It's the kind of thing that caring Aspies I know have said to me, as well.
Along with 'Why don't you create a thought attic?' , which I've tried explaining to Aspies why this would fall flat so quickly for me, so many times now that I've run out of energy. I'm thinking of printing out standard answers for some friends because the same 'advice', that my brain isn't geared for, keeps coming up.

Best thing about being friends with other adhders: you don't have to apologise

The most frustrating thing about “special place” is that when you finally *do* find the thing in the special place (sometimes years later after you’ve bought a new the thing), sometimes the special place actually makes some weird ADHD sort of sense, and you can even figure out (or even remember!) what you were thinking when you put it there, it’s just that your cunning plan lacked the one crucial detail of remembering the special place. 🤷🏽‍♂️

6:23, it's a good graphic, but it's missing: get interrupted by someone because you had to use a crutch word for half a nanosecond to reset your brain, get distracted by interruption, try to hold your thought, only half listening and engaging cuz you're trying to get back to your story, ultimately lose the thought, have the other person take you on a tangent, forget to get back to the topic, bring it back up 30 minutes later, make the person feel awkward because they've long since stopped caring, get mad that they think you're weird for finishing your story when they're the one who completely detailed it in the first place.

2:17 I have this problem that it really helps me to make a timetable for the tasks of the day, but if I miscalculated just one task and finish it later than I thought I would, I'll completely abandon the whole plan for that day. But I think I kinda understand why I do it... I had this uni course about eating/nutrition psychology and the professor mentioned the boundary model (I think). It works like this:
When it comes to eating, you have 2 boundaries: hungry and full and you want to avoid crossing either of those boundaries. Some people have third boundary in between, a cognitive diet boundary that they kinda set for themselves. Problem is, if they cross that cognitive boundary, it's "too late" and instead of stopping right after that boundary, they just abandon it completely because "it's already crossed, so it doesn't matter anymore" and they just eat until they're full.
For me my timetable basically sets a bunch of cognitive boundaries and if I cross one of them, I just abandon the whole thing. (Not sure if you really can use that model for other things than eating, but it works for me) Now that I understand that, I make sure to give myself a lot of buffers and breaks. Probably not the most effective thing compared to people who can "just do it", but it means that I get at least _some_ things done instead of procrastinating _everything_

I was one of those people saying that before I was diagnosed at age 25.
I always joked about having ADHD and I think some part of me knew it to be true. I was perhaps subconsciously calling out for help, sussing out if anyone would agree with me. No one ever did until I started to see a psychologist after a mental breakdown. I told my joke "it's just my ADHD haha" to her and she was the first one to ever say "you might actually have ADHD". Now at age 28 I have my diagnosis of ADHD and have such a better understanding of why I am the way I am.
I'm hoping that maybe next time you hear someone joke about having AHDH too, ask them why they think that. Who knows, maybe they have it too.
Edit: I feel like if someone had said something earlier then maybe I would have seen a psychiatrist earlier and would have avoided a horrible year when I started to struggle with anxiety and panic disorder because of my undiagnosed ADHD. I'm of course not placing any blame of anyone, I might not have listened and things could have gone the same way anyway.

Moi Miia, I like your idea of asking the person to consider why they might have ADHD! I don't think anyone ever told me that, though. I was always the one thinking (and knowing) I had ADHD until my diagnosis 2 years ago.

I will half-sarcastically say to people “you’re not allowed to apologize” then turn it into an inside joke whenever it happens like “excuse me dear person did I just hear the word soRRY-“
Immediately just vaporizes any awkwardness lol
I started doing that when I knew I was apologizing every sentence, and desperately needed to stop. Except I couldn’t. Then one day my friend teased, “okay you’re not allowed to apologize.”
I just stared at them for a second like-
So then I stole it from them, and so many good things that came out of it.
It made me stop using words like that uncontrollably which really helped with my confidence, it’s a great icebreaker when someone’s feeling insecure, it completely obliterates that awkward vibe when you or someone else unnecessarily apologizes, because now it’s a GOLDEN opportunity for an inside joke moment. It just isn’t an uncomfortable situation anymore.

I'm sorry it would be hard to not have parents that also have ADHD. A couple things I've noticed that my mom did before I was diagnosed (I didn't think I had it, so I didn't want to get diagnosed until I was an adult). 1. She kind of made the spare room my workspace, so I was away from my siblings and also where I slept and stuff. 2. I wasn't allowed to do fun things until I had finished my work (I still found ways to procrastinate, like talking to my mom...) 3. She tried to make me keep track of things and set reminders, but I was stubborn and didn't do it.
You are going to have to implement things that work for you yourself. It is possible, but depending on the severity of your ADHD it can be hard. It is possible though, try to make things fun for yourself, that's how I got 1 2nd grader to learn how to read. I got him to enjoy the practice of sounding out words by literally turning it into a game. If you struggle with learning math find internet games that teach the things you need to learn. The most important part of school is that you learn the skills, grades are secondary, just do the best you can. You are not alone, you can do this.
