Its about judging other people, you did it perfectly, you couldn't get past the hooker and so you lost the story. That is exactly his point, we judge others without knowing their stories. The preacher gave the bible to the hooker, the hooker changed her life and the child the hooker had became a preacher. The song is supposed to represent three wooden crosses to make you believe they excluded the hooker because what she left behind was a sin. But when you find out that she survived and passed on her new found sense of virtue to her son, she now leaves behind a legacy of love and salvation.

Just goes to show you what can happen when you assume. We all know what that does. A tragedy turned her life around and the presumed "good ones" were the ones that were taken during the wreck leaving her as the lone survivor.
The timbre of his rich baritone voice is unparalleled. My favorite Randy Travis songs are Reasons I Cheat; Promises; Take Another Swing At Me; This is Me; Look Heart, No Hands; Spirit of a Boy, Wisdom of a Man; That’s Where I Draw the Line; I Told You So; The Box; He Walked On Water; Three Wooden Crosses; Hard Rock Bottom of Your Heart; It’s Just a Matter of Time; On the Other Hand; and Forever and Ever Amen.
There are four passengers on a bus. A farmer, a teacher, a hooker and a preacher. The bus goes through a stop sign colliding with an 18-wheeler. The farmer, the teacher and the preacher are killed leaving three wooden crosses on the side of the highway. Before the preacher dies he witnesses to the hooker giving her a Bible. The hooker survives and she reads the Bible to her son who grows up to be a preacher. This is a song that tells us that no one is beyond the reach of God. As Christians we spread the Word not knowing how it may impact somebody’s life for Him. The simple gesture of handing a woman of ill repute a Bible led her to raising a son who would go on to leading others to Christ.
The Teacher left a love of education, the farmer left a love of land, the preacher left his faith to the hooker who read from the Bible to her child, the child became the preacher telling the story of the 3 wooden crosses.
I think yall have been reacting to country long enough that you should do "Forever Country" It's a colab of about 30 country artists singing a Mashup of 3 songs all together. It's fun to see how many you can recognize 😊
@@BourbonCountryReacts Most of them actually don't even get that there was something to figure out, honestly. It flies completely over their head that the person telling the story is not the preacher who we all know died in the accident. It seems to happen a lot more with certain groups than others as far as the reveal flying right over their heads. But a lot of them admit that they grew up listening to rap and hip hop which I think we can agree employs an entirely different storytelling structure than a Randy Travis song. 🤣 But I'm sure others have posted here that, yes, it was the hooker's son who was telling the story. You may have been unsure, but you knew there was something there even if you couldn't quite nail it. That is Miles ahead of most people when they listen to the song. Not a bad thing at all.
In the Forever Country video Randy is the one sitting at the desk that doesn't sing. He suffered a stroke and has been slowly relearning to walk. One of my favorite songs of his is The Box.
It's about not giving up on people who are on the wrong path, she changed her life in such a way that he son became a preacher and he is giving a sermon about the story
If you listen and not joke around.....because this is a serious song, by a country music Legend. The Teacher, Farmer and Preacher died. The Preacher left behind his bible and last words to the Hooker which caused her to change her life and raise her son up to be a Preacher in his own life. He changed her life with his death. Randy Travis is indeed a Country Music Legend, he doesn't sing anymore because he had a Massive Stroke in 2013 and has had numerous complications since. He can't communicate much. If you want to hear somone wiht the same Randy Travis vibe but a deeper incredible voice you should check out Josh Turner, "Long Black Train", "Firecracker", "Your Man", "Would You Go With Me", he's also covered Three Wooden Crosses.
