“It suits me to feel strong” is the lyric that hits me the most in this. Before I met my fiancé I was in a dark dark place and on the days I felt like me he would tell me that exact thing; that it suited me being strong. My heart melts hearing this because it reminds me of how much he changed my life. I’m honoured someone was finally able to put into words how it feels meeting someone who makes you feel like this.
I love the way she uses expression when singing. Is it just me, or does that make it seem lighter and more jovial? Because I can feel the lyrics when there's expression. Also, compared to how she used to dart her eyes around and take shorter and more anxious breaths, it's amazing and it's a physical, visible change. She just looks so much happier.
Dodie reminds me of when its a summer evening and the stars are coming out but its still warm and your holding your (imaginary) girlfriends hands and dancing together as the moon rises and fireflies are dancing and you're happy again.

Okay so freshman year of high school, like fresh off the middle school boat, I had a really big crush on this guy. He was about a month younger than me. I was shy and awkward and when we started talking, I kind of turned a blind eye to the way he was treating me. He put me down all the time and he corrected me when I wasn't wrong and made me feel like garbage, but he asked me out and I'd had a crush on him so we went out. He immediately started calling me his girlfriend and he was kind of possessive, which gave me large amounts of anxiety, so I "broke up" with him even though we weren't really together. Coming from a middle school as toxic and horrible as mine was, recieving the same treatment somewhere that was supposed to be better honestly broke me. I blamed myself for a year and a half and told myself that I was too sensitive and it kind of ruined me in terms of dating. There was this one guy and he was so sweet and amazing and funny, and he treated me like an actual person so I developed feelings for him. He apparently saw me the same way, so last year (junior year) he asked me out. I said yes, but that anxiety just kicked back up again and I called it off, which was one of me biggest mistakes. I did like him a lot, but my experience with dating got the better of me and I decided it wasn't time. I kept hanging out with the newer guy, and I discovered that I still had feelings for him not too long ago. I've kind of accepted the fact that freshman year I was treated like garbage and it wasn't my fault for being unhappy. This song came out, and when I listened to it, it spoke to me. I've come so far in these last few years, and I decided that I didn't want my bad experiences to rule me for the rest of my life. So, at the end of my senior year, I asked that guy out. I was just playing sick of losing soulmates on the ukulele. I just started learning how to teach myself the ukulele yesterday. You have a beautiful voice
Finally talking to my parents about some problems I’ve been going through, and I cannot find words to explain how much I relate to this. The promise of hope really is enough to feel free.
i just had a flashback to like 2016 dodie in the middle of watching this and i said "wow she's grown so much" out loud. beautiful video dodie, as usual. i've missed your videos so much x
YES! LITERALLY!! I'm watching her and I can't believe how someone can have that awesome of a voice and be that pretty and talented and so poetic and aaaaaah it's like the word cute was MADE FOR HER
Which episode is it numerically? I know it’s the invisible child and that’s episode 10 in the 90s series but the first episode in 90s moomin is not the first episode in moominvalley
I've always like your short hair styles, but your hair looks absolutely gorgeous in this video. How do you style it and make it look so cool?! I've been growing it out for over a year now and am finally well into shoulder-length territory, I'd love some quick and easy tips 😄
I know the questions for Dodie, but we have pretty similar types(thick-ish yet fine), I'd suggest a saltwater/argan oil spray(easily made if you can't find one, but the salt is for light hold/texture and the oil for hair health and shine)! I like lightly misting when wet and using a hairdryer while shaking it out and misting again when dry for a style similar to the beachy look she has in this video! I also braid my hair almost every day when it's long lmao, it's quick and simple. Feel free to message me if you want to talk about styles for other hair types, I'm fairly experienced in healthcare and styling for most of them!
@@minameier99 And how does the hair feel like afterwards? Aren't their sticky, or you can't brush it until you wash them again... And isn't it dangerous for your hair if used often?
@@ridiaraspberry4095 Not if you use fine sea salt, and heat it(not to boiling!)with water til dissolved, let it cool and add the argan oil, then put it in a spray bottle that mists, not sprays and make sure it's mixed well before every use! The oil is what helps keep your hair soft and malleable with the salt. Great to add something like diluted lavender oil if you've got some that you KNOW is natural and pure(definitely same for argan oil)!
