It’s so distressing to hear Americans try saying Italian words
The rogues learning tea: Calm and interesting and intellectual
The rogues learning coffee: chaotic and hyperactive and dangerous
Par for the course, really
he asked her if there was different varrieties and she replied by explaining that "expresso is a technique". she either doesnt know all that much apart from being a barrista or she thought they were dumb and held back the knowlege. either way i dodnt learn anything new compared to the tea one
@@myname-mz3lo how would you describe espresso more accurately then?
@@jasminer5286 He probably wanted to hear about which types of coffee plants there are, how they taste different, what roasting does etc. In the tea episodes they covered these things.
@@dekjet That makes sense, but all of that is coffee in general. Not just espresso.
Pull the lever, Brian! WRONG LEVERRRR!
That's exactly what I was thinking
Why do we even HAVE that lever?
@@louiselincoln
The lever that made the machine explode is to remove and attach/remove the grounds. There was pressurized hot water on the grounds when Brian pulled the lever, therefore it exploded.
@@MrAqr2598 I'm guessing you have yet to see The Emperor's New Groove. Thanks for the tip! ☺️
@@louiselincoln Oh, that? Oh, OK. I have seen that movie a couple of times, but I don’t remember much…
Never thought I'd see the day that Murphy liked something chocolaty. We are truly in the end times.
He did prefer the more chocolatey imperial stout to the oatmeal stout in their first episode with the Beerists.
Coffee & Coffee were made for each other; even the Aztecs figured that one out
Hyperactive Brian doing more than he should almost got him into hospital. Good thing those guys rarely work with hazardous stuff. Right? Riiight?
Thankfully they weren't at McDonalds or Starbucks. "Fast food" coffee places run there machines at far above boiling temp. Had that happened there he would have actually gotten very hurt.
@@dakurisu3431 wasn't there a law suit a while ago? McD's spilled a cup of boiling coffee onto an old lady, 3rd degree burns
@@1224chrisng Yup. And McDonalds launched a smear campaign to make themselves look good, and make her seem like an old hag just trying to abuse the system to get loads of money from spilling warm coffee on herself, when she, in fact, got burned down to meat, fat, and bones.
And the sad part is: The majority of people bought it, thinking she was just an old hag trying to abuse the system. Including me, until I heard the truth.
@@MrNight-dg1ug IIRC, she didn't want to sue and had to be convinced to do it.

When Jason liked the mocha, I was reminded of a friend of mine who hates coffee but mixing it with chocolate makes it much more palatable for him. They're very complimentary flavors, It's interesting to see that one can take the edge off the other going both ways.
I also feel like Jason has a large dislike of chocolate because of how much sugar is in it in America. From what it sounds like, the way they make their dark chocolate syrup is much more european
I literally find coffee revolting no matter how well-made it is, but put milk or cocoa into it and suddenly it is like a whole new world! Mostly milk though. Just sweetening coffee takes a lot before it gets good.
Making coffee more palatable with chocolate sounds much easier than making chocolate more palatable with coffee.
Choclate hits the same taste resepetors as coffee, lessening the coffee hit.
I don't even like the smell of Coffee, I avoid all coffee places.
I see coffee kinda like alcohol: if you need to put other things in it to make it palatable for you, you might as well just be drinking the things that you added to it instead. That said, there's obviously a diference between making something you dislike enjoyable and just changing the flavor profile of something you enjoy regardless, the key being to know where you personally stand on it before judging.
I feel like the Jason Doesn’t Like Chocolate joke should at some point be taken to the extreme.
Every episode he has to say it or it’s pointed out, it becomes another layer to the flashback.
I think it might be that Jason doesn't like AMERICAN chocolate, because every Brit I know (in person and on youtube) says our chocolate is terrible. And having tried their version and various others shipped over from the UK and Europe, they ain't wrong.
Honestly, I thought it was already starting to layer, and I was already laughing at how deep it was going to go.
Oh that would be Hilarious.
@@DeliveryMcGee i thought the nordic countries had the great chocolate? ik the dutch have it as their claim to fame
@@OlPalJoe Scandinavia has decent-to-good chocolate. Compared to Hershey's, every euro chocolate is great. Also, um, Nestle? They're a thing.
How did they reset the injury counter for THIS episode and not the ones where they modified nerf guns into high-pressure weapons?
The injury counter is for unintended injuries. Those that they know are coming or that they intend to cause probably aren't counted, like when being shot with paintball guns, etc.
I would love to see how James Hoffmann would deal with these two gents.
Americano is known as a "Long Black" here in Australia. It is a "Short Black" (espresso), that has been lengthened with water.
Here in America, if you order a long black is it smaller than an americano. The long back is about 6 oz and the americano is 8+ oz. (American barista)
That's quite intuitive.
Would actually love an episode of just Brian trying to figure out machines he doesn't yet understand.