@@BourbonCountryReacts It wasn't meant disrespectfully, your humor is one of the things I enjoy about you 2. But for some of us diehard country fans certain singers, like Randy Travis and certain songs like this one just deserve a modicum of Respect. I live in NC, originally from TX, and frequently travel to VA....all along the interstate and Hwy's you see off in the distance 3 large wooden crosses and it always makes me think of this song and a reminder that nobody is better than anyone else and there's not anyone that can change their life for the better. Keith I would think you'd be familiar with them the man who put all 1864 sets of crosses across 29 States was from W. VA, and there are 352 sets in that state alone.
James Taylor is great. He's in the folk/singer-songwriter genre, which does have some country crossover, especially with guys like John Denver, Johnny Cash, etc.
Awesome! I get the JT reference. Dustin got it, the hooker was the guy's mama that was singing the song. Randy Travis was awesome! You need to do more of his, maybe "Digging Up Bones", "The Storms of Life", "1982", or "On The Other Hand".
The story the preacher told was about 4 people go to Mexico, get in a accident, 3 die, preacher that died gave his Bible to the hooker. She took it, turned her life around. In 1978 James Taylor writes a hit for George Jones, 'Bartender's Blues.' The song hits the Country Top 10, featuring Taylor on back-up. In 1978, James Taylor and Carly Simon hit No. 33 on the Billboard Country Charts with 'Devoted To You.' So you could say he is country, along with other genres.
The son if the hooker was the preacher who held the bible up for his congregation to see. Randy is playing the guitar. The James Taylor connection I didn't see. I like that association. Randy's been around for a long time. He has an impressive catalogue. That's a great rabbit hole to go down. I recommend: I Told You So and Forever and Ever, Amen.
Ok, first, it tells us something about your mind when Tijuana is the only destination they could be taking a bus trip to. There are three other states that border Mexico with border crossings. Being from Arizona, my first thought was they were travelling to Nogales when this song came out. "That's the story our preacher told last Sunday, as he held that blood stained bible up, for all of us to see. Bless the farmer, and the teacher....and the preacher, who gave this bible to my mama, who read it to me." What I always got from that is that the hooker was given the blood stained bible from the preacher who died in the wreck. I think it's implied that the hooker is the mother of the preacher who told the story in church last Sunday. A near death experience like the hooker experienced will often be the catalyst for a person to change their evil ways. So the hooker turned her life around and raised a son, reading the blood stained bible to her son along the way. Her son grew up to become a preacher himself, holding onto the blood stained bible as a reminder to himself, and to help others. Country music back then was really good at telling stories. By the way, I'm a big fan of James Taylor too. He's more of a folk artist.
4 people on the bus one of them the hooked lived she took the Bible she was given and had a son she read that Bible to her son and her son grow up to be the pastor at the church and is telling the story of where the Bible came from
This is a wonderful story of redemption, the preacher left behind salvation to the hooker which she passed to her son who passed along to his congregation.
Keith, you where to worried about what the hooker wasn’t doing to get the song. 🤣 Dustin, you pretty much well got it. Love y’all but this one might deserve a a redo. ❤️
Totally agree. Can't go wrong with Alabama, 40 Hour Week For a Living is a great start. Just don't watch the video to hard it's good but old and it shows
Keith thank you for explaining the James Taylor part!! You kinda lost me there for a minute. I was trying to figure out how you got James Taylor out of Randy Travis
You guys missed the main point is NOT to judge. Hookers had a son who became the preacher who his mom read it to him preaching in the church about his mom changing her life around.