@@ridiaraspberry4095 1pt salt to 3pts water, and a little less oil than salt! I eyeball it and it will vary depending on what your hair needs, my hair is fine and dry so I use a bit more of both than someone with coarser hair might need. And oily hair can be a sign of dry follicles, so using oil is important even if you aren't putting product in. If you have issues keeping your hair healthy I advise forgoing commercial conditioners for an overnight deep conditioning with pure coconut oil once a week. I use conditioner once every few months if that and my hair is healthier than it's ever been!
I'm gonna be honest, I like a happy song. I can't listen too much to sad stuff because of mental health and whatnot. And this is definitely happy and triumphant, and right up my ally. But even without that bias, this is amazing. This is by far my favorite that you've put out recently. I love it. Thank you.
wow this song really reminds me of the first time I opened up to my husband (then almost-boyfriend) about my messy past of abuse and mental illness and we were sixteen and had only just started hanging out and he just listened to all my madness and didn't run away. this song is perfect.
I broke down crying because of exam anxiety and stress earlier this evening but then I watched this video and it calmed me down and comforted me and made me cry happy tears instead :’) thank you dodie
Remember that it suits you to feel strong :) I did AS last year and flopped because it really hit me and I felt so overwhelmed and stressed. This year its helped me a lot to just do something as simple as believe in my strength and that I will definitely know something and to keep trying to actively think positively. Sounds a bit silly but it's all too easy to develop a mindset of I'm going to fail and become a bit of a self fulfilling prophecy. Not that you will fail at all though! Good luck with whatever exams you have!
Bet Roberts thank you so much! I’m doing my GCSEs at the minute and I’m really feeling the pressure, but I will definitely take your advice, thank you so much for your kindness ❤️
In our country Moomins were not aired till recent times. I am 37 now. Watched it together with my 2.5 year old. Nice animation. But this song catched my attention. Deeply touched by the words. Thanks!❤❤❤
The moomins are my favourite stories. I love the original books by Tove Jansson and am constantly inspired by them. I'm happy for you, this is a very cute, magical song!
This is so good. It made me cry. It's so warm and genuine and brings me back to the scary, vulnerable place where you give someone your heart, and you do it wanting to because you feel that fuzzy electricity deep inside your chest, like it's going to be a good thing.. and sometimes, if we're lucky, it is.
I really appreciate this song I'm still trying to heal from a horrible relationship that made feel worthless and ugly and suicidal. I hope soon I can say I'm ready now. Also I am loving the long hair! 😍🖤🖤
whoever this best friend was that helped you, i would like to formally thank them for giving us a happier and more mentally well dodie. it makes me happy to see you happy.
Why are dodie’s little harmonies and mouth pop things and hums so comforting, I know this sounds sad but she sounds like a friend who’s gonna give you a warm hug, like, constantly :))
"feet firm on the ground. We stood hand in hand. The world seemed to tell me that I had a plan. Together we sang. I'm ready now" I relate to this so well with my best friend. Every time I hear your voice I remember that love isn't impossible anymore I love you, Dodie Times have been a bit shaky lately. But my feet are now firm on the ground with my best friend's support It makes me feel good when I can stand hand and hand with him and walk through all the things I couldn't have faced alone. Sometimes, he'll say something that speaks volumes. But he'll simply tell me "you've got this" and I know the world has given me a plan. Sometimes, our communication is listening to music and not worrying. We sit in his car and crank up the volume and feel ourselves being human. Together we sang We've missed our chances on heaven a few times and he always holds my hand when we walk through hell together. He helped me find my words. He made me realize; I'm ready now He'll never see this, but I hope he knows I love him even though his friends are convinced we're dating Love, Exodus
I’m crying. Great song to listen to when feeling down. Or when happy! Edit: I made this post over the summer and this song is definitely one of the things that helped me get out of a year long depressive episode caused by the pandemic. When I commented I was in a park lying in the grass going through random songs and this one popped up and really made me feel free Thank you Dodie❤️❤️❤️ and to anyone reading. You matter. I definitely didn’t feel like I did but life is worth it ❤️❤️❤️
I've liked Dodie for a long time but I haven't listened to much of her music. I recently became a fan of The Moomins and seeing Dodie on the Moominvalley soundtrack was really warm, it's a beautiful song and Dodie certainly match very well with the Moomins. thank you very much for this masterpiece, it's been 4 years but i'm just getting to the world of moomins and dodie. ♡
I am literally crying because of how beautiful and deep this song is. Thank you, dodie, from the bottom of my heart. This was truly beautiful. You're such a blessing.
