  • Special thanks to Brad (@LamboMan37 on Instagram) for taking me out in his 1979 Bell 206B III JetRanger. The JetRanger is a 5-seat, 2-bladed light turbine helicopter. It's also the first helicopter I ever controlled in flight. What is the JetRanger like to own and live with? What is its biggest weakness? How do you make a helicopter built in 1979 feel brand new? We'll answer all those questions in our flight. Thanks for flying with me! #micahflies

    Awesome video! The JetRanger was the first turbine ship I flew. Then I got into the Ls, now I'm in the 407, and I have most of my time in it. The 407 is leaps and bounds ahead of the 2 bladed Bell products. If you ever get the opportunity to fly one, you'll never look back 😂

    Great stuff. I learned to fly in the Jet Ranger (TH-57) and really loved the simplicity of the bird. Thanks for posting!

    Funny, just yesterday I was looking through your videos for helicopter videos I may have missed (I hadn't).

    Funny Micah mentioned Airwolf my buddy owns a blue bell 222 along with a 79 Long ranger(79LR) which he is trying to sell that are both hangared in those blue hangars on the west end of the Corona airport and he also owns a yellow Lamborghini Garrado. I’ve flown both but the 222 is a beast and a blast to fly but the L4 is a workhorse and super reliable helicopter.

      It's wild how good his bird looks considering its age. It's the Paul Rudd of helicopters.

      We lived 1 block to the north of Kirkwood Park back in 1989. According to Google, the festival still exists. Do you know if they still bring helicopters in?

    I heard you say you grew up in St. Louis. You're probably to young to remember (prior to 1993) when they had helicopter rides on the riverfront. I used to go a couple of times a year. They started with Bell 47J, then used a couple of JetRangers and a LongRanger. About 12 years ago they brought back helicopter rides using Robinsons.

      I actually lived in St. Louis from 1988 - 1989. I'm glad they brought back the riverfront helicopter rides. Y'all have an impressive riverfront!

    Newer JetRangers don’t have the range extender, Bell got smart and moved the filler opening up on the fuselage to do the same thing

    That's a very smart looking 206! Would love to know how the hourly rate compares with his previous R44 in private operation. $100k for a set of blades and turbine overhaul costs mean big $$$s generally.

  • @devengudinas1649
    @devengudinas1649 24 дні тому +3

    Should really have compared it with an R66 with extended fuel tank just based on capacities alone and turbine.

    • @MicahMuzio
      @MicahMuzio  24 дні тому

      The R44 is the starting point for a lot of pilots, including the owner of this JetRanger. So I wanted to explore what it's like transitioning from the R44. But you're absolutely right, the JetRanger is more similar to the R66.

    • @scue37
      @scue37 24 дні тому

      While I don't have the requisite experience with the R66, our friend James does, and he's spent time flying the 206 in this video as well. Perhaps, @micahmuzio we do another video with James comparing the two?

      @@Kevin-438 point taken but, when I first saw his helicopter videos he did talk except I saw a lot more views from outside the helicopter and that’s why I watched the videos. Maybe he’s going in a different direction now.

      @@RevolutionaryThinking Good point. I just discovered today that he had his own channel and didn’t realize it went back so far. I didn’t realize he had been flying helicopters for so long. I’ll have to check his older videos. But I know how you have feel. Before I started flight school I liked to watch people just fly the planes and listen to the raw noises.
