Hey Lance - thanks for the suggestions. I purchased a Zebra just over 3 weeks ago and have ridden over 360 miles on it - love it! I agree with most of your recommendations and have already modified my bike with new (higher rise) handle bars, (Ergon grips), Bikeroo seat, SR Suntour SP12 NCX suspension seat post, and the same Meachow side mirrors you use. I don't take the battery out of the frame as I just use an extension cord to plug the charger directly into the bike port. While the upgrades I chose certainly make the bike better, I can see that for some people they may not be needed and would drive up the price of the bike by another $200 or so. For example, if someone isn't riding the bike off road, they may not feel the suspension seat post is worth the spend (although it really adds to the ride comfort). The challenge for bike manufacturers in this space is to offer the best value for money that they can; which can sometimes lead to leaving something up to the consumer to upgrade later. I think Himiway has done a great job spec'ing their initial Cruiser and the Zebra models to provide high value features at a reasonable price.

Thank you for your thoughts on this. You make some pretty valid points. Enjoy your Zebra, they are pretty fantastic bikes, and I do agree Himiway has done a great job with their lineup of bikes and how they have spec'ed them. That Cobra Pro has been on my mind lately and would be a fun bike to try. Enjoy your ride and have a great week.

Many great options out there, and the Zebra is one of them. Have a wonderful week.

Lance, great video as always! Very informative! I do have a question though. I’m trying to decide between the Zebra and the Radrover for an e-bike to use for hunting. I would be using it to haul my gear back and forth from my stands which are a couple miles from my parking spot. Plus it would be used with a game cart to pull a deer out also. The terrain is not very steep, mostly rolling hills and the trails are old fire breaks. I’m going on 60 years old and walking it just is just a lot of work.
So….in your opinion would one work better than the other?

I would go with the Zebra. It works great and is designed more for off road use. It has a stronger battery then the Rad and a can handle up to 400 pounds of payload. It would be my first choice for what you want to do.

    Thanks for that Lance.
I wonder if a suspension seat post might make it a couple inches higher. It's already a big bike especially the step over and may then make it tricky to ride the bike for those less than around five foot five or less.
I'm a bit taller than that but my Tannus tire liners and a lower psi 11 - 18 depending on terrain give a really comfortable ride. Arguably the tire liners might be harder to steal than an expensive suspension seat if both wheels are locked up properly.
If hate to come back to my bike without a seat 😂
I'd like it if there was an option to use a password on the display to start the system. I ended up getting another display that has this function and again it's just another small layer of security.
Safe happy riding, make the most of the good weather.

I went out this morning with a tape measure. If I lower the suspension seat post all the way down, you still have a 4 inch gap to where the seat mounts to the seat post. So yes, you would have to take that into consideration if you ride with your seat post all the way down. You would have to add about 4 inches of height.

Lance, when the D5 Pro mid-drive comes out it'd be interesting to compare it with the hub drive.

Yes it would. I am looking into that, so we will have to wait and see.

Lance, i am confused....does the d5 have a torque sensor? I am buying soon Aventon Adventure 2 or Himiway Zebra D5. Any advice? Himiway on sale for $1500. Adventure 2 $1800, free battery! Brain dead

    • @theridewithlance
      @theridewithlance  4 місяці тому

No, the D5 Zebra does not have a torque sensor. It has a cadence sensor. However the new updated D5 Pro thats coming out will have a mid-drive torque sensor. Have no idea on cost or when it will be available.

Somewhere deep in the Himiway website it says that the new versions of the Zebra ( D5 hub motor and D5 Pro mid-drive motor ) have a torque sensor.
Actually, all mid-drive motors from all manufacturers have a torque sensor.
It's the older Zebra, mid 2023 and earlier, that has the cadence sensor.
I will be contacting Himiway about this very soon to get it confirmed as I want a Zebra and the hub motor version, D5, will be just fine as long as it's got a torque sensor.
      Cheers 🚲👍

You would have legs like a bodybuilder if you had pedaled all those miles you have put on e-bikes, just sayin’!! Also, I wonder what the mid drive motor would do up the hill with pedaling just for fun. Most people today have grown up with 10 speeds and know how to shift.

I had a TKR about a year ago and pedaling has helped my knee a lot!! I have a Specialized e-bike with IGH and it is awesome. No throttle but has multiple levels of assist. I feel pedaling has helped both flexion and extension of my knee. I have been following you since your knee videos.