I thought the voice sounded strangely familiar when I heard it in the ep!! I was so happy to find it was dodie singing omg, I’m so glad to see you doing stuff for moominvalley is super cool! And the song is absolutely lovely, one of my favourites on the album Thank you 💗💗💗💗
One of the items on my bucket list is to meet Dodie and give her a big huge hug and say "thank you". This song so perfectly encapsulates the feeling of finally getting over trauma and moving on, feeling stronger for the experience, and I've never heard anything that even comes close to approximating that feeling so perfectly. The direct, yet tranquil cadence of the guitar throughout emanates the quiet, yet sure resolve one takes when moving past a traumatic experience and the solemn joy of development and growth that accompanies that particular milestone of transcendence. We've all felt it, Dodie just translated it into music. Dodie, you are such a wonderful soul and I'm so thankful to be able to share this time and space upon Earth with you.
Incredible. I don't understand how you can pour such strong emotion into writing a song, whilst also making it sound so soft and pretty and comforting and beautiful and sweet, making all of us who listen, feel loved and needed and wanted and cared for and cozy and brave and strong and AH DODIE you're so talented. I'm absolute in love with everything that this is. Amazing job as always xx
One of the goals on my bucket list is to see Dodie live one day, and thank her for all that she and her music have done for my mental health. Her concert in Toronto is all sold out, but I hope next time she does a tour, I'll have the resources to go see her!!
I’ve gotten the courage to listen to this song after a few years, my ex-girlfriend said it was the perfect way to describe how I made them feel and it hurt to much to keep listening to it after they broke up with me. I still cried as soon as it started and was surprised I still know all the words.
This song has made my heart feel the fullest it's ever felt. I can't thank you enough for this breath-taking, heartfelt song. Everything about has touched me and it's incredible, you're incredible! I was having a hard time and this helped put me back in the right headspace. Bless you!
Beautiful. seeing this as someone with childhood PTSD this feels like hope in a song. It’s not exactly about that but relating to it in that way paints it deeply
I grew up with the moomins and when I heard you will be on the soundtrack, I was so happy. Your music means so much to me, and it has really helped me to figure out myself and go through some stuff. Thank you Dodie, you are an amazing human💕
oh my goodness. Oh my God. Dodie you are the best thing ever. I know it’s hard for you to have all these people looking up to you, but there’s a reason we all do. At your human tour concert in Dublin, I could see that you were in pain.. and it hurt me, but it was my first ever concert and I’m glad it was with you 💕 It makes me feel so energized and happy to see you much better than you were before. Your smile makes me smile and makes so much people smile along with you. I love you dodie, and I am so glad that you are happier. I’m so glad that I’m here to see you come through as the amazing individual you are. I’m so glad that you’re here dodie, I’m so glad that you’re ready now. I love you so much..🤗💕
I have no idea what the spotify radio did to show me this song, but I threw at least five of Dodie's songs onto a playlist for relaxing and centering myself before a long day's work and it's done wonders for my mental health
This song makes me cry because I'm not ready yet. I'm in the midst of it all. Of uncovering all the things I've been bottling, and setting aside time to process my emotions. Of getting over people I'm hung up on and digging around in my heart until it aches because it always needs to feel worse before it gets better. I hope one day I can listen to this beautiful song again and cry in a different kind of way, because I truly am ready.
And I, like a fool, thought I couldn't love you more. But then you just went ahead and made music for my favourite tv show's remake??? Pls stop I will cry
ive was so happily surprised when i heard you sing while watching the show!! moomins was something very close to me as a child, and your voice matches up perfectly with the tone. well done!!💕
DODIE IS ABSOLUTELY AMAZING AND I HOPE SHE GET NOTICED MORE THAN SHE HAS SHE DESERVES EVERYBODY IN THE WORLD TO LISTEN TO HER ART SHE IS SO GOOD AND HAS COME SO FAR :)
this song popped up into my head after not hearing it for years. i started sobbing the second i heard the lyrics and they sunk in. when i first heard this song i was in an abusive relationship with someone who hurt me more than anything. five years later, i'm out of that horrible place and with someone who's helped me find my voice again. this song made me feel like his arms were wrapped around me. i'm so happy he sees me as his prince
This song is so simple and perfectly beautiful. I'm 32 years old, just feeling like I'm hitting my stride in life, building something new for myself after years of just feeling lost, and finally becoming the person I always knew I could be. All I needed was to learn to depend on myself, to trust myself to find that stable ground to stand on, from which I could move the world. This song, to me, has become the anthem of that transformation, and the words "oh it suits me to feel strong" just so perfectly summarizes that feeling of learning to love yourself, not in spite of, but because of, what you have endured in your life, and learning to appreciate the power within ourselves that is made manifest during challenge. Thank you, Dodie, for being such a pure, wonderful spirit and for providing such a profound exemplification of the beauty and joy of learning to love one's self.