Let me put some words in your mouth, HeHaw, HeHaw. Finally hearing a beloved song of mine, Randy Travis, real big in 80's and 90's. Saw him in concert after release of his frist album. He suffered a stroke/heart condition a few years ago and cannot perform anymore, so sad. The song is sung by the preacher whose mother read the bible to him as he was growing up and was so impressed he made praising God his life's work. You need to redeem yourself ( about your early comments) and put "He walked on water"by our man, Randy Travis. Thanks!🙂

I just can’t bring myself to do it. In my opinion, they are not talented. Now that I’ve got that off my chest, I digress! Secondly, chlamydia… Really? 😂 James Taylor is awesome, but he’s not country. Carrie Underwood won American idol in 2005. Carrie sang this song with Randy Travis. In 2007 she released the song on her album. I’ve put the song lake below, as I think you really should listen to the song. Carrie Underwood & Randy Travis I Told You So ua-cam.com/video/hvTwFl6OIAk/v-deo.html I really hope you both like the song! Having said that, I like Randy Travis singing the song alone. I like Carrie’s version of the song as well. But I really love the duet version of the song! LadyGator1983
I always thought that the song was about how the driver's mistake cost 3 of the passenger's lives. therefore they did not leave a cross out for him because he took their lives because of his mistake, but they left something behind before they died.
I love music ...and I struggle right now because I LOVE MY FAMILY. And the little things that I never really know how much I appreciate my FUCKED UP CHILDHOOD. BUT I AM ABOUT TO HEAD TO THE HILLS BECAUSE I GET SAD BECAUSE SO MANY LITTLE THINGS MAKES ME MIss them even more.
Randy Travis does a song with Carrie Underwood. It is his song but they did it together live on American idol. It is mostly her beautiful voice singing it. Called "I told you so".
Three people died in the accident. Before he died, the preacher gave the Bible to the hooker. She had a son that became a preacher and told the story about how his mother was given the Bible, who read it to him. Now you know why there are only 3 wooden crosses on the right side of the road.
The preacher died as well as the teacher in the farmer. The hooker lived and she read that Bible to her son that she was pregnant with. And so she left behind a preacher to continue the gospel. But she survived the wreck. And I don't see why y'all don't get it.
Its about each leaving something behind, having a purpose, farmer left the love of growing things in his sons heart, teacher left wisdom in children and the preacher left God and faith, hooker didnt die because she was meant to have a son that would end up being a preacher, everyone has a purpose
Most first time listeners/reactors usually don't get it. This one goes to the whiskey guy. : ) (The first half of "Sweet Baby James" is a cowboy setting. Excuse enough for "country"? )
That version you played cut out most of the last verse. "That's the story that our preacher told last Sunday As he held that blood-stained Bible up for all of us to see He said, "Bless the farmer, and the teacher, and the preacher Who gave this Bible to my mama, who read it to me""
Randy Travis entire album Storms of Life is worth checking out. I would suggest listening to it start to finish when you can. I think you will really like the changes in tempo, instruments and Randy Travis’ vocals. Also echo the suggestion to look up Randy Travis and Carrie Underwood (or just Carrie Underwood singing “I told you so”).
I think you would have actually understood the meaning of the song without pausing it so much. First, the bus was headed to Mexico; not necessarily Tijuana. Second, This was in no way, shape or form reminiscent of James Taylor (lol). Third, to lay it out: The preacher on the bus gave his blood-stained Bible to the hooker, who redeemed her life, had a son, read that same Bible to him and became a preacher. Fourth, the line "It's not you take when you leave this world behind, it's what you leave behind when you go" is the entire purpose of the song. This is a story about redemption, salvation and love for that which is to come. The farmer left his farm to his son, who loved growing things. The teacher imparted wisdom to countless children. The preacher, who had undoubtedly already helped many of his parishioners, gave the hooker a second chance at life to redeem herself, which she seems to have done. It's really a wonderful song. If you listen to if in its entirety (perhaps sober), maybe you will see that. This was a terrible reaction. Will not watch your channel ever again.
Come on guys ..I've only got an 11th grade 😂 education..lol..the preacher was dieing..he gave the bible to the hooker..who read it to her son..who became the preacher..telling the story..to the singer and congregation that Sunday..but..that being said .you guys are at the top of my reaction list..semper fi...62 year old former marine from south carolina.. .
The preacher riding the bus was dying and he gave his Bible to the hooker. She read that Bible and changed her life and read it to the son who became a preacher at the end…. The theme of the song is influence we have on other people is the greatest thing you can leave behind…. We just need to make sure it is good influence….
