speedy recovery.
He is very friendly and likes you right well Peter.
Grt👌👍
Very interesting video heard of horses having keratomas but never actually seen it. Great job shoeing him. Good boy Stanley for being so well behaved. Nice to see you back Peter 😊think I can speak for all of your subscribers we have missed your videos hope you and the family are well 😊
Thank you 😊 happy to be back. Been a bit under the weather recently that is why I have not put out any videos. But I am back now.
What will liquid do for that hole
@@kimburke8153да, я тоже хотел узнать.
@@Peterthefarrier is he hurting when you do that ?
Hello Peter, very interesting video. I'd never heard of such a thing. I'm finding information on the Internet now. With hoof care; one needs to have somewhat if X-ray vision to keep our horses healthy and comfortable. Thank you Peter.
So glad you're back. Missed your videos. Hope you're feeling well. What beautiful horse. God bless you & your family. ❤❤❤
I’ve never seen anything like it 😮
I usually watch cow huff trimming videos and was surprised at how wide a horse white line could be 🤔
I always like to see follow up videos or see all their feet shod.
Thank you Peter. 👍👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
@Liz-M...I bet that large white line is a sign of laminitis 😞...I hope Stanley's owners aren't giving him a lot of starchy hay.
Good to see you back...
Bet the newest member is already getting big ☺️
Hey there Peter, I hope this finds you well? 🙏
That was an unusual looking foot, you don't see one with a hole in it every day.
Once again you did a fine looking job, and that old boy should be well on his way to a complete recovery after a couple more visits from you.
I hope you have a good one! 🐎 👍 🇺🇲
Your channel is very interesting. I could see you teaching young Farriers. Well done!😊 Cheers from Seattle, USA
Oh what excellent shoeing and care of the keratoma hole. Horse was chomping happily through- out- Wonderful job X

I looked up Keratoma on the internet. There is a bit more info on there, for those who would like to know more. Stanley was lovely. As usual, you did a great job Peter. Very interesting video. We are always learning. 😊
Well done. That job should make any vet happy. Thank you for sharing.🐴
Peter Sie haben einen großartigen Job gemacht. Sehr informativ und lehrreich. Und Stanley war total relaxed. 🐴👍Super😊

I don"t know why but I really like watching these guys doing farrier work, very interesting great video.
I enjoyed this. Lovely work and good to know some new informations
Thank you 😊
Very interesting work.
My Grandpa was a Farrier in Sheffield in the early 1900s.
I have noticed that you have ✋️ 👐 of a pianist. Rather than a Farrier
It's lovely to have found you
What a big difference! This was very satisfying.
You were missed-glad you're back and doing well!
AMAZING ! I never knew how this was done

He is a handsome boy! I'm glad he has a good farrier like you to sort him out.
We need a part 2 🎉
Very nice indeed .I especially relate to farriers work as the possessor of constantly managing painful feet. 😊
It's been a while since your last video, Peter. I pray everything has been alright with you and the family. Your friend, the Retired Paramedic and Horse Trainer in Ontario, Canada, Jenn 💖 🇨🇦
We are all good thank you. Me and my partner have had a bit of a chest infection but we are all better now. That is why I have been gone for so long. Hope you are keeping well? 😊
@Peterthefarrier We are all well here, Peter. I was getting worried. We hadn't seen you for quite a bit of time. I'm glad everyone is back to feeling in the nick!! Your friend, Jenn 💖
What a lovely surprise to see your video. Stanley is a beauty. Great work as always.
Stanley is such a good boy, great job - After 45 years I can still remember the hot-shoe-hoof aroma! 👍
Very patient horse. 🙂
It came out so pretty! Thanks for sharing.
Congratulations Peter and welcome back! I hope your wife and daughter are both doing well. You did a beautiful job on Stanley but can you tell me what a keratoma is exactly? I never have heard of it or seen one before this video. Why do horses get them? Thanks!! 😊❤
"One more for good luck." 🤞 So funny to hear someone else say something I say a lot myself😀 beautiful work Peter. I actually watched this backwards Pt 2, then Pt 1, but hey, no worries 😊
I always learn something new . Keep "cracking on with those video's" lol ❤❤❤❤❤
wow he is so well behaved - looking forward to the follow up video.

Awesome job. Thanks for sharing your video. GBU
Very interesting video. Thanks for this.
Would putting a burning hot shoe on Stanleys' foot have hurt him? He's a lovely horse. Well done Stanley ❤
No, they don’t feel the heat.
Very good job 👍
As always a nice job on a beautiful horse! I have missed you and I hope all is well with you and yours🙂
God bless Stanley and you Sir
Splendid Work Maestro
Gute Arbeit Peter, ich verfolge dein Kanal aus Deutschland 🇩🇪 und freue mich jedesmal wenn was neues kommt liebe Grüße aus Frankfurt 🙋♀️👍
Hello ... Thanks for sharing, is there a smell when you first place the hot shoe / metal on?
Nice job 👏
You do really nice work. I am from the US but live in Peru, SA As you might imagine it is quite difficult
to find a reliable Farrier especially where I am at in the remote area. I have learned enough over the last 2 years ( only) to trim and shoe my own horse much to the credit of people such as you. I do have acquires an adequate
set of tools to do the job but I have a question for you after watching your videos. What is the make of the Hoof knives you use? Thank you for posting. Now I need to get "Cracking" as you Brits say.
You are amazingly skilled
164,000 views...not too shabby !
Greetings from northern Ontario, Canada 🇨🇦
Good work you did❤it.
Thank you 😊
I read the title as “shooting a horse with a hole in its hoof” AND I EASD LIKE “NO ITS FIXABLE DONT SHOOT HIM NOOOOO”
Fantastic job well done ❤❤
Wow. Love that file!
Great job 👍💥
Great video, good to see you back. Can you explain what a keratoma is, I know you showed us it in the jar but it didn’t look like much! 😂
Thank you 😊. A keratoma is a type of benign tumour that grows inside the foot.
Thank you Peter, so glad it wasn’t serious ❤️
Please do part two!!😊
Not a lot of moisture in that hoof, you can tell they've been kept on very dry, well deained surfaces. I understand that this can lead to some issues sometimes as well.
Somebody’s a noisy chewer! 😂
Hard getting your nails done while trying to have a bite to eat LOL Well Done Peter!
Work of art.
Ok, questions. please explain what benefit the bar shoe will impart, and, why did you leave the toe out beyond the shoe, and rasp it down?
Esse casqueador, é o melhor que já vi. Parabéns. Brasil Santo André Sp.
Very interesting video. Thank you 😊
Yes. Part 2 please
OMG! What is this? What happened to this poor boy? He us such a good boy. So calm. You have done a fantastic job with his foot. He is such a cute boy. God bless you and your family. By the way, how is your daughter Eve? I wish you all the best. Regards from Cyprus🙂🐴🐎