You don't like the ending?
Then we'll find one that's yours"

I just bought a ukulele and I am trying to learn at least one Dodie song.
@@AmeliaDoesCamp Sick of Losing Soulmates is one of the easiest! I play guitar and ukulele so if you need any advice feel free to ask!
6/10 is not too hard either! I made a clone cover of that song on my channel kind of like Dodie did in this video :)
That's not what I ment is pretty easy as well, so is monster if I remember correctly! I use the website ukutabs!
I bought my ukulele because of dodie two years ago and I agree
Omg.
Ok, I want to comment about something specific.
Her hair is gorgeous and the length is so pretty.
I was thinking the same thing. I want to dye my hair her color and cut it to that length
This makes me want to hide under a blanket and cry...but in the best possible way :)
first jubilee.. now i see u here lol
Wait...what?
Micktrex they comment a lot on another channel’s videos (their account was even shouted out lol)
Your accent really makes this song!!! I also write music, and I gotta say, your voice is incredible!!!
Finally talking to my parents about some problems I’ve been going through, and I cannot find words to explain how much I relate to this. The promise of hope really is enough to feel free.
i just had a flashback to like 2016 dodie in the middle of watching this and i said "wow she's grown so much" out loud. beautiful video dodie, as usual. i've missed your videos so much x
in the middle;;;;;;;;))))))))
Ikr!!I have been following her since 2014 and I am so proud of her.
Anyone else in LOVE with Dodie?!?!
Luis Moreno yeah check
yEs
YES! LITERALLY!!
I'm watching her and I can't believe how someone can have that awesome of a voice and be that pretty and talented and so poetic and aaaaaah it's like the word cute was MADE FOR HER
um yes hi
YES
Ahhh the peaceful chords and gentle singing makes this a true masterpiece xx
I flipped when I heard this song in the show, I was like “OMG ITS DODIE” I love this song so much
Which episode is it numerically? I know it’s the invisible child and that’s episode 10 in the 90s series but the first episode in 90s moomin is not the first episode in moominvalley
@@cutecreeper33 I think it’s like, episode 12?
Same
ohhhh my god this is gonna make my gay finnish heart bURST
When she started singing I IMMEDIATELY felt myself feeling more calm and just aaaaahhhhhhh I love Dodie so much
the chords on the side are so beautiful omg i love them so much idk why
edit: this editing is my favorite!!
@@minameier99 thank you thank you, and if I can ask one more question, what is the approximate ratio of the ingredients?
I love it. Thank you.
This is so sweet, gentle, and conversational. A quietly strong song. Aw, someone commented it's ASMR Folk Pop...nice. 😊
wow this song really reminds me of the first time I opened up to my husband (then almost-boyfriend) about my messy past of abuse and mental illness and we were sixteen and had only just started hanging out and he just listened to all my madness and didn't run away. this song is perfect.
I broke down crying because of exam anxiety and stress earlier this evening but then I watched this video and it calmed me down and comforted me and made me cry happy tears instead :’) thank you dodie
I know how you feel, I did the exact same thing. Good luck on your exams, I’m sure you’ll do amazing ❤️
Em Jay thank you! That’s so sweet :) You’ll do amazingly too I’m sure best of luck for you!
Molly H thanks ❤️
Bet Roberts thank you so much! I’m doing my GCSEs at the minute and I’m really feeling the pressure, but I will definitely take your advice, thank you so much for your kindness ❤️
Dodie is such a precious gift from heaven 😍
In our country Moomins were not aired till recent times. I am 37 now. Watched it together with my 2.5 year old. Nice animation. But this song catched my attention. Deeply touched by the words. Thanks!❤❤❤
there is not one song on the moominvalley soundtrack that is anything less than excellent. literally how is that even possible
I love this song! I saw the other video before it got deleted and I loved it! It's just so soft and calm.