The preacher gave his bible to the pregnant hooker as he was dying which she read to the son she gave birth to who became a preacher. So the 3 wooden crosses are for the farmer, teacher, and preacher who died. The Hooker survived. God's Devine plan is not always clear but as you can tell by the song his plan is always seen when he is ready for you to see it. Merry Christmas to you all and may God bless you and yours. Thanks for Brighting my day with your channel. Sincerely, A subscriber for life!💖
Yes Its a Redemption song ,where the Preacher is the Hooker's Son.... You Guys Crack me up.. I guess if James Taylor did Country back in the Late 60's and Early 70's you could Compare him and Randy Travis on this Song...
You guys have got to go down the rabbit hole that is Reba McIntyre. She’s never done a bad one, in my humble opinion! Start with Little Rock, or Fancy, she’s one of the best vocal storytellers ever!
Before abortion was legal in the US women who wanted/needed an abortion would have to travel to Mexico/Tijuana to procure one. The Hooker was pregnant and headed to Tijuana to end it. The Hooker didn't "have" anything (yet) to leave behind on earth, that is why she didn't die and go to heaven. Once the Hooker had the baby she read to him from the blood stained Bible every night, the Baby grew up to be the Preacher at the end of the song who was telling his congregation about the significance of the old blood stained Bible and that the way into heaven is the lives you touch so that they can also touch others lives and change for the better.

As Christians we spread the Word not knowing how it may impact somebody’s life for Him. The simple gesture of handing a woman of ill repute a Bible led her to raising a son who would go on to leading others to Christ.
You MUST react to Randy Travis's song...I Thought He Walked On Water and I Told You So!! Both are amazing!!
The Teacher left a love of education, the farmer left a love of land, the preacher left his faith to the hooker who read from the Bible to her child, the child became the preacher telling the story of the 3 wooden crosses.
I recommend listening to deeper than the holler

I think yall have been reacting to country long enough that you should do "Forever Country" It's a colab of about 30 country artists singing a Mashup of 3 songs all together. It's fun to see how many you can recognize 😊
Added a vote for that one.
Yes definitely do this one
You finally got it, but I have to say I've rarely waited so long for a lightbulb to come on.
At least we saw the wheels spinning during the reveal in this one. That's more than we get from almost all of the other 73 reactions to this song. :)
What do the others say? -Dustin
But I'm sure others have posted here that, yes, it was the hooker's son who was telling the story.
You may have been unsure, but you knew there was something there even if you couldn't quite nail it. That is Miles ahead of most people when they listen to the song. Not a bad thing at all.
Well.. I can promise you this. We do try.
Some songs really take more than one listen to get it. I think this is one of them. - Keith
In the Forever Country video Randy is the one sitting at the desk that doesn't sing. He suffered a stroke and has been slowly relearning to walk. One of my favorite songs of his is The Box.
Que the lone banjo in the background
... Some of his other well known songs "Forever and Ever Amen" and "I told you So"
Pilar dont give them the satisfaction of souring you toJmJ song you commented on.Hang in there
@@hanssolo8795 whaaa?
Thank you for the suggestions I'll add them to the list, but you should know we joke around a bit, by now.
And yes I did find you guys's commentary hilarious even though I know what the song is about thank you You brought a smile to my face
Mission Accomplished -Dustin
The best thing to do is listen to the song again off camera
if you weren't so quick to try and make jokes you might have caught the meaning. I enjoy the videos.
Another great one by Randy Travis is I told so.
Added a vote for that one -Dustin
Randy's lyrics are that the passengers were riding a midnight bus bound for MEXICO. Some how you heard "Tijuana"
Awesome! I get the JT reference. Dustin got it, the hooker was the guy's mama that was singing the song. Randy Travis was awesome! You need to do more of his, maybe "Digging Up Bones", "The Storms of Life", "1982", or "On The Other Hand".