So every episode we've already watched? 😄
The final seal has been broken, Jason Murphy has liked something with chocolate in it.
"are flipflops ok?" he asks as if he bothered to bring anything else to wear
The number 1 rule, stay away from Starbuck’s. They overheat their beans. The only way that their stuff tastes good if you add lots of flavoring, milk, etc. Find a local barista, which it looks like you have, and stick with them.
As a former Starbucks barista, I couldn’t agree more. Go support local coffee shops
As someone who has their own high end Rocket espresso machine, Starbucks is good at what it offers. Convenience. If I absolutely want a drink right now, Starbucks/Caribou will suffice but aren't what I'd call high quality. But yes, they burn their shots in general. Also most of their drinks are coffee flavored drinks, not a coffee drink with flavoring that is an accent to it.
Such good hosts by allowing the guest to show what they know
What does Jason mean “The corporate world?” Secret past of being a high powered bussinessman?
How else do you think he paid for that secret lair?
If memory serves, he worked in the IT world.
I don't remember exactly what, but he used to be in IT. It's mentioned in some of the old scam school stuff
Dell 👍👍
Love it how mindblowing it is when people find out that everything is basically an "espresso" ..
Huh? It's only espresso if they used an espresso machine.
@@mushieslushie But the four drinks they went over in here (espresso, Americano, Doppio, Mocha) all used shots of espresso as a base, which I think is what OP is referring to.
@@UxDarkGhostxU I understand. Some places don't serve drip and only have Americano. There are plenty of other ways to make coffee though.
@@UxDarkGhostxU here in Italy Moka coffee is a whole different thing
Seeing the MR twitter, I am so looking forward to coffee tasting because I have been doing for more than 5 years now and seeing the two diving into is going to be a joy to watch.
In fact, much of what I learned with tasting coffee got me to transition myself better to beer, wine, and whiskey
@@epremier20050 Wow, that's probably the first time I've ever heard coffee described as a gateway drug. 🤔
@@TheRealAlpha2 I mean caffeine is technically a drug xD
I think Brian learned about a different "Columbian plant" before the episode ;)
Absolutely! That's why he didn't feel any pain. lol
watching Jason come around and liking the moca makes me wonder if he has tried non american chocolate, because american chocolate has a verry sweet taste to it, but there is so much more chocolate out there that tastes nothing like american chocolate
Geez, someone get Brian a decaf. He looks ready to explode.

Been watching for years, i by chance start work at a coffee shop monday, brain you have made me fearful 10/10
Aside from adding texture, if you have a coffee bean that has undergone a processing method that produces a lot of fermentation flavours, milk can really enhance and bring those fermented notes out.
When the McDonald's I worked at got a McCafé and I suddenly had to learn how to work with this fancy new coffee machine, I had a hard enough time. Seeing Brian in this intro showed me how much worse it could have been
The video just started and my man spilled coffee stuff everywhere.
She roasts beans and Brian!
Been an EDG coffee drinker for almost a year now. Can't drink any other brand. Love it!
I'm curious to know if you're drinking the packaged coffee or if you're a patron of one of their locations.
@@TheRealAlpha2 I'm buying the packaged version. I prefer the dark roast. I've had it a couple times at the farmers market locations but definitely buy packaged for home use. I ran out the other day and the market was a couple days away so I went and bought some other brand's coffee at the grocery store and had a raging headache for 3 days afterwards. I'll never drink any other coffee now. I bring it with me when I travel too.

_Esperanza de Gloria_ ,
Hope of Glory…
Very nice name for a coffee farm.
Not surprised Jason liked mocha, mixing coffee and chocolate really produces a flavour that is unique and greater than the sum of its parts
10:46 when you are finally there but you suddenly burst
"I'm not gonna live that dawn..."
Not 1 minute in and Bryan's already hurt himself, this never gets old
In the mid-80s I visited my father's side of the family in Puerto Rico, staying with my grandparents over summer vacation. My grandfather grew his own coffee, had a bunch of plants in the forest behind his house. I helped him pick the beans and we put them through a machine that looked like a grain mill to strip the berries from the beans. Instead of roasting them he put them out on a plastic tarp in front of the house and it was one of my chores to take a wooden hoe and move the beans around for about 10 minutes before covering them again with a clear plastic tarp if it's supposed to rain that day. I did this every day for over a month. Then we roasted them and put them through the mill again to ground them. The smell was incredible. I had a 2 pound bag of coffee I helped make when iIflew back home a couple days later.
45 percent coffee, ground from the fridge whole bean costa rican.
45 percent whole milk
10 percent sweet creamer
5 drops of pure vanilla extract
Stir fast with fork.
Perfect.
In Australia, an Americano is known as a long black, except at some hipster cafes where they think they're two different things. With one you add water to espresso, with the other you add espresso to water, but nobody can agree on which is which
There's going to come a time where an entire video is just flashbacks contained in flashbacks.