Did it show the actual moomin clip? 😍
Pineapple think so, it was a moomin peeking over a desk, or a piano. I'm not sure which. But yeah.
Can't you just like post a song that doesnt make me cry for once.
Jessika Ivy lol nope, that’s her brand. But I feel the same way 😂😭
Just paused my mental breakdown to watch this. We stan a lifesaving dodie queen xx
Stay strong
Its crazy how more than a third of people who watched this have also liked it. Dodie, we all love you, you made the internet a less scary place.
your music gets better every time but also stays the same i love it
Beautiful tune, love this
L-LilDeuce?!
whoever this best friend was that helped you, i would like to formally thank them for giving us a happier and more mentally well dodie. it makes me happy to see you happy.
my bitchass is getting chills just from the intro and crying after the first note send help
i love how there are multiple dodies just appearing
that would be so magical irl
we need more of u in this world ♡
This is such an amazing song and it has such a powerful message for those recovering from abusive and toxic relationships. Thank you so so much dodie.
This song made me tear up, especially after that touching story about Ninny. The lyrics are so personal and flew right into my heart.
Why are dodie’s little harmonies and mouth pop things and hums so comforting, I know this sounds sad but she sounds like a friend who’s gonna give you a warm hug, like, constantly :))
OMG so proud of you for writing this gorgeous song for MOOMINVALLEY!! AHHHHH
this is the earliest i've ever been to a dodie vid. saw the notification while listening to the same song on spotify
I just teared up a little bit watching her talk at the end because I'm so excited to see her perform in a few months
"feet firm on the ground.
We stood hand in hand.
The world seemed to tell me that I had a plan.
Together we sang. I'm ready now"
I relate to this so well with my best friend. Every time I hear your voice I remember that love isn't impossible anymore
I love you, Dodie
Times have been a bit shaky lately. But my feet are now firm on the ground with my best friend's support
It makes me feel good when I can stand hand and hand with him and walk through all the things I couldn't have faced alone.
Sometimes, he'll say something that speaks volumes. But he'll simply tell me "you've got this" and I know the world has given me a plan.
Sometimes, our communication is listening to music and not worrying. We sit in his car and crank up the volume and feel ourselves being human. Together we sang
We've missed our chances on heaven a few times and he always holds my hand when we walk through hell together.
He helped me find my words. He made me realize; I'm ready now
He'll never see this, but I hope he knows I love him even though his friends are convinced we're dating
Love,
Exodus
You matter. I definitely didn’t feel like I did but life is worth it ❤️❤️❤️
I was feeling very stressed and was about to watch your asmr videos when I got this notification, so happy :)
"a promise of hope is enough to feel free" hit me so hard wow you never fail to move me dodie
1:53 theres something so precious and sweet about the little nod she did.. oh my god
I swear this song just soaks me in a puddle of happiness :D
I thought the voice sounded strangely familiar when I heard it in the ep!! I was so happy to find it was dodie singing omg, I’m so glad to see you doing stuff for moominvalley is super cool! And the song is absolutely lovely, one of my favourites on the album
Thank you 💗💗💗💗
i cant put in words how incredibly beautiful this is. how incredibly beautiful you are. how much i needed this. i’m so grateful for you. thank you🖤
"A promise of hope is enough to feel free."
This feels like it's too big for a kids' show. It feels like it's bigger than everything that is, really.
I WAS WATCHING MOOMINVALLEY THEN HEARD A PRETTY SONG AND HERE I AM,, WITHOUT ANY REGRET
i love this song because i kove ninny and dodie and just its PERFECTION
Hantelope Art me too!a childhood favourite!
Bless you!
1:20 what’s better than 1 Dodie?...3 Dodies
I absolutely love this song aaahh
Beautiful. seeing this as someone with childhood PTSD this feels like hope in a song.
This is my GCSE motivation song... it's so calming
oh my goodness. Oh my
God.
I love you so much..🤗💕
You made me cry, and moomins saved me too. thankyouthankyouthankyou- i love this.
Ris sa literally me😔
And I, like a fool, thought I couldn't love you more.
But then you just went ahead and made music for my favourite tv show's remake???
Pls stop I will cry
ive was so happily surprised when i heard you sing while watching the show!! moomins was something very close to me as a child, and your voice matches up perfectly with the tone. well done!!💕
What is moomins on?
Sincerely hope you end up reading this, Dodie. Would mean a lot to me to know these words actually reached you