This is the type of county that my mama played when I was young while my sister's father played AC/DC
Travis' "Forever & Ever Amen" is a must-do.
Yes
Two votes added.
The story the preacher told was about 4 people go to Mexico, get in a accident, 3 die, preacher that died gave his Bible to the hooker. She took it, turned her life around. Had a son, who became a preacher "who gave this Bible to my momma who read it to me"
Lord have mercy! I'm laughing at a religious song at 6:12 am.
Seems like as good a time as any, lol. - Keith
@@BourbonCountryReacts lol yep! Doctors appointment or I'd be asleep. They found what they think might be more cancer. Biopsy the areas today. I'm terrified and y'all just gave me the laugh I needed. THANK YOU! Sincerely. 🧡
You will definitely be in our thoughts. - Keith
The preacher on the bus, died from the crash. His last thoughts were of the hooker’s soul/salvation…she read it to her son later on…and Her son became the local preacher who is relating the story to his congregation.
Hi guys! Been watching for a bit. I think I’ve watched most if not all of your reactions. So far of what you have heard.. do y’all have any favorites ? Artist, song? Loved your reaction to In Color.
Had to come back and verify y'all did the reaction to Forever and Ever Amen!
Randy Travis had a MASSIVE stroke a few years ago and has never been the same.
Sad. :(
@@BourbonCountryReacts My Dad has had 3 Minor strokes and a 4th major. All were AFIB related. Silent AFIB. Dad now deals with Alzheimer's. Neither condition plays nice....
this song always makes me laugh and cry - and I love your interpretation of the 4th cross, that was hilarious! Anyway, you should listen to his Deeper than the Holler and Diggin up Bones
4:24 As soon as you paused it I started laughing 😂 "its gonna be a donkey show isnt it?" "if this turns out to be some donkey show ima be upset with you people" im a dumbass and have no idea what that means (probably don't want to know) so im over here picturing actual donkies prancing around at like a circus and im laughing even harder 😂 "i have a feeling by the end of this he's gonna feel like a jack ass" 😂 in all seriousness though this song is amazing and Randy Travis has a great voice!
And now, I'm ugly crying. This song does it to me every time.
Understandable. - Keith
In 1978 James Taylor writes a hit for George Jones, 'Bartender's Blues.' The song hits the Country Top 10, featuring Taylor on back-up. In 1978, James Taylor and Carly Simon hit No. 33 on the Billboard Country Charts with 'Devoted To You.'
So you could say he is country, along with other genres.
Added Bartneder's Blues to the list!
she gave the bible to her son who became a preacher ...
Great message in this song.
I was impressed with y'all till the last 2 songs.
I also am always surprised why people feel confused lol. But yes you guys are correct
Arlo Guthrie song is Alice's restaurant
4 people on the bus one of them the hooked lived she took the Bible she was given and had a son she read that Bible to her son and her son grow up to be the pastor at the church and is telling the story of where the Bible came from
This is a wonderful story of redemption, the preacher left behind salvation to the hooker which she passed to her son who passed along to his congregation.
Ya it kinda confused me at first but it's just really well put together and sounds good
Keith, you where to worried about what the hooker wasn’t doing to get the song. 🤣 Dustin, you pretty much well got it. Love y’all but this one might deserve a a redo. ❤️
Love from India ☺️
And YES! Edumacate Dustin on James Taylor!!!!!!!!
I've done a little bit of that educating. - Keith
James Taylor is also a legend.
The hooked was saved and survived. The hooked is the mother of the preacher who told the story( the son)
40 hr a week (to make a living) by Alabama... an amazing group with sooo many great songs, but I think this one to start would be a great one!!!

Totally agree. Can't go wrong with Alabama, 40 Hour Week For a Living is a great start. Just don't watch the video to hard it's good but old and it shows
Most people fail to ask what about the bus driver he was not mentioned in the song except in the beginning
The bus driver is chopped liver.