First tea guy, now it's coffee gal. Yooo
My Raycons are in the mail 💓
Lovly as always, guys
I’m watching you learn about coffee while making gong fu tea inspired by the last series.
More of this, please :)
I watched this while sipping tea...and sheepishly glancing at my AeroPress.
gonna dress as a juggolo and a wizard hat and go to Jason's house and yell "I AM THE CHOCOLATE WIZARD!" and just leave chocolate on his doorstep.
"Alright, who gulped? Somebody gulped. Look we have got a long way to go. We're supposed to sip, not gulp."
i have been waiting for this
Dammit, Brian, you were doing so well!
Love that you addressed "expresso" as incorrect...I used to want to open a cafe called "there's no X in espresso"...and if you ordered wrong, to the back of the line...lol
7:22 - Brian - "Ever since the Great Cow Wars of '78."
Me: Would have been better if you said "Ever since The Cows Came Home."
brian goes full crackhead mode at a espresso machine inside of a cafe trailer
"you're not my real dad" *immediately scalds hands*
Oh no ive been waiting for this one. I’m balls deep in the coffee industry and I’ll be judging you
nice vid do you know any videos like this but for tea? or did you guys make one?
Aww yeah! That's a nice 2 right there
Less than a minute in and I feel like Brian has already had far too much caffeine. Brian's a good bean though, it's a shame he's gonna get roasted for this episode.
This episode? he's constantly doing something stupid.
out of curiosity, what is it you hate about chocolate, Jason? Like, is it a texture thing, or the aftertaste, or just being insanely sweet, or something else entirely?
@Jump OR Squeeze or it's just american chocolate.
the way Brian made the coffee machine blow up reminded me that i have to get back at reviewing coffee!
Also when the lady said they shipped coffee i was so ready to order some.... until she said they ship only in the US ... maaaaaan, i wanted to drink that! DAMN YOU CANADA AND YOUR BORDER LAWS AND WHAT NOT!!!
also... question to Brian and Jason... what would be the most Modern Rogue way to make coffee?
Instructions unclear, pepper hoo-ray went off in coffee pot prematurely.
Another thing to pay attention to, mocha (or mochaccino) is not the same thing as Moka (sometimes also spelled mocha), which is a variety of coffee named after a city in Yemen.
When Brian broke the espresso machine: How? How? I know it's the Modern Rogue but how?
And when it comes to coffee: I can drink it with most things except milk. I hate it like Jason hates chocolate. Even the smell of it is nauseating. I like milk by itself but keep it away from my coffee.
Not broke, just pulled the wrong lever. Imagine removing an oil filter with the engine running...
Now do a proper coffee in an ibrik; amazing stuff!
5 shots of espresso is wild in a single drink
I am one of those people that dislikes coffee overall. I actually suspect I have a mild allergy (my mother actually breaks out in hives if she even has something with coffee baked into it). even the smell of it usually sours my stomach, but this has me mildly curious about trying a mocha...
Espresso'd some Deathwith coffee. Ground it really fine and it was quite the success.
I love it when they do a callback inside of a callback!
They missed a really good comedic moment to darken it so it looks like they double added the black and white filter. But yeah I loved that part too.
I have to make you Cuban coffee, it is basically sugar with a little bit of expresso
been asking for this for years lol
This is the beginning of a character arc for Jason
totally a legit barista, Brian is. Sham is gonna be mad, again
5:40
So, espresso vs expresso is both correct. Since the name comes from the fast extraction, in France for example, it is called an expresso.
Now Brian is a legitimate bartender AND a legitimate barista
I live in the high desert of Nevada and will drink coffee when its 100 degrees outside.
3:35
very fine Thor reference
Love it
“Are flip flops ok?”, I don’t need context the answer is always a hard no.
I wonder if he jist doesnt like certain chocolate. I know i dont like sweet milky chocolate but love dark bitter chocolate which also pairs great with coffee. I think she did say it was peruvian dark or something.
You guys should visit a place that roasts coffee beans
Brian reminds me of Hammy from the movie "Over the Hedge!". 🐿️
The thing about drinking hot when it is hot outside, is where the humidity is low enough, your sweat evaporates, which cools you.
In Florida, drinking hot drink when it is 90*F+ and humidity is like 80%+ and your clothes are soaked in water already, it is not good.
Brian making fun of Jason for hating chocolate when this man hates fruit. 🤔
And mayo. Have you seen how he goes off about mayo?
0:43 new record for another one on the injury counter
Too much coffee before the shoot huh? 😂
An "Expresso" was a trim level of the Plymouth Breeze ;-)
I'm surprised they didn't make this video earlier
I think people believe that American soldiers didn't like espresso. I think it's more likely that being in a foreign land, they wanted something that reminded them of home. Thus the americano was a fitting substitute.