Keith thank you for explaining the James Taylor part!! You kinda lost me there for a minute. I was trying to figure out how you got James Taylor out of Randy Travis
Took me a minute, but I got there. - Keith
Here is James Taylor for you with Alison Krause "How's the World Treating You" 2003's Best Country Collaboration at the Grammy's
Thanks!🙂

Keith, The first thing I want to say is I love you! I will not listen to Billy Ray Cyrus or Miley Cyrus. I only like to Billy Ray Cyrus‘s songs but I’m not doing it. I just can’t bring myself to do it. In my opinion, they are not talented. Now that I’ve got that off my chest, I digress!
Secondly, chlamydia… Really? 😂
James Taylor is awesome, but he’s not country.
Carrie Underwood won American idol in 2005. Carrie sang this song with Randy Travis. In 2007 she released the song on her album. I’ve put the song lake below, as I think you really should listen to the song.

I always thought that the song was about how the driver's mistake cost 3 of the passenger's lives. therefore they did not leave a cross out for him because he took their lives because of his mistake, but they left something behind before they died.
Dustin is on the correct path, not quite at the end. Listen to it again and you will nail it!

The Preacher telling the story on Sunday is the Hooker's Son.
Its about each leaving something behind, having a purpose, farmer left the love of growing things in his sons heart, teacher left wisdom in children and the preacher left God and faith, hooker didnt die because she was meant to have a son that would end up being a preacher, everyone has a purpose
Love your country reactions...would love to see you react to Blain Larsen How Do You Get That Lonely...a sad but beautiful song
I've added that one to the list.
It kills me when I watch the reaction to this amazing song and people dont get it.
1987-1989ish he was huge
I was largely sequestered from pop culture at that time. - Keith
I thought he walked on water is another good Randy Travis song.
Added another vote for that tune.
Good song choice and good choice of Kentucky Bourbon
Most first time listeners/reactors usually don't get it. This one goes to the whiskey guy. : )
(The first half of "Sweet Baby James" is a cowboy setting. Excuse enough for "country"? )
Carolina in my MInd could be considered country right? Just saw James Taylor and Jackson Browne at the end of October. Still great!
That version you played cut out most of the last verse.
"That's the story that our preacher told last Sunday
As he held that blood-stained Bible up for all of us to see
He said, "Bless the farmer, and the teacher, and the preacher
Who gave this Bible to my mama, who read it to me""
Randy Travis entire album Storms of Life is worth checking out. I would suggest listening to it start to finish when you can. I think you will really like the changes in tempo, instruments and Randy Travis’ vocals. Also echo the suggestion to look up Randy Travis and Carrie Underwood (or just Carrie Underwood singing “I told you so”).
Added a vote for I told you so.
Superstar is an insult to Randy, he is a country music GOD.
K. Bye!
I was glad you guys did this song.....he has alot of good ones...y'all should explore them. The preacher did pass. He gave the bible to the hooker
Come on guys
..I've only got an 11th grade 😂 education..lol..the preacher was dieing..he gave the bible to the hooker..who read it to her son..who became the preacher..telling the story..to the singer and congregation that Sunday..but..that being said .you guys are at the top of my reaction list..semper fi...62 year old former marine from south carolina..
.
The preacher riding the bus was dying and he gave his Bible to the hooker. She read that Bible and changed her life and read it to the son who became a preacher at the end…. The theme of the song is influence we have on other people is the greatest thing you can leave behind…. We just need to make sure it is good influence….
I've always wondered what happened to the bus driver.
Sincerely,
A subscriber for life!💖
Our viewers (such as you) have explained what I missed from the lyrics. Great song. Great message. - Keith
Did you say Rural Inn? As in eastside Indy??😮
It is a very simple story. The preacher, teacher and farmer died in the wreck. The hooker lived and her son is telling the story.
